One of my local haunts. Most of the patrons are regulars, but newbies are always welcomed. They have above average bar food, and really good daily specials. Good reliable service, most of the staff has been there for years. It's a great place for libations and conversation with the eclectic crowd. If you are NOT a Cheesehead, stay away on Sunday's during football season. :-)
Review Source:I figured I would come back and update this. Â They've done a lot of work to the place and plan on doing more. Â The food has gotten even better, and the drinks are still a decent pour at a decent price. Â The crowd is even starting to skew younger. Â I still highly recommend this place.
On a side note, the waitress issues I had in my first review have been completely resolved. Â At Vernon's, you will only find the greatest most attentive servers anywhere.
And, I'll say it again, you may not be expecting it when you walk in, but the food, especially the burgers, are slap-yo-momma good.
You can tell the bar has been there a very long time.
It's a packers bar, its very smokey and has a cheers like atmosphere.
It's apparent that the place is full of regulars. With that being said, I still get pretty good service. Little bit older crowd without drama. Good old neighborhood dive bar. Not a big party, very low key, and looks to have a very steady costumer base. Â
If I was a Packers fan this place would be heaven. I'm not but I don't anything bad to say about the place.
I've been going to Vernon's for over 20 years and the food is always great! Â All the food is made from scratch and isn't the frozen then baked/fried type. Â The drinks are great and the Bartenders/Waitstaff are very attentive. Â Great place to chill and relax. Â It is a smoking bar but unless it's crowded, the vent system cleans the air pretty good.
I love the burgers and steak finger basket the most.
If you are from Wisconsin or have lived there at some point your life, but now find yourself in Dallas, two words for you..."Welcome Home!"
Packer Bar and total dive bar, but a classy one. Tv's everywhere, great, friendly and fast service! Even if you don't drink alcohol it doesn't matter, they will keep your water glass full at all times. Good food, game days they always have brat specials and if you find yourself going through a cheese withdrawl but being out of Wisco, don't worry they have fried cheese curds!
Don't expect to show up as the Packer game is starting and get a seat at the bar, this place is shoulder to shoulder with green and gold wearing cheese heads! I love it!
I don't know what it is like on days other than game days, I'm sure it is more mellow and low key like regular dive bars. I always try to come down and watch the Packer games here. The crowd is great and they have cheers for when the Pack gets a first down, touch downs and when the other team does something shady..."They don't cheat because they suck, they suck because THEY CHEAT!" The whole bars yells these throughout the game, it's pretty great. Come and drink, eat, yell at the screens until your little heart desires and be content in a wonderful little slice of Packerland right here in Dallas!
Vernon's Grille is THE GB Packers hang out in Dallas. I know that a lot of reviews on here said it's smokey. Not on football Sunday. The patrons are nice and go outside to smoke so we can all enjoy the game. While the brats and cheese curds aren't from Wisconsin they did a decent job of making them yummy. The wait staff and owner are very hospitable and helpful. We didn't wait long for drinks or food even with the packed house. Get there early, I hear they have a great breakfast from some of the fans who staked their booth at 10am for the noon kick off. I highly recommend you try them out! We are definitely going back and I hear patio plans are in the works!
Review Source:This is my favorite little dive bar in Addison thus far. Â It's tucked into a corner of a strip mall. I am not really a Cowboys fan at all, so it's a great place to come if you don't want to hang in a place with the overzealous fans....this is a Green Bay Packers place. Â So if you're a transplant, and the Packers are your team, this is your little slice of home.
They have this thing you must order, Chickles and Pips....fried pickles and potato chips. Â It's the perfect drunk food. Â I also adore their sliders. Â
The place is small, but not so small that they don't have a pool table and dart board in the back, and this is definitely my go-to place for a quiet game of darts and pool with friends.
They also have Buzztime Trivia AND I AM SO ABOUT THAT. Â The only problem is that if you wanna sit in the booths, it's almost impossible to read the TVs over the bar so you can participate.
Vernon's is a great hole-in-the-wall bar with good food, but we had to stop going in there because of the SMOKE. I've gotten used to clean air, I don't miss hacking up the remnants of last night's social activities the next morning. Addison should have gone non-smoking years ago. Stay out of there on Sunday unless you're a Packer's fan.
