The place is really Kool. It feels like an Old restaurant with a charm. I ordered the mussels with whte wine and it tasted really good. They give refills or soda and humangous bread.

The waiter and his service is really much apprecited. The place offers wifi and patio and bar seating which is awesome. The only reason I gave 4 is because there were Flies inside the resto attacking my food. No esta Bueno!

Good beer list, really interesting daily specials and solid menu.  Everything I've had here is delicious and it's got a great relaxed atmosphere.  Favorite place in Chestnut Hill.  Only reason for 4 stars is I wish they had more outdoor seating

I have been to Campbell's Place on three different occasions and have ordered something completely different every time.  The food is creative and dependably tasty. The beer selection hasn't disappointed me yet.  Definitely somewhere I would recommend to anyone visiting Chestnut Hill. It offers SO much more than pub food.  The brussel sprouts are delicious!

We visited this place for a late lunch, what a mistake! Three out of four beers we asked for on there beer list they didn't have. We ordered crab cakes, chicken nachos and flat bread, the crab cakes were small but tasty, I don't know where the chicken was is the nachos and the chips itself were on the stale side, the flat bread was very small and dry! Over priced and not tasty!

Campbell's is a great spot! I really like the warm atmosphere with exposed brick walls and cosy booths. The food is is always good with a gastro pub menu and lots of daily specials. They use a lot of local products and are even starting an offsite garden this summer for fresh produce etc....Had the Dirty Durkin special which I hope becomes permanent because it was deliciuos! My new favorite sandwich. Great beer selection too!

We go here regularly for family dinners and meeting friends. The mussels cooked with beer and blue cheese and bacon is so delicious that .I order the same thing every time. It is great for kids with a reasonable selection of child friendly items on the menu.  From the outside it looks like a bit of a hole in the wall but inside is very nice with exposed brick and changing art exhibits.  Downstairs is small and cozy with booths. There is space upstairs for bigger tables.

A solid 4 star stop in Chestnut Hill.  The service, the beers, the food...very very good.  This is a frequent stop of mine on a night you don't know what you want to do or eat.  A varietal menu with great apps and salads, albeit expensive salads, good bar food and warm comforting entrees from burgers through meatloaf to a nice grilled salmon.

Last night I started with a fresh, delicious salad of aged Gouda & Prosciutto,
mixed greens, pistachios & tossed in a sweet fig vinaigrette.  Followed it up with a wonderful rare sushi grade tuna on a soft brioche bun with a wasabi aioli.  The tuna is excellent, pure and tender and definitely not small.

The beers on tap rotate, but they continue to carry one of my faves, Racers 5.  Good bar service and a lively, happy crowd from the surrounding neighborhood.

Stay just the way you are, you've got "it".

My fiance and I came here instead of our usual Iron Hill night out and were quite impressed. We've had drinks here before but never dinner. We were seated upstairs right away and greeted almost immediately. We enjoyed picking from their beer list, they have quite a bit on tap and available by bottle. I was happy to see a couple vegetarian items on the menu but was sad that it was only a veggie burger and the General Tso's Tofu. we got the tofu and it was delicious, there was a lot of flavor to it. I also ordered strawberry cheesecake for dessert and it was not like any cheesecake I've ever had. more of a cake with strawberry frosting on top. it was weird. my fiance had the canoli and said they were awful. Service was great until it got a little busy, as it usually does on a friday night, and we missed out on our last round of drinks. at least we didn't get charged for them, even though we ordered them. all in all, I would go back for drinks and maybe more if they add a few more veggie options but I wouldn't go for the dessert.

Was torn on his many stars to choose but decided on four stars versus three for a few reasons: outdoor seating; not long lines like other Chestnut Hill spots; good food at good prices, especially brunch (breakfast burrito and salads--like arugula with goat cheese and beets--are excellent), plus can accommodate larger parties. Why I might give it 3 stars? Service can be really slow. Even if you're one of three tables. And if its nice out, it's dark inside (no windows). But it's a great winter spot and relaxed place to drink, so 4 stars it is!

