Bar service is reasonable, but table service is awful. Painfully slow, wrong orders, etc. Beer selection is okay. It's nice to have the open patio for good weather, but otherwise, very little atmosphere. Not the kind of place you want to stay long. Will not be back.

Wonderful bar and interior that allows you to walk in and out to the patio area easily. As you would expect with the restaurant's name, they have so many beer options to choose from that never seems to end. Lots of people come here just to relax and have a good conversation with a friend. I wouldn't go here if you want to get crazy, but it's definitely a very relaxing night out with the boyfriend or some close friends if you wanted to just talk or watch a game. They have several channels going on at the same time so you're never bored.

The waiters and waitresses here are really fit. It makes you kind of feel bad about yourself when they're in great shape and here you are gulping down a pint of some heavy deliciousness.

Went here twice, bad experience both times. Service is unbelievably terrible. Getting a drink can be next to impossible, we waited for 20 minutes and left.

On a positive note, it is located next to the plaza, so if you get your dose of d-bags for the day, you can always hop over and mingle with the hipsters.

Yea, so they lied to me and never intended to refund me. Never going back there and you should ban this place. Very low class staff and management.

    ------------------------

Watch your credit cards!!!!! This place will steal your money!!!!

Visited this place and am having a horrible experience. I say 'having' because it is still not over.

Basiclly opened a tab on my card and told the waitress I would pay cash. Bought 4 beers for myself and a friend and left cash with a decent tip. However, my credit card was billed not once, but twice.

Spoke to the GM who blew me off saying I should wait a couple of days to see if pending charge goes through which makes no sense because I should have never been charged at all.

I waited, and not only did the charge go through, but a new one is now pending, and it is for a slightly different amount!!!!!

Went to the bar and talked to the manager who fed me a story saying the district manager has to credit me and it will take a few days. WTF kinda bs is that?!?! I didn't want to argue so I just left and called my bank.

Can't believe this place treats people like this. Just blows them off and lies to them after billing them erroneously.

I'll change this review if things are resolved properly and I get refunded. Other than that, all I can say is beware. The service is slow, it's noisy and the seating is uncomfortable. Aside from some obscure beers the place lacks any attraction or ambiance. Well, I guess the tvs are a plus if you're into that.

Wow, there are a lot of beers here. Its a real beer lovers paradise. Pick out a few brews and enjoy a fun relaxed evening. Good bands here too. Outdoor seating. I was happy to see such an international selection in Birmingham. Nice people here too.

It was okay. I wasn't very impressed with my first visit. You get a list of beers and that is it... Just a long list of beers. Service wasn't great but it was a Wednesday night and maybe they were short handed. I may give it another shot on a weekend.

Overall, this is a cool place.  Not sure if many know that they don't serve food, not even baskets of pretzels.  So be sure you get a full belly elsewhere so you will be ready to try all the different types of beer.  It's a bare-bones kinda place, but the atmosphere is nice. It's kinda of on the 'cold' side, not temperature (although it was COLD as in freezer), but environment, not real cozy...concrete floors, basic tables, chairs.  But again, it's a beer joint, can't expect it to be a steakhouse.  As others have said, it does have a Buffalo Wild Wings feel.

I've only been once so I can't really speak to the regular clientele, but  that night it seemed to be mid-range...kinda crowded with folks who may have been out of college 5-6 years.  So they might be past the bar-hopping crowd, but still hang with lots of  friends and tv's and loud music.  No complaints or looking down on folks, just describing the vibe.  Besides, I was once in that crowd myself!  Just seems like a long, long time ago! ha!

Anyway, my beer was good, some kind of blueberry something or other.  (I'm not a beer drinker per se, meaning I'm not really up on my lingo).  My boyfriend on the other hand wasn't so lucky with his choice.  He tried some kind of chocolate and wheat something...had a licorice after taste. Bleech.  We didn't know until after he bought it that he could have tasted it first.  As for the service, it was typical. I was passed over by both female bartenders, even though I was practically leaning over the bar to get their attention.  As soon as my boyfriend stepped up and I stood behind him, they took his order. What was THAT about?  Interesting.

