Cave Vin is a neighborhood gem and one of the most consistently excellent restaurants in Minneapolis. We support our local restaurants and dine here on a regular basis. They offer a straight forward French menu with classic preparations. Everything on the menu is fabulous, but here are a few recommendations:

    Bread and salted butter
Mussels appetizer (keep the broth for bread or frites later)
    Beet and fennel salad
    Steak and Frites
    Pork

The wine list is targeted and exceptional. Ask for Jeffrey as waiter, he's wonderful.

    Enjoy!

We'd eaten here a while ago and had an excellent experience, but given its limited notoriety we figured we might have just gotten lucky.  Well, we decided to eat here again the other night and were very glad to be proven wrong; this place is really, really good.  The reality is this place is just classic french food done well.  The french onion soup is superb.  I had the steak-frites and the steak was cooked to medium-rare perfection and the fries with the aioli are awesome.  They're thin, crispy and delicious and the aioli compliments them perfectly (make sure to spend the extra  buck to get it).  My wife had the seafood stew, and it really was a special dish.  It had a deep luscious flavor that was rich but not too much so.  It was amazing, and embodied everything that is good about food.  Nicely done, Cafe Vin -- we will be back.

My wife and I just randomly searched yelp while we were in the neighborhood and found our new favorite restaurant. The plates for the price are not skimpy and absolutely delicious. We just could not stop talking about it. I have been telling everyone I know and decided to do my first yelp post about this restaurant. The service was amazing for a walk-in and were helpful at every step. No delay in service at all, meaning every time I wanted something they were there to ask. I can not say more about this place, but just verifying all the good comments that people have posted.

A nice, small restaurant set off of Xerxes Ave. It's right next to Pizzeria Lola, which was packed to the gills as usual, so we opted for this place. The interior is small but the space is well utilized, it doesn't feel cramped. Among us we ordered roasted cauliflower, beet salad, frog legs, escargot, a chicken dish, and squash raviolis, all of which were good. Some guy next to us kept complaining and sending back his steak frites. You came here and you ordered a steak and french fries bro, how complicated does it have to be? What could really be wrong with it? Point being, the menu has a variety of Frenchified staples, please try something else.

Amazing Valentine's Day dinner starting with the mussels. We shared the beet salad which was small but flavorful. I had the gnocchi with king crab and it was delish.. so was my fiancé's chicken parm entree. Finished with the tres leche cake for dessert. Great ambience and service! We will be back soon.

We have visited this quaint restaurant a few times. It is always SO good. The food and wine is always good. If you have room for dessert, the Tres Leches Cake is the best!
The owner, Ken, helped us select a great red wine. We loved it! It went perfectly with our dinner. The pork was wonderful. Don't forget to order the truffle fries and steak tartare!

We came for our wedding anniversary dinner, excited by the high ratings.  Maybe we hit an off night, but just did not find it up to all the hype.  Nice, casual atmosphere, good service, easy city parking.  The food was really good in some areas, not as good in others, thus the overall 3 star rating.  We started with the Beet salad and a Caprese salad.  The beets were quite good and came with a generous amount of blue cheese, but that was it.  It could have  used a third ingredient as partway through, I got tired of just eating beets. The Caprese salad was tomato and mozzarella with pesto.  In addition to the oil in the pesto, there was a fair amount of olive oil added, which made it too oily.   For our entrees, we had the Seafood stew, which contained possibly the best mussels we have ever had, and the Chicken breast, which was fine though very basic.

Delicious--perfect date night or catch-up-with-a-friend spot. Absolutely love the steak frites. Our waiter was so sweet: when he found out my 12yo son was studying French, he invited us to come back and meet the chef. A delightful dinner, but be warned: it's spendy ($100 for the two of us, including dinner, dessert, glass of wine and tip).