After having dinner in Chestnut Hill on Friday evening with a few friends, we decided we wanted to have some drinks before we all went our separate ways.  We originally wanted to go to Iron Hill, but there was a really long wait to get a seat in the bar area, so one person in our group suggested Campbell's Place down the street instead.

There is an upstairs bar and a downstairs one.  Unfortunately, the upstairs one was full, and you can't get a table unless you're having dinner since seating is limited.  Due to this, we sat at the corner of the bar downstairs.  The beer list is pretty good, but since I'm not a big beer fan, I took a look at the small cocktail menu.  I opted for the mojito, but unfortunately they were out of mint and nothing else on the cocktail menu interested me.

I decided to get dessert instead.   There isn't a written dessert menu, but the bartender was happy to tell us the long list of desserts.  It mostly consisted of different varieties of cheesecake and bread puddings.  I hadn't had bread pudding in forever, so I went with the blueberry one and another person in my party with the chocolate chip .  They arrived promptly and were nice and warm.  The blueberry one tasted good and was chocked-full of blueberries, but was not bread pudding as I know it.  It consisted of two slices and tasted like a blueberry muffin that had been dipped in an egg batter they way you do French toast.  The milk, egg, and sugar mixture hadn't really soaked all the way through the bread.  I'm also used to bread pudding coming with a brandy sauce or some other kind of booze and usually some kind of dried fruit like raisins is involved as well with ice cream.  However, this came with cinnamon whipped cream, which was tasty, but again the whole thing just wasn't what I was expecting and could be better described as blueberry muffin French toast.

A lot of people around us were having dinner, and it did look and smell good. This place might be worth checking out for dinner next time I'm in the area.

I had the worst experience here today.  Sat down, ordered a drink and a burger with a side of mayo.  Burger came out fast, no side of mayo.  Took me ten minutes to get someones attention to get the mayo.  I attempt to eat my medium rare burger, it was completely raw.  I mean cold in the center and raw meat squirted out. After another ten minutes trying to get someones attention, they take it back to the kitchen.  They come out pretty quickly with the new burger, so I thought.  I notice as I bite it, that it's a new bun and what appears to be a microwaved patty with my old bite out of it!  Terrific!  I guess I could be mistaken about the microwaving, but can you really put eaten food back on the grill?  I attempted to eat it, but  it tasted awful.  Like they reasoned it after recooking and it was still kind of raw, but now dry; because it's vintage at this point.

I gave up and laid my card down on the bar.  I tried to get someones attention for 25 minutes to pay.  I should have walked out.  They never even attempted to ask me for another drink, which I had finished before my burger came out.  They also didn't ask me how everything was when I paid, because they know it sucked.  They looked directly at the disguising mess still sitting on the plate.  They could not care less.

I'm never, ever going to this place again.  It's very rare occasion that I've felt my blood boil being so frustrated in a restaurant.  The staff was just hanging out together at the far end of the bar with some regulars.

I like this spot, as I live next door and it has a much more neighborhood feel than Iron Hill across the street.  I never had a single complaint until last week when the young heavy set girl with dark hair was so darn right rude to me infront of other customers that I promptly paid for my beer, left zero tip and walked out.  And I know i wasn't drunk and obnoxious as it was my very first beer of the night.

As she was going over beers with the guy seated next to me and I heard her say that the mad elf was on draft, i simply asked " oh the mad elf is on?"  She turns to me and says infront of the other guy in the most irritated voice "thats what I said isn't it".  I was walking in looking for a nice place to grab a drink I certainly don't need to be treated like that.  I would rather walk a 2 blocks up to McNallys and be treated with some respect.

Im sure the owners know who she is.  It's a shame as it certainly ruined my favorite local bar for me.

I used to like this place much more. But then they removed my favorite item from the menu, and as mentioned elsewhere, the portions seem really small lately. If you don't get an appetizer first, you're gonna leave there hungry. I can accept that in a gourmet restaurant with better quality food, but not my local tavern. It's a shame cause I can easily walk to this place. Now I find myself driving to Mt. Airy, where I can get some imaginative specials at a better price, but also in a tavern.

I just wish Campbell's would go back to their old ways. Then they would get 5 stars.

