Jumped onto the Louisville Street Food website to find a nearby food truck/stand to my work place and stumbled across Bully Dogs. One look at the menu and my co-worker and I were sold.
The owner is out on 6th and Chestnut on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during the lunch hours (11:30am-2:30pm). He serves up four different types of dogs: veggie, turkey, 1/3 all beef and 1/3 all beef Polish. You can "BYOB" (Build Your Own Bully) or you can it in one of his five styles: Carolina/Southern, Coney, Chicago, New York or Seattle.
The most intriguing were the Carolina/Southern (chopped onions, BBQ sauce and coleslaw) and the Seattle (grilled onions and peppers and cream cheese), but I opted for a 1/3 Polish Chicago Style with chips and a drink for $6.00. (My two co-workers opted for the two turkey dogs with chopped onions and BBQ sauce, chips and a drink for $5.00.)
The dog itself was delicious. Poppy seed bun, good-sized dog with a bit of a kick, cooked to perfection with all the right toppings (I only wished he had some hot peppers!) Definitely a solid dog.
The set-up was clean and efficient. The owner definitely knew what he was doing and was easy-going. And he gave us a tip: when the cold weather rolls around, he would probably switch things up and start doing homemade white bean chili. Definitely a good incentive to get out of the office and brave the elements in the winter!
(He doesn't have a website, but his Facebook page has a couple menus and pictures of the food.)
