I live not too far from this place and I never see anyone in there. Â Always thought it was a front for something other than food. Â My friend really wanted to have dinner there tonight, so I relented. Â I have some strict dietary allergies, but was able to order the Marsala.
Atmosphere: Â Pretty decent. Â Music is cool.
Food: Â Good, surprisingly. Â The Marsala sauce was a little sweet, but all in all it was good. Â The menu says it comes with Broccoli, so I asked for a side of potatoes as well. Â The dish came with one piece of Broccoli. Â
Server:
When I mentioned the discrepancy between what the menu said and what was actually offered to me on my plate, the server told me that sometimes the kitchen runs out of broccoli, so they put mixed vegetables on the plate (nothing wrong with that), but I did point out that it would have been nice to know that.
The server than said that since I was not a regular, how would I know...and if I were to come more often, maybe I would know what came with each dish.
So basically, since I am not a regular, my opinion doesn't count.
Well since my opinion doesn't count....we'll see what Yelp! has to say!
In Chicago with friends when we happened onto Bella Luna on our long walk to Rush Street and were pleasantly surprised. Â It was a beautiful evening and we sat outside, enjoyed a decent meal while being serenaded by a live singer with a very beautiful voice. Â The muscles were overcooked and a bit too spicy, but the rigatoni with chicken was rich and creamy. Â Surprisingly, they did not know how to make a Negroni, but after one quick lesson, they got it right. Â Everyone else's meal was good, but not amazing. Â Stumble upon it and you won't be disappointed, especially if you like Frank Sanatra.
Review Source:Another gem discovered remotely by Fooda when my apt building made arrangements for Bella Luna to setup in the lobby and serve people as they were coming home from work one evening. Â Excellent Italian menu. Â My wife selected the rigatoni with chicken, and I had the chicken parmesan, and as expected for dessert we shared tiramisu. Â When we decide to strike out and find this place in the city I will be on the prowl for their pork chops and their penne calabrese! Â I would definitely recommend to others. Â I'll write back after we actually sit down and eat there.
Review Source:Please note: This review is solely for their pizza.
So my office building has different restaurants come in every day to set up shop in the lobby. It so happened that Bella Luna Cafe is here today and since its their first time here, I thought I'd show some support and try them out. The gentlemen working were very helpful - we even talked a little about Frank Sinatra (they had Pandora playing on their phone). Wasn't fully convinced with their menu, so I opted for their deep dish pepperoni. I figured pizza was a safe bet, there's no way you can make bad pizza. Well, was I wrong... Pizza tasted like cardboard, had no flavor and it was cold. Only hint of flavor it had was from the crushed pepper I added. Hard for me to say this, but I think this is the worst pizza I have ever had (and that includes pizza chain restaurants). Maybe their other food items taste better, who knows. Very disappointed with their pizza, don't see myself visiting their restaurant or recommending this place to anyone else.
Eh.
Had a <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> certificate, so we decided to check out Bella Luna. Â It just wasn't anything that memorable. Â The place was completely empty when we went for dinner on a Tuesday night around 8pm. Â
While our waitress was nice enough, it took way too long to get our food considering we were the only ones in the restaurant. Â We were barely able to choke down the house red while waiting for our pizza, and when that finally arrived, we were disappointed to learn that they used canned peppers on our veggie pizza.
Plenty of better options within a 3 blocks walk, so don't bother with Bella Luna.
I have always wanted to go here because I pass by this place on my way home every night. Last night, I had a taste for chicken marsala. I make a pretty good chicken marsala but because it is time consuming and it was pretty late I decided to order from some place online. My first choice couldn't deliver. So I settled with Bella Luna since it is on my way home. I called and placed my order around 9:20. I stopped by the place at 9:45. They hadn't started preparing my food. I waited at the bar until 10:30 with only an offer for a glass of water. I finally get my food and head home. I open it up and it is just a ton of vegetables with one piece of chicken breast without any marsala wine sauce. It didn't taste like any chicken marsala I have had before. The chicken had taken on the taste of raw green vegetables. Â To top it off the chicken was very dry and the vegetables were flavorless. Â I ended up eating bread for dinner. With the combination of a lengthy wait, bad service, and disgusting food I would never recommend this place to anyone.