Went to Campbell's last Thursday and was very disappointed. Service was very slow and once we ordered our server never came back to check on our food. The burger we ordered well-done was as pink as could be and the portobello mushroom sandwich had no flavor and was difficult to eat because it kept sliding off the bun. Since there are several other restaurants in the area with similar menus I will never return to Campbell's.

Friday night, we had our office party! There were ten of us.  We were in festive mode and we were having a BALL.  Our server was terrific and really handled us well!!  We started with hummus, calamari and beet salad.  YUMMO! I got the special duck and a side of brussell sprouts. FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC. My partners in crime got the lobster roll, the chicken, and the pork.. DELISH.  Everything was amazing.  we really had a blast.  Judging by that visit, I'm ready to go back right now.

    Diner food, not cheap.

I had a dried-up little chicken breast coated in mustard, served with oddly uncreamy (no butter? no milk?) mashed potatoes and pretty good snap peas. Seventeen bucks.

The mac 'n' cheese might be the kind you like (not au gratin; no crustiness; smooth, creamy, oily), and if it is, it's not bad.

A couple of good beers on draft.

    Decent service.

Warm, happy atmosphere that makes me want to like the place. Maybe I'll stop in for a drink when on the Hill, but the menu is not the reputed "creative," "gourmet" (whatever that means), or "Center City."

Had dinner last night with three friends. Really bad food with lackluster service - hopefully it was just an off night. The place was packed and had a really good vibe - they need to fix the kitchen/front of house issues.  The steak was rare, sent back and returned rare. The wedge salads were more of a slice drowned in dressing and the Brussels sprouts were similar-swimming in maple syrup. The waitress was nice enough but never asked how anything was even after the steak was sent back or while clearing a barely touched meatloaf. The artichoke app was unpalatable at best. Portions were small for the price. With all the other spots one Germantown Ave we probably won't be returning here anytime soon.

My wife and I came here Yesterday for my Birthday. We ordered
Hummus and  it was very good. Now comes the bad Part. The bartender left for a bit and my wife and I decided on what to have for dinner. We saw him coming back and I raised my hand up to get his attention.  When he came over his comment to me was ' I  Guess you wanted me to run down here!' I told the bartender I wasn't trying to rush him, he then said in a gruff manner that he was only joking. i did not appreciate his tone at all. We left after that. My Grandparents owned this place for  years in the 1920's and 1930's and were known for their great customer service, especially the bartender's role. They would be Appalled. Needless to say we won't be coming Back here again anytime soon.....

Cute little pub in Chestnut Hill. Went on a Thursday night around 7pm. Seated right away. The menu isn't huge but I had a hard time picking my entree out because I wanted to try everything. I settled on the Tuna Burger with wasabi sauce. I was a little disappointed because it was supposed to be rare and it was slightly overcooked. However, the fries were delicious. I'd definitely go back.

Campbell's has the feel of a comfy old world tavern with the creative menu of a center city restaurant.  Chef Rob Mullen's vision for the Campbell's kitchen includes "A focus on delicious and high quality food made with the freshest local ingredients."  Rob has extensive culinary experience and has even toured with U2.

I headed over to Campbell's with some family members on a Wednesday night in October.  Campbell's is on Germantown Ave right next to Fiesta Pizza.  The exterior of the restaurant is not eye catching but the food certainly is.  As you walk in booths line the right wall and the 100 year old  bar runs along the left wall.

The interior of this place just exudes a warm cozy feeling.  The wood ceiling and warm lighting just set the stage for a fantastic experience.  Our server came right over and took our drink orders.  The beer list features about 50 bottles had  included several of my favorite Belgians.   On draft they feature  5 rotating taps in addition to their standard beers.

After perusing the menu I decided to go with our server's and a friends recommendation of the Bourbon Pork.   Our other entree's were the Crab Quesadilla, Fish & Chips and Chicken Pie.  As we waited for our meals we sampled some Franziskaner Hefe-Weissbier, Palm & Lindeman's Kriek. The Lindeman's almost tasted like fruit juice.  It would go perfect with desert.

Our food came out promptly and everything looked great.  The Bourbon Pork consisted of a well cooked tenderloin accompanied with sweet potato mash, house baked beans & their signature brussel sprouts.  I think there were a few pieces of roasted pear on this dish but I'm not 100% sure.

