Maybe I am just getting too old for bars or maybe this place does suck. Â I just want to sit down and enjoy a nice meal and a craft beer or two. Â Is that too much to ask for? Â
This place attracts the young & dumb who just want to get smashed and start a fight. Â If you have read the news recently then you already know about the dude who got convicted of punching a guy so hard it put him in a coma.
A friend and I went here to see his friend perform with her band. Â Even though we got there at 8:00 (2 hours before showtime), we still had to shell out a $7 cover. Â (Yes, I know a cut of the cover goes to the performer...) Â
The bartenders were relatively friendly, though we couldn't help but be distracted by bartender whose, ehm, goodies were all up in our faces. I'm sure she made the most tips. :) Â Beer was typically priced. Â
The bathrooms were clean, though only ONE blowdryer in the women's bathroom was worth using (vortex-style; the rest are old and take fo'eva'). Â
The stage is small (I've seen smaller I suppose) and the acoustics were alright.
The place got packed around 10, and there really was no good room to stand in view of the stage without being in foot traffic. Â I was bumped several times by staff - some with apologies but many without. Â Since I'm honestly not a country fan, people-watching became the primary activity. Â There were many-a plaid shirts, a few Ed Hardies, and (sadly) only one guy donning a hat and boots. Â
If YOU end up being dragged here by a friend, at least there will be mildly amusing (or, depending on your POV, arousing) eye candy.
Delicious food, especially the spinach and artichoke dip. Came with a group of friends for the karaoke and $3 you call its, (including top shelf) and it did not disappoint! The DJ was great with the music and karaoke and even bought my friends and I a shot because we would fill in if it got slow :)
Review Source:I love my wife.
My wife has lots of friends. Â She loves her friends.
Her friends have kids who they love.
One of those kids decides to be in a band. Â The band gets booked at 191 South. Â The band needs supporters.
Are you seeing where this is going? Â Yeah, yours truly ended up at 191 South. Â I am definitely not a groupie, too many aches and pains to be a roadie and way to old to fit in with this crowd. Â
It was noisy, crowded and how many cokes can you drink standing around waiting to go home? Â How many sets shows support?
Good news: Â one set showed support and we got in without paying cover. Â Then, we got to go home. Â
My wife loves me. Â All in all not a bad night, once I was home.
Worst place ever!  This place is not stop idiots and fights.  I have been there a few times, every time more begrudgingly than the last.  It was ok on a Sunday or sat afternoon for a benefit but every Friday or Saturday night it is to be avoided.  I never really ate the food.  The bar is packed and it is difficult to get a drink, even if you have an opening at the bar the bartenders are busy over serving everyone else.  On a Saturday  you will almost certainly find a fight as the place is full of guys looking to start one.
Review Source:Full Disclosure: I'm giving it 2 stars because I was able to hide behind a well placed house plant directly in front of the women's bathrooms and jump out to scare girls as they walked in (got some of it on video).
Otherwise, this place would defo be gettin' the 2 Star Two Step... even though it did remind me of the movie 8 mile, which I'm not ashamed at admit I mildly enjoyed... to a point (Basinger booty!).
From the looks of things, it's a great place for the locals kids to get loaded and act a fool on the, erm, karaoke (???) mic. I say that with question marks only because I don't think it was so much karaoke as a bunch of white kids (Danus and I were some of the oldest peeps in here... by about a decade, give or take) trying to rap OVER the already fully dubbed 'Forgot About Dre' track. I found myself pondering a question I seem to pondering all too often these crazy days- "Is this real life?" Â - - - I videotaped this as well, still debating its YouTube post-ability - - -
If you like dark comedies and can appreciate the humor of a buncha youngins' in John Deer clothing singing to Britney Spears' 'Not That Innocent', you'll be able to find yourself a decent enough time here for at least 30-40 minutes... if not, I suggest hiding behind a plant and jumping out at chicks before they head to the crapper. #BornEntertainer
Would I come back here if I had to pay even a penny for cover? Hellz Naw.
