I used to loveee this place! We were here for happy hour almost every wknd and got growlers. Great selection. So bummed lately that the prices have gone up soooo much. Happy hour is still descent but you have to watch what beer you are getting. We used to get out of here with about 5-6 pints and a growler for $20s now we are pushing $40 for the same :( Will still go here sometimes but wish the prices weren't doubled..
Review Source:Make way dukes and duchesses, barons and baronesses: The Daily Growler is the KING of craft beer in Columbus.
With over sixty, six zero, 60, tap handles- there are always 59 tapped kegs of delicious, handmade, lovingly-poured, craft brewed goodness awaiting to tantalize your tastebuds.
The owner, John, is a spectacular man. Friendly and eclectic, John diligently updates the internet with the daily special- a full 64oz growler filled to the brim with delicately fizzing libation.
The Daily Growler functions on an anachronistic "milk man" system that conjures up quaint memories of a time in which I wasn't even conceived. You pay $4 up-front for a growler that you return and swap-out for a fresh, clean one each time. It completely avoids all the craft brewers pretension about growlers being a disgusting, crass disgrace of a receptacle for their prized beverage.
Furthermore, the DG happy hour lasts from 4-8pm offering incredible discounts on pints (50% off) and on the 5oz pours (25% off). So you can go and get loaded off a huge selection when those hard days at the office get you down.
The DG is bring-your-own-food (BYOF) so often times we find ourselves cooking up a great homemade meal and taking it over to the DG to have some great beer to go right alongside it.
DG has plenty of seating compartmentalized into two different rooms- one nearer the bar with long wooden benches and another farther in the back with two large TVs and lightweight, but sturdy machined aluminum chairs.
As a beer aficionado, The Daily Growler has endured many a visit from me now since it opened a short while ago. I am proud to say that it is one of my new favorite places and we'll be making plenty of room for it on the regular around-town rotation.
Great spot for the beer lovers!
This place has some great taps, I could sit and sample all day! You can't beat variety like this, especially with stiff competition from places in the area.
The only downside (and it's not much of one) Â is that this is really a carry out place, and not meant to spend a lot of time drinking in. Seating is limited!
Prices were fairly reasonable.
If you love beer, stop in, but be prepared to get hooked!
We love The Daily Growler! It's a great place to find new-to-you or hard-to-find beers, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. This is now our go-to happy hour spot, and we end up there every couple weeks, even if it's just for one drink on our way to dinner. It helps that it's close to home, and they have half-off happy hour on the constantly rotating 60 taps even on Saturday.
The only negative is that it is often more popular than I think they planned on for the drinking-onsite crowd - if you are coming on a Friday between 5:30 and 7 especially, be prepared to have to hunt for a free table.
A great idea and I like the place, but only makes sense for beers you can't find in bottle. Why pay more for a growler then what you can buy it for in the store? With the ever expanding selection in your local Kroger, Giant Eagle, or whole foods you can find half of the beers in bottle, for less price. With that being said, their daily special is usually a good deal.
Review Source:This place truly is "magical" as a bunch of yelpers have put it. What a great concept!
I absolutely love that they have the 5 oz taster options.
Its not too rowdy and really fun. I love that they have board games! They have a back room with tvs so you can go there and watch the game while having one (or some) of the 60 awesome craft beers on tap.
I would love to come here every weekend and do the same exact thing! Did I mention its very affordable! HAPPY HOUR EVERY DAY 3-7 PM. 1/2 OFF ALL PINTS.
[Note: the interior decor is kind of sparse, which is cool, but they could do with some more comfortable chairs/tables. Maybe some booths?]
[Note 2: Do not go to the greek place next door...YUCK]
The Daily Growler is a magical place. When you arrive there are 60, oh yes I said 60, taps of beer before you waiting for your consumption. If you are staying in to drink they will sell you pints or even 5 oz tastes for fairly decent prices. The beers change often and definitely make it impossible for one to get bored with their selection.
And just when you thought that was pretty cool, as the name suggests they also fill up growlers (64 oz jug things). I have to admit that having this incredibly delicious beer at my disposal when ever I want is probably bad for my health, but my word I do love it.
The atmosphere is also pretty cool. They have captured the whole industrial minimalist thing pretty well and have two separate seating areas. One in the front by the taps, and another backroom that has some screens and such. The back room serves rather well if you are going there with a group. Oh and they also let you bring in your own food due to not having a kitchen of their own. I've noticed a lot of other patrons ordering pizza and the like.
Lastly the service at the bar area is great. The guys up there are polite and decent conversationalists. This matched with what is being sold compels me to make this a return destination.
Okay, so this place is awesome.
Oh? You want more than that? Well, they have a crapload of beers on draft and you can get sample (5 oz) sizes, or pints or growlers of your favorites.
When I walked in I didn't know what I wanted. I asked for something in the porter/stouts range. I got the CBC SOhio stout. It was awesome. And I didn't mean to walk out with a growler but I totally did. This is a place I am going to drag people to.
Daily Growler professes to be a location with a wide variety of good beers and it is exactly that. Â If you are looking for something different, say a 4-star restaurant with a few beers, then you are in the wrong place. Â There is a wide selection of beers from several parts of the country, as well as a good regional selection. Â Beer is cold, available in tasters, pints (on premises consumption) or growlers for take-out. Happy Hour is every day and prices are good. Â This is a one-of-a-kind facility for the area and needs solid local support by the beer community and by anyone who wants to sample and enjoy a good selection. Â Get in there and see for yourself. If you like beer or want to know more about what is available in the realm of beer, this is an excellent place to start. Â For under twenty bucks, you could taste several award-winning beers with coast-to-coast followings and never leave Columbus.
