I love the coconut mojitos! The drinks are unique and delicious. Urban truly portrays a lounge atmosphere with great music. The bartenders are also enjoyable to conversate with. Only pitfall is you can smell like smoke afterwards but the coconut mojitos trump that by far.

I want to still be a cool kid who doesn't mind smoky environments. I really do. But I just can't pretend. I love the vibe of Urban- dark, lounge-y, warm, inviting, great music, nice bartender. But the SMOKE. Wowza. It's thick. Be prepared to wash everything when you get home- including your handbags, ladies.  Will I brave the wall of smoke to go back again? Most likely- but I'll need to limit my lung exposure and come up with a cleansing plan for the day after.

Probably my new favorite spot in St. Louis.  I met some friends here last Friday and just chilled at the bar side which was awesome.  Why am I a fan of this place? Maybe because of the awesome music? Maybe because of the excellent bartending? Maybe because of just how not cramped the place is? Or maybe it was the people I was with? I think it was a combination of all of those things and this place kind of brought it all together.

Like others have stated, the drinks are pretty cheap and the bartenders do take care of you.  The crowd pretty much keeps to themselves and are there to listen to music, drink, talk and relax.  I think I've found one of the better dive bars in St. Louis and I can't wait to go back.

The Urban is one of those places that you step into and can manage, for however brief a period of time, to forget that the rest of the world exists. The constant music-hum makes sure that you are in your own little world (unless you choose otherwise) from the time you walk in the door.

The drinks are mixed well and they're not overpriced. You can go in and drink enough to get drunk without going, "Crap. I screwed my bank account." I seem to constantly be nursing a hangover the next day though when I leave. I blame it on the "my head is not connected to my body" feeling that I get in there.

It's dark, and it's easy to escape from unwanted conversation if it happens. Usually the conversation is pretty good. There are a lot of hipsters and punks...but the majority of the clientele is above average intelligence and can make for good conversation if you're bored.

Thursday nights are Karaoke - good DJs on the weekends. Occasionally they have a quiet night, although I can't remember when.

Must go sleep now. Can't believe I haven't reviewed them before...*doh*

This place is a small lounge that consists of just two rooms.  One of the rooms has this pretty unique cloth ceiling, so you think you are in a large tent when you are inside.  Pretty neat.    There are couches and coffee table scattered throughout, and it really does give the place an impression of just lounging around your bachelor pad.

On the weekends there are live DJ's that play.  There is no cover.  Drinks are cheap.  Sweet.

So: About the drinks.  The bar is pretty bottom shelf overall.  For a little humor I asked the bartender for a "Medium quality whiskey" and was suggested Seagram's.    What is their lowest then????  (Mark Twain).   They did have a special on a new stout which I have never tried, and that was good - but it was like 1 of 3 beers they had - in a can.

So you may ask, why is this non-pretentious lounge with cheap drinks, couches and a casual atmosphere a 2*?  Well - it's really dingy.  And my standards are pretty low.  I was sitting on one of the couches in the fist room and saw some roaches crawling up on the coffee table.  That was the "Finish your drink and get out of here" sight for me.  The critters didn't seem to be bothered though, just crawling around... uuuugh.

Urban is a great lowkey bar/loungey space.  It's made up of two small rooms.  The main room has the bar, some tables/chairs, and a nice couch.  The second room is where the DJ spins, and there's couches and tables and a small dancefloor space.

The owner/bartender Nhat has won several awards for his unique signature cocktails.  Make sure to ask for a drink menu when you get there.  My favorite drink there is the Sweet Carolina, an amazing concoction of sweet tea vodka, ginger beer, lots of fresh mint, and other stuff.  I could drink this all the time, it is that good.  They also have one called Purple Rain which uses fresh blackberries and is delicious.

The music leans toward non-mainstream electronic/house stuff, but you never know what you'll find.  Sometimes they have a hip-hop DJ accompanied by a live conga drummer.  Other times you might hear indie rock.  Catch it on the right night at the right time (usually later)and there can be a righteous dance party going on, usually on the weekend.

Currently on Monday nights they set up a ping-pong table in the DJ room.  Usually there's a few people there playing, so it's easy to find a game.  Make sure you bring your skills, however.  Those guys are GOOD.  But even if you suck they're nice enough not to rub it in.

Smoking is permitted, so be ready for that.  Usually it is not too crowded, some weekdays can be especially quiet. They are open until 1:30 or so. All in all this is a great little spot.

If you love delicious fresh cocktails in an amazingly chill but full-of personality place, this is for you! The freshly-muddled fruit in their cocktails gives them a unique and delicious touch and they are reasonably priced! However, if you're looking for a Bud Light, this is not the place for you.

The place is always active and is good for groups of friends or would be a sexy place to take a date for a night-cap. The drinks are enough to lure me in, but the music is good too. It is one of the few truly unique bars in St. Louis, in my opinion.

Urban is a hole in the wall lounge that gives me mixed feelings.

Positives: great drinks, prices, bartenders, cool scene and people, and there was cool DJ when we were there. It's also a great location and neighborhood.

Negatives: The places is just 2 rooms with a few tables, a cheap bar, and ratty-old couches. The decorating in the place doesn't exist and the walls are mostly bare. The bar itself was a do-it-yourselfer job with a few cheap racks from Wal Mart the liquor bottles. The couch seems like a great idea for a bar, but it has to be implemented well. They need to be clean  (preferably leather or something that can be cleaned) and not something that sink so far into that you can't reach your drink, get up for another drink, or talk to anyone. The couches sink so low you might as well sit on the floor. As you can imagine, the bathrooms are best avoided. I don't expect much at a bar, but a toilet paper holder is kind a minimum for me.

