good vegan food! it's so nice to come to a thai place knowing its all vegan and you don't have to ask about the fish sauce, etc. and they have braggs at every table. yum! and they have veggie burgers with veganaise! i would recommend the thai food though. the curries are great, soy chicken is delicious and chow mein is good, too!
Review Source:This is our new go-to restaurant for vegan delivery (Fullerton branch). Â So happy that I'm in the delivery area. Â Absolutely delicious. Â Everything we've tried has been excellent. Â For starters I especially like the freshly rolls--Thai spaghetti, soy chicken, romaine lettuce, bean sprouts, and fresh herbs, wrapped with rice paper, served with hoisin sauce and chili paste on the side; grilled veggie dumplings stuffed with vegetables; larb chicken with selected soy beat tossed in lime juice chili, red onion, carrot, parched rice on a bed of lettuce. Â These dishes were all superbly spiced and freshly prepared. Â For main courses I've had the Chinese broccoli in garlic sauce, spicy eggplant with onion, garlic, sweet basil and bell pepper sauteed with chili paste and green curry--medium spicy green chili paste with coconut milk, basil, bell pepper, eggplant, bamboo shoots, spices and herbs. Everything was fresh and nicely spiced. Â I will specify extra spicy on the green curry when I order again as it was too mild for my taste. Â The only thing I've had there that I am not crazy about is the chicken satay--charbroiled marinated bay chicken on skewer, served with peanut sauce and fresh cucumber salad. Â Those who miss meat will probably love this dish. Â I'm not that crazy about fake meats--though the fake chicken in the larb and green curry dishes work. Â The peanut sauce is what makes this dish anyway, and that was very good. Â You won't be disappointed. Â Both times they estimated 60-75 minutes for delivery and it arrived in less than an hour.
Review Source:You can't get better Thai food than this!
I came in for dinner and although this place looks super tiny from the outside, it is pretty spacious once you get in. Â Plenty of tables but not too many tables for it to feel to crowded or cramped. The people who work here are super friendly and very attentive - always checking on you and making sure you have enough water, etc. Â Lovely people!
I got the dinner combo which was a choice of an entree, steamed brown rice, a salad, and fried spring rolls. Â Also you get a complimentary miso soup as soon as you sit down which I loved. Â I got the green curry with the soy chicken as my entree choice. Â Absolutely LOVED it! I told the waitress that I wanted it as hot as she could make it - and when I said hot, I specified that I wanted it 'Thai hot.' This lady definitely listened, which was great! Â The curry was so flavorful with red and green bell peppers, fresh eggplant, and the soy chicken really did taste like chicken! I was also OBSESSED with the fried spring rolls. Â I have never had spring rolls this good anywhere else. Â Although they were fried, they somehow made them light also, all at the same time! Â The brown rice was so delicious and perfectly steamed. Â I have never had a brown rice this dark before, I assume its super good for you! Loved it!
I will definitely be back again soon! If you haven't gone, go NOW! They also have dirt cheap lunch combo specials for $10!
This place is just the best. I order from here once a week since it opened and have never been disappointed! The soy pepper steak with broccoli is my usual. I also love the spring roll appetizer. Everything is fresh and on the healthier side, with sprouted brown rice and lots of veggies. I wish all Thai food was this good.
Review Source:I went to the location on Montrose about a year ago, but since they didn't deliver to my neighborhood, they fell off my radar. Then I found out about the second location AND that Eat24 will deliver to me. Well...that changes everything! There is such freedom to know you can order anything on the menu without having to worry about what's vegan and what might be hiding eggs or fish sauce. Even better when it's SO delicious. And it arrived very fast. I'll be ordering from here a LOT from now on.
Review Source:I love it when I can order anything off a menu without having to ask "Is this vegan" or "Can this be made vegan"! Urban Vegan is definitely one of the go-to places when I crave thai food!
We walked in for lunch and were super hungry so we directly ordered the entrees! We ordered the Orange chicken - which was served with brown rice, and the yellow curry  lunch special - which comes with 2 spring rolls, rice, salad and yellow curry. The orange chicken was an absolute winner - it was crispy with a fresh tangy orange flavor - and the yellow curry was super delicious! The spring rolls were really good too - and I was tempted to order a plate of that separately! The sauce they serve with the spring rolls is amazing!
The place itself is not very big. The service is good and fast. They serve complimentary hot soup as you arrive which can be soooo good in this cold weather!
Would I go there again? Absolutely!
Order online from here all the time. Â Two-three times a week. Â It is not authentic Thai food though certainly has some authentic and great flavors. Â Consisently super-fresh - even in winter. Â
Never eaten in the place.