Can I have more brussel sprouts?  Yeah I said it.  I couldn't believe it either.  The brussel sprouts were tender, sweet examples of culinary genius.

The Chicken Pie was a baked Puff Pastry stuffed with a ton of shredded chicken and veggies over a bed of lettuce.  My mom's Crab Quesadilla was good and very spicy.  The Fish and Chips was good but not mind blowing.

Campbell's has me wanting to go back tonight.  Seriously,  I was that impressed.  I would not only like to eat a Campbell's but its a cool spot to just grab drinks.

Creative menu.. Top notch service.. Diverse beer list.

Came here with a friend on thurs. night with a friend to grab some beers and a bite to eat. Where has this place been all my life?! We got a couple of thier many "mind blowing" micro brews. It was like Jesus Christ punch me in the mouth! Wow!
We ordered some apps (mussels and Brussels) our waiter was sooo funny and cool!
We people watched for a min the our apps came. Let me say this...I wish I was miniature so I could jump in the mussel bowl and suck it in from the inside! The maple Brussels were tossed in children's tears of joy! Our lunch was a tuna burger and a flatbread pizza. I wanted to smear the raw tuna all over my face and run down Germantown ave while "highfiving" unicorns!!!
A-Mazing!! Thank you for the magical experience!
I WILL be back! And requesting the same waiter.
    Cheers!

I have been to Campbell's before, and had okay food and service.... but I truly cannot believe my experience last night.

The service I received was so incredibly poor that I will never return. Neglectful has new meaning to me. I have seen people yelp this before, and thought it unnecessary, but if I could rate Campbell's with 0 stars, I would.

Last night marks the third time I have ever sent a dish back to a kitchen. The "sushi grade tuna burger" I ordered had an overpoweringly fishy smell, and tasted the same. It looked and tasted like cat food, without exaggeration. The "maple glazed brussels sprouts" were swimming in a pool of Mrs. Butterworth's- but this is besides the point entirely.

Unfortunately, I could not send the burger back, because after taking our order, our waitress did not return until we left our table. I had to flag a busboy to bring me a different waiter, who begrudgingly returned the dish- giving me such an adverse reaction that I had no desire to order anything else. Our waitress dropped the check, and did not mention anything at all.

Overall, it was the worst service I could possibly imagine. It makes the perfunctory service of a Chinatown hole-in-the-wall seem Michelin star quality.

I should add that I work in the service industry, and cannot imagine how this could have happened. I have never seen a server neglect a table the way that our waitress did. It is almost impossible to do so- it takes a whole of 30 seconds to walk to the table, check in with the party, and go back to one's business.

Let me add that Campbell's beer list is silly overpriced, which deters me from returning for even a drink.

This is the kind of place that makes me want to take out beer from Trolley car and whip something up in my kitchen, even after a long night of work.

Great food especially the mussels, burgers and they have the best hummus I have ever tasted.  Service can be iffy sometimes and it can get a little crowded on Fri and Sat nights but it is well worth it for their food and beer.
They also have an upstairs room/bar you can reserve for Parties.  Have done this and they were very accommodating and supper nice with big groups.

Cute little bar in downtown Chestnut Hill. Didn't have any food but enjoyed a couple drinks at one of their outdoor tables. Service was great.

The downstairs bar has great exposed bricks and art for sale displayed up on the wall - I'm sure it is rotating but when we were in, it was paintings of trucks. Odd, but awesome!

We are planning an event and they have an upstairs space - this wasn't so great and barely decorated at all. I imagine if they spruce it up it could be an awesome space.

Given the reviews, I think we'll go back and try the food soon!

If you are a patient, petite woman who enjoys an ok, expensive meal, this is the place for you. I ordered the dijon chicken, my date ordered the salmon. Her meal was mediocre. Mine was good. It was a fairly simple preparation: mashed potatoes with a chicken breast smothered in dijon brown sauce. Her maker's mark was also well made. The staff was congenial. The decor is lovely with subtle lighting, paintings along one wall and an attractive color scheme.