Would I make this a destination bar when heading to the South suburbs? Hellz Naw.
Woud I come back here to scare the sh*t out of people going in and out of the women's bathroom? Hellz to the Yes!
You make your own fun, folks.
Oh, Mokena.
Stay classy Y'all.
Was looking for some pre-holiday shenanigans and came here with a friend last Friday. We enjoyed the pizza and several martini's. Our waiter, Collin, was awesome. He was very personable and fun and made sure our drinks were what we wanted and expected. The pizza was decent for bar food.
The band was supposed to go on at 9 - since we were there early, we didn't have to pay a cover to hear them. The band didn't start until almost 9 and they were fairly unmemorable.
The place definitely filled up fast!
I'd go back. It's a bar with decently priced drinks and food, simple enough.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have ever had. Â The people that work here are rude and unwelcoming. Â This place is also a scam. Â They will send you emails or advertise other ways their specials for the week only to tell you that they are discontinued when you show up. Â Even if you call ahead to check on the specials, they will magically disappear by the time you get there. Â Cocksuckers.
Review Source:This review is for the bar and the live entertainment (been here twice)
Great place to hang if you like to dance or just chill to live cover bands. Yes, agree that 191 has a diverse crowd made up of 20, 30, 40, and 50 something's
Also agree that 99% of the people here are locals that just enjoy hanging out (nothing wrong with that)
--Always have good cover bands Fri/Sat  (if you don't like cover bands, I wouldn't waste your time coming) Â
--Think the cover is always around $5 (after 10ish?)
--Easy to get a beer (they do have beer tub girls)
--Dance floor always pack with people just have a good time!!
--Yes, there can be strange dudes just standing along the wall eyeing up the ladies on the dance floor (LOL)
--Main bar has tons of TV Â (It's the Southside so tons of Sox/Hawks fans)
--Agree that the main bar dose get packed (TV's) but the place is big so there's always room in the very back bar
--Walk in with the right attitude and you'll have fun (again it's a local bar in the south burbs)
--If you're pulling out of the parking lot late, be very careful, cops just looking to pull people over
I went here for 2010 Halloween and left after 2 drinks. Â I can't even begin to tell you how bad this place is. Â It's a typical suburban bar full of regulars who are community college dropouts and workout a lot to make up for their stupidity. Â It's scary that this place even has regulars.
Creeps: Yes, and far too many. Â I was here with my girlfriend and one of her friends, and just about every guy here would just sit and stare at them, with the most disgustingly perverted look on their faces. Â And the sad thing is, some of these guys were in their 40's and 50's.
If you're in the area (stuck in the burbs), you'll probably end up here at least once, being that it's one of the few larger bars in the area.
The service here sucks too - bartenders need to spend less time talking to regulars and more time serving drinks.
P.S. This place blows.
Ughhh. Avoid this place at all costs.. It's the place all the locals go because they are too afraid to drive more than two blocks to have a good time and it's one of the only surviving bars in the area. If you've been here once you've been here 1000 times.
The bands they book here are lame cover bands that are Bret Michaels look-a-likes. If you are into that stuff good luck hearing them on the crap sound system. Â The female bartenders and beer tub servers are bitches. If you are also female you will most likely get a "who farted?" stare when you walk in. Tons of creepos, always crowded, always fights, and you will most likely get a DUI leaving here. Â Don't waste your money on the cover.
My review is only for the bar late night, not food!
After mentally preparing myself for this suurban "club", I entered with low expectations, and an emotion of indifference. Â
I will start with the pros, the layout is cool. Â I would imagine if people were spread out evenly there may have been a lot of room to move and think (however people were crowded around the bar/tvs). The other pro was you could bring your drink outside to have a cigarette. Â
Now for cons,
-$5 cover (better than the $15 cover the weekend before)
-over stuffed with people
-a fight broke out, 2 squad cars came, and the fire marshall said this place was stuffed over capacity.
