Terrible service! I ate there this evening and was really looking forward to a good beef sandwich and fries.
The person that took my order was not helpful, did not ask if it was for 'here or to go' and she just assumed it was to go. I had to ask twice for the drink cup I paid for. The sandwich was good, but the fries were cold. I will not be back.
This location just opened, and after two visits on opening weekend, I'm left feeling conflicted. On one side, Al's is in Wicker Park, and for that I am grateful. But they really need to improve for me to keep coming back.
On both occasions, the food was fairly solid, something you really worry about from a franchise like Al's. there's too much inconsistency in the Al's franchise, but this location seems to be suffering from lack of training.
The employees are friendly, but not very knowledgable at this point. They didn't seem to know which salad dressings were which, and were giving to go orders out of sequence, despite ordering the same thing. (Both my brother and I each ordered  a beef and they gave me mine before his, even though he ordered first). Also, no one else was waiting for their food, and we still waited 12 minutes for our food. Inexcusable wait time for that simple of an order.
This place really gets about 2.5 stars, but you can't give a half star on yelp. I will definitely be back, assuming management steps it up.
SLOW SERVICE! I'm pretty happy this is in the 'hood, but hurry it up guys, took 12 mins for a beef and salad! Order numbers are coming out in an order that makes no sense.
Place is pretty nice and clean, unlike the traditional Taylor Street location. Food is always good and they have a lot more on the menu than I remembered (5 salads, 9 burgers, 5 chicken sandwiches, and 9 types of fries). The Chopped salad is pretty good but is obviously lacking compared to Portillos.
They have some efficiency issues to work out but that is to be expected when a place first opens.
