So so good- I would have given a 4.5 because I wish the menu was a little bigger and that the prices were a little lower, but I realize this is because it was so delicious I want more...so I rounded up. I forget the names of most of what we ordered, but i do remember the tuna truffle and the hot daisy. hot daisy was SO SO good. YUM to everything! We will be back soon.

Simply fantastic!  3rd time there and will continue to be a regular. Sushi is like candy!  Loooooove it.

Not impressed at all. This is the Sushi Wabi crew running a place that is almost 1/2 the size of the former restaurant. Atmosphere is casual and not too loud possibly given the size. It has alot more light than Sushi Wabi. The fish is good and presentation is good but the preparation gives more focus to the condiments than the fish, possibly because the size of the fish slices is below standard. What's the point of serving quality fish if you hide the taste of the fish itself ? Again.. that's my taste. If you are a sushi lover that does not like the taste of the fish (??)  yet you like to walk out with a $100+ bill with no drinks, this is your restaurant.

Meh. I've experienced much better.  Not that Dokku was bad and the manager or owner tried so hard - but the service was sketchy and the food just so-so.  I'm not comparing this to other sushi in Chicago per se - since I don't tend to go out for sushi when the biggest body of water nearby is a freshwater lake.

I suspect had the service been more finished - I wouldn't have been so critical of the food and probably not bothered reviewing.  Assume a three star review with solidly average service.

Not sure about the raving reviews. I wouldn't go out of my way for standard sushi and questionable service.  Why most of the reviews mention the owners and make circular references to Sushi Wabi? This makes me think that reviewers are either friends or the partners themselves. Good luck!

Exemplary customer service.  Unreal in fact.

My wife and I were here Friday night. Due to an important commitment, we only had 1 hour for dinner so we figured sushi was probably our best option. We made it known to the waiter that we were in a rush. It was still very early so the restaurant was half empty and they had many sushi chefs working.  We figured this wouldn't be a problem at all.

Time ticked by and we started getting nervous. After about 45 minutes we still hadn't received any of our food including appetizers. We told the waiter that we had no choice but to pay our bill for our drinks and leave. We were very disappointed (and hungry).  This had all the trappings of a terrible experience and a 1-star Yelp review.

Susan (The Manager? Owner?)  came by and explained the situation to us.  Apparently an extremely large catering order came through right before our order was placed. Not ideal but I understand that these situations do arise.... especially as a new restaurant is just finding their footing. Susan then did everything she could to make sure that we left happy. She set us up to come back to the restaurant and quickly provided us food for take-out.

This was the epitome of customer service:  taking a poor experience and turning it around so the customer leaves happy. Clearly this is a restaurant that cares about the experience....kudos to them.

The sushi that we were given for take-out was excellent and the restaurant itself is very nice (has that 'new-restaurant smell' even).

It seemed like an impossibility as we were rushing out of the place, but I can now say that we will definitely be back again. Highly recommend.

This is the BEST sushi place I've been to in awhile. It was so nice to hit up Sushi Dokku on Monday night for takeaway sushi during the disgusting slushy blizzard. I ordered my food in advance for my 2 friends and me. We got a Fire roll, Dragon roll, and Northern California roll. I also ordered the Tuna Truffle pieces. And red velvet and salted caramel mochi balls for dessert!

So let me just say that when I stepped into the restaurant to pick up the food, it was warm and inviting. The staff was super pleasant and let me wait at the bar while the preparation was finished. They even let me try a thimble of plum wine when I expressed interest. They really went above and beyond.

When I brought the rolls back to my friend's apartment, we dug right in. Everything about them was awesome. The sauces were perfect on the side of the rolls. My Fire roll came with sriracha and this amazing wasabi mayo sauce. I wish my stomach was bigger so that I could eat like 2 more rolls! But I polished off my meal with the tuna truffle nigiri. The truffle oil on the fish was such a unique flavor combo and the sea salt on top really brought out the amazing taste of the truffle oil and the fish. It was so unusual and yet I wondered why no one had ever thought of it before! I mean, it was the first time I'd seen it on a sushi menu personally. Maybe someone somewhere has made tuna truffle nigiri before. But I'm giving credit to Sushi Dokku.

The mochi balls were also fantastic. Next time, I will probably just order 10 salted caramel ones. That was the best. The consistency was perfect and the rich flavor of the caramel can't be beat. All in all, this is now my official sushi joint in the West Loop. Highly recommended!

Seriously impressed by this new randolph, old sushi wabi spot

Apps: Miso soup, seaweed salad, ginger salad, gomae and sashito peppers. All SO GOOD. The ginger dressing was delicious and the seaweed salad had a very interesting texture.

Sushi: Truffle tuna bite ---this BLEW everything out of the water. It is better than Union and Sunda's tuna truffle. So fresh and well balanced.

Rolls: Godzilla, fire, hot daisy. Our favorite was the Hot Daisy and the Godzilla. The hot daisy is SERIOUSLY spicy. The fire is good, but we were taken aback that the salmon was cooked which was a bit disappointing.

Service is a bit lacking, but I will absolutely be coming back here!

Some of the best and freshest sushi we have ever eaten. Great staff try's very hard. Hot daisy is off the charts. Tuna and truffle is one of the most amazing dishes I have tasted. Try the Northern California, omg.
Sirloin and onion is awesome and the filet is a real sleeper with and amazing wasabi butter. Yummy.