Review Source:Sort of a dive bar, but the drinks are strong and the drinks are cheap. Â Nothing particularly special, but its a place you can plop your butt down on a stool or chair and have a conversation with your buddies and catch the game. If you ever missed walking out of a bar smelling like you rolled around in ash, this is your place. Don't expect your fancy uptown bar (or crowd), just grab a drink, shut up, and bask in the glory that is Vernon's.
Review Source:One of the bad things about any bar in Addison is having to deal with the smoke. Due to the size and lack of ventilation, Vernon's takes a big hit here. I hate to knock it down to 3 stars because of the smoke, so I'm going to grant a 1 star pass. Â Vernon's shines with their food. They host some of the best if not the best bar food in Addison. Service is usually good. Â Warning, if you come here during a Packer game, expect it to be jam packed with cheeseheads. Â I'd like to see Vernon's move to a bigger more ventilated building or hopefully legislation will pass soon enough and the City of Addison will have to join the rest of the US in banning smoking in bars. As I believe this is the only thing holding this fantastic place back. Â Again, I was very tempted to give Vernon's 3 stars due to the smoke...its pretty bad. But the food and drinks are great.
Review Source:I've grown very fond of Vernon's grill. It's laid back atmosphere, quaint location, daily specials and of course the food is what drives me back over and over again. Â In this day an age, it's tough to find an honest, home cooked meal. Â They have daily specials, which are just that. Â Daily. Â Since everything is homemade, they do run out of the good stuff lunch specials from to time. Especially Potpie. Â That is served every other Wednesday and it took me two months of trying to finally get some. Â It was worth it. Â
They have drink specials for you and it is a smoking place. Â So when it's busy, it can get a little smelly. Â Although the food itself, makes it worth walking out like you smoked a pack of ciggs. Â In the AM, you will see more of the older crowd (no smoke). Â Older like my mom (and Luby's) type. Â They know good food and value when they see it. Â You can stop in for lunch or dinner, come in your suit or in stank gym clothes. Â The servers are always pleasant and very sweet. Â If you are in a hurry, order to-go. Â But if not, sit and hang out for a bit. Â
The evening can get packed, especially f there is a game on (Packers Hideout). Â On some game days, they will make special finger foods you can't order, like cheese balls
.
No matter what you order, you will be satisfied (except for fried chicken). Â Sandwiches, burgers, wings, steak, catfish...salad...they even make their own damn ranch. Â I eat it by the finger full. Â And the deserts are just as divine.
I recommend getting gravy on the side, because in some of the dishes (pot roast, CF steak), it can be much.
Lunch Specials (which ALL are so so so so freaking delish)
MONDAY          Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potato, Green Beans
TUESDAY          Chicken Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Corn
WEDNESDAY       Meatloaf, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans
THURSDAY         Pot Roast, Mashed Potatoes, Carrots
FRIDAY            Fried Catfish, French Fries, Hushpuppies, Coleslaw
****MAKE SURE YOU TAKE A PIC WITH THE SIGN OUT FRONT WHEN YOU LEAVE!
I have been going to Vernon's for a while, usually late night for a few cocktails. They have some great late-night munchies that are 1/2 priced after 10 pm. Since moving to Dallas I kept hearing about their elusive Chicken Pot Pie, which they only serve on Wednesday. I finally had the chance to try it. My goodness, was it everything I had heard about and more. It was absolutely the best pot pie I have ever had. AND it came with a nice salad for $7.95....can you ask for anything more. The service is always great here...my only complaint is the smoking. I don't mind a smoky bar, hell, I actually prefer a smoky bar...but this place is like an OTB in the 1950's! I will go again..and you should too! I will also recomment the Honey wing things..they are super!
Review Source:You have to burn your clothes when you leave Vernon's but it its a really great hole-in-the-wall. Â The Happy Hour complimentary food is great, the waitresses, even if frazzled, are super nice, and the drinks get stronger as the night goes on. Â The food is pretty decent- Zingers, spicy wings, Â Idaho Nachos, pot roast sliders, chicken nachos, and salads are all good and they even have a pretty decent dessert selection! Â Daily lunch specials sometimes run into the night.
