We celebrated my niece's UCLA graduation at the xbar. We had a reserved room with appetizers and open bar for 2 hours. Most of us were also guests at the hotel.
*great waitress! (Telilah I think her name was)
*the appetizers tasted really good
*the dj was so rude but the manager, Nicholas, responded professionally and adequately by informing the dj to honor all requests and following up with us
*the private room was hot and needs some tlc (very stained carpet)
*unfortunately there's not a great dance area
*the tv projected on the wall outside was local news, all night, quite disappointing
*the outside patio is awesome, except for the local news that was projected onto the wall...
All in all, it was a great party place for a reasonable price.
Went there after a screening for drinks and bar food. Food was good (a little pricey) service was good. What threw me off was that they automatically add an 18% tip and charge tax on top of it. As far as I'm concerned tips are NOT mandatory and although I always tip at least 20% I was taken aback because had I not looked at my check before I signed the CC Slip I would've tipped an extra 20 on top of what they automatically added!!!
I know most of the patrons that have a few drinks in them are not going to scrutinize their check before they sign! The CC slips were on top of the check and there was the usual tip line for one to add the tip! I just think it's antics like these that just take away from a place. it's despicable. Public Service Announcement: Make sure to ALWAYS look over your bill!!!
This is a review for x bar happy hour only. Â Drinks & food here can be pretty expensive. Â I came here a few times for happy hr, and the crowd was... professional but more mature. Â Of course that's expected of Century City... Â I would come back for happy hour if a company event was hosted here, but probably not on my own. Â The way x bar is designed is a one long room, sort of like a long rectangle -- it doesn't foster socializing, and the booths and tables only segregate people even more. Â I'd rather drink over priced drinks at Pink Taco.
Review Source:Had one of the best times for happy hour here with one of my fave girls.
Got a bottle of a provence rose and some snacks. Wasn't super expensive. TV's had on basketball, which seemed to be what most people there (primarily men, yippee!) were watching. So after we're a little tipsy...we see that a local university's business school alumni association has set up an event and everyone has name tags. Oh the things I do as wing woman for my girls...I went and nabbed us some name tags and scribbled out a couple random names. Then we reeeeeeeaaaaally had some fun.
She didn't get a date out of it, but was an enjoyable atmosphere and the bar itself is a cute spot. Parking was validated valet (hotel parking)
I must have had a really great experience at X Bar in the past that lingers in my subconscious and keeps me from absolutely hating this place despite my last few visits.
I've come here 3 or 4 times - great happy hour location for anyone near Ave of the Stars in Century City. Â
I vaguely remember there being a happy hour menu and discounted cocktails. Â I went tonight with a group of coworkers and they only had 2 beers and some wine on special, a few specials on food - no discount on cocktails.... That by itself would have been fine if the service wasn't so damn slow. Â
My group was one of 5 tables in the whole bar and in an hour and a half, the waitress only came by to check on my group twice. Â I was only able to order one glass of wine. I had to go to the bar to request to close my tab and it was still a wait for my credit card. Â The last time I was here (for an equally dead happy hour) the slow service sent me to the bar to order a drink directly which earned me a scolding from our slow ass waitress and earned her no tip from me.*
*I'm a good tipper and a guilt tipper. Â Your service has to be the equivalent of a swift kick to the lady bits to garner no tip from me. Â I didn't tip tonight either. Â
If you work in the area, need somewhere to kill time and can get a seat at the bar where you'll actually get some service, the X Bar is worth a visit.
Nice place to grab a drink for a business meeting or happy hour with your friends.
The martini's are very strong, whew but very pricey!
Nice place, love the lighting and the chill upbeat music that they play, I am looking forward to coming back soon and trying the lemonade which completely knocked me off my feet after about two and I am far from a lightweight :)
I arranged an event here and working with their special events manager was the worst experience ever. Â She took ages to respond to emails, made changes to orders and didn't indicate that in the email (I take blame for not catching her error, but shouldn't it be her job to explain her proposals), and then when asking for a breakdown of the overages I was sent receipts to decipher myself. Â I had to pay a service charge for bad service... Â they should have paid me.
Rude, unprofessional and a nightmare.