Skip the super-trendy (and super-crowded) Randolph St. spots and check out Sushi Dokku. Great food! Perhaps the best spicy tuna roll I have ever had (it was actually spicy!)

Great Sushi!  I missed this type of sushi since Sushi Wabi closed and now the same great sushi is back and right across the street.  They are new and need to refine the service and wait time.  The sushi bar is odd with half of the bar looking at the deep fryer.  I am sure they will get the service down becasue they already nailed the sushi!

I was a huge fan of Sushi Wabi, thus I had to give Sushi Dokku a chance and I am so glad that I did.  I went on a Tuesday night and the place was packed (I did call ahead for a same day reservation).  The sashimi was so fresh, I ate it like candy.  Of note, you must order the Godzilla role (best in the city) and the Tuna Truffle.  I will absolutely be back for more sushi in this very convenient West Loop location.

    Love.
My first ever yelp review and it had to be about Dokku.
I have been a vegetarian my entire life and only introduced sushi/fish when Wabi was around.  Now that Dokku is here I can eat my minimal amount of fish again and not be freaked out about it being fresh, or good quality from reputable sources, because I know the owners would insist on it.
The hot daisy is divine and I love that is in wrapped in soy paper.
The panko onion is the best vegetarian maki I have ever devoured.
The godzilla- because we know this is no imitation.
The nigiri bites... I am no expert on sushi, but isn't this concept new?
Dokku is small, simple and clean.  They are not trying to be some sensationalized, over conceptualized circus.
Mariano the Chef is adorable and super friendly behind the sushi bar and I love seeing familiar faces on staff.
As for the review complaining about the strange choices on the wine list.... If you are going to complain about unknown wines, then perhaps you should stay in your bubble... I thought eating out was about experiencing new things.
    Maybe I am wrong.
Jiro would dream of your sushi Dokku... Congrats on opening.

Great to see a new sushi spot in Randolph & Sushi Dokku definitely competes with its neighbors on quality. A for Ambiance, too! Try the tuna microgreens and the octopus small plate was amazing, albeit a little scary! The wait staff could have been a bit more helpful, but its pretty new, so I'll cut them some slack ;)

Best sushi in a town. Very fresh, good selection and prices are good too. We will come back.

Excellent sushi. So happy the Sushi Wabi owners reopened again nearby.  I haven't found sushi this fresh anywhere else in Chicago, and I have searched high and low. Don't expect pan-asian. Don't expect to be able to order pad thai. Just expect to be able to get extremely high end raw fish.  It's excellent, and worth the price.

Eh. The rolls were okay, I thought the Hot Daisy was a nice twist on a spicy tuna. The Panko Onion is pretty good, but beware - the raw red onion gives it a surprising kick.

The truffle tuna sashimi was... okay. I'm pretty wary of sushi this far from the ocean, and this little number did nothing to alleviate those concerns. I did not like the way it looked, but the server assured me that it was because the tuna is seared...? So I guess they sear their sashimi?

One more thing - the gyoza is horrible. I know sushi restaurants are not supposed to have gyoza, but if they're gonna have it on the menu, I'm gonna order it! The offering here is mushy and terrible. It's clearly frozen. This much the server was clear about.

It's too conveniently located for me to say I'll never return, but I will stick to the maki, and probably the cooked stuff from now on...

Best sushi in Chicago. Without a doubt. We sat at the sushi bar and enjoyed watching everything being prepared in front of us. When I say that everything was fresh; everything was FRESH. The chefs are sociable and very talented. We were impressed with how finely the chef sliced the avocado for the tuna truffle nigiri (HIGHLY recommended. So good!). Such precision. They don't take presentation lightly here.

We ordered the hamachi appetizer and loved the slices of jalapeno that came with it. We also ordered the Hot Daisy roll (recommended by another Yelper) and the Tuna Microgreens roll. The Hot Daisy is a must. It was spicy and the flavors were well balanced. We could have eaten three of those rolls. The Tuna Microgreens roll was good, but we preferred the Hot Daisy roll. The sauce was a little heavy on the Tuna Microgreens roll.

The prices are very reasonable and most certainly won't break the bank. The restaurant itself is beautiful, yet simple -- large windows, mostly wood finishes and dim lighting. Great for a casual night out, or for a date.

I can't wait to go back and try something else! Everything on the menu sounded delicious.

    Do:
-Order the seared salmon small plate.  It was a very nice presentation and well executed.

-Order the Makimono rolls.  Our table ordered 4 different types and they were all excellent.  All the seafood was fresh and the flavors were robust.

-Order the salty caramel mochi.  It was full of flavor and a nice surprise for a mochi.  Ask for an assortment of the mochis and they bring them out cut in halves with apple slices.  A nice refreshing dessert.

    Don't:
-Have high expectations for the wait staff.  Nice and courteous, but lacking any real insight on the menu.  Fortunately, everything on the menu was delicious.

Super excited to have a real sushi place back on the block, and hey look who it is running it! The food was fresh and delicious with expert presentation. The ambiance is a great balance of dark and light woods, clean lines topped of with a great music background.

I have been patiently waiting the arrival of Susan and Angela's new spot for months. I am happy to say its just as good if not better the Wabi. I've eaten there 2 nights in a row and I'm going back tomorrow, it has been worth the wait. The Hot Daisy is now on the menu full time and is NOT to be missed as well as The Tuna Micro Greens roll. Tomorrow 7p.m. can't come fast enough.
