Cool hipster bar located in the ghetto! Plenty of parking across the street in the Michohanablah parking lot.
The patio is nice and chill and great for conversation. My boyfriend liked the beer selection, but we would have appreciated if the menu gave more descriptions of the beer. However, our bartender was cool and didn't mind explaining the beer.
One of the city's best beer bars, bar none.
Looking for chic, hip, "see and be seen" atmosphere? Go elsewhere. This is a dark, dank, "pour me another to drown my sorrows" kind of bar, but in the best way possible. This is a let's drink quality (and perhaps quantity) kind of establishment. This is an "I'm tired of what everyone else has" kind of place. And it's better for being those things.
As far as Dallas beer bars go, Strangeways has an unconventional selection. Their draft list, which is always on a chalkboard above the tap wall, generally features a number of Mikkeller beers, a few wild/sour ales, and generally displays enough variety to cover any kind of beer jones.
Service has been very good to me and my groups on every visit. Strangeways has a healthy dose of the infamous "Toronado" vibe, whereby bartenders have no issue reminding you you don't know squat, but like you a lot when they learn that you actually do. Additionally, some of the servers/bartenders are really nice and pleasant to talk to. The owner, Eric, as always been really friendly with me.
I've not eaten here, so I can't contribute to the conversation about their food.
Like others, I tend to love the music selection. It's not J. Black's, with raging pop that promotes unbearable douchery. It's a low-key beer bar with shoegazing rock. Again, it's better for these qualities.
Bottom line: beer selection, service, and location are good. Go enjoy a great beer at Strangeways.
OK, so now I'm a regular at Strangeways. Â I'm going to do a pros and cons list to keep it simple.
Pros:
- Really good beer selection
- Never all that crowded
- Good "vibe" indoors and outdoors on the patio
- Good music
- Diverse crowd(in a good way)
Cons:
- I'm not knocking any of the staff personally but the service here is slow at best. Â Usually there just seems to be one person working the bar on weeknights and therefore things are slow and you have to go to the bar to get anything.
- Really good beer selection but written on a chalkboard not providing you with any idea of what you are ordering(unless you recognize the beer). Â They have some beers I've never heard of which is great, but the only way to know what they are is to track down a bartender for a description or a sample which can take a while.
I've been here often enough now to expect slow service and to have no clue what 90% of the beers are so I've come to terms with that because everything else about this place is so great.
Strangeways is a pretty nice laid back bar. Â The bartenders were friendly and they were able to answer my questions about the beers they offer. Â I'm not too sure what you expect out of a pub/bar but this is pretty much on point. Â The music selection isn't really my type of stuff but it's not bad. Â The bar is named after one of The Smiths albums...or something like that. Â We didn't order any food but the drinks were good. Â I'd come back for the atmosphere and the service I received.
Review Source:Good drink selection, but rude staff.
My friend and I went to this bar to drink beer. On my sixth beer, I got a beer that tasted funny -- frankly dirty. My friend and I, who both drink a lot of beer, agreed that it was an unusual taste for any beer and may be due to dirty lines or an old keg. I politely told the bartender that my drink tasted odd. Without tasting the tap for himself first, the bartender immediately became hostile and defensive, and said that they aren't a place that replaces beers just because you don't like the taste. He was rude and made no effort to reconcile the situation.
Regardless of whether the lines are dirty or the beer simply doesn't sit well with your taste buds, just about every bar (except this one) will replace your beer if you don't like it -- especially given that this is my sixth beer and I have already spent 30 bucks at your bar. It would have literally cost the bar 50 cents to replace a draft beer and rectify the situation.
Worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. It seems like other yelpers have had trouble with the staff here as well.
I rarely make it down Fitzhugh anymore, but I stumbled my way to Strangeways on Tuesday night this week. Â Though the place was pretty empty when I got there, I felt that I got enough of an experience to garner a Yelp review.
