Ok, so we were rushing to get to the airport, and the wife was in the mood for Waffle House, so we decided to stop here. We probably had about half an hour on our hands before we had to rush to catch our plane back home.
Our order was taken immediately after being seated. The waitress was very nice and understood that we were in a rush. Our food probably came within 5 minutes after we placed our order.
I've never been to a Waffle House before, so I wasn't sure what to expect of the food. But I guess this was the place to come if you want waffles. I ordered a raspberry waffle, grilled cheese sandwich and hashbrown, and I'd have to say, all three were excellent, and way better than I expected. The grilled cheese sandwich was awesome, and they really do have the best hashbrowns (like they advertise).
We were out of there in about 30 minutes, right in time to catch our flight.
Ahh Waffle House, how I missed you whilst living in the western US. I am amazed to say that it has been more than 15 years since I've been to a Waffle House. Often, when one goes back to things one enjoyed in their youth, one is disappointed. This was not one of those times. It was actually better than I remembered. The wife and I each had breakfast sandwiches (she went with sausage, I went with the ham) and they were awesome. And it seems that, in the 15 years, I've been away, they have added some new hash brown options. I only remembered smothered and covered. Now they have all kinds of stuff. She went with the all the way (onions, peppers, chili, cheese, gravy and some other stuff I forget) I had jalapenos, cheese, and onions. Awesome. Great coffee too.
Excellent service in this spot as well. There was a huge line, but they worked through it quickly and efficiently. Food came promptly, and our waitress never let our coffee run dry. In fact neither of our cups ever went below half a cup. While even more folks had shown up to dine while we ate, we never once felt rushed. Overall a great show. Great value too!! Wish I had one of these back home!!
I freaking love Waffle House. I had it three times in less than a week. I had it for the first time on my road trip to Miami, our first WH being in Murfreesboro, TN. The area was sketch (A waitress told us to not stay at the hotel next door because it was recently raided for drugs. Cute.) so when we rolled up to this one a few days later, we were impressed. "It looks bigger than the other one!" I said.
Um. They're all the same size and layout.
In any case, Waffle House is cheap, homecooked goodness. You can see whatever happens in the kitchen.
Get their coffee. And eggs. Get hashbrowns and get 'em smothered, covered, (Nee Bloodhound Gang's "The Bad Touch") capped, peppered, and whatever else ya want. Oh. You prob should get a waffle at some point. Yum.
I wish they were closer to Chicago!