Warning- Cowboys fans, don't go when Green Bay is playing unless you want to argue with old, loyal cheeseheads! They are serious about their love for green & gold!
Also love the fact that they have Buzz Time trivia!
Also after 11:00 pm most appetizers are 1/2 priced, a great late night stop for a few last drinks and a full belly!
All I have to say is, if you are a Green Bay Packers fan head to Vernon's because it is Packers heaven. Must be nice to have such a big out-of-state fan base, because my poor Miami Dolphins don't! :(
So aside from having a ridiculous amount of Packers fans, it's a pretty neat hole-in-the-wall sports bar. They have enough TVs (and the NFL ticket) to make any fan happy (unless of course you want to hear your game during a Packers game, which won't happen).
Service is...mediocre. Now, when I was there, the place was jam packed and there was only one bartender and I was sitting at the bar. Bless his heart, he seemed overwhelmed! I'm not sure if this is always the case, but if it is, prepare to be patient. We had to ask multiple times for our pitcher. They also ran out of pint glasses, so whatever glass was available they were using. I guess that's the sign of a good business!
The only food I tried were the fried pickles and homemade potato chips, which I was super happy with. They weren't too greasy or heavy and they tasted great. Others around me ordered all sorts of things off the menu, burgers, sliders, wings. It all looked good and everyone seemed to enjoy it, but unfortunately I don't know this firsthand.
Because this place isn't close to me, I probably wouldn't go again. I went with a purpose...my Packers fan friend wanted to watch the game. That said, if you are a Packers fan or are nearby and want a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere, with a chill, older crowd (probably average 35+, at least that is what it was when I was there), then stop on in. If it was closer to my house, I probably would stop in one day for a beer and a burger. It seems like mostly regulars and a lot of people know each other, which is nice. And everyone was really nice to us "newbies" when we were there, which makes for a welcoming and comfortable experience!
Bar service is horrible but waitresses are great at night! Drinks are priced real well and always poured stout!
Places smells like someone wakes up and takes a shit in the middle of the place everyday and microwaves it to get the perfect smell... You would think they would fix that nasty smell...
I put up with the smell though for their food!!! It's amazing! The chicken fried steak, the Italian quesadillas, the sliders! All of it is good! Great now I'm hungry!
At first glance, I didnt think much of the place...but whoa was I wrong! It is tucked away in a shopping center corner, but inside was a bustling small friendly bar n dining, a great local hang out spot and low key. Food was delish!!! At cheap price! Very much homestyle, we had cajun grill chicken sandwich and buffalo wings! Great amount of food AND the bun on the sandwich was toasted and crunchy! Oooo yum! :)
Give it a try! Plus cheap drinks!
Vernon's is one of my favorite spots for lunch. Â They have one of the best hamburgers in Dallas, and their daily specials are always good as well. Â I tried their meatloaf special lately, which was very good. Â I don't smoke, but I don't mind the smokers there. Â I love how it is tucked in the corner of the shopping center, so you have to really be looking for it to see it. Â I find myself wondering where all the people come from who go there to eat or to have a midday cocktail (I'm not telling who).
Review Source:I've been coming to this bar for years. I typically end up here on my birthday because I can actually chill with my friends and hear what they say. Most of the wait staff is awesome and friendly and the food is always good for cheap eats to soak up some of that alcohol. Plus they have pool and darts in the back if you're feelin' fiesty!
Review Source:I've been coming here for almost 20 yrs so I'm gonna do the right thing and make sure everyone knows how good the food is here. Â This is a back to basics bar that does allow smoking - when was the last time you remember seeing ashtrays on the tables? Â But it's not too crowded during the lunch hour so you should be able to maneuver a table or booth towards the back of the dining area if you are really put off by smoke - never really too bad during the day. Â Getting back to the food, I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here - chicken fried steak, club sandwiches, etc. Â Today was a burger - a hand formed patty and the bun was buttered and grilled... doesn't get much better than that. Â The waitstaff is super friendly and the crowd is way laid back. Â Call ahead for the daily specials.
