This is the place to get pizza in Indiana. I realize that regional pizza tastes vary, but basically this is very good pizza, it appears to be well run, the wait staff has been accommodating to our families. With good weather the patio can be a lot of fun, it faces a quiet one-way street with the canal located beyond. Â Summer, Hennepin, trying a new pizza on the patio at B-beaux, perfect
Review Source:Bazbeaux is an Indy legend...yadda...yadda. We've all heard of these Indy legends, but seriously you are a DUNCE if you do not eat at Bazbeaux. When craving a pizza, and not just any pizza, Bazbeaux is the place to shove pizza right into your face. With almost any topping you can imagine, the Bazbeaux topping menu is akin to the walls at Applebee's, just chock full of tons of stuff.
Let's be honest, I've never made my own pizza here. With all of the specialty options, I've never needed to. I enjoy the Genova with added goat cheese the most, but then again I'm a sucker for vegetables.
The garlic bread is amazing, (make the Scott Pilgrim garlic bread joke here, it'll make you a better person), and I really enjoy the house salad with house vinaigrette.
Fantastic rotating local beer list and variety of wines.
Hi my wife and I have 2.5 and 3.5 yo kids, and we thought this was a somewhat family friendly place....not even close. Â I used to dine here before moving to California (when it was in a garage across the street). Â I remembered it being a fun vibe. Â No More.
We were sniffed at by the waitstaff (except for one kind heart at the front), I mean I maybe get no crayons or a kid menu. Â Fine you are attempting to attract a hipster crowd, but the tepid attitude towards the kids and our limited requests don't cut it.
Though on a bright note the Pizza was really good, I'll not be returning.
This place was a solid three star A-OK for me.
I love the outdoor terrace seating... it's lovely when the weather is good.
We got the Fresh Mozzarella Plate as an app... this was amazing! The ingredients were sooo fresh!
The 3 stars is for the pizza.... it was very disappointing. Maybe we didn't order the right stuff? We got a large Chilope and split it. I like mine loaded with toppings.... this pizza had the base of a large and toppings for a small pizza.
I will definitely come back and try something else.
The pizzas here are probably the best in Indy. They have lots of unique topping combinations, but I like the quattro formaggio. Yeah, I'm boring like that, but it's so good. Also, the cheesy garlic bread is fantastic.
The staff is always friendly and the service is great. Getting take out from there is really easy. I've never had to wait more than a couple minutes if I call ahead-- it's always done on time.
While visiting a friend in Indy, he recommended we order Bazbeaux pizza  to wrap up the night's festivities.  I was intrigued by their menu, which seemed equally divided between meat pies and vegetarian pies. I was really  just looking for something with lots of cheese though, so I think we just ended up getting the Pizza Alla Quattro Formaggio with no bacon.  We also got the Fresh Mozzarella Plate and the Garlic Bread with Cheese.  Everything seemed a little bland - not terrific, and I gather that their appeal really lies in the variety of toppings that they offer.
Review Source:I have been to New York, Chicago, SFO,, LA, San Diego, and Indianapolis. I have spent a lot of time in Los Angeles and New England.
I have had all the famous pizza styles, New York, Chicago, New Haven, California, and classic Italian. Bazbeaux in Indy still ranks among the best places I have had pizza.
I can't believe I haven't written a review for Bazbeaux yet!! This is one of my number one recommendations to people when they ask me where to eat. Â I have yet to meet someone who hasn't enjoyed their Bazbeaux experience. Â
Let's go through course by course. Â I like to start with a salad. Â I usually choose the spinach salad and remove the bacon and egg. Â Also, you should try the creamy cucumber dressing which is delicious.
Now, if you're feeling really hungry, I would opt for the cheesy garlic bread. Â If you're not that hungry, just skip ahead to the pizza. Â
For one, they have SOOO many kinds of pizzas. Â If you can't find a pizza you like, you are officially the pickiest person in the world. Â I will say that I don't love their bbq chicken pizza but there are lots of other options. Â You can't go wrong with the Bazbeaux special. Â My roommate and I LOVE the garden pizza. Â I also love the Firenze pizza. Â My other roommate is more of a traditionalist and goes for the pepperoni. Â Â
Other nice things about Bazbeaux, they have a deck out front and a secret deck upstairs!! Â They have wine and beer (though I would opt for a beer...the wine isn't anything to write home about). Â And they can split the bill between multiple people without creating a fuss about it. Â What more could you want?
