Legendary taco palace. It is a clean and simple place with great tacos and RC Cola! Oscar and his staff are very friendly. He even stayed open late during the summer to accommodate my entire rugby team coming in for "Taco Night." Â It's hard to figure out which meat is the best. Maybe the pork...
Review Source:So I have been to many many many Mexican restaurants and I have found one that is finally consistent! You get your money's worth and they are not stingy with their ingredients. I have become one of their regulars and they always treat me right. I will continue to eat there for years to come.
Review Source:Let me just tell you I love AUTHENTIC mexican tacos. Out of all the mexican restaurants i've ever been to, TACOS DE LUNA is one of my 2 favorite spots to get the best experience from just one taco. The best part is that they give you your moneys worth and the owners there everyday to make sure everything is up to their standards.
I usually order the Steak w/onions and cilantro, Chicken w/everything, and pork w/onions and cilantro.
P.S. They have the best Guac and the best vegetarian taco i've ever had.
MUST TRY WHAT YOU'RE MISSING OUT ON!
Wow! Do I dare go there?
I think I found the best steak taco in the city. Living off primarily Italian and Mexican food, I like to think I know what is good and what is not. Â For a really great steak taco, I generally head to El Milagro on Blue Island. But living around the corner, and being lazy, I decided to just grab some tacos from here. Â The original taco joint that was here served a decent taco. Nothing to talk about.
But this steak taco is. Â For $1.85, you get large strips of skirt steak (the way carne asada should be served), full of flavor, served on two corn tortillas with fresh cilantro and onion (the way a real taco should be served). Â And the salsa verde served with the taco was delicious. Â Full of flavor and on point with the degree of spice. Â
A day later and I can still remember the first bite of that taco. And the second, third, all they way through the last bite of my third taco. Â Anyone can throw meat in a tortilla with onions and cilantro. Â The meat is what separates a good taco from an average taco. Â The owner is really got somethin goin here with flavor of his asada, and how he is serving it.
If a good steak taco is what you're looking for, trust me. I've had tacos from all over the city: north side, south side, la villita, pilsen, you name it. Â This, steak taco is probably the best STEAK I've had yet. (Okay, again, aside from El Milagro, but this is cheaper and served just the way a good mexican taco should be).
Had it for the first time today from a recommendation from a neighbor. Â Boy was it great! Â Very decently priced, portions are huge, and food are so fresh and good. Â They deliver to me really fast too. Â I used to go to Papi's taco but that place is horrible now. Â THis will be my new taco place in the area!
Review Source:Sooo sweet. I called and the owner said the delivery guy had just left his shift for the night but asked to call me back in a min - one minute later and the boss had the delivery guy come back! I felt so bad, but honored his efforts with a sweet tip.
We got a large guacamole - and I must say we ate a lil bit and that guac was FRESH for almost 3 days after! We put it on sammies the next few days and finished it off. FRESHEST guac I have ever experienced. I can't even make guac in the lab and make it stay fresh for 3 days. I mean sure McDonalds does it, but this stuff tasted REAL.
Pollo gordita - delish. It is only $2.65. Since it wasn't a meal they suggested getting 2 or some sides. I got a quesadilla. Gordita in hand, this thing was massive enough for my tummy! Shared it with my roomie - so enough for 2 tummies. Next time I'd pass on the quesadilla - it wasn't needed really and it wasn't the most impressive thing on the menu, especially for $4.
Caleb got the torta and it was hot. I stole a few bites, and I must say I was jealous of his choice (commonly am). It was also delish. Scarfed down to nothing within a few mins.
Great service. Fast delivery. Very nice over the phone. Good food.
Cheap and lots of food (I split a burrito with my roommate and we were both totally full), but just ok quality. Our pork was better than our other friends' chicken , which they said was really bland, but we were still not overly impressed. It is also not a place I would want to sit and eat. But fine for cheap Mexican food, and really convenient.
They also apparently are pretty hostile with TaKos down the street, judging by the reaction when someone asked if TaKos was a new location. We were assured that we were "in the right place," but I might check out the competition if I wanted to do it again.
I love tacos, and probably eat tacos at least once a week, so I know tacos. So after visiting this place a couple of times, I have to say they are just your average tacos.
They are very generous with their meat portions, which are served on a two tortillas a topped with onions and cilantro. Â But you'll notice that the meat is chewy. Â This is because they keep the meat in warming bins and just reheat them on order.
Good tacos are made to order, not made, then ordered. Â I think customers would appreciate better tasting food if they had to wait just a little bit longer.
Because of this 'reheating' of the meat, my al pastor (pork) tacos were extremely charred the on my first visit. Â On my second they they were not charred, but they tasted funny (freezer burned?). Â Part of the problem is that you don't see an al pastor spit, so this pork isn't as fresh as it should be. Â I knew this going in, both times, but I had to give them a fair try.
One plus is that their tortilla chips are freshly fried daily, and they have really good guacamole. Â The green salsa is pretty good too. Â They also have pretty tasted chorizo, despite it's eerie reddish color.
Taylor Street has regained the Mexican Food place. Love the variety and I even love the prices. They are not far fetched for what they give. Absolutely authentic and I am glad that this spot reopened because although I love my Italian foods, I think that once in a while, a little variety is in order.
Review Source:Tacos de Luna opened up in the same building with the same decor as Takoz, but from what I understand they are definitely not run by the same people. Because I reviewed Takoz once, I received a message from the owner saying they would be opening the REAL Takoz again at some other location down the block.
Whatever the drama with all of that, I care only minimally. In the end my loyalty to tacos the food supersedes my loyalty to Takoz the restaurant.
Tacos de Luna is a pretty good equivalent to Takoz on most fronts. I'm a vegetarian and their tacos and gorditas are chock full of delicious ingredients. The taste is a little different from the Takoz experience but I'm starting to think I loved them so much because they put crack in their gorditas. ...Maybe not.
But yes, Tacos de Luna is an excellent replacement and I'm so glad there is delicious Mexican down the street from me again. The staff is quite friendly too, which I always appreciate.
