Spicy bbq chicken wings. 14 pieces for $17.  I can smell the barbecue. The sweetness was overpowered by the spicy heat. Beyond medium heat I'd get at Great Seas, buffalo Wild Wings, or Hooters. This was equivalent to a habenero. Numbing. The chicken tasted marinated. Good crisp, salt, tender, juicy after chicken rested for few minutes. It took thirty minutes for order to be complete. Wore glove and used chopsticks. Too messy to eat. Pickled daikon, strawberry milk from H Mart, or coconut water did not kill the Scoville. Bought ranch dressing. Poured half a bottle to "rinse" the sticky sauce off crispy batter. It helped a bit. The spice gave me heartburn. I will go back to try non spicy. Number 2 recommended for kids.

Was at the H-Mart, so decided that I would give it a try. It was good, but I still prefer Dak on Granville in Chicago. But definitely worth a try. Becareful, when they say spicy, they mean it!

    Good stuff.
While I don't think the size of the wings is a complete ripoff, with tax it was almost $19 for a box of chicken. I'd say I got around 10?

We ordered a box of split original and garlic. Honestly, I'm not sure which was which... one was quite sweet and very flavorful, the other not so much. I suspect the nonflavorful one was garlic but completely devoid of any garlicky goodness.  They come with pickled radishes, which are absolutely essential for cutting the fattiness of the chicken, just simple but very good. The honey mustard on the side is fairly ordinary... doesn't go well with the flavors on the chicken I don't think.

huge plus that it's fried fresh, and it's hot and crispy when it comes to you because it's not totally drenched in an overwhelming sauce (I think the order I got had significantly less sauce than I'm seeing on some of these pictures...) So I'd place my order and wander around Hmart for ~20min. Pretty convenient.

Beware that they close much earlier than Hmart does. I'd guess around 7 just judging by the times I've visited Hmart to see it closed/open, but don't quote me on that time.

3.5, mainly because of the sucky garlic one.

For $18.73 of fried chicken take out, I expected the taste to be phenomenal. This one was just ok. I read the rave reviews and I was surprised that I wasn't impressed. I'm willing to admit that I'm somewhat frugal when it comes to dining out and that the taste and portion of the food needs to justify the price...and only when the taste/flavor is completely innovative, distinctive, and out of this world will I waive the price point. Toreore fell short, unfortunately.

I got the Garlic and the Sweet & Spicy combination. The chicken itself was cooked well, but the garlic flavor was too subtle and the sweet &spicy was just sweet. Maybe I'm used to more heat in my "spicy" foods because this one had no kick at all. The other thing with the sweet & spicy sauce is that it made the chicken lose its crisp by the time I got home, not more than 10 minutes later.

I don't want to say that this place is bad because it's not. The chicken is decent, just not for the price. So when you go and you think you're getting the chicken in its pretty box (which by the way is as annoying to throw away as a pizza box)...remember that you are paying for that pretty packaging. Some people are ok with paying for presentation; I'm not one of those people.

I've always seen this place while shopping in H-Mart but always passed it by thinking "$16 for chicken wings?  What a rip-off!"  I'm glad my friend suggested this place because boy was I wrong.  These are not your little bitty chicken wings you would get at a sports bar for 50 cents but actual large pieces of chicken.  And probably about 15 pieces for chicken per order, which makes it fairly reasonable.  As many others have mentioned, after you order expect to wait 20 minutes for it to be fried/prepped..

The chicken comes in a cute and convenient box that includes pickled radish, chopsticks, napkins, and even disposable kitchen gloves to use so you don't get your hands messy!  We ordered a box of 1/2 & 1/2 (half sweet/spicy and half garlic tasty).  The garlic chicken was good (crispy & not dry at all) but I didn't like the sweet/spicy as much because the sauce drowned the crispiness of the fried chicken.  Very good Korean fried chicken, just make sure you give yourself time for the stuff to be prepared!

