Waaaay beyond good neighborhood pizza. Â I am from Brooklyn, work in Manhattan and live in Jersey City and when I want a really good pizza I travel 25 minutes west - bypassing thousands of pizzeria's that resemble Buona in every way except the food. Â That may sound a bit crazy, but I am a pizza snob, have tried pizza in a number of towns, states and countries - including Italy - and have NEVER had better pizza. Â I dare you to find better. Â Salad is awesome too, but the pizza rocks the house!
Review Source:Good local pizza place, and very busy. Â If you go you should try their famous salad slice (I know, it sounds like a gimmick but it is truly awesome) go in the afternoon - they are sold out by 3pm. Â The whole wheat crust is worth a stop as well. Â
Other meals i have tried: The chicken Parmesan is pan fried, which makes the meat tender and juicy. Â This is a rarity and more restaurants should prepare it this way. Â
A BIG plus to this place is the nearby Shoprite Liquors which has a great selection of craft beer and great wine.
The only downside: the decor is depressing and the layout is awkward.
Buona does have about the BEST PIZZA in the Westfield area....God only knows the town has restaurants...and about 90% of them are Italian...so there is no lack of Italian food here.....is it good Italian food?....most places here the answer is sadly no.....and to the list I now add Buona. This place makes an excellent pizza pie...but that is where it ends, pizza is their forte. There dinner menu is a disaster. We ordered veal parm, and chicken marsala.....both were horrid, we ate a few bites and tossed it. The veal was thin, dry, fried to a crisp and was most likely pounded pork, the chicken marsala....were pieces of thinly sliced mediocre dry chicken, sauce without marsala (real at least) wine...and 90% over-cooked pasta, same with the veal, mostly pasta. I am an excellent cook, was sick so ordered here....it will be the last time......there are better places for a "dinner" of this type in the town.....However.....I will continue to order their pizza....as this is their only strong point.
Review Source:We came by because M refused to go to panera bread or anywhere else so A could get the salad she was craving. Â So 10 minutes out of our way brought us here for a standard slice and a huge and good ceasar salad. Â $12 for both with 2 drinks. Â It's standard neighborhood pizza, so if you're not in the neighborhood no need to drive 10 min out of your way to get here. Â Got that M?