Checked into the hotel on Thursday evening, needed to relax and watch the game. So we saw the X Bar. It has  a pretty nice interior, the decor was very retro. We took a booth and within seconds the waitress arrives. We ordered two drinks and she says do you want them doubled.
Well I thought maybe it was happy hour and they double for for no extra charge. Wrong she just told me that's the way they want it done at the bar, ask everyone.
My vodka on the rocks was poured very carefully, light on the booze heavy on the ice. Kris's Jamison was served the same. Next we ordered the boneless spicy chicken. It was OK, buffalo wings without the bone.
Comfortable booths, good looking waitresses, but light on the pour.
We reserved "The Grove" for a happy hour in my honor. Â I didn't really need a HH but it was nice of my coworkers to put it together.
The drinks here were expensive and so were the appetizers but that's a good thing because we had a hard time hitting our minimum consumption level. Â I had a Back Porch Lemonade and it was delicious. Â It was one of those ultra-dangerous drinks where you can barely taste the alcohol. Â It would have been nice if the straw that the drink came with wasn't extra short and hard to use.
The decor is modern and comfortable and it's not rowdy or too crowded. Â It's a cool place to hang out if you're willing to spend the $$$.
Drinks were good. Upon walking in, I saw people standing around... having fun laughing with group of friends~ and there were few drinking at the bar. There are also tables you can sit in... it wasn't too crowded on a wkend night. Came here last minute, wasn't dressed to impress but whatever... hahaha~
Outdoor patio was great, with heat lamps... also not crowded. Always pass by this hotel, and even came here for a convention months ago but never checked out X bar and did recently... I'd go back~
Valet is $8 with validation if you wanna know since it's hotel parking~
I came here a few months back for a friend's birthday. It was a great evening due to the occasion but I definitely wouldn't pick the X Bar for my celebration. I was expecting it to be a lot bigger; the X Bar is pretty much a long, skinny bar. When you first walk in you see the bar with a few tables across from it, you walk down a hallway and the dance floor is on your left. We mainly stayed in the bar area and had a lot of drinks so I can't say too much about the dance floor or that section of the bar but it seemed like they were playing pretty good music.
The bartenders were all pretty friendly and attentive, and the X Bar has a list of some pretty unique cocktails that are all around $11. The highlight of the night was seeing the then Dallas Maverick, Tyson Chandler. Other than that, nothing too special about the X Bar.
Considering this bar is in a hotel I found it to have a lot of atmosphere.
The outside seating area is a nice place to enjoy a drink, inside is very trendy and nicely decked out.
Bar staff were attentive and not afraid to indulge in some conversation and drinks were reasonably priced and with a good pour.
This is corporate america's getaway happy hour, right near the mall and across from the century city towers office buildings.
Surprisingly, the food is pretty good! The pound of boneless chicken wings are great, the pizzas are delish, but my all time favorite is the tuna tartare puzzle layered on crispy wonton skins with avocado... YUUUUUMMMMY!!!
Service is great. Decor is swank and classy. Prices are not awful at all.
Came here to grab a drink with an old friend from HK this past weekend. Since we were in the conversing mood, we decided to sit out by the fire pit despite the little bit of chill. (They have live DJ inside the bar and getting the guests on the dance floor making a conversation a bit difficult)
Elegant bar, and nice decor, fit for the Hyatt in the heart of Century City. Â My dirty martini was strong, but not over powering...plus I got three olives (love). They also have a happy hour and people who work in the surroundings can unwind after work while getting a bite.
A nice place to hangout and meet friends since it is so close to my work and my house.
We hosted an alumni event here and loved the service, space and the food. Â I highly suggest this to anyone who needs to get a few people together for a mixer, a meeting or a great night out. Â The space was beautiful and I loved the fact that we had the indoor / outdoor space.
Everyone was really fabulous with all of our requests.
Met a friend for drinks and then that turned into ordering almost everything off the small plate menu.....
I tried the blueberry mojito, the server said it was there most popular...it was okay...couldve been muddled more but what bartender enjoys hearing that someone wants a mojito.....
We had the tuna tartar and it was SO good!!! it came out on chips along with guacamole, perfect!