I came here on a Friday evening with friends at around 6:00PM..It wasn't busy at all; however, we still had to wait for our chicken to be fried/cooked.. (i guess this is a good thing.. since it's fresh and warm...but not good if you want something to go ASAP)..

the wait is about 20-30 mins, but the wait for the food isn't too bad though since the restaurant is located inside H-Mart.. you have some options while you wait....you can walk around and eat samples at H-Mart or.. end up buying more food which will slowly start to fill you up by the time that the chicken is ready....there's a bakery right around the corner if you want to eat bread with your chicken.. or kimbbap at H-Mart if you want some type of rice w/ your chicken...:)

Garlic chicken: delicious, crispy, and served hot (warm hot)... :)

Sweet & Spicy chicken: I didn't enjoy this one as much....the sauce is just ok..

**chicken comes with korean pickled radish.. very delicious... goes perfectly w/ chicken...has a vinegary & sweet taste to it... so if you aren't a fan of vinegar.. you might not like it...

Costs: we got 1 order of half Garlic chicken and half Sweet & Sour chicken for around $16.99+ ....yay for being able to have half & half.. so you can try more than one flavor..

Food portions: 4 ppl can share with one order of chicken.. *4 ppl that eat moderately (2-3 pieces each?)...

Atmosphere:  it's like a chicken joint at a food court...you can come here with friends or family...

Miscellaneous tip: you should probably go to H-Mart and buy some drinks while you are waiting since it'll probably be cheaper than the ones they sell at Toreore...:)

I would come here again because I would like to try the other chicken flavors.. :)

The lady ain't joking when she warns you that the chicken is not just "hot", but "hot hot hot".  She's not messing around.  That chicken is kickin!

First off, I love Korean fried chicken joints since they supply you with plastic gloves (it gets a bit messy).  Oh and the pickled daikon radish.  Some people really dislike the daikon, but it's a must for me.  They're tasty, plus they help your mouth cool off a little from the blazing hot sauce.  The chicken is fried crispy, but they're absolutely doused in their sweet and spicy sauce.  My friend and I split the #6 Hot Sweet & Spicy.  It definitely lived up to the lady's warning, but it was worth it.  I love spicy food, but I don't think I've sweat that much in a while!  On the way to the bathroom, I actually saw someone had left a hot sauce hand print on the wall.  I guess they couldn't handle the chicken and collapsed.

$15.99 gets you an order of fried chicken and there are non-spicy options available, such as the marinated nuggets or sweet garlic.  Also the chicken is fried to order so it takes about 20 minutes, which gives you enough time to get groceries.

I've always said I wish I could be a vegetarian but chicken is what really messes me up! Case in point - Toreore. They have amazing chicken!!! What would a life be without such mouthwatering chicken?

I'm happy with this new-ish (two years old now!) edition to H-Mart in Niles because it brings some seriously good chicken to their food court area. I'm a dork and I love the name - Toreore Chicken & Joy with the cute logo picture of a fox. ^_^ Even their boxes are super cute. I don't see how I can go to H-Mart and not get their chicken now that I know it exists! They use vegetable oil which means No Trans Fat....and that makes me feel healthy while consuming deep fried white meat.

Toreore offers varying levels of spice on their wings. My friends got the hottest level they have and they were dying. I have a picture of them wearing the provided plastic gloves & sweating while eating the wings and am debating putting it up. My evil side says yes, the world needs to see what these super spicy wings do to a couple of adult men who have grown up eating super spicy food their whole life! My angelic side says no, they will pinch you if you post the picture. Decisions, decisions!

Personally, I stick with the non spicy girly stuff. I also like to stick with no bones, so I ordered their 'chicken nuggets' (konglish Takteggim as I call it  - popcorn chicken) for $15.99. That may sound like a lot but the portion is huge! I shared the box with my friend and it was still way too much for the two of us. Even the two guys sharing their box of super duper spicy wings couldn't finish that off. Considering you can feed a few people with one order, it's a good deal!

