Went here for a show this past weekend.
This place is pretty weird, one of those tap room extensions onto a liquor store.
Tap Room is a strange term though considering they have no taps. That said their beer selection is rather weak as is their liquor selection. The place seems really half assed all together.
I did have a great time here though, but I blame that more on the bands playing than the venue itself.
Its an ok place to see a show but I'd never stop by just for a drink.
Somebody made a mistake. Â Me, Yelp, or Yahoo Maps? Â The ball was dropped.
I zipped up and down Milwaukee Ave a number of times, but could not spot the spot. Â I arrived at the address that I got from Yelp for Crown Liquors, but it was not Crown Liquors. Â Sticks in my craw. Â Get to a place, the street matches, the numbers match, the building doesn't.
I received better directions and finally did get to Crown Liquors. Â No wonder I missed it--a number of times--it's a kind building. Â No bells, no whistles. Â And it's tucked a bit away from Milwaukee Ave., at least the bar is. Â Who knew it was a liquor store and a bar? Â I didn't. Â Might have saved me some pain in da ass if I did.
There was more room in the bar than I expected. Â It's big but plays small, kinda like Toni Kukoc. Â
The men's room. Â I don't think you'll be able to find it unless you're Ponce De Leon.
I drank some cheap beer. Â I also had a "I wish I was someplace else" six dollar cocktail. Â The ladies behind the bar were both back niners, but they moved as fast as they could to toss drinks, so I showed them some love.
I was there for an event, which was great. Â Word around the block is that people play music there. Â It's good for that. Â I don't think they even serve food. Â I'd be surprised if there was a kitchen. Â That would be some real House of Leaves shiz.
Liquor store beer selection, while small, is well curated. For some odd reason, the clerks are always avidly watching Fox News. Must be Cuban owned. As for the back room, a great show space and whoever is booking back there is putting on some good shit. Kind of like Ronny's, without the dirt and much better sight lines for the bands.