The chicken morsels were okay, I saw other patrons with this dish and my friend said it was the most popular one on the menu...really? it was just fried chicken on a stick! I think that if I were doing some heavy drinking this would be a perfect dish but I promise you it isn't the best they have to offer!
We tried the pulled pork sandwich, my friend ordered this dish and it looked too yummy to NOT try! I'm glad I did because it was my favorite of the night.
We also had the pear and brie flat bread with arugula and the mozzarella and tomato flat bread. Both were okay, the pear flat bread was piled high with arugula so it was hard not to make a mess and the mozzarella flat bread was soggy.
Overall, there wasn't anything that would make me eager to come back, but a nice place to have an after dinner drink.
If you work in Century City and are sick of the crowded, loud happy hours at Pink Taco, this is the place for you. Located within the Hyatt Regency on Ave of the Stars, this place is chic, low key and not crazy/wild/loud. Definitely my bar of choice for a happy hour with co-workers after work. They have an outdoor area as well.
The nachos and garlic fries are really great. I've had the flat bread, which was good as well. I would assume the other food items won't disappoint.
The only con is that last call for happy hour specials is at 6:30pm (SO freaking early).
In terms of parking, not sure how much they charge, but I'd think you can probably park at the Westfield mall and walk over.
I rented a party bus for my birthday and made X Bar one of our stops. David, the event coordinator, was SO helpful! I told him I'd be arriving around 12am and he assured me that they'd take care of my party of 40 people without a problem and without cover (Saturday - $10 cover usually). The security was also really nice and didn't give us a problem at all.
The bar itself was pretty spacious.. my group was spread all over the place. There is a small dance floor, there's a bar area with tv on, there's the outside fire pits, a lot of couches and seating space. All in all, I really liked it!!
Went for The Future Sis-in-law's birthday on a Friday which luckily coincided with happy hour. Â Loved the design. Modern with warm, earth tones. Â Spacious outdoor area with firepits and lounges that recline. Â There is also a large projection TV. Noticed lots of wicker: not my thing but didn't detract too much. Â The crowd was diverse. Â Plenty of cubicle workers in coat & tie from the nearby office buildings, graying hotel guests in shorts with very pale legs and on this particular night 30-something urbanites attending a pre-Grammy or some such event. Â Ordered the garlic fries-great, sweet potato fries-really good, and the sliders-blah. Be sure to ask about the "dugout." Â It's a free appetizer! We got the curry lamb which The Fiancee said was tasty. Â Didn't stay for what looked like a pretty fun DJ dance party. Â Would ONLY return for happy hour.
Parked at the mall. 3 hours free parking, but don't stay a minute over cuz the fee goes way up. Â FYI The Fiancee made the walk, in heels, in 10 min, so plan accordingly.
So there I was, having just parked my friend Ali texted me "I am here".
"How much is valet?"
"Well you get this ticket and you get it validated and it is good for 3 hours"
at the end of the night i ended up paying $16 for parking being there from 7:30 to 12
apparently we ended up crashing a network event, we grabbed some name tags and he was berry something and i was olga something.
the bartenders are very nice and attentive. they have an extensive drink menu! we ended up getting the crab dip, the meat skewers, tuna tar tare, all of which were amazing!
out of all the things on their menu we ordered the bloody marys with ketel one instead of absolute, ugh i hate absolute. ketel is alot better. anyyyywhooo the bloody marys are great here!
at the end of the night we came back after seeing alice in wonderland 3d IMAX, which was kind of trippy. We were thirsty but didnt want booze!
I got POMEGRANATE GARDEN MINT SODA
pomegranate juice, muddled mint, club soda, mint sprig
sooo good and Ali got
CRANBERRY POMEGRANATE SPRITZER
cranberry and pomegranate juice, soda water, lime
soooo good as well!
The decor is very unique, reminds me of Miami with the lush pastel coloring, and the almost VICE ROY chairs. I will be back!
Every time I watch Ari and the boys on HBO's Entourage whooping it up, I feel like Lloyd...overworked, underappreciated, and definitely in need of a vacation. Â At the end of a recent project, we took the night off and partied like the gang...outside and in the shadows of the MGM and Fox buildings. Â Drama would have been proud!