Once you order, it takes them 20 minutes to fry it up. I love knowing I'm getting my meal just out of the bubbling oil . The chicken is moist, succulent and rivals my all time favorite popcorn chicken at Yewosaii. The nuggets include a yummy dipping sauce that only adds to the flavor. The orders include moo (radish) which I'm not a fan of at all but it definitely helps if you're getting a spicy order of chicken.

I've fallen in love with Toreore!

    Fantastic Korean Fried chicken!

This was my first time having Korean Fried Chicken, so I may have a different perspective but I was needless to say--incredibly impressed. I had the Garlic and Tasty Chicken and it exceeded my expectations. It tasted FANTASTIC. I liked how the meat was more moist and less oily than typical American Fried Chicken.  Not to mention, they include pickled radishes that help dilute the taste of the oily chicken and GLOVES!  The Marinade Fried Chicken is pretty tasty too. That comes with honey mustard too! The gloves are actually really helpful so you don't get dirty, or if you're eating them on a car trip home because you simply can't wait any longer.

Only downside is it is a little pricey and you have to wait 20 minutes--which is odd for fast food. However, you can easily do some shopping at H-Mart while waiting for the food! When you get your food, it will be BUBBLING hot so it's worth the wait. This is no KFC or Popeyes :)

I was really torn between 3 and 4 stars.

3 because once again... I was so spoiled by BBQ chicken in Arlington Heights.  That place was on the verge of greatness.  The sauceless bb hot wings were just the greatest wing I've ever had.

I hate to say it, but that wing became my gold standard that I held all other Korean chicken joints to.

I'll give this place the benefit of the doubt and up it to a 4 star.

    Why?

The regular "number 1" chicken meal reminds me of the "olive chicken" at BBQ.  Only wish it was a little more crispier.  Similar flavor, but just not as crunchy.  Still pretty good.

The garlic was alright, but I wish it had more garlic in it.

The sweet and spicy was a little sweet in my opinion and I actually am gearing toward wings with less sauce as it sort of takes away from the batter.  Again BBQ had the best battered sauce-less and sauced wings since it held the crunch...

How corny, but those who've ever been to BBQ know...

Still this is the closet place to it.  Meat is super tender.  Even the breast pieces are super moist and juicy.

Do yourself a favor.  Go to the Chinese joint across the cafeteria and grab some rice and eat some chicken.

One thing to note is you can mix and match.  It's a bit pricey for one or two people to order 2 boxes.  That's waaaay too much food.  You can order one box and mix it up!

Only been here once but they have seriouly great fried Chicken. I tried the Garlic Chicken and it was really juicy and tasty. The lady behind the counter didn't understand me and I didn't understand her but we managed to figure out the order. if in H-Mart, go to Toreore

Delicious fried chicken! I recommend get a half and half order, but regardless there was easily enough chicken for 3-4 people. Since the chicken is made right when you order, you have to wait 20 minutes or so until you get your food. During that time, I suggest the following:

    1. Wander around H-Mart and find a light drink of choice. We went with a fruit smoothie.

    2. Get an order or two of rice from one of the other food court vendors.

These two additions to your meal will nicely balance out the chicken. We've tried the Garlic Tasty, Sweet and Spicy, and Hot Sweet and Spicy. The Sweet and Spicy is barely spicy and more sweet, and the Hot Sweet and Spicy is very hot and barely sweet. I think the ideal case for that flavor would be 2/3 Sweet and Spicy and 1/3 Hot Sweet and Spicy, but I haven't tried asking them to mix the sauce in that ratio.

