Everyone should try this place! Â We will be back often.
We went on a weeknight, not too crowded, but still lively. Â The bar had a few patrons, we were seated immediately. Â We were seated with the full wine (bottle) list and informed that bottles were half price that evening. Â Its a long list, well worth a look at, but we opted for "by the glass" anyway. Â
We had six tapas plates - I remember 5 of them below (with help of their on-line menu), I think the 6th must have been a special that night as its not on the menu. Â It was another meat dish. Â We shared each plate so everyone had a taste of all. Â While we reviewed the entree menu, we opted for the smaller tapas to have more of a "tasting menu" type thing. Â
Albondigas de Cordero - lamb meatballs with traditional romesco sauce topped with whipped ricotta cheese
Pechuga de Pato al Sarten - seared Hudson valley magret duck breast over sweet potato cinnamon puree drizzled with chocolate balsamic vinaigrette
Corderito al Guiso - braised baby veal shank, with root vegetables & port wine reduction
Croquetas de Cangrejo - blue crab croquettes with whole grain mustard aioli
Atun al Sarten - seared Hawaiian yellow fin tuna with roasted fingerling potatoes and saffron aioli
Our first out were the Crab croquettes and the tuna, but our tuna was more of a tuna tartare than the description makes it sound. Â However, it was terrific. Â The croquettes were also terrific. Â
Next up were the meatballs and the duck breast. Â All I can say is we were licking the plates. Â
Last up were the veal and ??. Â Again, we licked the plates. Â
We did not have a dessert, coffee or anything else, we were very satisfied by the plates.
Our service was good, very knowledgeable about the menu, also knew the wines. Â We really enjoyed our experience here and will be back when in the area again. Â
Parking here is in a Private lot and plentiful.
What a disaster. Â I'm going back about three months on this review. Â We dined on a slow Tuesday night. Â No valet (good - the valet is very cumbersome) and no crowd.
My dining partner and I walked into hoping to sit at the bar - unfortunately our senses were overcome by the lingering smell of stale beer - clearly cleanliness in the bar room is not a priority. Â We were then lead to the dining room which is a major improvement over the former Greenwich Tavern. Â This was the only positive note.
A server approached us and asked for a drink order - we requested one minute to look at the list. Which became 5, and 10 minutes. Â He had disappeared. Â Oh well - we flagged someone down walking out of the near by bar room and they took care of us. Â After continuing to wait for another 10 minutes a new server approached explaining the first server had been sent home and he noticed that we looked ready to order. Â Thank You.
We decided to order some small plates - Gambas al Ajillo, lamb chops, scallops, osso bucco, some tuna dish(don't remember any details), fried calamari and a braised short rib entree to finish.
The shrimp came out terrible. Â 5 tiny, mushy shrimp sitting in oil barely at room temperature. Â No flavor, gross consistency - no thank you. Â Next came the scallops - cooked just right but with no real flavor besides that of a plain pan seared sea scallop. Â Alright - not a great start. Â Let's see how the rest goes. Â Or do we?
We then proceed to wait 10 minutes for the next set of dishes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, we finally get to 35 minutes and we are now the only ones in the restaurant. Â The bartenders are breaking down the bar and bus boys are sweeping the floor around us. Â We never got the rest of the food and we had no waiter to check in on us. Â After flagging down the manager who was happily eating his food on a near by booth we requested everything to be canceled.
I'm pretty sure nothing else was ever put in the computer because our adjusted check was ready without the manager even checking the computer.
This experience mixed with an argument with the valet outside on a previous attempted visit has earned this restaurant a firm 1-star rating in my book. Â NEXT!
Fantastic dinner and excellent service. Â Four of us had dinner there Saturday night. Â We read a review on Yelp and thought why not, it's a drunken walk from the Hyatt. Â It turned out to be a nice and short walk from the Hyatt. Â 2 of us shared tapas and the other two had meals. Â The scallops were cooked perfectly. Â Lamb meatballs were good (hard to screw that up). Â Tuna tartar was delicious. Â They had a pork special that was out of this world. Â Juicy, salty and moist. Â All of us were gaga over that dish. Â The mac & cheese was ok. Â Not worth getting if your a mac n cheese fanatic. Â
We had excellent service from more than 4 staff members. Â They clearly work together as a team. Â It was a little loud but we had fun and never felt like we were too loud for our neighbors.