Review Source:Delicious! We went here last night around 11:30 and were delighted to discover half priced appetizers 11pm-2am. I was craving some fried pickles, so we got the "Chickles and Pips" which are fried pickle slices and homemade chips. So deliciously greasy, but the pickles were sliced too thin for my taste. We also tried the sliders and they were delicious with a side of au jus for dipping. And they had a special for pitchers ($8 for Miller Light) I hate the term "dive bar" for this place, it feels much more like a sports bar to me. There are lots of TV's, a pool table in the back, some video games, and a dart board. Vernon's is great but I'm afraid I have to dock a star because of the pickles, they just weren't up to par.
Review Source:I checked out Vernon's today to try the 'highly raved about' pot pie. It is only available on Wednesdays, and seeing how many were being served, you would want to get there early to try it because they regularly sell out. The pot pie was huge! I can easily make 2-3 meals out of this. The flavor is good, but it isn't the best I've ever had. It is a HUGE step up from the Boston Market pot pie and the Norma's pot pie (only available on Fridays). The Vernon's pie has lots of meat and veggies with a creamy sauce. The salad that precedes it is OK, but standard for what you would expect at a bar.
Vernon's is not the place to go if you are recovering from a sinus infection. It is a smoker's delight, and there is no where in the restaurant to escape the smoke. I detest cigarette smoke and have become spoiled by so many smoke free restaurants. The smoke will keep me from ever returning here. They could have the best cuisine and drink prices in the universe, but it is not worth putting up with cigarette smoke.
Vernon's is definitely a 'guy's bar' with lots of sports stuff and TV's everywhere. It is small, and has a neighborhood bar appeal. The waitstaff consist older ladies who call you honey...I like that! It is a nice place with decent food, but not my bag so I won't be back.
For the little neighborhood bar, Vernon's is hard to beat. Â The beer is good and cold and the burgers are great! Â I haven't ventured outside of the burger here, but the menu does have a good bit of variety. Â I have dined with some here who say the pulled pork sliders are awesome. Â This is definitely a place worth checking out!
Review Source:After partying downtown and drinking across the street at Flying Saucer, Vernon's was a pretty good spot to help end the night.
Friends and new friend sat in a booth, had beers, and some awesome food. I think on Wednesday nights after 11PM the finger food menu was  HALF OFF! I need to start a cheap eats list and put this place on it. I got out of here spending less than $15 on beers and food and left full!.
The sliders came with an au jus dipping sauce which made those sliders even more flavorful. I also got an order of the fried chips and pickles. The chips were on the greasy side, but who doesn't mind a little grease here and there. I think I might like their fried pickles the best. Compared to Pluckers and Razoo's (the only places where I tried fried pickles) theirs was thinly sliced, lightly battered and I don't think that they used any corn meal in it. Â
As for the crowd... Well, for a Wednesday night it didn't seem to be that busy and from reading the other reviews I didn't really notice the "older crowd". Why discriminate? Beer and good food should be had by all!
Our server Hillary was quite nice and attentive.
I used to go to this bar all the time when I lived in Addison. We would usually start and end the night here. Its an older crowd for the most part. There are plenty of regulars and I had an awesome time hanging out there. Their grilled chicken sandwiches are sooo good. There is a busser there named Sunovio (sp?), and if you ask for Sunovio's nachos he will make the best nachos ever for you. Its not on the menu and he is the only one that makes these. By the time we would end the night here around 1, Vernons was usually packed. This is a great bar if you  feel like you want to take a break from hanging out with the bros at Logans. If you like Vernons, you will also probably like Al's Hideaway on the other side of Preston. Its the same small, homey-type bar feel.
Review Source:Vernon's is a 25 year old family owned hole in the wall sport's bar. Â However, unlike the ultra-bright obnoxious places, it's an old school wood paneld dark bar. Â There are booths up top, an open area with smaller tables with rolling chairs and high-tops, and then the bar. Â The new flat screen TV's are visible everywhere, and they have two projector screen playing whatever the big game is at the time.
The wait staff is always friendly and efficient - Rose, Vanda, and Hillary are great!
The food is good as well - the chicken pot pie is indeed the best! Â And so is the chef's salad, pork roast sliders, and taco fingers. Â
Plus, they have bar games like trivia and poker.
