Close to me, decent beer selection, decent prices. Â Good food menu for a bar, but the food can cost over $10. Â They have occasionally rotating mixed drink specials at cheap prices. Â The staff quality varies pretty wildly, with some being outstanding and some being painfully slow. Â My favorite bartender there remembers me immediately, pours drinks really tall and fast..while another one took about 5 minutes to make one drink (off the special menu). Â Everyone's nice, but the experience there varies from day to day.

I've been to the new Westside numerous times since it opened.  The location is convenient for me and I like the fact that they have a pretty diverse bar menu.  I eat out frequently, and often meet friends for drinks and food. So I was excited about a new option. Unfortunately, the food is not nearly as good as it sounds..almost everything I have had, from the nachos to sliders have been disappointing. The beer selection is not great and the beers are overpriced. You can get great microbrews all over town for 3.00-.3.75 and these guys want 4.50. (Plus they overcharged me last time, so I wound up paying 7.50 for one beer and tip...note to self, COUNT YOUR CHANGE before you walk away)  Also the bartenders are NOT very friendly. I don't mind if  table service isn't always super fast, I understand when they are busy, but I would like to be treated as if I am as important as other customers. I'm 41, so perhaps I am just too old for this bar, the clientele seems to be mostly 20 something kids. All in all, I think I'm done with this place.
Review Source:I had been to the previous one only a couple of times in my youth...I was not impressed and as I understand it it only got MUCH WORSE. So it's nice to see it with a new face.
I will agree with some others that the decor is a little dark, but I like it.It's red and black and has a bit of a hot rod/biker feel.
The outside patio is quite nice.
There are 2 pool tables and free pool on Sundays, if I'm not mistaken, plus all day happy hour. Sunday happy hour is becoming a sort of regular date for my hubby and I. We have been aprox 5 times. The food is really good( can't wait to try some of the revisions, but have to say I we will miss the tempura veggies) It's sort of upscale bar food.
The drinks are good and stiff, a plus in my book.
I have not seen any live music here, and it does seem small so I had wondered about acoustics. However they do have an old style sit down pac man game I believe and who doesn't love that?!
They have at least 3 flat screens for those that want to watch sports.
We have had the same bartender all but 1 time. Laura, and she's GREAT! Friendly, attentive and makes a good drink.( I'll bet she's their best bartender :) ) We had one other another time and it took her too long to acknowledge(or to notice) we were there but once she did it was all good. So,as a tip, a little stressing on acknowledgment may be in order. As for the prices, I don't know what these people are talking about. I don't find it spendy at all.
So I definately recommend you give it a try and support a good local business.
Last update on this one, I don't want to be annoying update guy, but I don't want to leave them with an undeserving rating. Â Been back around four times since I posted my last review. Â Food's been good, service has been good as well. Â Was contacted by the owners and they were very open to the criticism, and obviously took it very seriously. Â
I've since tried the Mac and Cheese, and it's pretty awesome, and the buffalo chicken sliders are amazing, and as a fried appetizer fanatic, the cordon bleu balls rock my world.
That's good enough for me, they clearly care, and that pleases me. Â It's one of my new lunch spots in town (which Oly seriously lacks) so I'm happy that my experience improved in my future visits.
One of my favorite Olympia bars. Â Happy hour offers lots of great deals and the owners are very friendly. Â I personally like their buffalo chicken sliders and garlic cheese bread. Â The bread is SO garlicky and delicious! Â The blue balls and the fish 'n chips are also good, but not stellar. Â I'll be back though!
Review Source:I was told that the new bar was open so I went with my girlfriend and one of our friends. I got the chicken bacon sliders and some beer. I don't know how thay did it but the chicken was bland like it was boiled and not fried or grilled. The girls got girl drinks thay said thay were kinda weak. The staff was ok kinda stuck up. All in all the bill came and I paid a hundred for about forty worth of ok food and ok service I won't be back
Review Source:Love this bar! Â
We were able to spend an evening with friends, enjoy some sweet and stiff drinks, listen to live music and eat some really tasty food - what's better than that?
Um, the only thing I can think of is that Westside  should be soooo much closer to my house!
I would be lying if I said I haven't longed for some sliders in the recent past - Oly is just too far for take out, boo! Â
Owners are awesome, down to earth folks that mingle and blend in the crowd, nice!
Next time I am down, I plan on doubling what I ate last time, just to get my fill. Â
Decor is so fun, modern and yet still feels like a neighborhood tavern, well done sirs.
We stopped by on our way back from Seattle to Portland after a long work day. My friend had the fish tacos and basically had a face orgasm when he took his first bite. I had the nachos on housemade potato chips, I made the right choice! So good!