First off, though they do not have a large tap list comparable to say World of Beer, what they do have are often local and mostly fantastic. Â The bar is also dim enough to enjoy your beer quietly while listening to whatever track by The Knife or Crystal Castles plays around you.
The only real downside is the parking or lack thereof. Â However, that does seem to be a trend in most Fitzhugh establishments. Â However, the discerning hipster within you should love it here.
NOTE: This review is for drinks only.
Lucked into a spot at the bar & we were just there to drink. Â We regularly seek out craft beer across the metroplex, so I can say with some authority that the attitude towards beer at Strangeways seems to be "OK, these are the breweries I can feature, what kegs can I get by these brewers that virtually no one else has on tap in this area?" Â There were almost zero 'standard' beers- they were all familiar breweries, but very few familiar brews. Â They even had Armadillo- a brewery out of Denton that's taken awhile to get off the ground... we hadn't even heard they'd finally launched (not a fan of the stout we had by them... very unrefined, unremarkable & way too hoppy for a stout). Â The bartenders seemed to match the neighborhood- rough around the edges with friendliness only granted after you prove you're worthy of it, but their tough wary nature seemed to fit this place just fine. Â More like bars in Portland or Seattle than any other in Dallas (kegs stacked in the corner, unfinished walls, supremely laid back). Â We really enjoyed ourselves, in spite of the rather loud, non-craft-beer-crowd this place also draws due to its location.
Review Source:I thought for a long time how to best impartially write a review for this place, but since this is subjectively my--and my friends'--experience, then I'm going to go with the awful impression this place left for me. I thought about giving two stars, but realized that the impression I'm left with means I am never going back.
Long story short, my friend was rudely kicked out of the bar, and the rest of our group followed. / Update: see owner's comment below and notice the lack of class and professionalism with which he responds to all 1 or 2 star reviews.
Long story: We are a good group of beerloving folks, and do not go out to cause trouble or purposely act like douchebags, so this was the first time I had ever been part of being kicked out of a place. One of the bartenders possibly damned my friends as soon as they walked into his bar. Perhaps it was because they laughed too loud as they walked in, causing folks to briefly take notice, perhaps it was because one of them asked if she could sample a beer on tap that she was hoping to buy (not an unreasonable question to ask a place like this), or perhaps they looked young and disrespectful. In any case, they were immediately met with a sarcastic, icy and patronizing aura, which I observed. After I went back to the patio, apparently things escalated. After feeling the unwelcome negativity from the bartender, my group of friends did not order anything at the bar, and one of them said to the bartender "hey man you're being an asshole" and walked back to our table on the patio. Not 1 minute later, another staffer came to the patio and made a scene by kicking our friend out. Sure, what he said was fighting words, but he was only describing and standing up to behavior that he did not deserve or was provoking. They wanted some uncomplicated service and politely asked to sample a beer before buying it. I'm disappointed by the lack of professionalism here, and won't be going back.
Weirdest customer service experience ever...
I ordered a beer and the line tasted stale and clogged... I had one sip of the beer and had my girlfriend have another. Two sips down.
After agreeing that the beer tasted like a horses foot I asked the lovely waitress if we could exchange it. Â She obliged and asked what for...
I exchanged the skunked beer for something not rotten and on we went... However! When i got the bill I was charged for the crappy beer that was thrown away AND the new non-crappy replacement! WHAT?! If you try on a pair of shoes that don't fit and then try on another... you aren't charged for both... Why? Because that's idiotic.
As is this place. Â You're sure to be greeted with a "ugh" instead of a "Hi"... if "Paddy's Pub" from FX Â could have a real live bar... this would be it.

Ladies and gentleman, the comment below is indicative of the service you'll receive. Scroll through the reviews and you'll notice that for any negative review, the poster below (the owner) ignores the constructive criticism and instead posts an insult. Expect the same service and attention to detail (cleanliness of lines/glasses/etc) at the bar. A reasonable critique answered with an insult by the staff. Fantastic. The below response sums up the experience more than the summary. Try this place at your own risk.