If you're in the mood for something HOT and SWEET, you've got to try this.  This place caught our eye while we were grocery shopping, but never really tried it until a few weeks ago.  When we placed the order, the cashier said, "Are you sure?  Have you had this before?  It's REALLY spicy."  Reluctantly, we went for it, and now we can't get enough of the Hot Sweet and Spicy chicken. Talk about SPICY!!!  It's so hot you'll be crying and in pain.  Each time you take a bite, you know it's gonna hurt, but it's worth it.  It's like Popeyes chicken dipped in spicy Korean sauce.  We like it with a bowl of plain white rice (and a glass of milk on the side).

If you're going to try this, I suggest taking it home.  For one, there isn't much room; just a handful of tables and chairs next to the counter.  It's right next to the fruits and vegetables section of the grocery store and very close to the main entrance. Two, there's a lot of shopper traffic.  And three, you probably don't want to be crying in front of all those people.

We've also had the Garlic Tasty (sweet with real garlic); and the Sweet and Spicy (sweet and very mild).  These were good too, but the Hot Sweet and Spicy is our favorite.

We tried this out while we were at Hmart. We got the garlic chicken and the sweet and spicy chicken. Both flavors were pretty delicious. At first I preferred the garlic but the sweet and spicy started growing on me. We ate a few pieces at the little table by the shop, and then we brought the rest home. It comes with nice little containers of  pickled daikon too.

Yum! Love Korean style fried chicken. The lady was nice, informing us what is good. We ended up ordering sweet and spicy chicken. I felt like the chicken had too much sauce and the pieces got soggy very quickly. But overall, I will def go back to try other flavors. The portion is decent, the chicken seemed fresh. And most importantly, oil didn't look old or dirty.

I hate to give this place a less than stellar review but I was not thrilled by the chicken. We got an order of the sweet and spicy chicken which was too sweet in my opinion and did not have any fire to it.  The nice lady had recommended against the super hot and spicy chicken but I was really looking forward to some spice! Also, I was really expecting fried chicken with crispy skin but what we got was chicken once fried than drenched in red, sweet sauce.

However, this place gets 5 stars in service. The ladies behind the counter are super nice and the chicken comes in a box  with complimentary disposable gloves so you can eat the chicken without getting your fingers all messy!

Don't live in Chicago.. but if I'm ever back, I think I will try the garlic flavor which seemd to not be drenched in sauce.

    Best fried chicken ever!

She batters, fries and seasons the chicken after you order!  It's so fresh.  I watched as she was making me hungrier but I was hoping to learn something too.  Where do I get a deep fry vat like that and where can I put it? Hmmm....

Ok but the suck is that it takes 20 min.  Seriously, this is not fast food!  It's like your momma cooking chicken from scratch.

    Strategy....

Place your order then go grocery shopping with your list, because you should always have a list at H Mart otherwise you'll come out looking like you just left Costco.  Then come back to pick up the best non transfat (i don't know what that means but it makes me feel better), fried chicken in the cutest box ever!

** get the garlic and number 2!  Yum!!

Carried out quiet a few times...

They are known to use healthy cooking oils to fry their Chicken.

    It's not that greasy either!

If you crave a good deep friend Korean style chicken, this would be a good option for carry-out! (only because it's inside the H-mart)

The lady that took my order was pretty patient with me regarding all of my questions....

Bonus points for them for using cardboard style carry-out boxes, instead of using plastic or Styrofoam containers!

We also got the spicy sauce on the side just so that we can have keep the crispiness of the chicken when we brought it home and to control the amount of sauce as necessary for each individual.

Aside from the sauce, the chicken itself it pretty well seasoned!

We'll definitely carry-out again in the future!

sorry - don't believe all the hype about how "great" this chicken is. The FLAVOR is one thing, but the chicken that you get is another story.

We ordered a half/half of garlic seasoning and sweet & spicy (something similar. forget the actual style).

the half and half box came out to about $20 and you have to wait 20 minutes for the chicken to be cooked and then seasoned.

The garlic seasoning is tasty - it doesn't look like much, but the sauce is brushed on by hand and someone really comes through. taste alone i give it four stars.

