I found myself in Stamford a couple of months ago and ended up at Tigins one night for dinner. You wouldn't think that a pub with so many nooks and crannies would work, but the atmosphere was incredibly lively, almost like you were at some good friends house for a party.
I had the blackened chicken for dinner. I enjoyed it and mostly appreciated that it was a bit of a variation from the standard pub food that you tend to see.
They also had a pretty good beer selection there, which I guess is one of the most important things to have at a good pub.
I thought this was a cozy place. Â We went on a really nice late afternoon, so most people sat outside, making the inside nice enough to have conversation in a normal voice. Â Their sandwich selection was sufficient for a bar selection and good enough. Â I'd go back there for a friends' gathering place again.
Review Source:Last night I went back to Tigin for the first time in several months. Â I was less than impressed. Â I can now definitively say that I no longer enjoy evenings at TIgin. Â I will continue to patronize this establishment during the day, but that's it.
If you're a beer chugging bro, the night scene at Tigin is perfect for you.
I really don't feel inclined to say much more about this.
My co-worker told me that Tigin is the bar where everybody knows your name. It's true, she'll walk in and the locals know her by name.
I was in CT for business and happened to be there on St. Patrick's Day. It was extremely busy and difficult to find a table. There's no one at the front to seat you. You're on your own. People were there enjoying their Guinness and typical pub food.
The bar was super packed so I didn't expect the best of service. I was pretty disappointed at how disorganized the waiters were. I tried to flag down a few of the waiters but they ignored me because they were too busy or just didn't care. At that point I was about to leave and go somewhere else. I finally scored a table at the bar after waiting a really long time. I ordered a Guinness and corned beef and cabbage. The food was quite good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The only saving grace was the bartender who made sure I was good. He was the only person that I managed to flag down and take my order. He realized my frustration with the service and gave me a shot of whisky on the house.
I'll give Tigin a benefit of a doubt and try them again another night when I'm in town. It appears their service broke down during busy holidays like St. Patrick's Day. Perhaps their waiters would be more attentive on other days.
Major St. Patty's Day food let down.
Normally, I have really liked Tigins. Â Laid back atmosphere, good beers on tap, and good food.
However, for St. Patty's Day, it was such a let down. Â First of all, very limited food menu. Â All served on flimsy paper plates. Â The burgers were premade frozen patties, cooked well down, even though we ordered medium rare. Â Not very edible. Â Very disappointing - was really hoping for a tasty St. Patty's Day lunch. Â Only upside, was the large sized Guinness (and Bud Light for me), though also served in a plastic cup.
My first at time Tigins. I was skeptical walking in; it looked like a tiny pub. After walking through the bar, I was surprisingly impressed by the atmosphere created by the music, people and the layout of the bar. My friends and I found a nice corner to put our jackets down with easy access to the bar. It was at this point that our experience went downhill fast. I will never come back to this place again.
I hear a crash and look to my left. My friend has been bumped into and dropped his glass of beer shattering on the floor. His girlfriend alerts the bartendress that an accident has occurred and the glass is all over the floor. As the gentlemen comes to sweep up the broken glass, I am giving my friend grief for dropping his glass like a little bitch. We share a laugh and carry on with our night. Moments later, he is getting pelted with ice cubes.
The bartendress is now throwing ice cubes at my friend from afar and complaining to other employees about the rudeness of my friend. Granted, I was a little drunk, all I remember is my friend apologizing for breaking the glass. The laughs we shared were purely at my friend's expense. Moments before, the employee sweeping the glass took our humor completely the wrong way. I guess he thought we were making fun of him for having to clean up our mess, which was completely the opposite of the case.
This sweeper then came back to the scene after the ice-throwing bartendress kept yelling at us. As he yells at my friend's girlfriend for laughing at the scene, my friend steps in and requests "to talk to me, do not involve my girlfriend in a matter that is between me and you". In response, the sweeper says "do not raise your voice at me!' Meanwhile, I am drunk, watching all of this go down and pretty confused as to why everyone is being so hostile. I'm thinking, it's pretty loud in here, music is bumping, he would have to talk pretty loud just to have himself heard.