The best I can say is that it wasn't too bad. That's not high praise. The high point was the caesar salad which was fine. But the steak frites were meh. The stead wasn't great quality and the fries weren't nearly crispy enough. I've had steak frites dozens of times and have never had a filet. That's not traditional, since a filet isn't the most flavorful of cuts. In short, the place isn't very French at all.

The setting was fine, but nothing special. Nor was it romantic. It looked like it had maybe been a casual burger place or even a breakfast place that had been converted to a French restaurant.

The desserts were vaguely French. Just not classic or excellent.

We shared a bottle of Malbec that was $38. That's not a huge amount, so perhaps I shouldn't have expected it to be drinkable. But the waiter should have offered a replacement when I took a sip and made a face. When diners leave most of a bottle of wine, it's nice if the server can be proactive. But the guys seemed merely pleasant, not old hands.

Clearly, I wouldn't go back. But my friends who don't dine out a lot claimed they really enjoyed it. I suppose it's a matter of expectations. Mine were too high for Cavé Vin.

You have to get the mussels with frites! It's arguably the best mussels i have gotten in minneapolis. The frites was soooooo addicting, i couldn't stop eating them. I really like the pistachio pork tenderloin too. Go to cave vin if you like wine, good food and good vibe.

We stopped in while waiting for a table at Lola next door.  We initially just planned to have a drink, but ended up ordering appetizers.  At first when we sat down at the small bar I thought we might be incongruous with the general clientele, but the employees here welcomed us warmly.  That was much appreciated.  They also didn't care that 3/4 of us ordered beer rather than wine, which is clearly their thing.

We had the Roasted Cauliflower dish, which was tasty but could've used a kick of stronger flavor.  It also was not a big dish by any means; it was gone in a minute or two.  We also had the Baked Bulgarian Feta, which was delicious.  The olive oil really put it over the top and it was creamy and sumptuous on little crostinis.

I would certainly come back to try more of the menu.  I was pleased that they welcomed us so well and the place has a very comfortable and relaxing vibe.  Great service.

Great service and cozy atmosphere. A new venue for three of us and we all made great selections! Rave reviews on the beet salad, encrusted pork tenderloin and crab gnochi. PS The "gardener" acted like he owned the place, really great service!

Great find! They were about to shut the kitchen down; slow night on a Tuesday about 9PM. I am so glad they did not. Really laid back ambiance, attentive service and it was half-price wine (full bottle) night. The later occurs on Monday and Tuesday, so folks that's an excellent reason to go try the cuisine. The cuisine, I had a wonderful salad that featured grapes and roasted walnuts. This was followed by the encrusted pork tenderloin with baby Yukon gold potatoes. It was wonderful. I did not have room for dessert. the menu is not extensive but it promises to find something to please almost anyone.

I called ahead on a Saturday night for 7:00 and they were more than happy to accommodate my wife and I. It wasn't that they weren't busy either, the restaurant was full. The food was very good, the pomme frites were amazing! The staff was very friendly and I can't wait to go back and have a bottle of wine on there patio this spring.

Cave Vin has become a mainstay in our dining toolbox!  We hosted a family celebration for our daughters 30th birthdays there on Friday night and ate and drank all evening - could hardly move when we were finished - and as always the food, the drink, the ambiance, the people were fantastic.

We can't say enough about how wonderful CV is - it's just one of those fantastic places that is consistent and doesn't disappoint - EVER!

The last time I knew I'd see our dear Darshy before she heads East. I didn't get the memo that it was later then planned. That's ok since it was my first visit there and I got to take it all in. I love the colors, very southwest. I don't like to eat late, and I was able to spread out my meal. I hadn't planned on soup, but they have an open kitchen, and what was on the stove was the french onion. It was so light and flavorful. The person who brought it to me couldn't believe someone could eat something that hot that fast. Next would be the calamari, it's light alright, and usually have it plain, but that aioli sauce was ooh la la. Had to get something French in. The small gathering finally arrives 7 ish, and when they had dinner, I had dessert. Creme brulee is my favorite dessert, it was no better than many others, but it was a smaller serving. This is a very cool neighborhood, though I have a feeling they could plant this restaurant anywhere and it would be a draw.

