Went to Ports O Call and were amazed to realize that they don't have a lot of REAL restaurants down there... this IS a restaurant - meaning that someone takes your order, brings your food out to you and then brings you a bill.
That is the main reason that this place got our business.
I think that maybe if I was a guy (with a bunch of other guys), or if I was starving, or if I wanted beers mostly with maybe a little something on the side, or maybe if I ate meat I may have liked this place more... But I didn't like it here at all.
Beware my vegetarian friends - there are NO garden burgers here (and the menu is made up mostly of burgers).
I ended up with an egg salad sandwich with a side of fries (they come separately - like someone would order a sandwich and NOT want fries.... I don't know) and my daughter got a cheese sammie with fries off the kids' menu. The kids menu is actually a pretty good deal - comes with a main entree, fries, and a drink for about $6.
My egg salad sandwich was a joke - I asked for the bread toasted and they toasted it and put butter on BOTH sides; It looked like I got a scoop of egg salad and that was it - I didn't even have to eat anywhere near the crust because there was nothing there - one ice cream sized scoop in the middle and they were done... And the egg salad itself tasted like they boiled eggs, cut them up, and then maybe, maybe, maybe (!) put a TINY bit of mayo in it to hold it together.
Oh, and based on what I had, you probably shouldn't bother with the "world famous" fries...They came dried out in the middle (maybe cooked twice?? I don't know), but if their fries are what made them famous, I am shocked their place has been opened so long.
After leaving here, we walked by another restaurant that is at the far end of the "ports o call", close to the boats. It was a little more expensive, but I would not go into this place again if I came down here to eat. I don't know if all the good reviews are because this place has some SP History or if I was just there on an off day....
Simple menu and food, but what a cool place. Â Been there for all time and tons of old pics and "things" hanging from the walls. Â
Had a big nasty burger with avocado and loved it. Â Fries where soggy and not great but are hand cut on premises. Â
Great ladies working there and just a place with tons of character.
