You have to have a hot dog while you're at Wrigley Field. Â While you can get your hot dogs at other kiosks at Wrigley Field or get one from one of the vendors who wanders around the stadium, Big Dawgs offers a fully customizable footlong dog experience. Â The toppings (about 12 of them, including sauerkraut, cheese, sport peppers, tomatoes, grilled onions, relish, etc.) are included in the price of the dog. Â Or you can just specify Chicago style to get the traditional Chicago toppings. Â You can also get chicken tenders, fully loaded fries and drinks here.
When I asked what type of relish they used, they said "green relish"...which means a sweet pickle relish that looks unnatural, like they added green food coloring to it.
* Bison footlong ($7): That's a good price for a footlong hot dog at a ballpark. Â The bison meat is full flavored (tastes like red meat), it's not dry but it's not as juicy as usual either (the meat is very lean). Â It sits nestled in a soft, steamed bun. Â For toppings, I asked for grilled onions, relish, sport peppers and sauerkraut. Â Not only were they generous with the toppings, but each dog was assembled with care and presented with a flourish. Someone there wants to make your dog a work of art. Â
My bun became soggy and I couldn't easily bite into the dog (toppings fell off). Â The relish was too sweet for me and they also put on way too much (but they had to do that to make it look nice). Â It was interesting to encounter that color of relish - made me feel like I was in Chicago.
The condiment station has ketchup, yellow mustard, spicy brown mustard and freshly ground raw onions. Â I think I ruined the look of my hot dog with my mustard splatters...if only someone could add the mustard for me.
I love that the employees take pride in assembling those hot dog creations.