Having used to live around the corner I have really wanted to try this place for years now and finally got a chance a couple of Sat. nights ago.  I'll be honest, though I've wanted to try this place for a while and have heard nothing but good things I was supposed to meet some friends somewhere else that night.  My friends live in Linden Hills and were going to head out to dinner at a local restaurant that doesn't take reservations so we called down to check on how long the wait would be and they told us over 3 hours!  3 HOURS!  I don't want to tell you which restaurant it was but I'll give you a hint, it starts with at "T" and ends with "ILIA."  We called these folks and they were happy to accommodate us!

I am so glad we made it there.  We were greeted by the guy who we spoke with on the phone and he made us more than welcome and welcomed our friends (who just moved to the area) and I with complimentary champagne.  Service was over and above, and the food was amazing.  We started with the mussels and they were fantastic.  I definitely recommend getting some extra bread and soaking up the broth.  We were all over the board with our entrees One of us had a beef dish, one had a vegetarian dish, one had a fish dish and I had the pistachio encrusted pork loin which was cooked to perfection.

Can't wait to try this place again.

We come here often. The mussels are amazing, the best we've ever had--the broth is garlicky and buttery and, well, just delicious. Be sure to get the frites (French fries) with it, they are the best French fries ever and come with home made aioli. Really, this place rocks.

Wow! That was a great meal.

Had to do an update - we've been meaning to check this place out again and we went on a recent Saturday night.

We were seated promptly with menus and given a couple of minutes to look over the menu. Presumably it was one of the owners, came over and offered me a couple different samples of wine - I wasn't sure what to choose, so he brought me the one I was looking at and his favorite. Good thing he brought me his favorite, I did not like the one I chose.

We started with an excellent appetizer of baked feta - it was warm, salty, creamy and way good!

I was going to go with the Salade Printemps, but went with the salad of the day - arugula, watermelon and mint. Oh, it was to die for! I'd never tried a combo like that, but I liked it a lot.

For my dinner I had the Pistachio Pork Tenderloin - no bacon. I'm almost certain it was the best pork tenderloin I've ever had! The pork was juicy and delicious and the pistachios really gave it a great flavor. The fingerling potatoes with a peach sauce were the perfect combination.

My dining partner had a Grilled Flank Steak. I don't eat red meat, but that damn veal Gorgonzola sauce is still making my mouth water. I took home the left overs to eat separately from my pork.

I was full, but took home some of my meal so I could have Tres Leche Cake. Ahh, it was so worth the hour I spent in Boot Camp working it off the next day!

It was great meal with nice atmosphere, but I can't give it 5 stars - it's loud, a little too bright for me, and the rattan/wicker chairs are a little "Golden Girls" sitting on the lanai for me.

    Return trip did not disappoint!

We were invited to a birthday party here last year and had a great time so we to wanted come back for a date.

I have to say out front I do not care for the reservation policy. You call and leave a message. You are confirmed unless you hear back. The food and experience made me forget; so I'm over it.

We had a 7:30 reservation ( I recommend this; you need to call, no on-line reservations) and were seated promptly. Our server came over with menus, water & bread followed shortly after. While were we still looking over the drink menu the owner came over and greeted us and asked if we had any questions about the menu. My dining companion asked about a wine she wanted to try. He explained it was not is favorite, and offered to bring over a sample along with another she might like instead. He was spot on. The wine in question was not good and the recommended wine was good. The french beer he told me about was also good.

We started with a Baked Bulgarian Feta Kalamata that was served with green olives, red bell peppers, capers, olive oil and croutons. I really wanted an appetizer and this fit the bill. I liked the saltiness of the olives that mixed with the cheese.