Sad British pop might fuel a torrid 500-day affair with Zooey Deschanel, but you might not suspect it'd launch a craft beer haven in Dallas. Named for the Smiths' final album, Strangeways didn't seem to bear that out when I visited either. Heading up to the Big D to visit some friends, I thought I'd swing by a bar in good company with Houston's Petrol Station and Hay Merchant on Draft Mag's Top 100 Beer Bar list.
On the wall behind the liquor bottles, an array of large format vinyl art toys was displayed, keeping watch over the drinking masses. Having a rather large collection myself, I was immediately impressed. I didn't see a menu of bottles, but at the other end of the bar was the 40+ tap wall boasting craft beer from around the world. I had tried most of them, but I was intrigued by a flight of single hop IPA's from Mikkeller advertised on a chalkboard. Subtle hop nuances in varietals I hadn't seen before from the Danish brewery.
The overall vibe was tough to put my finger on. They had some local DJ's spinning for a special event, so the crowd was a good mix of people, further complicated by the vinyl toys coupled with excellent beer. But maybe that's the point. Strangeways is difficult to pin down.
Strangeways is one of my favorite bars in Dallas. Â They have an excellent and diverse beer selection and a unique, laid-back vibe that I just haven't experienced very many places in Dallas. Â Everything I have tried off the food menu has been great. Â The food is a little fancier (and pricier) than standard bar fare with items like goat cheese croquettes. Â
The patio has nice big picnic tables but the view is less than ideal....the parking lots of the vanidades salon and la michoacana meat market on Fitzhugh. Â The inside is spacious and usually not crowded but its also a little bizarrely decorated and can feel awkward. Â I usually sit outside because my bf and I like to bring our dog. Â
My one complaint is the list of beers (the list itself not its contents). Â All of the beers are randomly written on a big chalkboard that is hard to read and process. Â A lot of them are obscure and have non-descriptive names so its hard to make a decision if you don't see something you recognize. Â Additionally, some of the limited edition/rare beers can be pretty expensive and the prices aren't listed anywhere so you have to ask if you don't want to be surprised when you get your bill. Â All of that said, the bartenders are usually friendly and willing to talk to you about the selection and let you try a couple samples. Â Of course, this isn't the best if they are busy and/or you just want to make a quick choice.
Definitely recommend!
I went here on New Year's and had a blast! They even gave free party favors, which I loved. Anyway, this place is so nice and laid-back, they didn't even card us or anything when we walked in. There is a huge selection of alcohol, but truthfully I don't remember any of it now. Â There is a front area to dance if you're into it and the bartenders are really friendly. Â They played an eclectic mix of music, but it waw all danceable. Â All in all this is a great local bar and I know I'll be back!
Review Source:The beer selection at Strangeways is awesome, and the food was pretty good, especially the French fries. The service was really poor, though - it was beyond slow and I waited at the bar for 20 minutes (when a mere two other patrons were alongside me - it was not crowded at all) to get a refill on a drink. Not ideal.
I'd be willing to give Strangeways another shot because I liked the vibe but I do hope the service improves drastically.
Cool dive to grab a few beers and relax. People and staff were friendly and there is a great array of beers to choose. Â They also didn't mind giving small samples if you have trouble choosing! Did I mention the place was full of "Viking bicyclers" while we were there too? Apparently someone was celebrating their birthday in style.
Review Source:I gotta tell ya, I LOVE Strangeways! My hubby and I go just about every other week and we're always more than satisfied! The beer selection is incredible and always changing! If you're a beer connoisseur you will be in a certified beer playground! If you have a taste for something stronger, there's are at least 20 varieties of Vodka and a slew of whiskies and tequilas to make your taste buds happy. Â
Vince is the bartender to see, he works just about every Friday and Saturday and he know his craft beer! Let him know what flavor palette you like and he'll point you in the right direction. Â
The food is also amazing & far better than your typical bar fare. Â The elote is on point and the plantains chips are a great compliment to their sandwiches.