We arrived a little after 6 on a Friday evening. We did not have to wait for a table. We ordered and waited close to an hour for our food. You may think I exaggerate. We checked our watches in disbelief at the wait. Finally our food came. My portion and my date's portion were slightly larger than fist sized in diameter. I mean, the entire meal. It was skimpy or as a chef reviewer said further down, "tiny." As a former New Yorker, we used to call this a "Manhattan sized meal at a Manhattan price." It wasn't a compliment.

When we left we both felt like we hadn't eaten. This was especially true given the poor quality of my date's salmon. We did feel like we had paid a lot. A $60 tab.

If you are looking for ambience, great place. But the rest of the experience, no. You can get a much better, tastier meal at other establishments in Chestnut Hill. I must admit that when I saw the accomplishments of the chef, my expectations climbed. I think that explains it, to some degree. It is very easy to fall in love with your own work because you are making it and because of your past accomplishments. You're not in New York or Aspen and we aren't U2.

I have been to Campbell's Place for two different occasions...

    1. Late night bar with friend- AWESOME!  Good beer selection, prompt friendly bar service.  Reasonable prices.  I prefer the upstairs bar- kinda feels like you're in a friend's apartment.

    2.  Early Afternoon Brunch- Again, wonderful prompt service.  Food was really really good!  I had the huevos rancheros and my husband had the french toast.  We were really torn because there were so many options that we wanted to try.  We actually split the dishes for this reason.  We plan to return to try some of the other choices.  Small comment- it kinda felt like everyone had just left the bar about an hour before we got there.  It's not a sun-filled bright brunch spot- it's a tavern/bar.  Adjust your ambiance expectations, but do not lower them!

Horrible service upstairs. The worst. Endless waiting and being ignored, but it was more than incompetence, it was all based on the attitude of the server who seemed to want to make us all pay for her not liking her job. We told her we were not pleased with our level of service and then she proceeded to make it worse.

Seriously Philly diners, do you think you can spend $160 for a party of four and receive good service? I think you can at plenty of places, but not this one. Why spend all this money in Chestnut Hill for bad service and so so food when there are sooooo many great places in Center City?

Campbells place was recommended to me and my bf. we were both immediately surprised with how nice everyone was. They try to seat u right away. Have only ever had a 10 minute wait so far. Each time I've gone I've gotten one of the specials. The beer list is worth the trip alone!! I highly highly recommend this pub. Delicious food, great service, ever changing beer list..... They could definitely charge more for what they offer.
Recently tried to go to iron hill brewery, we  left for Campbell's place after being told there was a 50 min wait at iron hill. We'll be sticking with Campbell's

I really enjoy this place.  Great atmosphere.  Like others on here mention, I've passed by it 20 times thinking it was just a hole-in-the-wall.  But it's not!  When I finally stopped in, I just wanted a beer and to check out their menu.  It was a Thursday night.  The bartender was great (Raj, or Rodg?) and talked me into a Magic Hat No. 9.  He described it perfectly ("A sort of crisp, dry, even fruity ale") before giving me a little sample.  Later, when I asked to see a menu for a future stop-in, he described some of the dishes to me and mentioned that most of their items are made from scratch, not pre-made food-service junk.  He sold me.  Again great, worldly, intelligent bartender.

My wife & I went back on a Saturday night.  It was a lot more crowded (obviously) but everyone seemed in a good mood.  It seemed a lot of the people were locals and knew each other (a good sign to me).  Took a little while to get a booth across from the bar.  I ordered the burger with the blue cheese dressing and the sweet potato fries.  It was so good, I don't even remember what my wife ordered!

We'll definitely come back with some friends.  Can't get that blue cheese burger off my mind.

I really dislike this place. Service is awful. The first time we went here we grabbed a booth and ordered drinks. Once we received our beers, we sat and chatted. The server came by and said "Are you going to eat something or what?", as though we were either taking up precious dining space (we weren't, the place was half full) or that we were taking too long to order food (isn't it the waitresses job to say "are you folks interested in any appetizers or entrees?").

