Avel Restaurant & Lounge

The Avel Lounge located out in Astoria Queens is the next big thing with their Red Carpet Fridays and is the next hottest night club around. Ladies and Gentlemen come on out every Friday to the Avel Lounge which is strictly for the brown and sexy.
It's a great spot where you can host your parties and all of your exclusive events and it has a great food menu with plenty of space and a nice sized dance floor and bar, it's a great place to party and mingle.

Location is everything, regarding Avel.  It's just too far away.  For subway going folks, which is most of NYC, it's a 15 minute hike from the end of the N/Q at Astoria/Ditmars.  And that's a hike through broken sidewalks, empty Four Loko cans, and abandoned construction projects.  If you have a car... maybe.  But otherwise you can find comparable club experiences much closer to wherever you are.

As for the club itself, it seems to be trying to re-create the nineties.  The interior decor, with it's lit-from-below dark wood panels against deep blue background, neon lighting, and chrome highlights evokes my sense of nostalgia for Ace of Bass.  Their focus on bringing back the concept of bottle service pushes their nineties feel even further.  I can't help but feel that last touch is misguided.  Anyone who will order bottle service, read as anyone with a corporate expense account, is definitely not going to be this far out from Manhattan.

The bartenders and serving staff were all incredibly photogenic, if not a little brusque in their demeanor.

The final word?  Too little, too far.

Down a road that looks like downtown Baghdad, you'll find Avel.  Generic music that you hear everywhere, and the mixes were not even well done.  Don't waste your time here.