All in all, there's no reason not to like Strangeways!
"Let's go somewhere different." my date requested.
Being two cool guys, Strangeways inviting patio on an old urban street seemed a possible success. Â Views of an old washateria with a fun 70's sign and a carneceria were the polite neighbors in this mostly Hispanic neighborhood, which only pleasantly added to the vibe.
Our picnic table colleagues were all pretty in a downplayed way, with cute but not so expensive clothes and chill attitudes. Â
The chula waitress, the chopper parked out front and the large dia de las muertos altar inside were further delights. Â
Full bar and tap selection, but sadly only one wine offering, Pinot Grigio.
We didn't care tho.
How long you guys been open? Â I asked chulita.
"it was a year this August."
"is this place really named after a smiths album?"
"yes we all love the smiths."
Well I'll be a girlfriend in a coma! Â I had no idea.
Take me out, tonight. Â Cause I want to see people and I want to see lights.
I do not like crowds and my work schedule doesn't allow me to go out on weekends, so I came here last Tuesday. Â It was nice and quiet. Â There was a lady who seemed really intoxicated with a pet goat. Â There was good music. Â Very chill patio. Â Someone was even studying, I think.
The beers I tried were awesome. Â I was completely overwhelmed by the selection, but the bartender was extremely helpful. Â I gave her what I was looking for, she gave me a suggestion, and it was tasty as hell. Â The beers were about $6 a pop, which could get pricey for someone looking to get puzzled. Â Really excellent selection though - which is what they're known for, I guess - and it's constantly rotating. Â I think I like it better than some of the other bars I frequent in the area, just because there's like 10x less douchebags.
What's the point of so many beers on tap if you're gonna drink them in a nasty old building overlooking a nasty old street? This place has very little going for it other than the selection of beers. Outside, the patio fronts a view of La Michoacana and hot, oily pavement. There is no shade. Inside is a weird combination of bare brick with someone's toy collection on display. It feels like a dungeon with toys. Or maybe it's what a dog feels like when it has to be in a kennel all day.
Behind the bar is a big dude and a girl. Hard to get anything but glares from them. Smiles and friendly attitudes must cost extra.
I know this is a beer place, but could the mixed drinks be served with any less care? What's up with ice cubes so tiny they could pass for slush? They water down any mixed drink way too fast.
The food was only so-so. The hominy was cold and stale, and the elote obviously came from canned corn, not fresh, hot off the grill corn. I guess I'll have to walk across to Michoacana for that.
I can't tell if this place tries too hard or doesn't try hard enough. Either way, I'm gonna try to go somewhere else.
Strangeways is low key with a lot of personality and a welcomed addition to the gentrified scene of Fitzhugh Avenue. With an outrageous number of beers on tap, this bar is great place to kick your feet back and sink into the darkness or live it up as a night on the town.
The bar's aesthetics are nothing short of grungy, but dare I say...in a charming way? With exposed brick walls that can either be perceived as bleak and crumbling or just a simple, raw, and chic design. Regardless, it's a fun bar with genuine and laid back service, and great prices.
This joint is off the charts, beer wise. It was such a coincidence that the day I was browsing their Facebook page, I had run discovered that D Magazine had just rated them best beer bar. Well, that was definitely no joke. I've drinken the rivers and lakes of beer in Austin, where beer is king--and this watering hole is undoubtedly on par, if not better, than most in ATX in the selection category.
Unfortunately, the individuals opening on a Friday afternoon were 10 minutes late, leaving a couple patrons and an employee out in the 100 degree weather. I was a little perturbed, and the service inside didn't do much to appease the situation. It took us a few minutes to get some service at the bar, with 3+ bartenders and all.