Second time we went, we received better service upstairs, but the food was bland. The turkey burger was unseasoned, tasting like a hunk of ground turkey and nothing more. Prior to eating upstairs, we had beers at the bar downstairs. Before heading up, I paid my $11 tab. The next day, I checked my bank account and found that I was charged the expected amount for dinner AND $40 at the first floor bar. I called the place and told them I bought $11 and was charged $40, their answer was that they place a $40 hold on the account, and it would revert to $11 in a few days. I have never ever had that happen at any other restaurant. Why temporarily charge me four times what I paid? Why put a temporary hold on my account? It's not like their a car rental service or something.

I'm posting this in hopes that Campbell's will hear my cries for help.  Campbell's - what's happening??  You were one of my go-to spots.  Great food, great beer, great portions/prices.  The last time I ate there (March '10), I was disappointed and, hence, have not returned.  The portions were much smaller and the foots slightly inferior.  Of course, the beer and staff were great.  But, I was so into the food!  Please listen, please go back to your old ways.

This has quickly become our default neighborhood place to pop in and grab a quick bite, drink or catch the last few innings of the game.  The menu is pretty solid, with your standard pub food, comfort food, as well as a new specials, however the salads are usually quite anemic & spartan, and their wings are on par with store bought wings.  But on the upside, I always seem to underestimate just how good their mussels are.

Good beer selection on tap, but they could mix it up a bit -- seems like they've been carrying some of it on tap for nearly a year now.  Can't really comment on their wines or well drinks.

The pub pretty narrow, so seating can get kinda tight, especially if you have a group of 5 or more.  The place is a healthy mix of family and younger folks, so as a result, it does tend to fill up quickly for dinner later in the week and on weekends.  They take cash or plastic.  Unlike under the previous ownership, the waitstaff if very friendly and helpful.  Love this place.

The food here is really, really GOOD.  Everything is always consistently great (IMO).  Must haves are the mussels they run as a special.  They're done in a hoegardden sauce that's to die for, great soups, pork sliders, and just about everything else on the menu for that matter.

Sunday brunch is fun and again tasty!  Enjoy a complimentary mimosa or bloody mary.

    Good people and good times.

The very friendly folks here are key.  The entire atmosphere is welcoming.  Fresh flowers on the tables, local artists' paintings are cycled in regularly, TV is usually muted (with captions for those who just can't take their eyes off the idiot box for a second), and the music is typically a very classy (and non-bop) jazz mix - Ella, Sinatra, Ellington, etc.

Haven't had anything here yet that I didn't like, but I have noticed some inconsistency from visit to visit - likely because they prepare as much as they can from scratch rather than relying on a food service.

They seem to rotate in different beers (bottles and taps) with some regularity, but as a previous yelper noted, they are limited to 4 taps (the original copper lines).  Not sure how often they rotate the wine selection.  Neither beer nor wine selection is "huge" but if you've got a snob in your bunch (or if you're a snob yourself) there is enough of a selection so that everyone's tastes should be accommodated.

On busier nights they have a small seating area and second bar upstairs that they're starting to do a little live acoustic music in too.

I recommend the grilled chicken sandwich with garlic sauteed spinach and sharp provolone on a ciabatta roll.

Blink while walking down Germantown Ave. and you may miss Campbell's Place.  Like other Chestnut Hill venues, their humble facade opens to a deep row of booths on the right and nice long bar on the left.  You might find that only a couple of friendly folks staff the place but they know everyone's name.

Enjoy a frosty beverage while listening to some Sinatra or Bennett in  the background; only one TV off in the corner and it's muted so the relaxing atmosphere won't be disrupted.  Beer selection doesn't blow your mind, only four taps (Guinness, Harp, Lager, and Hoegaarden), but those plus some nice bottles like Stoudt's American Pale Ale and Sierra Nevada to quench your thirst.  Yes, you will find standard items like mussels and mozzarella sticks but they've got some varied entrees like chicken livers and 'lollypop' pork chops as well (most expensive entree goes for $16).

This place is just plain friendly; mostly couples in the booths for dinner and middle-aged single dudes at the bar, but not the sketch guys that leer at your lady (or you, lady) but respectful gents in for a beer and a burger.  I can't say enough about the wait staff, warm and attentive; definitely a spot inhabited by local regulars but strangers are more than welcome to drop by.