For what it's worth, I think Bazbeaux offers some of the best pizza toppings in Indy. The crust is a non-factor in their pizza... more of a carrier for the toppings than anything else... but oh the choices! The Margherita and Basilica pizzas are my favorites here. I've tried a few others and was pleased, but I really can't get enough of the Basilica pizza. They've recently changed the menu to reflect "Meat Pies" and "Vegetarian Pies," which I really appreciate. Not that reading the menu is tough to do, but sometimes you can get lost in the options and this just makes it easier. Good pizza, great service, and a good beer selection - thumbs up!
Review Source:I had the opportunity to drop into Bazbeaux's a few days ago and, wow, what a surprise! I had heard epic tales of the variety that exists in their salad menu, something that is an undeniable rarity in this town, and those tales were certainly true. I sampled two of the salads and took a pizza to-go and was, much to my dismay however, disappointed in all of the above. Though the restaurant, bar and patio give off a wonderful vibe, the food did not do the same for me. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather eat at Bazbeaux's than any other pizza joint; I just won't be going out of my way to sample everything on the menu, in hopes of finding something to meet the expectation.
Review Source:I don't get what all the fuss is about. Â I agree with several of the reviewers who stated that Bazbeaux seems to be overrated. Â
My boyfriend and I ordered a pizza from Bazbeaux last week, and I was pretty underwhelmed. Â We got a sausage pizza with mushrooms, and it was incredibly bland. Â Not enough sauce? Â Not enough seasoning? Â I couldn't put my finger on it, but it was disappointing. Â
I've eaten at the Bazbeaux downtown, and the reaction from my group wasn't much different. Â Pizza is "okay", but who wants their meal to be just "okay"? Â I won't be giving this place another try anytime soon.
I CAN'T STAND THIS PLACE! First of all, the pizza: it is just terrible. The crust is dry and coarse - it will suck all the life and saliva out of your mouth leaving you with a powdery coating all around your face. The toppings are below average and old-tasting, the sauce is abysmal, and the last time I was there (within 1 month), the cheese wasn't even reminiscent of traditional mozzerella. The only time I have ever found the food here edible is after I've drenched it with ranch dressing, salt, and pepper.
Second, the service is just as bad, if not worse than the pizza itself. I took maybe 2 bites of my entire pizza, completely dissatisfied, and each time our waitress came by, she never bothered to ask me how my food was or offer a replacement. I can understand not wanting to take a pizza off the tab because it will lower your tip at the end of the night, but you will get a better tip from me for doing your job well than just by ignoring the obvious problem on the table.
For GOOD pizza, stay home and order Marco's. Do not waste your money at Bazbeaux.
Bazbeaux is an absurdly overrated business with few redeeming qualities. It's easy to spot people who don't love pizza, because they relentlessly fetishize this place.
When you go to bazbeaux, you're not really getting pizza. You're getting a bunch of novelty toppings and eating them with crackers and melted cheese. That's a much more accurate description of what Bazbeaux is all about. If you want to order a bunch of crazy, overpriced toppings with sauce, cheese, and an overly cracker-like crust, by all means. Personally, I'd rather eat real pizza.
I love the patio in the summer. I love the snowflake decorations in the winter. I love the way the place is looks in general. I love that I never run out of water and the servers are super attentive. And of course, I love the pizza. My favorite is spinach, shrimp, feta, on pesto, whole wheat crust, although I often branch out to other things.
The only thing I hate? Eating here with a boring food person, who says "Let's just get pepperoni." THIS ISN'T DONATOS!!! Why would you eat something you can have anywhere when there's pesto, feta cheese, oysters, crawdads, shrimp, spinach, eggplant...just about anything one could want on a pie! Have an adventure when you eat, not just a repeat of yesterday.
If Bazbeaux was in a different city, this would probably be a 1-star, or 2-star review. Â How much you enjoy it all depends on your definition of good pizza. Â If you normally eat Papa John's or Pizza Hut, this place will probably seem like the bee's knees. Â
However, if your standard for pizza is high, and you are used to being within an arms reach of great Neapolitan style pizza, you will be sorely disappointed.