In the next moments, the guy sweeping called for the bouncer to help him out of a jam. Anticipating being bounced from the bar, my friend puts his hands up ready to be escorted out. The bouncer hears our side of the story and realizes how ridiculous his other employees have been acting. Having been disrespected so badly, our whole group of friends decide to leave.
Honestly, I was enjoying myself there. I could have stayed for a lot longer and spent a lot more money but we all bounced. Straight up, this small occasion has cost them customers. It seems like a common occurance at this bar. With countless other places to grab a drink nearby, I would never even consider coming back to this bar in this lifetime.
You gotta Love this bar!
My favorite place in Stamford, to get a drink or two, and enjoy having a conversation with one or more friends.
I catch up the soccer matches at Tigin as well. It has the right atmosphere to do so, however (an that's the only reason it doesn't have 5 stars) most of the  TV sets are small, apart of  the big projector screen (not always is use). An upgrade of the small Tv''s will make this place perfect for soccer fans.
In terms of food, you have to try the potato wedges, and the Irish breakfast.
Prices are OK, and you can reserve a section of the bar for a semi-private party (I have done it several times already).
If you dont like trivia, avoid trivia nights, because it could be annoying hearing the questions and results through the microphone for 2+ hours.
Music is good, and not too loud, so its easy to hear and follow a conversation while at the bar.
DISCLAIMER: I'm really pissed. But, please allow me to explain:
Oh how I wanted to LOVE this place! Aside from its convenient location to my apartment, this place had the cozy atmosphere (fireplaces and all) that I'd always longed for since leaving the comfort of the cozy bars I'd been accustomed to in rural CT.
However, atmosphere aside, this place has rubbed me the wrong way - more than once. Let me explain my last encounter at Tigin.
It was Sunday night (ie. Sunday football) and a group of friends and I decided to grab a drink at Tigin since weather was permitting (it was dark, dreary, rainy). Perhaps I had too many beers, but nonetheless, my new iPhone 5 went missing. It seemed to have vanished from my table.
Puzzled, I asked our waiter if perhaps he had mistakenly cleared it with our glasses, etc. He then became very enraged and accused ME of accusing HIM of taking my phone. So I left. I turned on my "Fine My Phone" app and the app was leading me directly back to Tigin. I turned on the "Lost My Phone" option, and almost immediately got an alert that my phone had been found - which means someone turned it on (at "176" Bedford St - which doesn't exist, Tigin is conveniently located at 175 Bedford St). So I went back to see if it had been handed in.
By now, the gentleman who was previously our waiter (and now clearly intoxicated) was now mocking me, along with my friends, when we wanted to check and see if the phone had slipped somewhere between the cushions, had been left in the ladies room, or had been turned in to the bar staff.
When we couldn't find it, and the bar staff had suggested that I wait until the morning to see if the cleaning crew had picked it up, I thanked him and said "we really aren't trying to accuse anyone". Â So I called in the morning (Monday) and a very nice woman picked up the phone, she promised me that she would look for it and that she would let me know if she found it.
I went back today, Tuesday, to have a couple of drinks with some girl friends. The moment we walked in the door we were harassed by the gentleman who was our waiter that Sunday evening. He kept saying "I'm innocent! I didn't take it!" We ignored him, and went to the bar. When I was leaving I asked the woman working behind the bar if she would kindly see if an iPhone had been turned in.
She returned, handed me my tab (she closed it out) and said (patronizingly), and I quote: "IF ANYONE FROM OUR BAR FOUND YOUR PHONE IT WOULD BE BACK HERE WITH ME. YOUR PHONE IS NOT HERE" and she turned around and whispered something to the other bartender, clearly saying something rude about me - and he laughed.