Overall, we'll be back.  Might wait until late spring though as the open-air concept late December was a bit colder than we thought and the tall heat lamp wasn't really helping take the chill off unless you were sitting right under it.  Even though the patio cover was closed, it was still cold.

Does anyone know if they will eventually allow folks to take their beer out into Pickwick Plaza? I know that's just asking for trouble, but might be a cool concept.

I was in AL on vacation and went to WoB twice in one week. The second time was on my way to the airport. I wanted one more regional beer before going back home.

It wasn't very busy either time I went so I had no problem with service. Both bartenders were friendly and had no problem giving me a taste of something on tap before I ordered. Lucky for me, most of their bottle beers were in stock both times but unfortunately, the second time I went, they were out of Southern Pecan on tap.

Prices are not bad for what they offer. I don't even need to mention the amazing selection, do I? It is WORLD of beer afterall.

I'm a girl and I drink beer. I mean real beer. On my first visit, I had a female bartender and she wasn't as knowledgeable as she should have been. She asked what type of beer I liked and I said I prefer wheat or brown/nut ale. Then after suggesting a few things, I said I also liked porters. She said she never heard of a wheat porter. Um.. What?!?! No. Just no.

On my way to the airport, I absolutely needed another pint of Southern Pecan but they were out on tap. Bartender didn't even ask if I wanted a bottle and he just grabbed one and opened it! Tap vs bottle is very different and had I known, I would have chosen another bottle. I did get another and had Back Forty's before heading home.

Would I return to WoB on my next visit? Absolutely. I love trying regional beer and they had so much I couldn't get at home. I'll just pay more attention to the bartenders next time.

Great atmosphere. Great beers on tap. Very nice staff. The only reason I don't give the place more stars is the service. I could have grown the hops and brewed the beer myself in the time it took to place an order and then finally get the beer. If the service was timely, they'd have gotten two or maybe three more rounds of revenue out of the group at my table. I've been several times and it was like that each time.

First off, I'm honestly happy just to see something finally occupy the long-abandoned space in the Pickwick Plaza. When I first heard about World of Beer opening, I was really excited. The idea of having another bar in Birmingham with an exhaustive beer selection sounded great to me. I "liked" them on Facebook to keep up with their progress of putting the place together, but as they got closer to the grand opening, the posted pictures began to worry me that this bar wasn't exactly going to be my kind of scene. When I got around to checking it out, my suspicions were sadly confirmed. In terms of ambiance, World of Beer has a lot more in common with Buffalo Wild Wings than say, the J. Clyde or Dave's: tons of TVs, guys performing cover tunes with acoustic guitars, loud dance music, generic "trendy" atmosphere, etc.

Having said all that, this place definitely has its pluses. The thick menu lives up to the bar's name, and they even have a handy iPhone app that lets you scroll through their menu and read info about each beer (seriously, this is pretty great). Also, this isn't a bad place to hang out in the afternoon to watch a football game over a beer. At night though, the vibe gets a bit too clubby for me.

WOB is a cool spot and I'm not even a big beer drinker. I discovered several new beers that I like. The only downside is that when I went on a Sunday evening they were out of about 75% of the beers on their menu.

WoB rocks! Just found out that there is one near DC so I'll definitely be visiting that location soon.
I went to the Bham WoB the first week it opened and everything was so shiny and clean. Obviously, lots of drinks to choose from. I stuck with mainly hard ciders. My favorite of them all was the Crispin The Saint. I happened to get the last bottle left that night so I was pretty happy about that.
Live music on the mini stage inside was pretty cool and the atmosphere was pretty lax and warm on a chilly night.

Too many tvs. Beer selection is overwhelming (similar to the JClyde). Lots of beer coolers behind the bar though. And a huge menu of dranks. Too many tvs though (TMZ was on 1 of the 12tvs inside). They thankfully do NOT have Miller Lite(add a * for that) though.

Good selection. Formulaic atmosphere. Undiscerning clientele. 5 points sucks.