The best  part of the pizza is the wide variety of toppings.  It's not just limited to meat and veggies but also a cacophony of choices not seen at your local Domino's.  The worst part of Bazbeaux is the most important part of a pizza: Crust.  The pizza is baked on a screen so the crust never has a chance to crisp and develop the same way a wood, coal, or traditional gas oven would. Â
If someone else is paying I wouldn't mind going back. Â However, with great new spots like Pizzology popping up, I would seek out other options for the cost.
Bazbeaux is very good. Doesn't blow my mind or anything, but if you want a quality pizza that expertly culls from various traditions, and especially if you bring a group big enough to sling a few pies across the table, I will not point you elsewhere.
The pizza itself seems to embody a generalized American approach: crust is crisp but not exactly "thin", toppings are neither heaped nor applied with any sort of restrained elegance. It's not Chicago, not New York, not Naples. The standard four cheese pizza involves bacon. Now THAT'S amore American!
And each compenent is quite tasty. The aforementioned Quattro Formaggio shows off its cheeses well, featuring creamy blobs of ricotta and a generous sprinkle of bacon for added fattiness and texture. Actually, it's really not worth going into too much detail. Read the menu, imagine a very tasty rendition of what you're reading, and you will not be disappointed, or enraptured.
One thing about the Broad Ripple location, at least, is that there are no beers on tap. Â This is definitely a bit behind the times in Indy's current invigorated craft beer climate. Â Sure you can get some decent bottles, but no fresh Indiana beer on tap in a restaurant-style pizza joint? A strike.
An Indy staple. Whether you're visiting or living here, you can't beat it.
With a large selection of choices and ingredients, Bazbeaux can compare to any Chicago pizza place (IMO--native Indy gal turned Chicagoan). I don't have a favorite, because I love all of the pizzas. I'm pretty sure I've tried them all, even the eggplant (no cheese on it).
They are great with catering, too. The upstairs in the summer is fantastic. They serve great beer and have a couple other locations too, to my surprise.
Any vegetarian or meat lover will find what they want here. Portions are big, keep that in mind.
You can't go wrong with Bazbeaux's Pizza. It's a must if you live or just visiting Indy. I believe they have 3 locations. Downtown, Broad Ripple and Carmel. This visit was to Broad Ripple.
The pizza is always amazing with eclectic twist to the atmosphere. They have specialty pizza and create your own. I selected the Bazbeaux special and added prosiecutto. Went with the thin and wheat crust. The wheat crust has a better flavor then the regular crust. Bazbeaux's is always one of the top pizza places to eat in Indy. They also have a lot of different beers you won't find in most pizza joints. Outstanding!
Bazbeaux's is a great go-to if:
- You already already happen to be in Broad Ripple and get hit with the craving for pizza (that is one level up from Hot Box)
- You are a Butler student wanting pizza that is, again, not Hot Box or Papa John's and are willing to drive 5 minutes for pick up
- You're not in a time crunch, as there's often a wait and the service can take a minute
I'm pretty sure I ate Bazbeaux's at least twice a month while I was at Butler, but reflecting back, I'm confident that had more to do with my now former meat eating love affair with the Quattro and its proximity to campus.
The dining room at this location is a little bit cramped for my liking, and could use some better lighting. Â Service is average (smack in the middle of !OMGAMAZING! & boohisss), and while the experience is not awful, I'll be sticking with Some Guys down the road.
I have lived in New York, Chicago, Providence, and Indianapolis. I have spent a lot of time in Los Angeles and New England. I have had all the famous pizza styles, New York, Chicago, New Haven, California, and classic Italian. Bazbeaux in Indy still ranks among the best places I have had pizza. I first started going when they were operating out of the little house/restaurant in Broadripple up the road from their current place.
Bazbeaux's is consistently wonderful. Great standard pizzas and their specialty pizzas are off the charts (TCHOUPITOULAS I am looking at you, oh and you too Margherita)
I am not entirely sure about the sub 4 star ratings. One guy complains that it is loud and his water cup was small and a few people just inexplicably don't like it without explanation. A couple people mention other places, Some Guys, Puccinis, etc. these I highly recommend but Bazbeaux is the tops.
I really don't think you can get better pizza in Indianapolis.