Review Source:We always order pizza for the late nights at the office. Delicious, on time and the service is excellent! I feel like I am calling a friend. Last time I got Chris and he even helped me order and suggested a great combination of flavors everyone enjoyed! My guys at the office don't even want to hear about anything else:)
Review Source:Bella Luna is casual Italian dining at it's finest. As someone who has been to Italy and feels they have a good idea of what Italian cuisine is all about, I can highly recommend you check out Bella Luna Cafe. How on Earth this place has less than 5 stars is beyond me.
The food is delicious. On my most recent visit, my boyfriend and I split the bruschetta appetizer, which includes 4 slices of warm, toasted bread topped with tomatoes, fresh garlic, red onions, basil and olive oil. I'm a purist, and I believe bruschetta should never include cheese, and should always be very limited in the ingridents, in order to let the flavors shine. This bruschetta is perfectly seasoned and is exactly how I would make it at home. Next, my boyfriend tried their Soup du Jour, the creamy corn and sausage chowder. Although I stay away from meat, I did sample the corn broth and it was wonderful with a little spice. My soup was the Minestrone, with lots of chunky veggies in a flavorful tomato broth. My entree was the half order of Cavatelli in Vodka Sauce. This was hands down one of the best pasta dishes I've had in a restaurant. The sauce was a perfect blend of creamy and acidic, while the pasta was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Totally delicious, and even a half portion left me with enough to take home. I never eat leftovers, but this dish was an exception.
The service here is great, friendly and prompt. The food takes a bit of time to come out of the kitchen, but I love that, as it leaves me plenty of time to enjoy each course and pace my meal so that I do not leave stuffed. Two can enjoy a 3 course lunch for under $30 and in my opinion, you really can't beat that.
If you want a dirty, dingy, greasy experience look no farther. YUCK. This place needs a pressure washer to clean the grease from the tables and cloth hangings. We went in hungry and left queasy. This would be a good candidate for Restaurant Impossible. Maybe we should visit in the summer so we can stay on the patio. I cannot even tell you about the food since I was so overwhelmed by the disgusting interior. I wonder what the kitchen looks like-no, let's not go there.
Review Source:Had stopped in here for lunch over the summer and ordered Bruschetta, Caprese salad and the Prosciutto with melon. The Bruschetta was ok, the Caprese salad disappointing with inferior mozzarella and pasty tomatoes, but the Prosciutto with melon was a disgrace. Seriously they can't call it prosciutto. It was thick cut dry ham with no flavor, I really could not eat it. I would call it prison issue prosciutto at best.
Keep in mind none of these dishes had to be "cooked", and if they were this bad I can't imagine the cooked foods they serve.
Bella Luna was not on my radar for places to dine at during my stay in Chicago. It was 6:30 pm on the Saturday night before the 2011 Bank of America Chicago Marathon and I was frantically trying to find a place to have a pasta meal -- all the other Italian places were full of marathoners carbing up for Sunday. My girlfriend and I just happened to walk by this place and noticed that it was not busy and the prices on the menu were quite reasonable.
We were seated outside on the patio immediately, which was nice on a warm fall evening. Service here was quick and courteous. However, like others before me have mentioned, I was a little put off by the bus boys hovering around my table waiting to take away dishes and unused condiments.
I started off with the Bruschetta and the House Salad. Both, I would say, were decent. As my main course, I had the Rigatoni with Chicken. It was piping hot and delicious! The portion sizes were pretty good as well. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. It definitely fueled me to run 26.2 miles the next morning!
I don't understand the negative reviews of Bella Luna Cafe. It may not be busy on a Saturday night like the other well-known Italian places in the city, but that doesn't mean the food isn't great here. I would think that would be a positive -- I would rather go to a place that is not busy and be served right away with great food than go to some crowded "big name" place with below average, overpriced food. Bella Luna is a hidden gem in the Windy City.
My boyfriend and I used a <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> coupon and I had been here once before.
The salad was fresh and crispy. Even the bread basket had a huge selection of delicious breads.
We ordered the supreme pizza and a pasta dish to come up to the $35. Both were excellent.
The service was nice as well. Our waitress got everything perfectly correct, and gave a great recommendation for the pasta dish (can't remember the name at the moment).
My only disappointment is that the dishes are priced quite high. I would love to enjoy Bella Luna Cafe more often, but will enjoy again when I get another <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> coupon.
We ate here years ago and had a great meal. Recently we bought a coupon from <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2FRestaurants.com&s=92a32e879a8bc9bad14f389149e0a62a99ba27f54b2dca87b4d713cffa7973a9" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://Restaurants.com</a> and used it for lunch today.