Great service, a huge choice of beers and booze and tasty food for a great price. I can't ask for more.
From flop to fab- this place has cleaned up quite well. There's still booze, pool, and a patio- but the looks are much more sleek. Nicer barstools, tables, walls have been painted, artwork... I really, REALLY like the new look. I used to feel skeeved out going here, and would say "why?" whenever my friends suggested it... but, no more!
Drinks still decently priced.
Came in from Bremerton, had good reviews here, and I see why. Our bartender was awesome! Great attitude super friendly! The drinks are amazing. We had our Margaritas with coronitas and soooo good! Definitely worth the trip from Bremerton. Good music, atmosphere and more than we expected. Defiantly will be back soon! A place we will recommend!
Review Source:Love this bar!! The sliders are really good, the beer selection is great, and the nachos are absolutely fabulous! We've been here like a dozen times and we've taken two groups of friends here, everybody likes it! We even tried the beet sliders once, which were quite edible, so even vegetarians can find some good eats here. Two pool tables see lots of use on the weekends and they have a couple TV's if you want to watch the game. The decor is great also, really nice bar feel. Not quite a dive, but not a place where everybody is wearing a striped shirt and has gelled hair. In fact the only thing that is even remotely negative is the first time we went in the bartender was very rude. I tried to get a beer from the bar twice and she pointedly ignored my wife and I. I dont know if that was some "thing" she was doing to try and help the waitress out since we were playing pool and had ordered food or what, but she was just rude. She also seemed to be getting the drink orders for the waitresses only after she had gone around the whole bar which I thought was poor service on her part. If the food had not been so good we probably would not have come back on her account, but we have never seen here there since the first time and the service we have gotten on every other occasion has been great.
Review Source:The new Westside Tavern is a product of hard work, vision and creativity. One of those awesome places that manages to combine everything you would love about your neighborhood dive bar with contemporary ambiance and great food.
From what I understand the new owners have put in lot of time and love into reinventing the Westside Tavern. A slick cherry wood bar, new pool tables, a digital jukebox, which offers something for every music taste, and it doesn't stop there! Redesigned patio with solid tiled tables for your libations and space heaters for enjoyment of outdoors even on chilly days and nights. Add some hipster/punk/biker photography and you have a spot equally deserving of young, old and everything in between.
Naturally, the crowed was very eclectic. From local regulars to Seattle hipsters to random out of town patrons everyone was having a good time.
Now on to the menu. I would classify this as bar gourmet. Unpretentious, simple and delicious:
- Portobella Fries: Holy monkey these were awesome! I am not a huge fan of fried food but I couldn't get enough of these. Perfectly crispy outside and tender juicy mushroom flesh on the inside. Also, if you love Sweet Potato fries, these guys do them justice!
- Great mix of sliders: everything from all American version, to ahi tuna, to caprese, to Kobe beef. But le piece de resistance for me were the Buffalo chicken sliders with tender grilled chicken, tangy hot sauce and blue cheese. Your mama can't make them this good.
- Soups, dips, nachos and burgers are also available, and these guys make everything in house, even the dipping sauces.
Beverages: 6 oz wine pours for $4.50, super reasonably priced cocktails and beers on tap or by the bottle.
Top it all off with some friendly and quick bar service and you have a spot one can definitely frequent when in the area.
I don't usually get myself down to Olympia but a group of friends and I attended the Grand Opening.
I understand from the crowd that this place was a pretty run down dive before. Â Well the inside had a nice makeover. Â There was cool photography on the wall of hot tattooed chicks and the bar was very clean. Â The drinks were strong but not too strong to choke down and the American sliders were perfectly cooked. Â Juicy and flavorful would be the words I'd describe them.
The patio was built really nicely, with booth-like benches and even bolted, stable tables for your drinks. Â Also, there is a heater for those that enjoy a cigarette every once and a while, but dislike the winter chill.
I had a great time and would highly recommend anyone in the neighborhood to check them out. Â It would be a great place for any start or end of your night. Â I can't wait to see what other items on the menu tastes like. Â I can see big things coming from this little bar.
We came here over the weekend and had a fantastic time! The place was packed!
We had the sliders and they were great, and the fries we awesome as well (I do love me some fries!) The drinks were strong and decent price, about $4 for a drink. The staff was attentive and friendly, and they have an awesome juke box with anything my little heart might possibly desire!
We will definitely be back, cant wait to try more of the menu!
I'll take "Panorama City" for $1000 Alex...
My first time at the Westside was 15 years ago. Oh how time flies. Now instead of taking shots of Patron at the Westside I'm taking shots of Metamucil at home while watching re-runs of Matlock in bed. Back then you could find me sitting at the bar drinking copious amounts of beer and devouring plate after plate of freezer burnt chicken nuggets. I was a regular for maybe a year or two but somehow the place just kept getting worse and worse so I stopped going.