In all, the good news is that with a little work and little cash, this could be great place.

I'm downgrading Urban a bit because it seemed rough around the edges on a recent visit. It was early in the evening (9:30) and I was looking for something chill and romantic-ish. But they were playing music too loudly for talking and conversation. (The DJ hadn't started yet, music was on CD). The couches are getting dingy. My date and I couldn't get comfortable here so we eased on down the road.

Not the biggest bar I've ever been to but I like that about it.  Dark, sexy, and chill are how I'd best describe Urban.  Don't get me wrong though.  I've been there on a few late nights when the crowd is bat shit crazy and the DJ is spinning like mad.  More often than not though, I'm there between 9pm and 12am and it's a little more laid back.

I do so love a bar with couches.  You always feel like you have won a prize when you're able to land one.  The overall feel of the place is Moroccan without being over the top themey.

OK...enough with the layout.  Let's talk booze.  I have never had a bad drink here.  Ever.  The owner/bartender is a madman mixologist.  And interestingly enough, I have never been served by anyone else but him.  I do so hope the man gets to sleep every once in a while.  Back to booze!  I cannot recommend the Demure enough.  It has muddled strawberries and balsamic vinegar.  I know the balsamic will throw some people off but it totally works here.  I'm not going be able to go through the entire list of everything I've had here but trust me on the Demure.  Go fetch one!

I was here for a birthday party and I definitely plan on returning.  The drink menu was incredible, with drinks like Raspberry Barret, Demure and Purple Rain.  All reasonably priced too!  Plus there was a DJ spinning dub-step.  I have no clue how to describe what that is, but it kept the crowd moving.  Just be careful with the doors (one looks like an entrance, but the real one is actually a couple of doors down).

This is where the night got a bit fuzzy. Drinks just kept coming. First a Demure, something extremely fruity with strawberry chunks. I do not recommend this. Next, a kiwi concoction - Urban's claim to fame. Tasty and strong. Lastly, Opium. I have no idea what was in this drink but it probably put me over the edge. I loved it!

Really dark in here, everyone there was pretty much hammered, and I walked in on a man doing his business. Your typical divey bar.

Coconut mojito.  It's not on the menu - you gotta ask for it.  Each time we go to Urban, it's like we are the only ones there.  Us and the owner.  Which is strange but kind of nice.  I think the place gets going late - like after 10.

Drinks are reasonable priced - competitive with the area.  There is a drink - Purple Rain maybe - that is awesome.  Made with blackberries.  The drinks are like really strong smoothies! (Kidding) You can take comfort in the fact that you are getting your daily requirement of fruits when you partake at Urban.

I find Urban to be kind of strange.  Maybe if I went more often, I would get used to it, to be fair.  I've only gone once or twice.  It was still cold out and there was an issue with heating, which I assume has been resolved.

The front room (with the bar) was really smoky and the other room was super loud.  There was a DJ spinning right next to our table, and the music wasn't that good, but it's not like the same DJ is spinning every night.

The place does make really great drinks, which makes me think I should give it another try on a night that I don't mind going home smelling of smokiness.  I had a drink that had ginger beer in it, and if a bar offers ginger beer, they really can win my heart.  It was simple, with either bourbon or dark rum--I just can't remember.  I believe the name was something a bit ridiculous like "Opium".  One of those names that makes you wish you could just point at it instead of saying "I would like the Opium".

I seriously had no idea how awesome this place was until I was finally dragged there by friends.

It's everything I love in a bar.  They make one of the best martinis I have ever had.  (Try the pommegranite, it's seriously divine).  They have couches for lounging which is great when you are at a place late night and you are a little wiped from the events of the evening, and they are open late, not super super late, but as late as most of the places in the neighborhood, and there's always Mangia for late night anyway.

There's a DJ in back that spins perfect dancing music. Nothing really obnoxious or abrasive either, just things that everyone knows and will enjoy dancing to.  I heard everything from Prince to Britney Spears when I was there....admittedly, I'm not a Britney fan, but when you have had a few martinis...she's got a good beat for dancing to.

I don't think this place has been fully discovered yet, so I hate to spread the word for fear of ruining it, but it's really awesome and should be well known.

A couple of days ago I went to Urban for a friend's birthday. We had been out the entire night and since bars were closing the group tried to think of bars that are open later. One of our partygoers had suggested we go to Urban, so we did.

When we walked inside we noticed that there were couches, which who doesn't love a couch, so as soon as we could we claimed our spot. While some of us were claiming spots, some of us were up as the bar, ordering the next drinks we were going to have. Their drinks are awesome. As previous people have stated, top notch. Anyways, they know how to make a mean martini.

With drinks in hand some of us made our way back to the back room where they had a live DJ going on. There we danced or attempted to dance to a range of music from the top 40 to the retro 80's.

Urban is an awesome bar that everyone should head to at some point in their life.

This place is nice and cozy, and they really know how to pour a good drink.   It's quite a step up from your local dive, but without the pretense.  While the decor is nice, with couches in both the back and front rooms, the drinks are top notch.  There's also DJ's in the back room on the backend of the week, with the rotation changing up all the time, and no cover!  If there's one complaint, it's that they close too early.

When you go there, remember these two Words:  Coconut Mojito

    a bar.....on south grand!  *gasp*
I like the moraccan feel of the backroom.   The frontroom (at least while I was there) seems to be kind of a "Cheer's" scenerio.  Everyone knew everyone.  I think this place could easily become very popular.