We had a really nice lunch. Â It was October and warm outside so we ate on there outdoor patio. Â The patio was really nice. The chairs had cushions and there was even carpeting on the floor. It was comfy out here...I almost forgot we were outside.
Our waitress, Gretchen, was really good. She took our order...didn't write it down and everything came out perfectly. Â
We had a feast...our coupon was worth $25 but we had to order $35.
We started with the antipasto salad. Â The lettuce was fresh, dry and crispy. There was also a lot of cheese and Italian cold cut meats along with olives. Â So yummy!!!
Next we had a meatball sandwich with a cup of White Bean prosciutto soup. I would probably never order the sandwich again. The meatballs were sausage based. Â They were tasty but I wasn't looking for a Sausage Ball Sandwich. So I was a little unhappy with our choice. Also, we could have used a little more sauce on the sandwich. Â It was a little dry. Â The soup was really good too...definately homemade...lots of fresh vegetables, beans and prosciutto!
Next we had a thin cheese pizza...the crust was cooked perfectly...cheese had a little burn on top...it was really good. Â I would get one of these again. Â In fact, there is a great dinner special on Mon through Thursday for two glasses of wine and a large pizza (we did not get this but it is written on a sign in the window).
Now we didn't eat all of this food we ordered...we did get some of it wrapped to go home. Â I know we are going to have some leftovers for the next few days.
We also washed it down with a cannoli. It was really good but the center was hollow. I hate that but at least the shell wasn't soggy. Â I didn't feel like telling the waitress considering we had a coupon.
The service was amazing. Gretchen timed out everything perfectly. It is refreshing to find a waitress that gets it and delivers to the customer.
A sunny day in October, $35 of Food for $10, and Amazing Service!!! Â What more could I ask for? Â Bella Luna Cafe delivered everything I expected. We will be back.
I've walked by this place several times, and always thought it looked like a nice quiet place to eat. Â
Finally went here last night due to a $25 <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurant.com&s=c5fe485af4df376130bee54f875814d79c4d7913e1258123b1206d2bdbf4873b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurant.com</a> gift certificate, and was a bit underwhelmed. Â
Ordered the grilled calamari, veggie thin crust, and baked mostacolli. Â All were mediocre at best, would never eat here paying full price. Â With the amount of italian competition in the area, I would've expected better. Â I could've made better italian at home with one pot, a spoon, some sauce and noodles.
Our server was good, but that was about it at this italian diner. Â For the sake of the business, food quality really needs to go up to last.
Been there once before a few years ago, and in a sea of great Italian restaurants within a 10 minute cab ride, this place is lucky to survive. Â Here is our epic of last night:
First bad sign- place is near empty when we arrived at 9:30 on a Saturday night, while the rest of downtown is still buzzing with people, and restaurants are busy. Â We order drinks. Â Iced tea has a funny taste. Â Order a diet coke and it tastes flat. Â End up with water. Â My beer is fine. Â Order grilled calamari and that is fine. Â Wife ordered chicken vesuvio (described as pieces of meat ON THE BONE). Â It arrives as a boneless chicken breast. Â When we ask what happened, the (almost comatose) waitress says they have been out of chicken breasts SINCE YESTERDAY! Â She has no excuse for why she didn't mention this when we place the order. Â Daughter's Tilapia comes out swimming in a pool of oil. Â My pepperoni pizza average at best. Â
With so many options for Italian this will definitely be our last trip here.
This restaurant reminds me of Hemingway's "A Clean Well Lighted Place," except that I went for lunch rather than a lonely drink in the middle of the night. It feels like a solitary, unpretentious diner in the middle of the city - not a cafe for college students to steal wifi. However, like Hemingway's setting, the Bella Luna Cafe has a full bar. It's a place for locals.
Vince welcomed me and invited me to sit anywhere. I chose to sit at the bar, a few stools over from a man occupied with his iPhone who was drinking beer. Since I came alone, I thought it would be nice to chat with the staff or idly gaze at the pro-softball game on the small, flat-screen TV mounted on the wall.
Thinking of my recent delicious burger at Rock Bottom, I ordered one without a bun for my lunch with a glass of water. The burger was the same beautiful consistency that I loved at RB; however, this one had a regular flavor. It was good for lunch. The fries were hand-cut and had a great crispy exterior that crushed to a soft interior between my teeth.
