Went for Valentine's, which for my wife and I happened to be on 2/13, Â as a school function interferrred with the day of 2/14. Â Sadly, "we don't have any specials tonite because we are getting ready for Valentine's day tomorrow" was the theme of the evening. Â Our waitress was the greeter, waitress, busboy and everything in between, and while a fast mover, she was stretched. Â When inquiring about items on the menu, we got several scruntched noses and "that's not my favorite"...I think she was telling the truth. Â Really nice atmosphere, although we sat near the front windows and while it wasn't very cold outside, we were certainly cold inside, so much so that we spoke to the table next to us and comisserated our situation.
Food was unremarkable. Â Overall, just an OK experience. Â Had a Martini and it was quite small, but maybe that's just the normal city fare.
The best part of the eveing was that when I booked it on Open Table, I was offered the option to have flowers waiting at the table, I clicked OK, and they were the highlight of the evening. Â To say that my wife loved them is an understatement, so guys, take my advice and order flowers waiting at the table at least once, just maybe not at this place.
So, oddly enough, the woman working at the bar playing with the computer, never seemed to lift a finger to help our waitress, maybe she'd been at the restaurant since 5:00 AM, but to the guests, it appeared odd. Â Maybe she should work on the computer in the back room.
Overall, not bad, but not great. Not expensive, and well worth it.
Not very impressed with the service or the food. Â Waitress did not write down our order and subsequently forgot my dinner, had to return for me to repeat it. Â She seemed overloaded with tables. Â Asked my boyfriend if he knew what he was ordering, which kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Â How about just explaining the dish?
Rabbit ravioli app had delicious filling but was overly dough or too thick. Â I ordered the pork chop for dinner. Â When we received our meals the pork chop was raw inside. Â I sent it back. Â
In the mean time we split my boyfriend's meal. Â Which is fine, but would have been a better dining experience to eat at the same time. Â When my plate came back the waitress offered us free dessert or a round of drinks (although we were not drinking). Â She commented that she told the chef we were not drinking and speculated that either I was pregnant (I am a slim 125 pounds BTW) or my boyfriend could be in AA. Â Excuse me?!?
I tasted the brussel sprouts and nearly broke a tooth they were so undercooked. I could barely cut one with a steak knife. Â The pork was delicious, I will give them that. Â However I was not about to send my meal back again and wait more. Â Also, the waitress had cleared my boyfriend's place and took all his silverware so we had to share a fork to split my meal. Â When the waitress returned we pointed out the brussel sprouts problem and she couldn't cut one open either. Â We were informed there was a new cook and that he probably wouldn't be back. Â
Now, I will say that the restaurant did the right thing by comping my entire meal and offering a free dessert. Â However on the whole this was not a pleasant dining experience. Â I wouldn't go back. Â Also, as an aside, we overheard the waitress apologizing to two other tables.
We went to Aquitaine for Restaurant Week. For our first course my husband had the mussels and I had the spinach and chicken crepe. Both were good, but not outstanding, the crepe had nothing about it that made it stand out, it was mediocre.
For entrees he had the pork shoulder, which was very tender and the sauce was good, but if the shoulder wasn't in the sauce it didn't have a ton of flavor. I had the Duck Breast which was also good, not blow your socks off, but good. I didn't enjoy the celeriac mash, but that is probably because I am not a huge fan of celery.
My husband had creme brulee for dessert, good not the best I have ever had. Had a decent amount of flavor, needed to be just a touch thicker in consistency. The stand out of the meal was the Amber Cake that I ordered for dessert, it was so good I would go back just for that. The layers of flavor and texture were out of this world. But I would probably go back just for that.
The wait staff was friendly and welcoming. The overall ambiance was nice, it was great for a quiet date night with my hubby for his birthday.