Nothing has been bad - and all of the faux-mean options have been tasty.
Love it.
I wandered in here on a whim on a long walk on my way back to the south side. Â Super small, cozy and cute. Â Though I dined alone, this was definitely a great first date place as pretty much ninety percent of the people there felt like they were on their first date. Â I had the red curry dinner with faux chicken accompanied with a miso soup. Â Very comforting thai food with a vegan slant that doesn't seem too forced in both dining and in ambient conversation.
Review Source:Simply put - this food is delicious! Â I'm very excited to have found a restaurant that specializes in all vegan dishes and masters it. Â Pad Thai with soy pepper steak, orange soy chicken, egg rolls - this restaurant offers a variety of Thai delights with a multitude of protein options, all of which I'm looking forward to trying.
Review Source:Wonderful!
This place is tiny, and the ambiance on the inside is not the most romantic, but it gets the job done.
Almost as soon as we sat down we were served some yummy tofu soup. The server was friendly and knowledgable about the menu. I liked that they had regular soy sauce and low-sodium super healthy amino soy sauce.
Their menu is pretty extensive, they even have more "Americanized" food such as wraps and burgers (with fries). The soy bacon wrap seemed intriguing!
I got the Pad Thai dinner combo with the soy pepper steak ($11.95). It was so good! The (fake) steak melted in my mouth, and tasted so close to real steak. Their secret sauce was so tasty. The portion was huge, definitely enough for two meals. The dinner combo came with two little egg rolls (both tasty), and a side salad (which had some phenomenal white creamy dressing on the side...I wish they sold it by the bottle!)
I was told by the table next to me that the soy orange chicken and soy chicken nuggets are the best, so I will be back soon to munch on those!
YUM!
Thai and vegan seems to be a divine combination that this place has mastered. Every single thing I tasted here was super flavorful. Its a small place and if you call ahead, the food will be ready for take out in 20 mins. The spring rolls are crispy and comes with sweet sauce. The salad is brought to life with a great zingy vinaigrette. I got to share ginger tofu and red curry with my husband. Both were amazing and tasted great with brown rice. The portion size though seemed small initially was perfect when I was done with the meal. Can't wait to try more dishes soon!
We tried Urban Vegan twice - first at its Lakeview location, then at the Lincoln Park location. What amazing food! Thai restaurants are usually a good bet for vegetarians, but you usually have to watch out for meat or fish in the sauces, which is why it's so great that this place is ALL VEGAN! Â Plus, it's a refreshing treat to have such a variety of proteins to put in the dishes. Most places just offer you tofu and that's it.
First time I ate here we got the PET (pumpkin eggplant and tofu), plus a noodle dish. There wasn't a lot of pumpkin in the dish, but the novelty of having pumpkin (or maybe it was actually squash) in thai food was well worth it. Second time we ordered Pad Thai and one of their specialties - Shrimp Spinach Noodle. It's been decades since my pre-vegetarian life where I ate real shrimp, so I don't remember shrimp well enough to know if this was a good facsimile, but it was great to have something different on my plate. I love tofu, but I can't wait to come back here and try some of their other fake meats.
This new location is quite small, much like the Montrose location, but the food was pretty good. I ordered the yellow curry with seitan and was quite pleased with the flavoring although they didn't make it as spicy as I had asked. I didn't much care for the "freshy rolls", but everything else was good. I'll certainly go back.
Review Source:OMG!!! Â It is always a chore when I order Asian cuisine as I end up asking (what I'm sure seems to the person taking my order) as a million questions. Â Is there fish sauce in that dish? Â Do you use pork in the Ma Po Tofu sauce? Â Does no meat just mean no chunks? Â Well, I have found my solution that is delicious, delivers and is vegan!!! Â First time there I ordered about ten different things (to be consumed over the course of the week) and I can tell you the leftovers were just as delicious and devoured by a non-veg friend with gusto. Â I recommend the lunch or dinner combos. Â They are a great deal! Â Also their banana / dark chocolate dessert is delicious!! Â I am ready to go back now!
Review Source:this popped up in my old neighborhood so we checked it out for lunch one day.
Very reasonably priced food, and all sorts of people in the place.
The soy chicken was excellent, and the lunch special is $9.95 and comes with 2 mini egg rolls and kind of a small salad but it is a perfect portion.
I had the basil noodles, spicy with the soy chicken.
They deliver all the way to Kedzie so I will order from them for delivery soon!
I liked the food, great variety of tastes.