As I expected, Vince did keep me company at the bar. We had nice, lighthearted chatter. I noticed that Vince checked on the other guests, but did not bother them. It seemed as if they were occupied with their own thoughts or smart-phones. I like that. It's great when you have a server who is keen enough to notice when to talk to guests and when to leave them alone. Vince had that down pat!
I wish I had explored this place sooner! The reason why I didn't was because I expected a cafe - a coffee shop. The Bella Luna Cafe is much more of a diner with a bar. The word "cafe" in the name is a misnomer. Don't let that keep you away from their full menu and bar!
I am actually very surprised that this place has such a bad reputation here on Yelp. My wife and I went here for an early Saturday night dinner and we were actually quite impressed.
The place was very empty when we first arrived as there were only a few patrons here. Our server was great, she was very helpful and friendly and made some great suggestions
We started out with grilled calamari which was very good and did the trick. It is really difficult to screw up calamari and it is pretty standard at most Italian places. This place was no different. i ordered the eight finger cavatelli with vodka sauce. I could not have asked for anything more satisfying. It came out hot and fresh and the vodka sauce was outstanding. It is going to be very difficult for me to order anything else the next time I come here for a meal.
I am very much looking forward to my next visit here as everything was very  good and it was a more than satisfying experience!
This is the kind of Italian place you want to have a few blocks from your apartment, casual and comfortable. With a couple dozen tables, its Inviting and affordable without slipping into the bland sameness of the forgettable red sauce factories that make their escape from Little Italy.
Three things I like about the Luna.
1) Vodka sauce and homemade noodles ... a nice tang to the sauce and the homemade "8 finger" noodles and rigatoni are nice (but light on the portion size for the noodles themselves).
2) A good start ... the romaine salad is fresh and simple. Focaccia and crusty Italian bread for everyone.
3) Open tables without white table cloths ... Friendly folk and tables that are usually available when you walk in. Outdoor dining along Sinclair St.
This isn't the destination for your one big night out on the town. But if what you really want is to relax and linger over conversation, collect your thoughts, or just get out of your room for a break, this is a good place to have a nice meal, sit back and enjoy.
I've been here a couple of times. One time I ordered the homemade pasta and it was amazing. I don't recall the name, but the pasta itself was delicious and the vodka sauce it was in made it even better!
The next time, I got the mostaccioli instead and while it was pretty good, it wasn't as unique and outstanding as the previous dish. The atmosphere is nice and the service has always been good. There are definitely other really amazing Italian places in the city, especially when pizza is concerned, but if you're out on a chilly winter evening and need some warm pasta this is a nice place to go!
My family and I came here for pizza. Â Good round pizza pie and soup selection. Â My favorite dessert here is their canoli. Â Its a tiny place with a big heart. Â The management is always present and pleasantly conversating with the staff and guests. Â
Tables are too close for comfort but it is a little place across the street from where my sister used to live so we spotted it out. Â Good Italian food with zest and a polite staff.
I live across the street from here and I don't go here often. $9 for a meatball sub. The pizza is thin and decent. Skip the artichoke hearts - was so happy they had them but they sucked.
I remembered that they catered a bbq in my buidling and they were rude. They ran out of rolls for the burgers and dogs.
I love this place and am surprised by some of the poor reviews!
Granted, I literally live across the street so location is a huge plus and I can understand why I wouldn't travel for it if it were further away.
However, I've had many meals here and all of them have been entirely pleasant experiences. They have great deals, as some other people have mentioned, and the atmosphere is very neighborhood-y which is sort of strange for this area (since nothing there really feels neighborhood-y). It's either actually family run or just feels like it's family run, but either way that's a good thing. The best deal is a large pizza plus two glasses of wine for $14.95 - once when my dining partner wanted beer they let me have both glasses of wine. My kind of joint.
Service is good, prices are decent, and the food, wine, beer are all great. Is also always busy but never packed full, which is nice. I'll definitely keep coming here!
Finally tried Bella Luna after driving by the restaurant for 20 years. Glad did.
Had quick lunch and enjoyed. The place knows that they want to be and that's a neighborhood Italian restaurant and bar. Had their house minestrone soup and pasta marinara. Was very happy they had half portions and was more than enough. Tasty, filling and good. Will go back. Perfect stop after or before major Michigan Avenue shopping experience and won't kill your budget. Try it!