For a salad I had the beet salad. I love beets! This beet salad consisted of thin sliced roasted beets, with cucumber, Gorgonzola cheese and Dijon vinaigrette dressing. Holy crap that was good. I combined each ingredient in each bite and they all mixed together like a symphony. Dining companion had a salad that was not on the menu; arugula and watermelon. Stay tuned to Yelp for that review.

My entree was the Grilled Flank Steak served with sauteed vegetables and caramelized onion-gorgonzola-veal demi. I normally do not order steak, and for sure a flank steak. It's not my cut of meat. But when I was here last year the I had a different steak and it was fantastic so I went with it. The steak was well prepared. I did not think a flank steak could be so good. I loved it because it was kind of charred on the outside and medium rare and juicy on the inside. The vegetables served with it were outstanding. I can't describe the flavor, but I did get a taste of dill in there. The sauce on the steak was outstanding and mixed well with the veggies.  Dining companion had a pork tenderloin; also stay tuned for that review.

The atmosphere was nice too. Small tables, kind of an intimate setting. There was a small child yelling when we first sat down. Kind of a buzz kill, but that not the restaurant's fault. It was lit up more then there than I remember.

Our server was very friendly, and helpful when it came to ordering. We never waited long for anything and the timing on the food was perfect.

If you are looking for a nice place for a "date night" I recommend Cave Vin.  We were going to hold hands at the table, but we were too busy enjoying the meal.

My fiance and I found this amazing hole in the wall one evening after running errands. I had a "need" for mussels. So we googled restaurants in the area and poof, like magic, Cave Vin was suggested. Wasnt what I would call "in the area" but google seldom is. And they had mussels. Sold. It was around 9pm, the place was emptying (it was a weekday night) but they seated us with a genuine smile. And a love affair was born.
Dan and I got the mussels (perfectly done and not over seasoned,) the caprese salad (their tomatoes were meaty and beefy and peppery, mmmm,) and split a wonderful salmon dish on a bed of risotto (or maybe it was couscous.) That wonderful experience was several months ago, and I thought "Hey, what a great date spot."
But this spot, NOT just for dates. It is perfect for tired and ravenous fathers and out of town aunts!
Once again, 9 pm, a Friday night though. The place was crackin. They sat us inside, it was noisy and smelled delicious. At my dads request they moved us outside so we could hear each other think, which took a while but was ABSOLUTELY worth it. I highly suggest patio seating at almost any restaurant.
But the food. The food was once again everything I wanted. My dad and I split the mussels (whereby an immediate mutation took place and my dad was grinning ear to ear), and even my aunt got into the mussel sauce with the hot out of the oven bread. Heck, I even saved the sauce for my steak later on. THAT is how good their mussels are here.
Positives: My aunt had a delicious goat cheese field green salad, the dressing was light and the greens were fresh. My dads seafood risotto was the winner at out table for entrees (delicious garlic essence, perfectly cooked risotto, fresh seafood). My steak, ordered medium rare, came out quite rare, but the meat was so tender and delicious I just kept on enjoying it rather then send it back. My aunt, not a fries kind of lady at all, RAVED (and ate) the fresh cut pomme frites that came with my steak.
Negative: My aunts calamari was a little under cooked (that is the first time I have ever had a negative comment about calamari being undercooked- usually its fried too hard) but the garlic aioli was good.
Dessert: We certainly didnt "need" to have dessert, but does anyone? So we did. Along with a pleasing cup of chamomile for my aunt and I (and espresso for the not so grumpy anymore father figure) we split their apple tart and creme brulee. Their creme brulee was good, the apple tart wasn't bad. (I would skip the dessert and try more appetizers next time I think)
The service here though? The best Ive had in Minneapolis. Theres this one guy. You'd swear he was the owner, but he isnt. Talk about having pride and taking ownership for the establishment you work for. I can really get behind a restaurant where the servers truly appear to enjoy their job, and aren't just pasting on a smile to get a tip.
The best part though? Its like a fancy shmancy establishment with amazing food that you can be comfortable in while wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

Cave Vin is a short drive yet we don't frequent the restaurant. The food is good, consistent quality but the atmosphere could be improved. They would benefit from a rethinking of the layout and decor, especially with regard to the front of the building; customers should be able to see that a restaurant is busy. This will draw in new business. It's a good lesson that the eating experience extends beyond the plate.