When you think Addison, quaint little neighborhood bars don't automatically come to mind. However, after driving around for awhile and trying to find some place to eat we discovered Vernon's tucked away in the corner of the restaurant filled strip mall on the southeastern corner of Belt Line and Monfort. How awesome to find a relaxed place to hang and catch a bite and a brew!
Sadly, I can't agree with the stellar reviews that share this space with me. My visit sucked some serious Dr. Manhattan giant blue dong. It was a Friday night but after 9pm and most of the conference tournament games had ended, meaning Vernon's was not really full not exceptionally busy. Why it took  us five minutes of standing up front to be told to grab a seat anywhere was beyond us. Why "anywhere" means an open table where you will never see a server escapes me.
I can't comment on the food because no one ever came by to take our order. Heck, I never even saw a server the whole time. I guess they could have been standing behind the two women who were smoking more than a four-alarm fire. Seriously, I'm not smoke-conscious but hell the two of them alone are probably keeping Philip Morris in business by themselves.
I'm sure this might be a great place to watch a Packers game (although I'm surprised they don't carry a Wisconsin brew like Spotted Cow) but if actually want to eat and catch Binghamton advance to the Big Dance for the first time you might be better off grabbing a Slim Jim and a 40 and pulling up a 13 inch black and white TV instead
I've reviewed all of Vernon's plus points before (of which there are many), so this review is just for the Wednesday lunch special.....Chicken Pot Pie. Â AWESOME! Â I've not had it before, because everytime I've gone for a late lunch on a Wednesday, they are out of this special, which apparently happens every week. Â Today, I called at 1100 and asked them to save one for me, and they did.
First, the huge portion. Â Imagine the size of a Swanson Pot Pie from the freezer at your local grocery, this one is 2.5 times larger. Â HUGE !!
Next, the crust; flakey, buttery, just like your grandmamma used to make. Â Melts in your mouth. Â
Next, the filling.... large chunks of moist white meat chicken, peas, carrots, onions, and the creamy sauce. Â Taste buds Heaven! Â All it needed to please my palate was pepper. Â Easily solved. Â I ate one third of it, brought home the rest; will freeze another third, and have the other third tomorrow for lunch. Â Also comes with a salad, which I also brought home untouched.
All this, 3 meals for my appetite, for $6.95. Â How can that be beat?
So, if you North Dallas or Addison lunchers want a really great Pot Pie, either go really early, or call ahead and reserve your meal. Â They are glad to do that for you. Â 972-661-3707. Â Tummy is satisfied for another 14 hours!
Off now to watch the depressing news ! Â UGH !!! Â Maybe I should switch to the Disney Channel instead.
Here's the deal. Â I moved to the Addison area about two years ago. Â I needed a local watering hole, I happened to stumble on Vernon's and have been a regular ever since. Â
This is the perfect anti-Addison bar. Â Everything is low profile from the appearance to wait-staff. Â They have some of the strongest drinks in Dallas and also some of the best food. Â It is usually never crowded, except during happy hour ( Bring your senior citizen card, older crowd). Â It turns into mainly a service industry bar after about midnight. Â They always have great music and did i mention that the drinks are strong.
Overall I would recommend Vernon's to anyone looking for a low key bar, with strong drinks and good friends. If you stop in I'll be the one sitting near the service well, with the glass of whiskey!!
If you are looking for some good home cooking then check this place out! Â Like the other reviewers said, this place is totally casual and fun and the service is always great. Â It is smoky, but if you can get past that give it a chance.
It is a Green Bay Packers bar, so it gets crowded on days when they are playing. Â There is a pool table, Golden Tee, darts, tons of tv with sports on and Buzztime trivia to keep you occupied.
Check out the chicken pot pie on Wednesday- it is pretty special.
A fun place to go with friends. Drinks are always good as is the bar food and service. Not too crowded, with the easiest parking ever! We have NEVER had to wait for a table. Don't expect to go home not smelling like smoke though, it gets very smokey. A fun little hole in the wall bar.
Review Source:Vernon's is small, but it's a great place to go with a group, especially if you enjoy less-crowded bars where you can actually hear yourself and others talk. They have good food, good drinks, and friendly staff. The pool area is small but uncrowded, and the atmosphere is very easy-going and relaxed.
