This place gets points for
- Having their own parking lot. Yay for not having to be scared of my car being towed!
- Original shot and mixed drink concoctions. They have a variety of mixed drinks you can get. Your girlfriend or inner girlie-drink fairy will be happy here.
- Having darts. A must at a bar.
- Spacious interior
- Clean bathroom
- Tasty bar food (the tatertos, pork chops, kimchee fried rice are great but skip the nachos).
This place gets no points for
- Being kind of pricey... The drinks (although interesting) are pretty expensive if you're not getting just a beer. The soju carafe isn't worth it to me because they put SO MUCH ICE into it. It's cubed ice too, so the amount of mixed drink you're getting is probably 1/4 of the carafe without all the ice.
I'd stick to beer or a regular mixed drink.
- Their happy hour doesn't offer a great deal. And they don't have specials on most nights.
- Service is hit or miss. They're attentive, then not. Then attentive, then not. Friendly, then not so much. They also don't know the menu too well. When I've asked on their prices for shots, domestics, specials, etc they had to go and check and came back 5 minutes later.
Overall, it's a chill spot. Away from the city and in a quiet area, it's a choice to go to when you want to just chill at a bar. It's been getting really crowded though, so avoid peak times like weekends if you want less of a crowd.
But other than that, good bar food + good drinks = a nice time here.
This place is so awesome! It may not look like much on the outside, but as soon as you walk in and look at the menu, you'll know you'll have a great time and eat super delicious food!
Happy Hour is from 2-7!! But the food and drinks in general are reasonably prices anyway.
Definite must try is the Strawberry Shoju pitcher, nihon steak, furikake garlic chicken and kimchee fried rice. :)
Fantastic atmosphere. Great service. Darts, pool table and karaoke.
When you have children, things change... and people who say this is wrong, well they either don't have children, or they have a full-time live in nanny. And I despise them with a jealous vengeance likened to that of a hurricane. Okay, so maybe I'm over exaggerating but you get my point.
+No longer do you go out til 2 am because you have to get up at 6 am and that's really non-negotiable. Kids gotta eat and will jump on you until you throw cereal at their heads.
+Your bed time slowly inches towards 10 pm, and for me, sometimes 9 pm. Although you'd like to watch that new movie at home, you must contemplate whether or not it's worth it to stay up late past 11 pm. Sorry Bruce Willis, today is not a good day to die hard.
So when we decided to head to Underdogs for a date night with our other parental friends, I'm not going to lie, I was a little worried. People raise eyebrows when you bring children to a bar. Shame on you judgy judgersons! But I remembered that Russ M once told me it would be fine at Underdogs, and what do you know, he was right!
It was a Sunday night at 6 pm and from the outside, Underdogs looks very scary and is definitely not a place you're going to find your next great meal! But inside it's your standard local sports den, but it's still somewhat new so it's decently clean. I had my two year old in tow and my friend had her 1 year old, so it was nice to find a bar which didn't wreak of old cigarette smoke and beer.
What you come to Underdogs for are the following:
+Darts, pool & karaoke ($1 a song)
+$1 off all drinks during happy hour
+$13 for a shoju carafe (Strawberry was my favorite, but you also have the option of mango and lychee)
+Pork chops w/ mushrooms & onions (Thank you Esteban, this was AMAZING!)
+Mac and cheese truffle balls (I didn't really taste the truffle oil, but I love anything mac n' cheese. Just understand it's not real cheese.)
+Furikake chicken (Very tasty and done just right)
We played pool and sang karaoke during our visit from 6-8 pm, and our children loved it! Thankfully the bar wasn't very full so my daughter's sporadic temper tantrums didn't interfere with the good times of fellow patrons.
So my fellow parentals, the lesson here is that life does not have to end after conception. Tt just takes a little more time, planning and imagination to get what you want. Next playdate will be at Underdogs and you are all invited!!!
