Maybe I haven't given this place enough of a chance. Â The Yelp community obviously adores it and it's been a mainstay of my neighborhood for far longer than I've been here. Â But I've been twice and both times I was exceptionally underwhelmed with what I had. Suffice to say, the amazingly stylized cakes in the window project a false image of quality that I've found unmatched by the stuff they make that's actually edible.
Review Source:I love this place!
Their red eye (coffee with a shot of espresso) is really tasty. Their cake pops are the greatest dessert ever made and their mini-cheesecakes are just SOOO delicious.
The only thing I've ever ordered from here that I did not enjoy was their frosted sheet cookies which are quite dry. Other than that, this place knocks it out of the park!
I've always loved Alliance Bakery but my last visit there was less than stellar. My sister and I, pleasant and polite people that we are, arrived and attempted to make our usual complimentary small talk with the staff as we looked at all the treats and placed our orders. We didn't expect to be met with eye rolling, impatient sighs and complete lack of verbalization..it was pretty uncomfortable. We felt as though we were bothersome and barely tolerable to Alex, who seems to possess an encyclopedia of dirty looks and aloof mannerisms meant to make customers feel like shit for the mere crime of placing an order or complimenting the pretty cakes. My sister, watching this dramatic display of his, (loudly) told me to just yelp it. Alex then slammed my package down on the counter in front of me and stalked off with a smirk.
When I opened the little box with the tiny, beautiful cake inside I brought home for my daughter, I found it was placed in the box on it's side, and I'm sure the slamming didn't help matters, either. It was a mound of goo rather than it's original, perfectly decorated self. My daughter and I enjoyed the sloppy deliciousness of it anyway (God it was good!) but it was just unreasonable callousness for Alex to do such a thing.
As lovely as the bakery treats are (and we've also ordered cakes for many occasions over the years) I won't be going back again. Sorry Alliance, your customer service is atrocious.