I read a very positive review of Bistro Latino in the New York Times, so I was excited when Living Social featured a deal at the restaurant.
Once seated, we were really disappointed when the waiter brought over a very skimpy version of the dinner menu as soon as a I mentioned Living Social. Â Gone were the dozens of tapas choices and in their place only a few remained. Â
Opinions vary on Living Social and Groupon, but the fact is that they are a great way for new people to try out your restaurant. Â Olio in Stamford is an outstanding example. Â No special cheapo menu, just a chance to try the great food and hopefully come back. Â Also, if the offer had said something about a special, preselected menu or something, that would be different. Â Many of the most appetizing menu items were not on the mini-menu.
Unfortunately, not only the menu had been slimmed down. Â I ordered an extra salad along with the same one from the LS menu and the LS version was less than half the size.
That being said, the food was quite good. Â Salmon on sweet potato chips was a tasty appetizer. Â The salad was also nicely dressed (both the regular and mini versions). Â The skirt steak was delicious, as was the salmon entree. Â The discounted wine on Sunday was a nice touch. Â Flan, which so many places get wrong, was just right. Â And the service was quite good.
So, would I go back? Â Probably not and really because of the the whole bait and switch. Â I think if restaurants play games like that, they shouldn't bother with LS and Groupon. Â Bistro Latino is a nice place with good food, just beware of any specials with strings attached.
Went for Saturday lunch and everyone was quite pleased with their selections. I had two tapas - mussels and crab cakes - and found the mussels delicious, with a superb broth which I loved. The crab cakes were not as much crab as I would like, so this was not especially memorable.
My friends really enjoyed their selections, including the salmon and vegetable paella.
The dining space is very attractive and the bathrooms are clean. The wait staff was prompt and friendly - overall a very good dining experience. Saturday lunch was slow so I can't really comment on noise levels. I thought the drinks were a bit pricey but the draft beers reasonable.
Wow, we had a great meal there the other night! I have been to the Greenwich Tavern a few times, and always had a good meal, so I was interested in trying the new place (same owners). I came with my wife and kids and sat in the more casual dining area on the left side of the entrance. There were other young children there and the place was relatively uncrowded- so it was a comfortable place to be with my young kids. The wait staff was very responsive- my water glass never got below 1/3 full before being refilled- and provided excellent recommendations on the tapas. We ordered an oyster tapas that was spectacular, and I had the chilean sea bass (special) which was excellent. The skirt steak was also excellent. My wife and I both had the sangria, which was delicious.
There are not many negatives. There is no real kids menu, although they had chicken fingers for my daughter, who was not all that interested in the tapas. The major negative is the price- this ended up being a very expensive meal. However, we will be going back (just not every week!), as it was probably the best meal I have had in the area. So it was definitely worth it. I gave it five stars- four and a half is probably more realistic.
This place is an easy walk too, and drunken stumble back from, the Hyatt Regency I have been staying at for work a good amount of the time lately. Â I heard this place was well liked in its previous incarnation with the same owners known as the Greenwich Tavern or something like that with a more traditional American tavern type menu. Â I can't compare the new concept to the old one as I never was there but the new place is a hit as far as Im concerned. Â The pan Latin menu had a lot of winners like the skirt steak flat-bread, perfectly cooked and flavorful muscles with chorizo, & Â tiny but delicious crab croquettes. Â Nothing was really that bad, the misfires merely just kind of fell a little flat, like the calamari that didn't really register as much and the Boquerones, which were great except from the unnecessary addition of tomato which did more harm than good. Â All in all very good food. Â Also was digging the drinks particularly the spicy jalapeno margarita, which was maybe a lil steep but still borderline fairly priced at 10 bucks a pop. Â All and all one of the better places Ive been to in this town, one of those annoying rich bastions of overpriced mediocre food not unlike much of the Hamptons, in fact perhaps the flat out best.