My girlfriend and I discovered this little gem through <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Frestaurants.com&s=8b83bf0ff8b716aae84527dc95577a310f201b166dcca25c8ca3824b15703869" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://restaurants.com</a>. Â I am so glad we did. Â
Mon-Thursday they offer a large 1 topping pizza and 2 glasses of wine for 16.99. Â
We use are coupon and get grilled calamari (very good), pizza, wine, and a desert with tip and our bill is 17 dollars. Â
They have a nice patio outside. Â
A 5 star place to go for great food, great value during the week.
Yak! My wife and I went in here to meet a relative for dinner. The place wasn't crowded at all, which probably explains why the bus boy was hovering every time I finished a glass of water.
We eventually got around to ordering. We had the half order of gnocchi, the pork chops and a burger. The gnocchi actually looked appetizing. i say looked good because that's all it did. You should smell pasta, you should crave pasta, and you salivate when you see someone else eat it. It was lacking in all departments.
The pork chop reminded me of something my father cooked for me as a child. One of those thinly sliced shoulder chops, with a lot of gristle in it. The burger almost redeemed the restaurant for these deficits. However, aside from being juicy, it was almost completely bland. But of course, I love burgers.
I wouldn't go here again.
On Saturday, a couple friends of mine and I were walking around downtown and happened to walk by this place. We didn't even really notice that it was cafe as the exterior isn't too flashy or anything. We walked inside, and nobody was inside (keeping in mind it was lunch time). Naturally, there was no wait, but more and more people started trickling in while we were there.
Anyway. I tried one of their lunch specials - personal 7" pizza and a small salad, for only $6 or $7 bucks. Not too bad. I started off with a small (read: VERY small) cesar salad. It had three croutons, seriously. The salad was your basic cesar. I had a pepperoni topping pizza, though it wasn't the best, it sufficed. Had sort-of fresh lemonade (at least it wasn't fountain!) and our server was attentive as can be.
All in all, I probably wouldn't come back here just for the pizza and small salad, but I'd be open to trying something else on the menu.
Not sure what all the Bella Luna flack is about.... Â it is a great pizza joint in the the hood. We get delivery here for work about once or twice a month and we have NEVER had anyone say a thing bad about the pies - thats 15 ppl that all liked the same thing - you do the math. Plus, they cut the pizza in squares FTW!
Now, for some odd reason, the name always makes me think of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones - let me sing you a pizza'd version of this banjo diddy...
been savin' all my pizza love for a rainy work day
I didn't know that pizza was gonna taste this way
though the days are lonely and the nights are so cold
I remain awaiting the mate of my tastebuds soul
How to start off my review with a bang...
Lets see, I almost died eating here.
Okay, maybe thats a little dramatic, but close to it.
I get to Bella (which was empty, deff a sign) and ask to be seated outside. They start to show us to our table and then tell us to stop. They had to set a table for us. Then they say okay, lets go. Wait no, stop, not done yet. They finally finish setting the table with napkin wrapped silverware and salt and pepper. They sat us right in front of the door that connects the inside and outside together.
Our waitress comes immediately and says "what can i get you to drink?" what no hello, no 'my name is...', nothing. Our waitress had no personalty and can  tell she didnt want to be there. We ordered our drinks and later our food. I get a salad to start which was drenched in nasty balsamic which I took 2 bites of and put it to the side. Then our meals come which was TERRIBLE! I make better food at home, honestly. The whole time I'm eating, I'm being stared at by our waitress who is standing in the door way. CREEPY! So im about 1/4-1/2 done with my meal and im chewing chewing and all of the sudden i start to choke, but didnt want to make a scene so im trying to handle myself. As im trying to get this thing out of my throat, i feel something scratch the inside of my mouth. I pull it out and there is a piece of STEEL WOOL (the things they clean the pans with to get the hard food off the sides) I'm still coughing this morning from this.
We till our waitress so was like "oh im sorry, can i get you another one" HELL NAW! Get me the hell out of here.
She comp-ed the meal and we left.
NEVER AGAIN!
I came here for lunch a few weeks ago and I was definitely not impressed. Â Maybe if I tried it for dinner I would have a different opinion, but given a lot of the reviews, I'm guessing not.
I only had a sandwich and soup... The minestrone was terrible, I would not recommend it, and it's a pretty basic thing to make. Â Sandwich was ok. Â
Overall, I did not like it, which was too bad because it's right around the corner.
Meh. I am writing this on memory from trying it twice about 9 months ago. When I moved to the neighborhood I wanted this place to be good. I gave it a couple tries and wasn't impressed. It was okay.
I remember the food isn't bad. It was a fairly average. A decent quality meal. I had a guest from out of town the second time. We stopped in because it was convenient and I remembered it was at least decent.