Checked into the Hyatt Century City and rolled straight to the X Bar. Â Their Happy Hour is awesome and virtually unadvertised. Â Mon - Fri from 4 -6:30 PM, beers, wines, well drinks, and small plates are half price. Â DogDad was thrilled to find his favorite beer (Pranqster) on tap...craft beers in LA are pretty rare.
The oversize bed chairs encourage peace and plopping, especially the ones by the bamboo grove.  If the weather's crappy, you can always head indoors or there's a giant fire pit  that gets stoked at sundown.
It's the perfect way to get your LA groove on and guaranteed to provide interesting eavesdropping. Â We saw everything from roving packs of cougars to wannabe models who skipped out on the check. Â Everyone, however, was always looking over their shoulders to see who was looking...or not.
I was pretty skeptical about this place since it's after all, a hotel bar and I don't care how sheik or boutique a hotel it is, it's still an overpriced hotel bar. Especially since it's in a Hyatt which isn't one of my favorites.
Turns out, it's a pretty cool bar with a great outside patio and surprisingly good (albeit pricey) food. Mostly apps but they range from three different types of sliders (beef, turkey and garden), chicken diablo nuggets, ceviche and garlic fries. All really well done. Especially the sliders which are actually pretty thick burgers on a brioche style bun. Only things that was really bad was the pizza but you wouldn't really come here for that. Steer clear of that and instead have the steer inside of those mini-burgers and you'll be just fine.
I came here for an alumni mixer and was impressed by the decor of the place.
It was pretty chic and had a nice outdoor area. Â Other than that, nothing else really stands out. Â I really wish something was impressive because the valet parking was nearly $20 with tip!
If anything, XBar is a nice hotel bar inside the beautiful Century Plaza hotel. Â Good place to go if you want to hang out in a fancy venue and get a drink.
So this is the 2nd time I have been to this bar. Â Both times with Eunju O. Â Because I am too lazy to venture out of the hotel, and she's new to LA, so doesn't know a lot of places to take me to.
So for a non-lobby hotel bar, it's got a nice ultra-lounge type of look, and the two times I have been here, it's always been a weekday and fairly early (or late) around 10-11pm, so it was pretty empty inside.
I can't say there was anything here that really stood out, nor anything that was really bad. Â It was exactly what I expected, and helps me unwind from a busy day.
We came here for the business mixer after our horrible experience from  Pick Taco.  BTW, after my review I got a nasty PM from Tim K and then Tim K proceeded to post a review with five stars.  Tim K has no pics, no personal info, no friends, and a single review (Pink Taco).  Go figure.  I thought about replying to his nasty message but not worth my time.  I also thought about getting my MIS department to trace his post to find out his whereabouts so that I can ........ again not worth my time.
X-Bar is very quaint. Â The bar has about 7-8 stools. Â Across from the bar has 4 booths that comfortably sits five. Â Adjacent to the bar is a lounge with comfy couches. Â For the smokers, there are two entrances to the large patio area with plenty of tables and seats for you to enjoy your drink and smoke. Â
The service was great. Â Even with 50+ people at this mixer, the bartenders were quick to acknowledge and serve with a smile. Â AND they didn't throw the menu at my friend looking for a non alcoholic bev. Â Will come back. Â
Last thing, please no nasty PM's after this review.
Went here last night to meet up with my friend. We got there around 7:45 p.m. so didn't make it in time for happy hour. There were maybe 20 other people there? I couldn't tell if the portion we were in was the entire bar. This hotel kind of gives me horrible flashbacks from taking the CA Bar Exam last summer.
Anyway, our waitress was nice enough. I just ordered a glass of wine and my friend got the Pisces drink. The menu reads like a small novel and it makes no sense that they list a drink for every horoscope sign, however only the current birthday sign is available? Why taunt someone with 11 unavailable drinks? We also got garlic fries to munch on - they were very tasty. The waitress also brought us wasabi covered pinenuts. I think I ate about 150 of these things. They were so good and cleared my sinuses.
The crowd was the typical lawyer-slash-agent-slash-vaguely unattractive crowd that think money is the same as quality. But I was only there to catch up so I didn't pay attention to much around me.