The crust is perfect, almost like a cracker. If you are a fan of true Italian style pizza, this is the place for you! What makes the pie so great is the high quality toppings and ingredients, it really does make a difference.
I used to work in the building that houses Bazbeaux in Broad Ripple when it was the NUVO office back in the early 2000s. Ten year's later I finally got to this location of the popular Indy pizza gurus.
I'm a huge fan of the Mass Ave location. It's just as great in Broad Ripple. Our service was excellent. We had a group of 10 people and our service was great, fast and super friendly. Their specialty pizzas are amazing. I highly recommend the Garden and the BBQ chicken! Oh and don't forget the Pesto Bread!
I don't like pizza. I never crave it, and always find something else to eat on the menu when everyone goes out for pizza.... So....Giving a pizza place 4 stars is unheard of for me. And when going to Bazbeaux, I actually do order the pizza. I typically order the quattro formaggio - but lately I have been building my own as it's more cost efficient to choose a few toppings I would not normally get than choosing one of their specialty pizzas.
My last one was a 7 inch cheese+ricotta cheese+mushrooms+half advocado abd half artichoke hearts. Delicious! You can see whole tomato chunks in their sauce, the crust is thin, light, a little sweetness, the ingredients were all fresh. I especially like when pizzerias put on fresh mushrooms! Yum! Â
I also love the spinach salad with ranch. It comes with bacon (which I get on the side and add to my dining companion's pizza because I can do without it), eggs, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and onions and olives which I leave off too. The cheese bread is also delicious.
They have pretty decent priced beers and a huge selection to choose from. Â Also, I get the small pizza and can barely finish half so if I don't share it I always have leftover for another meal so it makes the meal pretty reasonably priced even with salad and cheese bread. You are looking at about 10-13 for a pizza.
Reasons why it did not get 5 stars: The wait staff is not always attentive. The bar is not a true bar, and there were no tvs to even catch scores of any of the games were the downfall. Also they have 3 restaurants one in Carmel, one in broad ripple, and one off of Mass Ave downtown. Â This Broad Ripple location moved in the past couple years from it's small house across the street and has lost part of its unique charm! Â There was hardly anyone in the restaurant when we went on a Thursday night before the Colts and Butler play. Â A lot of the restaurants were packed up and down the strip. Â Usually the downtown one is pretty full on a weekday lunch so be prepared to wait for a table mostly on a nice day.
It's just the best pizza ever. Â The cheesy bread is knock out too.
Sitting outside on a gorgeous summer day, people watching, and drinking a few beers...all some of my favorite things that I get to enjoy here at Bazbeaux.
Most of the time I get a waiter or waitress that is at least a little interested in what is going on, but last time the girl was the pits.
Hey not a bad selection of specialty pizza! Â Perhaps it was because I was starving...but I don't normally eat 5 slices of pizza (*blush*). Â We ordered:
HAWAIIAN: i liked the addition of green peppers!
GENOVA: my fave, first time ever seeing eggplant on a pizza!
GREEK: well received at the table
I liked the crust--not too thin, not too thick. Â A little heavy on the cheese side but i guess it is pizza and that's natural. Â I liked the atmosphere and the fact that our waiter took the order by memory...true pizza pro. Â Cool place.
I lived in Indy for 18 years and can confirm that this is DEFINITELY the best pizza in town! Â They serve thin crust gourmet pizza with a variety of toppings, including some interesting choices such as snow crab, pea pods, capers, anchovies, prosciutto, and about eight types of cheese. Â There salads are great and they make some mean sandwiches (go for the Stromboli or Muffaletta).
I worked in the kitchen here for a few years, so I have some fun facts that most people don't know:
- Â Peyton Manning eats here regularly
- Â The crust is homemade everyday (white and wheat)
- Â The cheese is grated fresh everyday (fontina + mozzarella)
- Â A TON of the ingredients are imported from Italy (olive oil, etc.)
- Â The dining room of the original Bazbeaux Broadripple was a garage
Anyways, even when I worked here six days a week, I never got tired of eating their pizza and garlic bread. Â You can't go wrong with the special, margarita, quattro, or chilope.
Good night this place is good! All the food is nummy, especially the pizza. Whew...I get hot just thinking about it. Also, they have probably my favorite Antipasto salad around. Whenever I'm home in Indy, I always include a trip to Bazbeaux.