Is looking for your phone somewhere where 1. you had last used it and 2. an application tracking your phone indicated that Tigin was its last location (and the location where it had been "found") too absurd of an idea? Is it too bothersome to their staff? Should I have taken some other form of action? I am certain that anyone else who had been in my situation with a phone worth over $1,000 would have done the same.
And never, at any point, did I or anyone I was with accuse ANYONE of taking the phone. PERIOD. I still genuinely do not think anyone that works at the bar took my phone. Honest to God.
Please, if I was out of line, forgive me. But I have certainly experienced better customer service at a local Starbucks than I would ever expect from this place. I am appalled at their lack of action, as well as attitude toward and overall treatment of a once regular customer.
I absolutely love this bar.
I used to live in NY & would go up to Stamford to visit my sister & my nephew roughly once a week. The little dude (my nephew) was taking a nap when I got off the train one day & my sister couldn't pick me up. "No biggie." I said. "I'll walk." It was a nice day out & after sitting on the train for 45 minutes, I wanted to stretch my legs anyway. So off I went. That's when I stumbled across Tigin. Truth be told, I had to pee. Really badly. So I poked my head inside & asked if I could use their restroom. To my relief, they obliged. On my way out, I looked around a bit, taking the place in & thought to myself "Wow. This is really cute. I need to come back here with my sister sometime." So I did.
We went for a stroll downtown a few weeks later & sat outside for lunch with the little man in his stroller. The service was great. The salads were large & tasty. And the beer was cold & refreshing. The only problem was that my sister didn't get to explore the inside since the little man was starting to get a bit fussy. So I just HAD to take her back there again for a night on the town. ;)
Cut to a few months later & we returned for a girls night out. Just as I suspected, she loved it. As did I. The bar has a cool, unique design to it & the vibe was just what we were looking for. Cool, laid back, fun & real. Not a "scene" where everybody seems to be trying too hard. Know what I mean?
Well, cut to 7 years later & it's still my favorite spot in Stamford. We've been going there ever since. The service is always great. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad experience there. Whether we're looking to sit outside & relax on a warm sunny day or let our hair down on any given night, Tigin is without fail, our go to spot. Great draft beer, great atmosphere, great warm, friendly & attentive service... What more could you ask for? No joke, when I fly back east from LA & my sister comes to pick me up at the airport, we go straight to Tigin for a pint. That's when I know I'm home.
Tigin's gets my undisputed "Best Bar in Stamford" award.
Almost every other bar in Downtown Stamford is completely cookie cutter. Bradfords, Tiernan's, SBC, Black Bear... You go to one, you've been to them all. A few taps, some decent food, and a completely memory-less experience.
Tigin's, however, is plucked right out of Ireland... I truly believe it would survive as a business on the streets of Dublin. The bar itself winds about the place, pretty much covering the entire left side of the establishment. This setup offers you multiple areas to stick your head in for an order, even if it's crowded.
Strongbow on tap? Yes please. Awesome pub food? More please. You'll be glad you went to Tigin's, because you'll actually remember it.
Haven't been to Tigin in a while but stopped for lunch today. Food is good. Very festive, I forgot how fun it is to be there, especially at noon when everyone is starting happy hour.
Service was attentive and friendly and looked after all tables.
Definitely a must stop for an afternoon of food and beers while catching some sun.
I reeealllyyy liked Tigins ! The atmosphere is almost unexpected. From the outside you think it'll be maybe no different from any other bar or pub. Once you walk in, though, you suddenly feel like you've escaped to another place. There are little corners to sit in, big fireplaces made of (from what I remember) cobblestone, two or so different bars to be near. nice chairs and couches. There are T.V's around incase you are there to watch sports but it isn't overwhelming. The staff was very nice and super helpful. They work together and not race you in and out to try to make more money from other customers. Its very laid back and relaxing. I went one Sunday afternoon with a friend for lunch and drinks and I will be going back asap.
Review Source:I live in Stamford and Tigin's is a place I go to eat pretty often. Their food is outstanding - even the salad's are great!
