My friend and I enjoyed a really wonderful meal at Ciao this evening. It was my first time there and I definately will be returning. The Ciao salad was absolutely delicious. The balsamic dressing was wonderful. I was surprised by the size ( such a large portion).
We ordered a Diavolo  pizza. It was amazing. I was in the Mediterranean over the summer. This pizza reminded me of my vacation. The crust was crispy, light and was hot. The sauce , toppings and mozzeralla cheese  blended together perfectly. The pizza had six large slices for $13.00. Our waiter was charming, polite and engaged in a pleasant conversation with us. I also enjoyed a glass of Cabernet. We ate a bit on the earlier side so the restaurant was not too crowded. It looks like they might play music there.
Next time, I should probably get my own pizza so that I can have some for the following day! Yes, I will be back!! I was very impressed with my meal this evening!!!
Ciao was a great experience for our family in St Louie. We really, really enjoyed it. Â We had five dishes and they all were fantastic. The Ciao Penne was a highlight with its unusually flavorful oil based sauce and snap of heat. The pasta was a perfect al dente (im kinda picky about that) with that firm initial bite. Â Good stuff! Â The pizza was exceptional and you have to try the desserts. We tried both the raspberry sundae and tiramisu and my daughter threatened to lick the plate. The waitstaff and chef were friendly and helpful. Â The decor is a very chic look with some retro thrown in for good measure (perfect for impressing your guests). Loved the booth designs! Â Overall, it was a a five star experience. Ciao, baby!
Review Source:Quite possibly the worst Italian restaurant I've ever been to.
The service was terrible and the food left MUCH to be desired. The whole experience was so bad I almost felt sorry for the owners. The place was completely empty. The decor is weird, awkward and uncomfortable.
Service was slow and rude. The waitress forgot to bring out our salad then acted like I kicked her dog when I politely reminded her. She later admitted she forgot to enter it in to be made.... and then giggled at her mistake.
I've never been more disappointed in a dining experience in my life. Please don't waste your money on this place. Â It's mediocre food, AT BEST and overpriced for what you get.
We really enjoyed it there. Â The place is very pleasant to look at. Â Nice circular bar. Â The food was very good. Â The bruschetta was fine. Â The Ciao salad for $6.00 was a whole dinner plate full of fancy varieties and so worth it, since the balsamic vinegarette was not too strong. I loved the lasagna and my friend loved the salmon. Â A glass of wine was reasonable as were the other prices. Â I'll go back since I am not a vegan.
Review Source:Waitress was a zombie - Â kind of acted like the walking dead.. Her husband and children were hanging out in the booth and ocassionaly he helped her with drink orders. I'd be ok with that in a diner, but didn't dig it here at Ciao.My boyfriend liked his Tilapia enough. The decor/atmosphere (without the kids/family) was nice and There was a mad mix of music that was pretty funny since it ranged widely. I'd have been much happier if there were ANY vegan options besides the Bruschetta which, like my pasta, probably has cheese on it without it being listed on the menu. I'd like to love the place since it's cute and close to home, but with no vegan options and a sulky waitress to boot....I don't think I'll go back.
Review Source:This is a wonderful place with great atmosphere. The food was delightful; wonderful flavor and plenty of it. Everything we tried was really great.
The signature cocktail called the "Ciao" was really good too.
I would highly recommend this restaurant, it has a great European flavor to the food and the decor makes you feel very comfortable.
Don't let one bad egg that could not see past the glitches all new businesses encounter spoil the dozen!! Â Absolutely amazing brick/stone decor. Personal were very friendly, highy accommodating, and outgoing, pizza was delish, and main entrees were spot on! I'm glad we followed our foodie instinct and made the drive! We'll be back soon!
Review Source:The service was truly terrible. There were only two people working in the restaurant - the hostess/waitress/bartender and the chef/manager. The hostess/waitress/bartender did not know what the happy hour specials were, did not know how to discount for happy hour specials at the register, and did not understand that she had not given us the happy hour prices when she came to our table with the bill. Further, she did not know how to turn the lights on in the restaurant and we sat in darkness for almost half our meal. The glass of wine I ordered was from a bottle that had clearly been opened at least two days ago (for non-wine drinkers, this is like drinking a carbonated beverage that has been sitting out for two days).
Given all of this, the chef/manager was apologetic and tried to make the bill right by giving us a discount. This was another problem, though, since he didn't really know how to work the register and couldn't properly discount for the drinks we ordered. I don't know if this is a training issue or if the service staff just wasn't trying.
The only reason I give Ciao two stars instead of one is that the food was actually pretty decent. The pizza dough they use and the method of cooking the dough is very good. The cannelloni I ate had a good flavor. My fiance's dish (penne ciao) was not the best (tasted like canned tomatoes and frozen reheated chicken more than anything). Overall, I would do take out pizza from them again in the future. Definitely will not do dine in again.