3 stars for the wasabi peas and garlic fries. The alcohol prices are standardly inflated for the area.
I used to live next to century city mall and this was my go-to place to lounge around. Beautiful and spacious. Â Really cool side room to host parties. Â Nice balcony. Â I feel like I'm at a resort when I am chilling out here. Â
Drinks- Not a mixed drink type of girl but i like the lavendar rosemary cosmo, Good beers on tap, drinks come nice and strong
Food- Reuben Panini with the beaver mustard is EXCELLENT and well presented (my bf actually asked the waitress what beaver mustard was and she was gracious enough not to roll her eyes at him and gave him a serious answer)
Sashimi stack- expensive for its price and size but pretty good
Mac n Cheese- Good!
I haven't tried anything else on the food menu but what i've had so far impressed me.
Granted, I too was here for an event, last night, and therefore I'm judging the place without knowing the prices.
It's tough ti find a place in LA that actually served REALLY good drinks. Â Fresh juices, fruits, nice spirits. Â This place did things with mango and vodka that I haven't had outside of San Fran and Thailand. Â Yum.
It also pleased me to no end that they had my all time favorite New Zealand sauvignon blanc. Â So needless to say I had a few glasses (I had a designated driver).
Also, the burgers were good. Â And so were all of the appetizers, including the white meat chicken boneless buffalo tenders, which, incidentally, were beautifully executed, and also cute because it was an ESPN (sports) magazine party.
Don't know much about the normal clientele. Â Last night it was really tall basketball players, sports people I've never heard of (but only because I haven't heard of any of them), super over-the-top looking blonde women with absurdly short skirts, and random not-yet-famous people, or at least not to me.
In  any case, all of the ridiculousness didn't matter because I was there with great friends/family, and they Kim Crawford 2007 Sauvignon Blanc!
Also, the food was great for bar food, but if it costs a ton (which I imagine it probably does), why not spend your dough across the way at Craft?
The X Bar is a bougie bar with a bunch of couches, flat screens to watch sports on, and a fire pit out back. Â 2 stars because it's REAL nice here.. that's about all it has going for it. Â Crowd.. bunch of business types from around Century City.
I hear they have a DJ spinning on the weekends but can't speak on it cause I've only been during the week. Â The drinks are crazy expensive and aren't even strong. Â Nuff said!
This place is awesome! ..........................
......if you are a metrosexual, a "trend-setter" or if you really like toothpicks with little knots in them. Â
Basically, that's it. Â There is suprisingly little to say about this place. Â The outside area is kind of cool, I guess. Â The food leaves a lot to be desired. Â The drinks -- my friends and I all got shorted on our drink portions. Â Like, my friend was served a martini in a glass that was 2/3 full. Â And that is being optimistic.
Irregardless, this place was supposably so great, but for reals, it was not. Â Between you and I, as the crow flies, the place just isn't what it is cracked out to be. Â It's all smoking mirrors!
I work in a very tall office building in a neighborhood that is fast becoming a hub of the entertainment industry. Â Next to my building is a vast windowed agency known to insiders as the Death Star. Â A half block down is a gym that caters mainly to members who pull up in car services. Â At least 4 floors in my office building are home to major cable networks and the programming executives who insist on having their assistants all but spoon feed them. Â
Because of the fear of falling into this lifestyle, I prefer my lunches under $7 and packaged in styrofoam  containers and my beer domestic and served 5 to a bucket.  However, every once in a while I fall prey to my surroundings.  Last night was one of those nights.
X Bar is the kind of place I should be doing drinks at if I wasn't so afraid of growing up. Â The menu is in the form of a bamboo binder and includes dishes like brie and walnut quesadillas. Â The martinis are a blend one flavor too many and the draught beer list includes only one from the Anheuser Busch family. Â
My discomfort with this level of class was only emphasized by the busy decor. Â The booth we sat in was surrounded by fake foliage which, because of the harsh red lights from the side made the seating cushions look stained. Â The bar was lit with a goldish blue and the flooring inside, a slate tile, was all too much.