-long, long bathroom lines (there's an individual unisex bathroom in the back bar and also a "secret bathroom" - as your waiting in line for the unisex bathroom, a "secret" line forms to use the employee bathroom... all the drunks in the secret line claim to know the owner or some worker)
-crappy music (they could probably just turn on the radio)
-noisy and loud
I would never go out of my way to go here, but could see myself ending up here in the future. Â I'm sure a lot of people really dig this place, people seemed dressed to impress on this black Wednesday.
I get their emails re: price rollback menu on Mondays and specials on pizza. Â I called ahead of time on a Monday and asked if it was the correct day for price rollback menu (they said it was). Â We went in at 6:30pm (nobody at front desk, waited 10 min) then went into restaurant area and asked waitress if they were open and if it was price rollback day. Â She said it was. Â We got seated and gave waitress order from price rollback, she goes into kitchen then comes out again and says "Price rollback is cancelled for duration of football season." Â I said "I called earlier and was told over phone price rollback was in effect today." Â She said "sorry." Â Then I was emailed special prices on pizza (2 pizzas for $30 on Fridays). Â I place order (after asking if this special was still in effect), then go in at 6:30 to pick up, and was charged regular price. Â I said "Hey, I got email and was told over phone earlier that on Fridays there is special 2 pizzas for $30). Â The girl says "Oh, we just changed that." Â (Can you say "consumer fraud ripoff bait and switch scheme") Â I asked for manager Matt, and he is never there. Â Stay away unless you want to get conned.
Review Source:What a fooler this place was. Â Our expectations were low and we were also not looking for much---just a quick dinner after a weeknight trap shoot with the guys.
Sitting in the bar area, we were surprised how busy and how diverse the crowd was. Â Lots of Blackhawks fans (the game was on), families, old timers, recent college kids, and throw in a biker group that rolled in during the middle of dinner---they ended up being the most well behaved group in the place!
I will have to say that the gumbo was about the best I have had anywhere in the suburbs of Chicago. Â It was so good, we took home a couple orders to share with the girls at home. Â And they loved it!
I highly recommend the lake perch----excellent flavor, presentation----it was delicious and a dish I will order again.
Nice menu with much of what you would expect for a sports bar/restaurant environment-----plus some more upscale items like entree salads, pasta, etc.
It gets mobbed on weekend evenings so have a reservation, and be prepared to be in a loud place. They have bands and it is a lively atmosphere.
Service could not have been better. Â The staff were friendly, attentive, and nice. Â You can tell they like working here, and it shows in their attitude.
They want you to come back, and we certainly will.
Not a bad place, however I can't comment on the food since we were just in the bar section.
We saw Echos of Pompeii (Pink Floyd cover band) here on Saturday night. For a $5 cover charge we had an awesome time. The sound was really good and we were lucky to find a table.
Our waitress was awesome. Although the place was packed, she was always around to see if we needed refills and wipe our table down in between rounds. She even brought over chairs from the restaurant for a few people who ended up sitting on the ground to watch the band.
Not a bad place. There aren't that many bars in the area and this place is a perfect spot if you don't want to travel far but want to enjoy a night out.
I've been here twice.
The first time, it was decent. The music was loud, and the service was so-so, but the food was OK, and the prices were fair so it wasn't that bad.
The second time was probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant.
We get there (6 of us) and we're sat at this large table. The menu had changed since the last time, so it took us a few minutes. But we were all ready to order before the waitress had even greeted us. It took her a while bring our drinks out, but she was friendly and we were in no hurry so it wasn't a big deal.
First, they served my friend a warm beer. This wouldn't have been an issue if he didn't have to not only argue for another one, but argue to have the warm beer (that he took one sip of) taken off of his bill.
The longest wait was for our food. We waited over an hour for it! The waitress came by our table twice during that time, only to refill the beverages, not really say anything. When asked, she said she would go check on our food...only to seemingly hide for a while. The place was not busy we were one of maybe 8 tables in there.