Aside from all this, I thought that it was a fine establishment. They honestly are in possession of a dangerous beer selection, in the sense that they source upwards of 20 different breweries that I have not even heard of! On tap, no less! That alone is worthy of some high accolades. Additionally, this hipster/dark vibe is a little more unique than your typical "Dallas club/frat bar."
I gotta say that the pricing is on point here. There are some beer bars in the DFW complex that steal upwards of $8 a pint. Notice the word "steal." Well, they are pretty much dancing around $5 here, so fear no more the nights of $60 tabs and $15 parking... at Strangeways you will find the end all, be all bar of your dreams, hipsters-that-have-happened-to-find-yourself-in-ÂDallas.
Oh, and before you come here to get sloshed, make sure that you get some cheese fries from Snuffer's. You won't here having just ordered one beer... the varieties are far too great.
If you're a beer nerd, this is about as good as it gets in Dallas. The owner is super nice and tries to bring in beers that no one else can get in the metroplex. On top of that, he keeps the prices on these gems reasonable without any crazy markups.
Food is decent. Music is good. Atmosphere is chill. Great place to sit and drink quality craft beer.
I love this bar! I've never had a bad experience here. On slow days, sometimes the service can be a little slow, but it's nothing that's really a bad time. More time to sit on the awesome patio! I just love this area of town, so it's nice to just sit and chat and drink and people watch.
The bartenders have been super patient with me when I was unsure of what beer I wanted to drink, giving me samples and walking me through recommendations. Also, they have AMAZING food- the hominy is my favorite, but the cheese plate is really good, too! I'm going back tonight so I can try Andrea G's recommendation of potato chips with parmesan
You should definitely check out Strangeways if you're a beer fan. The Tokyo Dog has an insane amount of alcohol, so watch out :)
Hands down my favorite hole in the wall to drink with my friends.
This bar is in my neighborhood so I just walk over but parking never seems to be a problem for my friends (there is ample parking across the street at the meat market). I've never had a problem grabbing a table on the patio with girlfriends or holing up at the bar with my boyfriend.
Beer selection is AMAZING and of course, they have a full bar so if beer isnt your thing sit back and grab a $3 Vodka soda.
Food is pretty awesome as well.... my favorite? HANDMADE POTATO CHIPS. They come out warm sprinkled with Parmesan cheese, fresh basil and truffle oil. I'm drooling just thinking about it.
So go and support this great local bar. Dallas need more like it!!
My favorite new spot to drink, I'm a beer snob and this is a beer snob's dream. While they don't lack in quantity, the quality of the brew on tap and in bottles in one of the best in the metro. I never leave disappointed in the selection, always something new on tap to try out. I'm a fan of Flying Saucier and the Moth too, but Strangeways always has oddball stuff you'll never find at those places.
The music is right up my bandwagon as well, can't go wrong with Smiths, Depeche Mode, New Order, and the like. Go on weekend when the DJ is playing, probably here some great tunes you hadn't heard since college (if you're my age).
Easy to find, easy parking across the street, and a front porch to hang out on if the weather is right. I really need to try the food, we usually eat before we go so hadn't tried that yet.
Excellent beer selection and some pretty cool house infusion shots (apple pie being my favorite). I dig the patio here despite the fact that it doesn't look like much.
Why only 3 stars? Service. Â Its lacking and inconsistent. Â Especially if you're outside on the patio. Â Do I need to go in and order a drink? Or is a server going to come out and glare at me because I did? Â Menu is so-so, the items sound good, but they're average, take a while to get, and are expensive. Â Want a torta with your Corona Familiar? Run across the street and grab one from the taco shop. Cheaper and better.
I hope this place fixes the service issue and I can re-do this, because I do like Strangeways. Â I always get excited about their new tappings.
Strangeways, indeed.
