I loooove Brown's Chicken. Â I grew up eating Brown's. Â Fond, fond memories. Â Either way, their chicken is just the darn best of the fast food bunch a million times over. Â Love the slaw, fries, corn fritters, biscuits are good too. Â Fresh, large pieces of tasty chicken. Â Or usually large pieces. Â Mmm mmm.
I've never actually been inside this location. Â My hubs will call over, place an order and pick up. Â Key is calling ahead and placing an order because if you walk in and order, it does take a very long time. Â Their food is hot and fresh when you get it, but prepare to wait. Â The breasts at this location seem to be shrinking in size too. Â Make all your jokes now, I left the door open for ya.
And, key to calling ahead is to find out if they are out of chicken. Â Yes, the last several times we've called, they're either out of wings or out of breasts. Â How on earth does a chicken place run out of chicken?! Â
Brown's in general gets a big 5 stars from me, but consistently running out of chicken parts is enough to get me to write a review and only give this location 3 stars.
First let me say I love Browns Chicken. Â Fond memories from childhood of the mushrooms and chicken livers as well as the chicken. Â Went to this location and ordered a 3 piece white meat with a side and presented a valid coupon that ran in the Chicago Tribune for a free small order of mushrooms. Â I was told by the employee that he had "given too many free orders away" and decided to end the promotion the day before. Â And besides "it's only $3". Â I walked out and will never go to this location of Browns Chicken again. Â BEWARE - this is a SKETCHY FRANCHISEE!!!!! Â DO NOT PATRONIZE!!!!
Review Source:Wanted to update that they now have this Chicken Parmesan with Mosticolli and it is delicous. Â Try a bowl of it with the spicy chicken (not too spicy at all, good flavor). Â Once you love it, just keep it in mind for catering or whatnot. Â Sort of a strange location still, but glad it is going strong. Â I'd still read my first review for more info.
Review Source:Rating up a notch, mostly cuz roommate brought home a bunch of non-chicken stuff (the fantastic mushrooms, a combo sandwich and hot dog, both with fries) and it was relatively cheap ($15-ish). Â The combo was, of course, super greasy (it's Italian beef and sausage, so not surprising; it was tasty, though). Â The real surprise was the hot dog. Â Damn, it was good. Â Proper Chicago-style toppings (sliced tomato, onion, pickle, the bright relish, sport peppers, even poppy seed bun, and Vienna perfectly-snappy dog, for $2.99 with fries). Â I'd go back for that alone.
Review Source:For the longest time there was a sign at this Citgo near my house proclaiming that a Brown's Chicken would be coming soon. Amazingly, it finally opened over the summer. There used to be a Brown's a block from my house when I was a kid, and I really enjoyed getting the chicken and sides from there. I've been to this new Brown's once and so far it has not quite lived up to my childhood expectations. One good thing about it is that it is within a mini-mart, so you can pick up other stuff too. My order took awhile to come out. My fried chicken and biscuit were decent, but they have an interesting range of side items here from corn fritters (imagine a munchkin donut with corn kernels inside) to pasta to fried mushrooms. My grandma had fish and shrimp, which she was not crazy about. I'll come back here again because of convenience (I may have to ask for Jonathan C's "cold chicken" special), but Pollo Campero is also close to my house and had won over my tastebuds in adulthood.
Review Source:As for Fried Chicken fast, Brown's Chicken blows away KFC, Popeye's, Churches, etc.. Â The difference is simply quality and of course, taste (more specifically their buttermilk batter they use). Â Jonathan C pretty much nailed it in his description so if you really want to know the intricacies and differences check his review, the guy knows his chicken, that is for sure.
They do much more than just fried chicken from Pasta to tons of different Chicago style sandwiches (beefs, sausages, dogs, etc.) and loads of sides to choose from. Â
Brown's obviously took a hit and were fairly off the radar since the Palatine murders in the early 90's but they seem to be making a comeback and it's a welcomed one for sure. Â Brown's: It's a Chicago thing, started here and I hope to see them do well in years to come, chain/franchise whateves, it's damn good eating nonetheless.