However, I had excellent company and a drink that made the rest of my complaints seem to disappear. Â And at the end of a long day working in the field where perception matters more than reality I was happy to drink it all up - the bad lighting, the sad looking waitress, the orange juice cosmo - all of it.
I went here for some pre-drive home alcohol. Â Makes the drive home that much more exciting. Â This being my first time to the X Bar I was quite impressed. Â Seemed upscale with very nice booths and sitting areas around. Â There was a patio outside that I heard has some sort of fire pits with couches around.
The bar seemed fully stocked, but being a beer man, I was more concerned with what was on tap. Â They had Flat Tire on draught so I sipped a couple of those and was quite pleased with the beer itself and the price wasn't too bad.
I know this place is centrally located for many a Hollywood biz company (as I work for one of them) but for a happy hour instead of being surrounded by agents, assistants, and such, it felt more like I was sharing company with accountants, lawyers, and out-of-town car dealers from Texas. Â Lots of suits and professionals abound, and it seemed many of them belonged in the "Baby Boom" generation.
But who was I to care? Â I was there for two things: beer and hanging out with some coworkers after quitting time. Â I'd imagine there's a different crowd there on the weekends. Â Beer was good, the bartenders were nice and talkative, and the prices seemed good for happy hour. Â I plan on going back again soon.
I can't say I was disappointed nor impressed with X bar but it is a nice place to hang out if you really have nothing else better to do and need to get out. They have a solid list of mixed drinks which are pretty good but pricey. The ambiance is really nice with the fire pit and ample seating. I was there with a big group so there was lots of space for us to spread out. The music was like the bar itself nothing special but can't really complain. I didn't see a DJ but I could imagine a mixed CD as the source of entertainment. Â I was there on a Saturday night and the place was not crowded at all and was pretty mixed. Overall ho hum place to get started and head over to Zanzibar (know what I say skip this place all together and go straight over to Zanzibar)
One more thing don't forget to validate parking at the bar.
Happy hour here is only til 6pm where you get 15% off drinks. Say what? What time do people at CAA get off work anyway? In no great hurry because of that, we made our way to the Hyatt around 7, parking in the Century City Mall since you get three hours for free there as opposed to whatever the Hyatt valet charges to park.
The lights inside the bar area were kinda kitchen bright especially with the setting sun shining through the windows but it gave us a good look of the beautiful decor. Booths with curtains lined the walls affording an intimate spot for cuddling couples, while the apres-work crowds hung out on the patio splitting appetizers and decompressing. So the bar stools at the bar were the perfect spot for two girlfriends to chat.
But first, the drinks. A small binder with an X on it awaited our perusal. I scanned it cover to cover several times. Hm, none of the drinks really struck my fancy. And for some reason the chocolate/coffee martinis were separated from the other specialty cocktails by the wine list and appetizer list. Perhaps they categorized them as dessert cocktails?
Finally, since I just had Wilshire's key lime cocktail the night before, I thought I should try X's California Keys ($12) to see how it differed. John, our bartender, did it up and set this lime green concoction in front of me, sans the almond graham cracker crust that the menu promised me. Apparently they were out of the fine powdery crumbs. Boo.
Wouldn't have made much of a difference though since as it was, it was barely drinkable. I'm not blaming John, mind you, but rather the key lime vodka used in the mixture. "I didn't really like it," I confessed to John. He nodded knowingly. "Why didn't you tell me?" I whined. He shrugged. I just found it too strong, if that's possible, and overly lime-y. Midori was listed in the ingredients but I didn't taste it. Maybe more of its sweetness could have helped it some.
To get that citrusy taste out of my mouth, I ordered the $14 sliders -- a trio of angus baby burgers (you can choose from veggie, turkey or angus) with cheddar cheese, chipotle aioli, bacon and avocado served on a shiny brioche. I was famished so quickly devoured the tiny burgers. Honestly I couldn't tell you if they were exceptional since there wasn't much time spent savoring them, but if there's bacon, avocado and cheddar I'm happy.
For my next cocktail I debated between the Mochatini ($12 -- Absolut Vanilla, coffee liqueur and dark creme de cocoa) and the Double Shot Dutch Mocha ($12), a simple mix of Van Gogh double espresso vodka, dutch chocolate vodka and Godiva dark chocolate liqueur. Although they sorta sounded similar I chose the latter for its double dose of chocolate.