Fresh ingredients, people watching, good almost-every-day food, wine, and it's relaxing comfort food in a very cute cafe/restaurant.

I love how the food is simple and straight forward.  The presentation is rustic but clean.  Everything was cooked well and tasted good.

We had the Beet Salad, Shrimp Penne Pasta, Grilled Flank Steak, Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast, and dessert.  The flank steak was succulent and grilled with skill, but it was a little on the salty side.  The beet salad was a bit disappointing because the price didn't match the product at all.  The pastas were good.  We had no room for dessert, but we had it anyway, totally worth it!

The food at Cave Vin is not mind blowing, but it's not pretentious or cheap either.  It's quality ingredients, prepared and cooked well, to make satisfying and soulful dishes.

Here's a hearty shout out to all the Yelp reviewers who wrote with candor and passion about your experiences here. Choosing to rely upon your tastes, we chose to follow your lead and go here for our anniversary dinner. This leap of faith required cancelling a revered reservation at an 'au Currant' top-five establishment. Thank you. This place is a new favorite!

The food is excellent, fresh and very well prepared.  While un-pretentious in decor, the real star is the food. We enjoyed the mussel starter, tossed baby lettuce salad and braised short ribs. I loved the pistachio crusted pork tenderloin.

Wine list leans towards France but you'd expect that here. A nice "trip" to France without the airfare. Prices are great, as is the service.

As MacArther once said..."We will return"!

I came to Cave Vin on the wrong night. I was trying to eat lightly.

This just in: French food is not light.

So rather than torture myself, I got what I wanted... the cheesy, croutony, salty carmelized onion soup. Hot DAAAMN---it hit the spot.

I did go lighter on my entree with a salad that seemed very much like one that I ate while in Paris (greens, roasted grapes, hazelnuts, warm goat cheese and vinaigrette). It was good, but next time I'll go for and entree... like steak frites or whatever else might be on their rotating menu at the time.

I was snagged a taste of the escargot that came around during the first course. I haven't had it in a while, but I've actually eaten escargot more often than the average non-fancy pantsy person and Cave Vin's version was perfect. I agree with Melanie L that it might be a "gateway mollusk" for snail-virgins. I also tried a bite of dessert (not good for the eat-right plan!) and enjoyed the staff's demeanor very much.

The price points are up there (entrees around $20) so I'll save this for a special date night. When that time comes though, it's good to know I'll get what I pay for at this warm and fuzzy neighborhood bistro.

Cafe Vin is a restaurant that is in a rather unassuming locale. The interior is warm and welcoming, and sets the tone for a comfortable meal.

We started out by ordering calamari, and that was not incredibly impressive. It tasted like calamari that was deep fried, and the sauce was tasty but nothing that was particularly noteworthy.

My entrée was a butternut squash ravioli, and it was quite delicious. I would recommend this dish to vegetarians. My bf's entree was a Parmesan encrusted chicken breast that was atop a tomato based marinade with gnocchi. His dish was definitely a five out of five, and out of all the dishes I saw surrounding me, the chicken dishes were most appealing. We finished our meals with a trois lait cake (essentially a tres leches cake) and that was the perfect ending to a very enjoyable meal.

I would recommend this restaurant for a group outing or for a romantic date. The ambiance really makes this a calm and laid back atmosphere - definitely a restaurant worth trying out! Finally, the menu changes on a daily basis so I am definitely going to go back on another day to see what they serve next.