The sweet & Spicy is really good. Not terribly spicy (a good thing) the heat hits you slowly. And the sweetness to the sauce gives it a nice balance.

Where Toreore falls short is the chicken pieces. I estimate half of the pieces I ate had 75% bone and 20% chicken, 5% skin/other.  You get two drumsticks, some wings, but then a lot of random chicken pieces like rib cage, hip, elbow (kidding). But that kind of gives you an idea of the skimpy meat on the bones. At KFC or Popeyes, you can always bet on getting chicken with meat.

I hate to only give this place three stars, because I love fried chicken, especially korean fried chicken, but I have to ask, "where's the chicken!"

    Toreore is for those who:
crave the savory delights of korean fried chicken
and are patient (remember, 20 minutes from ordering)

Spare the bird and fly the Toreore coup if:
you like fried chicken and not fried skin and bones
    are hungry! (and can't wait)
    Don't like fried foods (duh)

"Packaging phenomenal, chicken mediocre.  Couldn't understand what the side was for, or what it was.  Nor how to use 6 sets of chopsticks or what the 3 single gloves were for.  Chicken wasn't dry, sauce was great but alot.  Overly sauced.  Still give it 3 out of 5.  Love the animation."  - This review was from my friend Christopher.

"La salsa perfecta.  It tatses great.  But not enough meat on the chicken." - This review was from Santos

I agree with these guys.  Next stop Chicken Inn.

This may be the best fried chicken I've ever had.  Now, I suppose that may be because most of my comparisons are to KFC, Popeyes, and an assortment of NJ diners.  Although I think it may even be better than Crisp.

Of course, I haven't tried most of the different flavors so I'll likely need to review again in the future.

If anyone can suggest better fried chicken please do so.  Because if there is something better, I'll enter into fried chicken Nirvana.

What makes it so good?  The coating is fantastically crispy, and although it's clearly greasy (look at those dripping fingers) it doesn't taste as such.  Plus there's this great flavor sitting just under the crust.  And that's the just the basic flavor.  I'm looking forward to trying the others.

Any downsides?  Yes, they only serve one size, which is a full box of 14 pieces.  But now that I know that my kids like it, ordering a box is no problem.

I love Toreore! I got their chicken again for the Superbowl last night and it was a big hit. They have amazing fried chicken, and it's worth the trip from Chicago to pick it up.

We ordered the normal Sweet & Spicy which is not really spicy. Great flavor, a personal favorite. I have had the garlic flavor too, but like other reviewers I found that it was hard to get rid of the garlic flavor from my mouth even after repeated tooth brushing and scope-ing.

My only grip with Toreore is it's so expensive for just one person. They used to do 1/2 orders, but I think they got rid of that because they were probably not as profitable that way. Now if I want to get one order of chicken I'm spending almost $20. It's really good chicken, and I think the quality is great. So it's worth the price every once in a while. But, this is really a better place to order from if you are planning to share it with other people

You can call ahead because it takes 20 minutes to make the chicken. They literally do everything by hand, so the process can get a bit lengthy if they are trying to fulfill a lot of orders. But, I prefer to order when I get there because Super H Mart is fun to explore and walk around for 20 minutes while they prep your food.

Would give 5 stars if they had smaller portions at reduced rates....

Are you ready to don the glove?

It's important to communicate that a trip to Toreore means that you are prepared for a seriously intense meal. There are no personal sized portions. One dish serves at least three normal people. The garlic chicken is incredibly good but leaves you smelling like garlic for hours. The sweet and spicy chicken will literally have you tearing up like you ate a ball of wasabi if it gets in your throat. For utensils you get chop sticks (worthless) and plastic gloves.

Definitely call ahead or plan for a wait while they turn their oil heaters on and blast your chicken. This place rocks but come prepared.