Although it showed up at my elbow without any chocolate flourishes or any garnishes, I liked it at first sip as it tasted like spiked coffee, black. My favorite! It made me wish I hadn't wasted my time with that first cocktail...let's not speak of that one ever again.
For dessert we had the cheesecake strawberries. The best chocolate-dipped strawberries evuh! Genius! We bit into the fruit and found yummy creamy cream cheese. The chocolate casing was all right, would have been wayyy better had they used dark chocolate.
So would I come back here again to explore and try out the rest of the cocktail menu? Meh. Actually, I guess if I really wanna go barhopping, like say before a movie at the AMC, I could hit up the X Bar and then mosey over to Pink Taco for margaritas after, maybe even sip a caipirinha on Ummba Grill's outdoor patio in front of the movie theater. And then watching a flick among the mall rats won't seem so bad.
I think they officially got rid of the brown uniforms since everyone was in regular clothes when I went. Â Overall, a pretty nice hotel bar though not as fancy as I would have imagined for something so close to the CAA.
The decor is simple and beautiful. Â One of the walls features changing lights in the background with fake branches in the foreground which creates a really nice ambiance. Â Hard to describe, beautiful in person. Â There's plenty of plush seating and flat screen TVs all around. Â
But on to the really good stuff: They make mean drinks. Â The mango mojito was yumalicious. Â If you want to get tipsy fast, order a shot since it comes in a huge glass that's the equivalent of 2.5 - 3 shots. Â I only tried one of the appetizers -- some spicy chicken dish -- that was quite good as well. Â An ideal after-work spot for those in Century City.
No reviews since early May? Â That's very strange considering how busy the place was after work when I went their yesterday. Â Maybe there aren't a lot of yelpers in Century City. Â Too busy adding value to their firms and not enough value adding to yelp.
$7 beers and so-so service. Â Nice patio, cool interior. Â I didn't try any of the food, but it looked okay. Â I suspect it is nothing to rave about.
I think it might be a cool after work Wednesday night outing, but if you hanging around people who aren't down with overpaying a bit for drinks, you will just get a bunch of grief. Â Tell them that it is better than the junk at French 75 across the street.
Personally, I would prefer to hang out at Houston's bar and have some good food and drink. Â If you are looking for a hip new place to hang out and impress somebody, this might be okay.
Interestingly, tonight, there were no brown uniforms at X Bar. The waitresses are wearing black informal suit. Very uptight, but I think it's appropriate for this bar, considering how uptight the rest of Hyatt Hotel is. The bar is very hip, trendy, but unfortunately, the guests are not as hip and trendy as the bar tries to convey. Patio area is pretty nice. Too bad it's too windy for us to seat out there.
The drinks are weak. Pears and Mango cocktail has too much club soda in it.
The burger and garlic fries are out of this world, though. The burger reminds me of (Bellagio's) Fix's petite burgers: juicy angus burgers with chipotle aioli, rested on golden-colored (from the egg wash) crispy buns. As of the garlic fries.. my goodness, they're really garlicky and very yummy when we dip it in chipotle aioli.
If X Bar can talk, I bet it will scream (or cry?) begging young, trendy and hip people to check it out.
What can Brown do for YOU?
So X Bar finally opened last night. Â The waitresses all have these weird brown uniforms which look way too frumpy for a supposedly hip place like X Bar (my friend Mikey aptly dubbed them UPS workers). Â UPS costumes notwithstanding, X Bar has potential. Â The decor is cool and there's a large outdoor patio area with comfy chaises/loungers and a fire pit. Â The service is very good, the waitresses are thoughtful although admittedly they're still trying to memorize the array of drinks on the menu.
The drinks themselves are great; the Pears and Mango cocktail is out of this world, and the crab dip app is awesome. Â
Overall thumbs up for X Bar; the only reason it didn't get more stars is that the clientele has to develop more. Â I don't think they advertised the opening adequately so there wasn't the young trendy turnout we were expecting, especially considering that CAA is across the street and all the Ari Gold wanna-bes have no doubt been salivating for a new after-work watering hole to see and be seen.
