Towey's is great. Â It's filled with locals and smoke. Â Drinks are cheap and the service is blah. Â But it's a dive bar! That's what it's supposed to be. Â You can just throw on a pair of jeans and a tshirt and grab a drink, not like many other bars in town. Â Nice just to relax and have a drink.
Review Source:Towey's is such a classy establishment. By classy, I mean they only take cash, the no smoking ban is ignored, and they only have Yuengling (which is fine by me) and two other beers on tap. If you want food after 8pm, you'll have to walk across the street to McDonald's or stop at Wawa on your way home. Once there was a sign in the ladies room informing me that it was under surveillance for security reasons. Yeah. Â It's always an experience at Towey's.
Review Source:Towey's Tavern is a gem in Chestnut Hill. Â There are one or two other dive bars on the hill, but this one takes the cake as the divey-est.
The place reeks of cigarettes (people still smoke here, despite the ban). Â The general appearance is a little unkempt, and the decor probably hasn't changed since the 70s. Â
This is probably the cheapest place to get a beer in Chestnut Hill. Â The crowd here is good too, the people usually are nice to talk to. Â Everyone's friendly. Â They apparently serve food, but rarely ever. Â I think they only serve it in the afternoon. Â
The beer selection is decent (by  the bottle, nothing good on tap).  I just really like the laid back and blue collar feel in ritzy Chestnut Hill.  This is a little escape from all the pretty stuff on the hill, sometimes much needed.