Presumably named after the Smiths' final studio album ("Strangeways, Here We Come"), you will find a pretty good beer selection here for your average dive. Â In the larger scheme of things, the beer selection is just average. Â They do get plus points for having Maudite on tap (one of only two places in the metroplex I have found). Â Plus points for the mixed, eclectic crowd, old and young, and for some reason on the night I went, heavy on cyclists. Plus for the 80's soundtrack playing in the background (including those selfsame Smiths). Â Plus for an interesting patio out front. Â Minus for it looking out onto a somewhat spooky neighborhood. Â Minus for what was probably the worst parking area I have seen in awhile. Â Looked like the Nazis had lobbed some V-2's its way in WWII. Â Had to hold my wife through the lot to make sure she didn't fall.
On the whole, probably more a 3 1/2, so definately worth a visit.
I'm a little biased on this one, but I'll keep that to myself.
Why five stars:
Music selection - first class. Smiths, Joy Division, Cure to name a few....been a while since I've heard a sound track I could listen to and enjoy without contributing.
Scenery - the girls going here are pretty and the decor is first class if you're into street art.
Divey - Its dark, its in a transitional part of town and has a general honey-badger feel.
Beer - Holy Moly, the choices are amazing for bottle and draft selection. Â This place has a wide assortment.....that is well categorized.
Vibe - the clientele is as diverse as I have seen them. Â Young, old, rough, cut, hip, lame...all presente.
Food - Not the typical bar fare...south/central american influenced.
Parking - GREAT! You can park on their lot, your motorcycle in front or at Michocana directly across the street(which they rent for patrons).
Servers - Attentive; you can tell this is not their first gig.
Well done.
Beer lovers unite: great hole-in-the-wall bar in a formerly super sketchy "ladies niteclub" that was painted bright purple. I'm pretty sure people used to get shot here before the neighborhood began it's transformation a few years ago, which is one of the reasons I was so keen to try this place now. I packed my shank anyway. Just in case.
They have a fantastic selection of beers on tap and even more in a bottle. They also have a great selection of micro-brews, including some from local Texas breweries like the Pine Belt Pale and Buried Hatchet Stout from Southern Star, and the Live Oak Hefeweizen, from the Live Oak Brewing Company in Austin.
They also feature a number of microbreweries from all over the country. I was so excited to see beers like Breckenridge's Vanilla Porter, Oskar Blues' Olde Chub, and Rogue's Hazelnut on their chalkboard list, that I may or may not have made an "O" face after ordering.
Aside from beers, they have a full bar, and our bartender made us the house special shot which goes by the name of "Free Rent". With a name like that - how could anyone resist taking one?
The bartender, Rosie, is a Beer Nerd's fantasy: cute as hell and knows her beer. When I asked her questions about a micro-brew I have not tried, Rosie poured me a small sample so I could try a sip before purchasing an entire pint. Very considerate to my taste buds and my wallet: you gotta love a girl who is lookin' out for both.
The play-list was everything other Yelpers have mentioned. On the night we were there I heard Joy Division, The Dead Milkman, and The Smiths. Maybe this bar has really cleaned out the riffraff and therefore eliminated any stabbings, but at least I can still hear dark and death from the jukebox.
"BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
I ran over my neighbors
BITCHIN CAMARAO, BITCHIN CAMARO
Now it's in all the papers.
My folks bought me a BITCHIN CAMARO with no insurance to match;
So if you happen to run me down, please don't leave a scratch.
I ran over some old lady one night at the county fair;
And I didn't get arrested, because my dad's the mayor."
So I put this place in the "beer bar" category. Â So let's go thru the Dallas beer bars. Â Meddlesome Moth - cold, pretentious. Â Common Table - great but quite expensive. Â Gingerman - wildly inconsistent, good service, but just lacking something. Â Flying Saucer - corporate, and usually mediocre.
I wandered into Strangeways today, with low expectations. Â But Whoa! Â This is a great beer bar!!! Â 36 beers on tap and No Sam Adams, No Boddingtons, No Guinness, in other words, no crap on tap that your basic loser asshole would say "I drink good beer" when they are drinking high priced garbage. Â Southern Star, 512, Green Flash, Clown Shoes, Maui, and many more edgy beers that the typical zero would say "WTF is that?" but those who love beer would say "OMG!!!" Â Also, they have a creative food list, another 120 beers in bottles (including Bud and Coors - in case you have to drag a loser along with you to this place) and great service.