However both times when I went I got real strong food reactions, bloating, heavy stomach, tiredness, dizziness. Very unusual the intensity. So I am wondering what is in the food that could cause this, MSG maybe? My friends had the stong bloated feeling as well. What a pitty. Would be a nice place go go but the price is too high to pay.
As I took my first bite, many flavors entered my mouth and it had instantly become the best Spicy Noodles I've ever consumed. From the mix of sweet flavor to strong spiciness, I couldn't decide which sensation I enjoyed the most. The level of spiciness excited every taste bud. Urban Vegan has definitely been the best I've had.
Review Source:I've waited for this restaurant to open for months since I've seen its sign every day along my daily work commute. I took my meat-loving boyfriend here this past weekend and BOTH of us were very satisfied with the food and experience!
The owner, Oat, is very gracious and sweet. We were the only customers in the restaurant, and we were treated very well. She brought out the food very quickly, and she was very accommodating and never too intrusive. I love her!
For a vegan restaurant, the food is really good. For a Thai restaurant, the food is still really good! I am Thai, and Urban Vegan's Thai food is much better than most Thai restaurants I've been to in the entire city. We had their Larb Chicken appetizer, which I requested extra spicy. I was in tears! They did not hold back on the spiciness. My boyfriend, of course, could handle the level of heat, but it was very delicious. I hadn't had Larb Chicken in forever (since it is a meat dish that can't be made vegetarian). Urban Vegan is the only restaurant in Chicago that I know of that has this dish, and it tastes very authentic. The freshy rolls were huge as burritos and tasted good. They are similar to the spring rolls you find on Argyle. I had the Orange Chicken (yes, I am aware it isn't a Thai dish, but where else asides from Yummy Yummy Asian Cuisine can I find this dish?) and David had the Yellow Curry with seitan. Both were excellent, but the Yellow Curry was absolutely delicious. The entrees came with brown rice, which I didn't mind. My boyfriend prefers white rice.
The only complaint we have about the restaurant was the Thai iced tea. My boyfriend thought it had a weird taste. Other than that, Urban Vegan earns five stars across the board for me. Five stars for the food. Five stars for the service. We also found free parking in a residential neighborhood across the street. Urban Vegan even had both lunch and dinner specials for the budget-conscious.
I recommend Urban Vegan for vegans AND non-vegans alike. Omnivores will appreciate the fact that there are absolutely no vegan paraphernalia of any sort. I, being a regular vegetarian, greatly appreciate this too. Urban Vegan is a quaint family-run restaurant where you come to get fantastic vegan Thai and Asian food. The Thai flavors are very authentic. I will definitely be coming back!
My girlfriend and I have ordered delivery from here twice in the past week or so. It is that good. I'm a vegetarian and hesitant of fake meats because the texture usually freaks me out, or it tastes awful. I don't know what Urban Vegan does, but the faux meat here is delicious. The curry is outstanding and it's nice to not have a stomach ache afterwards from fish sauce. The lunch specials are a great deal, lots of food for a reasonable price. Delivery has been quick and the driver friendly. I sense an unhealthy relationship with this place forming and I think I'm okay with it.
Review Source:I work near Fullerton and Ashland, and this area is in desperate need of some sort of healthyish dining option. I've been twice since they opened and the food is great and plentiful. The $8 lunch special gets you an an entree, brown rice, two mini veggie egg rolls, a small salad with peanut dressing, and miso soup. My only complaint is that the space is really bizarre - I was here a few times before when it was a Chinese restaurant, and there's really no good way to make it feel comfortable and homey. There are only about 10 tables and they're all pretty close together.
Review Source:This is by far the best vegan restaurant in Chicago, for me! I have an asian taste and love Thai food. Their style of food is just that! I've been to both the Fullerton and Montrose ones and their food quality is consistent! Among all the dishes I liked, I think the green curry is my personal favorite. But trust me, you wont be disappointed with any dish you order.
Review Source:I'd been wanting to try the original Urban Vegan on Montrose, but hadn't gotten around to it. When I heard they opened up a new spot a bit closer to me, I got excited (good Thai food is seriously lacking in Logan Square/Bucktown) and took the opportunity to get some take-out.
This first time I was boring, but just wanted a simple pad thai with soy chicken. After years of only ever ordering Thai food with tofu (and worrying that they wouldn't keep the fish/oyster sauce out), this was a nice change. I got the lunch combo, which came with a little salad (w/ a delicious dressing) and the best egg rolls (eggless, of course) that I have ever had. Warning, they are thinner than your typical egg roll, but well worth it.
Next time I'll try something more interesting, like one of the mock-fish dishes (the sweet chili fish sounds too good). But I was overall very happy with my experience (the employees were friendly too).