I've had the burger and it's cooked to perfection. The bread they use isn't ordinary burger bread. I've had their pear/blue cheese salad, which is tossed with their homemade poppy seed dressing. It's honestly one of the best salad's I've ever had - very refreshing, and not too "fatty" and overdone as much restaurant salad's tend to be. I've had their brie and turkey melt. Again, amazing. I couldn't find anything wrong with it. Their mango chutney is amazing.
I'm not a beer drinker (I know, I know, for shame!) so I had a long island and it was one of the best long island's I've ever had. That says a lot for a place known for their beer.
I love Tigin's and I go all the time, mostly for their food. Woooo Tigin's!
Great Draught beer selection, really good food and an even better Pub styled atmosphere. Sometimes I forget this place is in Stamford! Â the bar staff is non too shabby either.
Also Tuesday nights they have a trivia night apparently which to me seals the deal on this being the perfect place in Downtown Stamford.
Some of the best fish and chips I've ever had. Â It's a handsome bar, too, with lots of nice woodwork. Â You will feel pretty short if you sit at the bar. Â Either the bar is unusually high or the stools are too small. Â Still, this is an excellent Irish pub. Â Be sure to carpool. Â Parking in Stamford is a bitch.
Review Source:Staff is great, bartenders to kitchen, lots of longer term people that know their customers, and that makes a pub like this special.
The beer feels expensive, but they are 20oz pints so its almost 2 for 1...
Good Food, patio in summer, fireplaces in winter. They know how to serve guinness properly.
Decent cover bands on Friday/Saturday later, sometimes a really cool original band comes around once in a while.
This place is charming and reminds me of the pub I used to go to in my hometown, but Tigin makes better fish 'n chips!
Some of the menu options are a little less than authentic- caprese sandwich? I guess they assumed a pub menu can't please everyone...?
Their shepherd's pie is pretty good, and everyone that's had it raves about the bacon burger. I also love the hot mustard they offer at the table.
I was here for St. Patty's day and ordered the Strongbow cider and fish 'n chips; you get a pretty big plate of food for $13. On the regular menu you can order a half portion for $9, which is still more than enough food for one person. It puts the overpriced mess at Mitchell's to shame. Trust me, I've eaten a lot of fish 'n chips.
The service is a little on the slower side sometimes, but I think it's kind of appropriate for the atmosphere and definitely not worth complaining about. You can definitely eat here for your lunch hour and make it back to work on time.
I've also read complaints about the layout, which is kind of cramped and dark...but I think that's pretty standard for a pub.
My friend and I are pretty sure an order of fried Green beans made us sick, either that or a dirty set of shot glasses. Didn't drink too much, we both got a very mild case of food poisoning.
It's the only thing we both ate that day, so it was fairly easy to narrow it down.
Other than that I like the inside, the bartenders, the beer selection, and the food (until it gets you sick).
I think we'll sit, eat and day drink, the summer suns calling our names...
I went to visit my little sister (sorority sister...yes i still cannot say friend) because she moved to Stamford some time ago. Â We wanted to grab a bite to eat. Â There was much contemplation over where to eat. Â Katie said to me..well we can go to Lucky's or Tigin..well i mean if you want to drink we should go to Tigin...ooohhhhh kkk. Â choice made.
I love the little outdoor seating area and how you can people watch. Â I guess the review is biased because i didn't actually go inside but i'm sure it's great. Â They have a perfect menu. Â It gives you variety but not too much so. Â If you're like me and constantly are glancing from one section of the menu to the next to next...oh wait no that first thing i looked at sounded good..Tigin will be your best friend. Â Short, sweet, to the point, just like me.