Of course, I should state...that I was a fan of Cave' Vin before I even went.  Seeing as how it is owned by one half of the original Pane Vino Dolce...it had to be good.  And the Pecorino packets...TO DIE FOR.  They're Just like they were at P.V.D.  Perfect.

    Ok, ok...I've strayed.

So, like I was saying...Cave' Vin had been long on my list of MPLS spots to dine at.  Why I haven't made it can be attributed to a laundry list of unimaginable excuses.  This, I assure you.  But, upon a dear friend's invite to join in celebration the wedding of some other dear friends, I could wait no longer.

Walking in, I was relieved to find the space small in size yet spacious in it's vibe.  And, dark.  All good restaurants have at least one thing in common, they're dark for dinner.  No exception here.

It started with Pecorino Packets, cheese and salami plates, frog legs and steak tartare.  All perfect in their own regard.  I could have gone on to rounds 2, 3 and 4 of just apps alone...but had to man up and order an entree.

    Enter the pistachio pork tenderloin:

I had had this just once before, from a friend.  (his was so close in presentation I wonder if he was copying?)  To say this was "good" would be an misinterpretation of the sort of gibberish language that my belly speaks to itself, and occasionally, me.  I was already at FULL when this plate of pork and potatoes showed up in front of me but I knew it was a task that was not to be failed that laid in front of me.  Between bites of trying other dinner goer's meals I somehow managed to scarf all my dinner away.

    Somehow.

This is as good as it gets in the twin cities.

I found Cave Vin - in the Minneapolis Restaurant week. After eating out every night, and organizing where and when we would eat, I gave up - and resorted to the boy - "EH, You find a place."

I'm sure he probably reviewed every restaurant that we didn't visit, and probably asked every person he could find for recommendations [maybe he should just start yelping!]

So, one of his friends told him about Cave Vin if she loves french food she'll love Cave Vin. And then, he paused [ see, I know him so well, that I know he paused] "she may like French food, I don't know"
Don't you love aloof boys? Oh aloof boys.

"Good news hun! I've found a place!" and skeptically I glanced, "you did reserve dinner then, right?" "I was thinking you would work your magic on open table.

Cave Vin - actually isn't on open table which puts people like me, those tech savvy - can't-live-or-do-anything-without-their-phone-people not at ease.
    "How will we make reservations?"
"Er, the good old fashion way - we called."
And got a Vmail, in which we left our details for someone to call us back.

It seemed like a little bit to much trouble to reserve a table, but I'm an avid reserver because I. Hate. Waiting. Like no body's bidness.

Cave Vin - is situated in a quite, petite neighbourhood - oddly it reminded me of Pierre Bistro, which I think is on the same caliber of Cave Vin.
We missed the restaurant, because it's slightly dimly light, and well, missable!

At first, when I arrived I wasn't too impressed with this restaurant, the wait staff seemed a bit aloof.

It's the FOOD and WINE that won me over, I won't call this a French restaurant, not even by a long stretch - we had mussels in garlic, white wine sauce and calamari for appetizers. And our entrée were so mouth watering, and flavourful that every bite was a new and unique experience.
Our desserts - were obviously tres leches - because we are tres leches FIENDS.

And, I'll tell you, out of all the tres leches in these two cities, Cave Vin has the best - it's how tres leches was supposed to taste!

The ambiance of this place is very cute and romantic, but a large group can also if you must, fit just fine here.

So, I'll say that the food here is incorrectly categorized - it should be [new] American.

At the end of the meal, we had the pleasure of meeting with the owner - who explained the care and love he puts into this restaurant.

It's evident - it's one of those rare finds in Minneapolis that took my breath away and everything is reasonably priced!

I only have infinite love for this place!

So, yelpers I want you to run AWAY from this place, so that this rare find can be just mine =)

My two most recent dinners here were fabulous! Easily deserving a 5-star rating.

Both times, I came on a night when they offered half price wine. The wine list is very reasonably priced anyway. The half-priced offer just makes it all the more appealing.