My most recent visit prior to last night was in 2006 and it had reached even a greater low. It was essentially rot from the ceiling to the floor including the people inside it. The bar was old and crusty and it's clientele and food matched. It was just a sad lonely bar filled with sad lonely people listening to a sad lonely song about someone sad and lonely...you get the idea. But now just like my youth that bar no longer exists.
In it's place is a clean, dark inviting bar with a slider filled menu. I wasn't very hungry so the only thing I tried was a $5 plate of rosemary garlic fries w/ jalapeño lemon aioli. They came topped with cheese which the menu didn't mention. In case there are folks with food allergies it might be worth putting that on the menu however for me it was a nice gluttonous addition. Overall they were okay. The fries were crisp and garlicky with a hint of rosemary and the dip provided a nice kick. They were not the best fries I have had around town but certainly not the worst.
The clientele was a mishmash of 20 something's all the way to folks in their 50's. There was about 20 people in the bar and it was quite loud with just those few people and that's not counting the one, old, drunk, attention-seeking fellow leftover from my earlier visits who kept yelling " YAAAAAH BABBBBBY" every 15 minutes for no apparent reason. I think he might have been playing Bingo by himself but I am not sure. I'm also not sure of what the bar would be like at full capacity but then again I'm never out past Jeopardy so it doesn't really matter to me.
So it looks like after years and years of avoiding the Westside I can finally try to recapture a part of my youth without getting peck implants and that's a win in my book.
Moseyed on in after reading the positive Yelp reviews. Â Hadn't been in for a few years, as honestly didn't care for the atmosphere. Â Sure glad we came in today for a snack and a couple of drinks. Â Really liked what the new owners have done with the place, all new, what an improvement. Cory took very good care of us, thanks! Â Had the American sliders w/fries and they were good, not overcooked meat like some places. Â The mixed drinks we had were $3.75 not bad. Â We will def be back, it's a good addition to the neighborhood. Â All those that are out there saying negative things (complaining about the change, get over it), don't listen to them. Give them a try and support local business.
Review Source:Wow, what a way to start a business. I'll admit, I was excited when I heard about the new ownership and their plans to spruce up what has for a long time been an Oly dive bar staple. It could only get better, right? But they shot themselves in the foot before the doors even opened. Besides the atrocious way they treated the existing staff (who were great, btw), and their attitude that any regulars from the old Westside were unwelcome to come back, they seem to think that they are a high end bar in a large city. I'm sorry, but 5.75 for a pint of micro beer? Even Anthony's or the Falls Terrace doesn't charge that much. With the blatant disregard of the people that drank in that bar on a daily basis, I don't understand where they think they are going to draw a clientele from that is willing to take it up the arse like that on a regular basis. Hopefully they come from old money, or have rich friends, because that place is going to hemorrhage.
Review Source:I'm not a big drinker so I won't go review the drinks. My friend though said that if you stuck to the basics they pour some rather good libations. Just stay away from anything that sounds a lady wearing an alligator purse and mink coattails would order. (Stick to the old fashioned good stuff, essentially). But I won't ding a place on what I don't order...so I'll review the food.
I was there last night to celebrate the TAG event thrown by Rely Local, Community Values and Sign A Rama and was it a good time! Apparently, this tavern has gone through a lot of changes and is NO LONGER the hole it use to be! SWEET! So I'll review the food since, well, that's what I do.
Holy Moly are the sliders good. Seriously good bar food. They are exactly what good bar food should be. Greasy, messy, damn tasty and perfect for soaking up some alcohol (even though I know there exists little proof that grease actually does that). I personally enjoy sliders more than regular burgers for the same reason I love dim sum. They exist as delicious little bites that don't fill you up just so you can have more. Your palate does not go numb and you don't feel stupidly stuffed from gorging yourself. I'll name off three which made my toes wiggle..
**All american slider - standard with delicious moo meat, cheese, pickles, mustard and ketchup.
**Buffalo Chicken sliders - Clucker meat, spicy and zangy sauce and bleu cheese
** Hidden Meatball - Mystery meat, red sauce and melty mozz.
They get a 5 for the sliders and I may alter this review later depending on other things i've had but for the best sliders in Olympia/Lacey/Tumwater...check these guys out.
I live and work in the neighborhood of the Westside Tavern, and they just reopened their doors. So, I went in last night for a drink, and took some coworkers back today for lunch. We thought the remodel was GREAT! The beer was ultra cold with a good selection on tap, and we all really enjoyed the food. Glad you guys' doors are open again. CHEERS.