I got, well i forget the exact name but it's the chicken sandwich with pesto on ciabatta. Â My little sis got the smaller portion of fish and chips which she claims are bomb. Â Our waiter came over while we were deciding what to sip on. Â Then he said two magic words, Sam Summer..ahhhh the sun shined a little brighter at that moment as the beer gods smiled down upon us. Â They have paper place mats that have cute quotes on them. Â Of course I can no longer remember what mine said. Â It was the perfect pearl of wisdom though I assure you that. Â The food was perfect. Â Fantastic food, great service, fabulous find in downtown Stamford.
one of the BEST Irish pubs I have ever been to. I love to have lunch here and sit outside. They have a nice sidewalk area with great people watching! The inside is all wood and benches, and coziness. The food is unbeatable, some of the most authentic Irish pub food in the area. Of course a freshly poured Guinness is just the thing to go with all of their awesome food.
Great atmosphere, great people, great service, great food! I keep going back again and again.
Great Irish fare in the middle of stamford. Â I've eaten here a few times and the staff have always been friendly and attentive. Â Must try's are the trinity steak boxty (its like steak in a big potato pancake) and the harp battered green beans. Â Its also a great place to go grab a pint. Â Only potential downside is that it is relatively small if you wanted to go out here with a large group. Â But that makes it slightly more personal, right?
Review Source:This place is not bad. The food, I hear, is good. And it always looks good, so I'll give it that. I do agree that the layout can be a problem. Fills to capacity pretty quickly. Beer selection is real good. I'm not sure what people mean by saying this place is cheap. I feel like it's like $9 beer night whenever I go here. Seriously, a Hoegaarden is like $6/$6.50 then with tip it's like $7/8, so you order 2 beers and there goes $20.
If you want to save some money and have a place to sit, try Bradford's a few doors down. The food and drinks are cheaper, however, so is the atmosphere. But still a good time.
I've never been out to eat here, but at night this place is a lot of fun! The best night is Wednesday when they do Pub Quiz. You come in with a group of people (or by yourself, but it's more fun with more people) and they hand your a little booklet to put your answers in. Then the DJ guy asks questions throughout the night, and if you know the answer, you write it down. There are like 4 rounds of questions, and each round has a winner. This is a lot of fun, and it's usually very crowded, so get there early! I believe the Pub Quiz starts at either 8:00pm or 8:30pm.
Review Source:Tign's is one of those places where, when it's busy, you're in the way no matter where you stand. Aside from that I love this place. It's got a nice cozy feel to it. They have a very good beer selection and their food is awesome. (For you beer connoisseurs, they have Paulaner Heifeweizen. Can't beat it.) The waitstaff is always friendly. The bouncers are friendly.
Nothing I don't like about this place.
Nothing particularly special about this place. It's your typical cookie-cutter corporately owned (sister of Fado) Irish bar. In other words, it's a McPub. That's no surprise, considering it came from a box. No... literally. They had some company in Ireland create the materials, pack them in boxes, and ship them Stateside.
I'll never understand why places like this are such a huge deal. They're a dime a dozen. It was one thing when it was still a new concept, but there's a million Irish Pubs all over the place now. The "wow" factor of pouring a proper Guinness and having Champion's League "football" on a few TVs is nonexistent. I'm not saying I hate Irish Pubs, I'm just saying that I don't see the need to have dozens of them in close proximity.
As far as food goes, the fish and chips I had were meh. Greasy and flavorless. We got some other food, but it was so unmemorable I couldn't even tell you what. Which, I suppose, is better than it being awful, because then I would have remembered, so I'll sort of give them a back-handed compliment for not being terrible.
One other thing that I think is worth mentioning: I swear that I remember seeing a couple of reviews on here where a couple of 20-something year old women talked about the manager at this place being drunk, intrusive, uncomfortably touchy-feely, and offensive towards them. Now the reviews are magically gone, but under the details part of the review (BYOB, good for kids, etc.) there are still "votes" which have been tabulated. Shady, if you ask me. So, girls, you might want to watch out for that.
Anyway, Tigin has outdoor seating on the sidewalk, which, admittedly, always scores points with me.
Ultimately, Tigin follows the "Irish Pubs for Dummies" model, and, for the most part, delivers on what it attempts. I just don't give a crap.