I truly felt when I was in here that I was in someplace like Portland, with great choices, enlightened servers, and reasonable prices for the best you can get in Dallas. Â I am a Beer Geek extraordinaire, and would recommend this place as equal to Meddlesome Moth, and superior to Common Table, Flying Saucer, and Gingerman.
I went back to Strangeways yesterday with my bf for an early dinner, and now  am certain that this will be my new haunt. I wanted to wait for a review update until after I got to sample the food, and it was absolutely marvelous.
I chose the Mozz and Chicken Sammy, which was toasted ciabatta bread, grilled Italian seasoned chicken, Mozzarella cheese, tomato, and fresh basil. Just to be adventurous, I ordered the elote as a side (corn, chipotle mayo, cotija cheese, cayenne pepper, and lime wedges). I typically do not have good experiences with grilled chicken sandwiches. I tend to stay away from them because every time I order one anyplace, the hunk of chicken is so thick that it renders the bread useless, and then I make a mess trying to eat it.
Strangeways has finally given me a chicken sandwich I can eat! The chicken is just the right size for the bread, which is warm, toasted well, and de-lish! I can't stress how much I enjoyed eating this sandwich. The basil tasted fresh, as did the tomatoes, and the chicken was perfectly seasoned. The corn was spicy, but super flavorful.
I had to bump this one up to 5 stars...what a hidden gem this place has turned out to be! Great (and unique) food menu, great selection of beer, and a chill atmosphere. Love it!
40 BEERS ON TAP.... YES! This place is a hidden gem in the ghetto! You will drive right by it like 2-8 times (according to the group I was with)! There is a sign, but most of us agreed that you can't see it well at dusk or at night! I sat outside for like 5 min until the mosquitos ate me alive and I was forced to run inside! Parking is tight!
I loved the decor and service wasn't bad at all. I had the homemade potato chips and the goat cheese things (damn what were they called) with the balsamic drizzle, really tasty with the onions. The potato chips were nice, but truffle oil is a total sham. I tasted someone's plantains and they weren't too bad.
I suggest the Gravel Road beer for those who like Ambers.
This place is ok. They have a decent beer selection and the prices are alright also. The bartender and waitress we had were nice also. However, there's just something missing.
After reading all the good reviews I was expecting a bit more. I understand the need for a different type of bar off N. Henderson but just because there is one, I wouldn't rate it so highly just yet. It was indeed very laid back and pretty chill, but there was little music to be heard. The patio was ok also but again, nothing stood out to me. Don't get me wrong, I think this place is alright, but just not as unique as I was expecting. I'll try again later...
I went on a Wednesday night with a group of friends. Â I happen to live on N. Henderson, and I am not a big fan of the bar scene there (there are some good places to eat, but I like my bar crowds to be less snotty and/or boring). Â This place is so much better, for my tastes. Â The nighborhood keeps it real too and hopefully deters the lame from migrating over from Henderson. Laid back, minimal, dark and cavernous. Â All types of folks represented. Â
The tap selection is crazy, so I indulged my inner beer snob with some pints I've never had before, and they were all delicious: Â chilled right, poured right, and no off tastes. Â They were also relatively inexpensive for that kind of quality, most around $5-$6 a pint. Â My food sampling was limited. Â I had the grilled turkey and cheese, which had 3 different cheeses (incl manchego yum!) and turkey pastrami. Â A friend had the tortas. Â While mine was certainly good, I will order the tortas next time because it was amazing. Â The menu IS limited, but the selection better than typical bar food. Â The outside patio is a good size and is out front (facing the street), which means you can spend the whole night out there if the weather's nice.
I will definitely come again.  I finally have a bar in my neighborhood that  I WANT to go to, yay!