This isn't your typical visit to KFC or Popeyes.  This is the real deal folks.  You get real chicken, breaded in real flour, and it's all MADE TO ORDER.  Some people can't stand the wait, others think its a sign of quality and integrity; I fall in the latter category, so I can justify waiting 15 minutes for the chicken.  It's just the 15 minute ride home that's torturous.  The aroma of fried meat can't be contained in the cute Toreore box everything is neatly packaged in.  But oooh wait until you take that first bite...

They have a few different flavors you can pick from Mild to Sweet and Spicy.  My favorites are the garlic and the sweet and spicy but take your pick because they're all good. The meat is always juicy and steaming when you bite into it.  Not to get all Korean on ya'll but the sweet potatoes mixed in the batter is the shiiiizzz!  Who woulda thought adding some sweet potato to the breading would add SO MUCH FLAVOR!?!  It's definitely worth getting excited over (I'm drooling.. again)

You can also split an order to accommodate your taste buds but I'd rather just get an extra order than compromise my fried chicken :)  The prices are slightly higher than your local fried chicken joint but if you're willing to spend an extra couple bucks for chicken significantly better than your local KFC or Popeyes, then Toreore will be worth your dime.

One setback about Toreore, relative to KFC or Popeyes, is they don't have biscuits or mashed potatoes or any of the other sides you might associate to your enjoyment of fried chicken.  It bums me out when I just want a biscuit and some baked beans with my fried chicken... but a man has to compromise, I guess.

Anyway, one thing I always wonder is how they cut their chicken.  It's not odd to get a big piece of chicken, not knowing which part you're eating, then BAM! you realize there wasn't even a bone in that piece.  Yup, its the little things that always get to me.  Like the little plastic glove they always pack- no one likes messy fingers sopping in spicy sauce!

There's no other place I go for my fried chicken fix.  I'd be willing to trek over to this place even if I lived 40 miles away.  There are only a select few places that I could say that about, and this is definitely one of them.
Now as far as getting those biscuits and mashed potatoes...

I actually liked it.  I'm guessing I tried this "cheaper chicken" but it tasted pretty good.  I got the #6 Hot Sweet and Spicy chicken.  I love spicy stuff, but this stuff was pretty freaking hot.  The first piece wasnt' too bad; but the subsequent ones got me sweating.  I kinda shudder at their hottest chicken the "bul dak"

I almost fainted from eating that in Korea...maybe I'm getting soft.  Either way, the price was a bit much; but the chicken pieces were pretty damn big and meaty.  Not like buffalo wings.

All the orders come with the daikon radish, which is typical of Korean fried chicken.  I have been to Crisp and Cheo Ga Jip; and this one is defintely the better one.  The chicken is bigger and juicier; radishes were very very good.  Cheo Ga's can be a bit lacking.  Crisp...to be honest; isn't really like what you would get in Korea. So I think they should use the term loosely.

Unfortunately this is a take out place, though they have seating.  Some ambiance would nice.  Chicken places in Korea are usually kinda hole in the wall, beer taverny kinda places.  Of course, the chicken goes great with beer.  Especially watery runny Korean beer.  I recommend Cass or OB.

This place is a must try for fried chicken lovers.  ~Cheers

This eatery joint inside the mega Super H Mart only sells Korean fried chicken of all kinds. While it's pricey ($14-17/order) and the wait is lengthy (15-20 min) but it's a well worth treat every once in a while. It's made right to order so it's fresh and piping hot when those savory morsels enter your mouth.

We tried half sweet and spicy and half garlic. The garlic was by far my favorite. It's very flavorful, rightly tender, and juicy. The sweet and spicy they cover it with a viscous sauce which got pretty heavy. Too bad they don't offer rice because it would have made for a perfect pairing.

The nice boxes it comes in also contains plastic gloves for convenient eating (fried chicken can get messy, esp the sweet and sour one!) as well as pickled radish which may sound strange but complimented it very well.