My guest complained about the heat, and when the wait staff asked the owner, I think they wanted to save the energy initially because the restaurant wasn't crowded enough for them to want to bother. My guest (from NYC) pressed the issue. They turned on the AC.
I will definitely give it one more try to impress my taste buds with pizza. On none of the visits dis I or we ever give the pizza a try. Since people are saying their pizza is worth a try, it seems that their food has the opportunity to still grow on me through excellence with pizza.
I just think a backdoor pie to my heart is a little more demanding on me than it should be for a restaurant that wants to succeed. I'll try the pizza in the near term. I'll update my review here with the result. Who knows? I may learn to love it.
Living just a block away for over three years, we never tried this place b/c it just looks unimpressive. After reading the Yelp reviews, we decided to try their pizza - LOVE IT! The cannolis are not bad either.
Today we had an Italian beef sandwich and an Italian sub and both were REALLY good.
Service: they are always very nice when we pick up our food; we have not eaten in yet, but will eventually.
The first time we'd ever gone in, we just had two double espressos and it cost us $7, so we decided not to go back. We're glad we gave it another try. It looks like perhaps a retired cop or someone CPD related must own it b/c we see the boys in blue or their cars near the place quite often.
I'm really not sure why there are so many negative reviews, the food must be hit or miss (or the soda issue - at least now readers are warned!)- I'd really like to give it a 3.5, because it's not something I'd be craving again and again (like Hub 51 and their damned tacos) but I would absolutely come back. First of all, the interior was cuter than what I had been expecting from the outside. Â It felt very cozy, especially on a cold night. Â We had the fried calamari for the table- the dipping saices were really good from what I remember, and that's not something I would usually notice when it comes to fried stuff. Â I had the baked mostaccioli- I only ordered a half portion and it as still quite a lot of cheesy goodness. I thought I would have leftovers but I could not stop myself from finishing. I felt pretty mad at myself afterwards, which is usually a sign that things were tasty. Â
Granted I was there on a weeknight so it was completely dead, but I would imagine it would also be a lot less crowded than trying to go out on Rush or further south into River North. Â We had no problem with the service and had at least 2 rounds of bread brought to us (yum). Â Recommended for a low-key dinner!
I decided to take a chance and go somewhere to eat with out consulting the Yelp reviews and look where it gets me. Â I'm totally pissed I just threw away $45 on dinner with my boyfriend on a mediocre meal with very poor and very slow service. Â The waitress didn't even understand what I was talking about when I asked if they had a gluten free menu. Â She has "never heard of it". Â Are you serious? Â The problem is that the place is in a good location and it looks so quaint. Â I swear that is the only reason it's in business. Â It won't happen again Yelp.
Review Source:I had without question the worst risotto I have ever eaten. It calls into question whether it was really risotto. Service is barely passable - the decor tired - it used to be a decent joint, but no longer. Unfortunately, I have friends who still go there - and in the future I will choose to decline the invitations.
Review Source:I haven't been to the restaurant for a few years, so maybe the quality of the food has gone down. But I was surprised to see so many negative reviews. The pasta was always homemade and very well done. The beer-battered artichoke hearts served at the Taste of Chicago every year are my favorite dish there.
Review Source:Bella Luna could be that hidden neighborhood gem, but I agree with Nancy H! Â Maybe, that's why our bill was so much for what seemed like a less than average-sized meal without alcohol? Â The minestrone soup was great, and the pizza and pasta were standard Italian. The service was a little abrasive- definitely not what I was expecting for such a cute hole in the wall diner. Â The biggest turn-off of all---no free refills on the soda AND no warning that you would be charged for each until after the bill was settled! Â Perhaps I shouldn't be such a Diet Coke guzzling machine... but it really left a bad taste in my mouth!
Watch that bill!
It looks like a hotdog place or a laundromat from the outside, but it is actually cute inside with about 10 small tables and a couple of larger bar tables in the back. Â The food is pretty decent, and the prices are average (~$13). Â I've always tried pasta each time, but I hear the pizza is the neighborhood's "secret."
My bf and I won't come back here anymore, though, because we get the feeling there is something shady going on with the tax rate. Â It was like 15% the two times we've gone, and when we tried to ask the waitresses why, they've rolled their eyes at us, gossiped to each other behind our backs, and said there was nothing they can do about it. Â True, THEY can't, but the restaurant can, but since they aren't playing by the rules, we won't dine here anymore.