While the overall menu is somewhat limited, there's enough variety to appeal to any taste. There are 2 steaks, lots of fish and seafood, and a good selection of poultry. The appetizers are very creative, and if you can't decide, the salads are a good, reliable choice.

On my winter visit, with a co-worker, we arrived fairly early. By the time we were done, the place was full. This spring, my wife and I went after her piano recital (teacher, not performer). This time, the 'crowd' never showed. We chatted with the owner on our way out. He said that on week nights, it's largely a neighborhood crowd. On the weekend, folks come from all over.

As far as I'm concerned, Cave Vin is as good as it gets. I highly recommend it.

Since moving within walking distance of Cafe Vin, it's been on the top of my list of places to try.  Restaurant week came at the perfect time this was my first stop.  I read some of the other yelp reviews decided on the Tartare, Steak Frites and Tres Leches for my selections.  My buddy ordered the Calamari, Pork Tenderloin and also the Tres Leches.  I tried everything except for the Tenderloin.

The Tartare was a little intimidating with the raw egg and meat combo.  I didn't expect that I would enjoy it very much but it was delicious.  The Calamari was cooked very well.  It's hard to find a place that can prepare any Calamari dish without overcooking and making it too chewy.  These were lightly breaded and fried to perfection.  Both entrees were excellent and the Tres Leches didn't disappoint either.

With the quality of food and service here, I'm not surprised to see them succeed.  Glad to have them in the neighborhood.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. It is a higher dining experience without the pretense. I also think that for the quality of the food, the prices are very reasonable. The wine list is small, but very interesting. The entrees on the menu are always changing, so it keeps it inter sting. I love their beet salad - truly one of the best! As is the case with many smaller restaurants today, they seem to be struggling a bit, so please go and check them out soon.

How had I let Cave Vin fall off my radar? It had probably been close to a year since I'd been to this charming french bistro located next to Xerxes Market.

Their steak tartare is my personal favorite in the city, although my table mates preferred 112s (I think Cave Vin's is a truer representation of the dish).

We had the steak frites, the fig and goat cheese salad, mussels and hailbut with lump crab meat. everything was great, but I thought the halibut was a bit overcooked, but I'm notorious for preferring my fish more medium rare.

Useful tip: On Mondays and Tuesdays they have 12 price bottles of wine.

Cave Vin is delicious! I've been there twice and haven't been let down. I am not a frequent meat-eater, but the steak almost makes me carnivorous....And the pot de creme is fantastic, too. The dim lighting and warm yellow walls are prefect for a long, relaxed meal, but I am not a fan of the seating arrangements as a whole--they are long benches with tables placed maybe 1-2 feet apart, so I always feel a little too close to the other diners.

I love Cave Vin!  This is a little restaurant that serves french food!  I love there escargot, garlic fries, and beet salad.  Everytime we go here, my husband orders the rack of lamb(its a special - if it is not sold out) and I have the roasted chicken - the best I have every had.  The steak frites is also good!  They have a cute little patio with wild artichokes growing in the planters.
The wine list is reasonable with many good choices.

    I can't wait to go back -

For the best steak frites in the Twin Cities (and as good as we have had anywhere), Cave Vin is it! The service is superb, and the wine list includes a number of reasonably priced, excellent choices.

The steak tartare alone is worth a visit....I enjoyed it even more than the steak tartare I had in Paris.  It comes with an egg yolk on that you break and let drizzle over the top, along with chopped up onion, capers, and pickles (cornichons) that you spread on crunchy little crostini.  Mmmm.

And I disagree with the reviewers who say this place "nothing special."  I took my husband here for his birthday and we felt like we had found this sweet little spot tucked away in a south Minneapolis neighborhood.  True it doesn't have jaw-dropping ambiance, (it doesn't look like much at all from the outside) but it is cozy and our waiter was actually very attentive and helpful.  Try it and see what you think.