We knew that something had gone wrong, when the manager came up and offered us all a round of shots on the house. He made it seem like it was for no reason, but I've worked in the restaurant industry long enough to know that they're trying to fix an issue. Still, he wouldn't give us an apology or explanation of why our food was taking so long.
Finally our food comes out......and it wasn't worth the wait. Most of it was cold. What a disappointment. We were all starving though so we ate it without complaining. During the meal everyone orders another round, and the waitress spills one of the beers. Again, the other guy has to ask for a new one, and argue over paying for the spilled one.
Then, we're all finished and the waitress comes by. Asks if we want dessert. Everyone says no. She disappears, and thus begins the waiting game again for our checks.
Waiting....
Waiting....
Waiting....
Finally, she brings them. No thank you, or apologizing (we got there right before 6, and left at 8:30...way too long to spend at a restaurant like that!). Â We all pay and leave.
Never ever again.
My husband and I found this on urban spoon! Â We thought we would try it out! Â Our waiter, Erik, was great and full of personality! Â The amount of food we ended up with for the price was more than expected! Â We enjoyed the food as well as the atmosphere! Â My husband being from downtown, found this style atmosphere refreshingly like downtown. Â The beer selections we great. Â The staff was friendly and enjoyable. Â We had a great time and plan to go back soon!
Review Source:What a Fuck hole this place is. Every time I come here it's empty and the service is horrible. We had a table of 12. The server had no other tables. Yet you couldn't find him to save your life. I came late and he just walked right by me. I had to get up and get my own drink and I got another guy one because he was ignoring my side of the table. Good thing I wasn't hungry. He came to fill up one of the ladies iced tea because he saw her counting money. Great, what about the other 2 people that had the same thing? They changed the name and the food. They rolled back the prices. But they kept the same ass-lick servers. At a minimum our tab would have been double what it was. I suggested this place and it's the third and last time this group gets together here.
Review Source:Well, I went back. They are offering a good special Sunday-Thursday roll back prices on select menu items. 80's prices and 09 portions. I had the pork chops 2- 16oz grilled. They were huge and pretty good. I was surprised. And the price was only $8.75 great deal. The roll back menu offers plenty of good deals with a variety of foods to choose from chicken, ribs, perch, ribeye and more. Prices all range from 5.75 to 13.75 (8oz filet). Good way to get business in a tuff economy. The problem they have is the service. Our first server was not bad but short memory. After eating we moved to the back to join some friends and What The!!! This dude serving was a mess. I ordered a beer as did others. Then that was it I think he had limited us to 1 beer each. When he decided to come by never asked if we would like another. 15 people sitting in a bar wanting to drink but. I do not know what to say. The chops were good, Service is awful.
Review Source:Lets just say that I actually liked this bar when it was Murphy's. The food used to be good. Unfortunately, the two things that they changed (the name and the food) suck! I just got back from a trip to 191 South. The service was mediocre, but the food is what I came to complain about. I had the broccoli cheddar soup (which I cannot stop burping up). It may as well have been called the salt lick. This soup reeked of salt and tasted even worse. It was probably one of the saltiest soups I have ever had. For dinner, my boyfriend and I both had burgers. He got the guacamole burger while I got a bacon cheddar burger. First of all, his guacamole was dispensed from a bottle into a cup. You could tell by looking at the shape of it. He said that it tasted very generic. Both of our burgers were coated in grease. They were so greasy that we both left still smelling of grease. I became rather ill after leaving there and am unfortunately still ill. Needless to say 191 just lost our business.
Review Source:This used to be Murphys, and is now owed by the people who own Jenny's steakhouses. Â This is a fun place to watch the game, with a pretty good crowd as far as the area goes. Â Beer selection and food are just ok. Â They have a small pool table in a room that is too small to play pool. Â Staff also just ok. Â They have live entertainment on the weekends, but I must be getting old, as I have no interest in seeing bar bands and have not been on these days.