One thing though...I don't know if it's something in the water or what, but every server I've had here has been kind of a doucheschnozzle.
We popped into Bazbeaux on Friday for lunch. Â I'd heard this was the "best pizza in Indy". Â
If that's the best Indy has to offer, I am a little sad. Â Don't get me wrong, it was fine pizza. Â I ordered a pepperoni with mushrooms and garlic, and Aaron got the hawaiian. Â Both were solid pizzas. Â I wasn't feeling adventurous enough to try some of the "exotic" options. Â However, the pizza didn't blow my mind the way that Giordano's or some of the other pizza places I've eaten have.
I've since been told that the Margherita is something to try, and I'm thinking maybe next time we'll order the wheat crust.
I will say that the cheesy garlic bread was pretty fantastic. Â The service was also very good, especially for coming in only 15 minutes after they opened for the day.
Absolutely worth all the hype it's given.
This is truly some of the best pizza I've had. Â They have tons of pizzas with unusual combinations. Â The crust is great, and the cheese is absolutely perfect.
The patio in the summer is absolutely ideal. Â The service is always solid, and it always has a great energy to it.
Quite simply the best pizza I ever had while living in Indy. Perfect crust, creative toppings & sauces - sandwiches were great too...true New Orleans style as I remember...and all of that at a good price as well.
I personally saved this place from going under back in '87 as well. A long story but ultimately they stayed and as you can see/as you well know a hugely successful & popular place NOW.  Next time I'm in the ol' Circle City, I want to check out the downtown location. Anyway,  I'm very proud and hey - if you  Bazbeaux owners ever want to open another branch in San Diego, I'm there!
Hands-down one of the best places to eat pizza in Indy, with a large patio to boot. The medium-density crust is loaded with gooey cheese and tons of toppings. Choices are diverse. The Neptune has snow pea pods, crab, shrimp and black olives; the Bayou Chicken, roasted red pepper and Cajun chicken. But my favorite is the Firenze, dripping with pesto sauce, laden with sun-dried tomatoes, shrimp, and the regular goodies.
The salads are good, too. I wasn't expecting a small meal when I ordered the antipasto salad with shrimp, salami, artichoke hearts, hearts of palm and more, but that's what I got--for $4.25.
Pie prices may be a little steeper than you're used to, but this clearly isn't Domino's. No on-tap beer in the middle of Broad Ripple, the land of tapped beer, but they have a decent selection of bottles.
Crust is light, airy, cracker-like at times, and tasteless. Toppings are good. Crust/sauce/toppings work well with some combinations but not others. Quattro is good, as is the employee-created (no credit given) Chilope. Really not sure what the fuss is about, plus the ownership leaves much to be desired.
Go to Some Guys (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.someguyspizza.com%2F&s=277bfc1fb72724acc8a9ec745c80b556ee1b2329d14704162dfad26fcaef48a3" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.someguyspizza…</a>) or Jockamo's (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jockamopizza.com%2F&s=8e9d3756f7f194b37a2b044e612eb47b7f90ba33e2a7e432dc837d557e08fec0" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.jockamopizza.…</a>) to get similar but better - those two are owned/run by Bazbeaux alums. So is Puccini's (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.puccinissmilingteeth.com%2F&s=fff224d63fec9a625e8139485b3ca0c2e7d8b6ccadad1a9f6ad28f4373aeca8f" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.puccinissmili…</a>), whose pizza is a different recipe but I find the best of the bunch. With these three places, Bazbeaux is no longer relevant.
I grew up in Indy, and of all the great city restaurants, Bazbeaux is the one that I miss the most. They do a fantastic thin crust pizza that I just can't seem to find in other cities. Plus you can sit outside on an awning-covered patio or up on the roof deck, but be prepared to wait for a table. This place gets crowded with a mix of twentysomethings and young Broad Ripple families.
As for what to order, salads are only O.K. The sauce-less Margherita or Bazbeaux Special (sun-dried tomatoes & garlic) are nice, the Mexican pizzas aren't bad... well I've never been disappointed by any of their 15 or so specialty pies, although I haven't quite tried them all. And for a basic pie, their pepperoni pizza is better than their sausage. Enjoy!
P.S.: The pizza here is better here than at the downtown location.