For a place that has only been open a few months, I would say they have hit a good stride for selection, pricing, friendliness. Have patience as it gets going with a few more months of business. Â This is a small business, not a formula-based chain and there will be adjustments made as they grow. Â I was there on a Monday afternoon, so none of the issues with crowding or lines. Â My guess is that on a warm summer Saturday, this place is going to be crowded with people filling up for the weekends. Â The "growler of the day" is a good opportunity to get a fill of something different on a regular basis at a very attractive price.
I am a picky beer drinker. My taste buds are very certain that I don't like hoppy beers. That makes it hard to find a good beer. I do love beer, just not particular flavor profiles. These people took their time to talk to me about each and every beer, I was able to taste them and decide that today my best option was a growler of Wyder's Berry Cider. I am a happy girl.
The seating leaves a lot to be desired, the ambiance stinks, but the beer is cold, free flowing, and it smells like every thing wonderful in there.
This shop/beer hall offers something unique to the Columbus area- it features 60 beer taps stocked with the best craft beers from around the country and beyond, all of which are available in a 5oz taster, 16oz pint, or a 1 gallon growler to go! Â When you walk in the line forms to make your selection, and once you do you can grab a seat in the front seating area or in the back room. Â Bring your empty growler back for a discounted refill. Â Great concept and great happy hour too!
Review Source:What a great idea!! Â 60 or so beers on tap, to go!!! Craft beers from all over the place and a huge variety of tastes from around the country. Â
Interior is spartan, but that's OK. Â I think it is meant to be more of a cash & carry than a hangout. Â Staff was friendly and knowledgeable, but definitely some growing pains. Â The delivery system is slow and seems complicated. Â While we were there, the line was out the door most of the time we were there. Â They need another register or another "waiter". Â Seemed like a lot of workers milling around behind the bar while the line was out the door, but not serving beer and cashing people out.
That said, a pretty awesome venue for beer lovers and I am sure it will get better when the kinks are out. Â Definitely check it out and pick up a growler.
Love The Daily Growler. Been waiting for something like this for a while. The beer selection is good, and as they grow their reputation, I've heard it is only going to get better. The service means well - it takes a while to get through the line, which was also out the door on a Thursday afternoon when I went.
Couple things - need to spruce up the space. I know it's contemporary and minimalist, but throw up some local art or something. Also, need to have table service. With people lining out the door, if you are at a table and want another beer, you pretty much have to go wait in that big line again, which kills all vibes. Lastly, they need a card/chalkboard/something eraseable to give to people when you get a bunch of tasters. There's such a variety it's hard to remember what all 4-6 of them are when you get back to the table!
But the deals are fantastic, as others have captured thoroughly. I will continue to fill up my growlers weekly!
60 beers on tap in a random strip mall in UA? Â Woot woot! Â I was very excited about checking this place out and was not disappointed. Â I was able to enjoy this place during happy hour which I believe takes place from 3-7pm on weekdays. Â The 5oz samplings are 25% off, pints 50% off, and growlers $1 off during this time. Â They also have a daily featured growler for purty darn cheap. Â During my visit it was Bells Pale Ale for $8 a growler! Â
The beers are listed on a some flat screen tvs at the bar. Â They do not have room for descriptions so ask the bartender about the beers or log onto their website for descriptions. Â The atmosphere was simple, inviting, and down to earth. Â A few private tables are scattered about the room and then there's a long communal wooden table with wooden benches. Â I liked their simple graphic orange stripe that can be seen on their signage, walls, glasses, and growlers. Â
The service was good and the staff helpful. Â My only wish was that this place was open beyond 10pm on weekdays and 12am on weekends. Â Anyway I highly recommend checking this place out! Â Grab a pint with some friends or come alone and enjoy reading some issues of The Beer Advocate found along the tables.
First things first. Â Awesome selection of 60 beers on tap, many you can't find anywhere else in Columbus. Â The beers are well cared for and the lines appear to be too... something especially important when you've got this many beers on tap. Â I arrived at opening time on a Friday. Â Within 10 mins the line was from the counter to the door and it stayed that way for over an hour. Â This place has become very popular very quickly and with good reason. Â There's a seating area with 5 four-tops and a long communal table. Â Give this place a try! Â Deducted one star for slow service, but I suspect this is due to unexpected popularity... not lack of service. Would have made it 4.5 stars if I could. Â Might need to staff up a bit, but this is a tricky balance for a new place and I suspect that for a place that has only been open a week and a half the crowd is a pleasant surprise.
Review Source:A growler filling station 10 minutes from my house? How could I refuse?!
I walk in and immediately notice the scent of all things beer. It is what I would imagine a German Oktoberfest would smell like. It is a spartan little place with a long bar and several tables. There are LCD screens displaying all of the beers on tap. Fantastic idea which sure beats an old fashioned chalk board. All of the taps are numbered, so you don't have to say you want the Hoppin Frog Goose Juice. Just tell them the number and they will fill 'er up.
The selection, well, 60 taps is about all you need to say. Phenomenal mix of strong and session beers as well as root beer for the kiddos or DDs.
The Daily Growler will only fill their own growlers, and for good reason. After you purchase a growler you can bring it back and exchange for a clean, sanitized and chilled replacement. Wonderful idea. Those growlers can be difficult to clean, but apparently they have a state of the art growler cleaner.
I've been there twice now and had to wait several minutes for each fill. That is ok though, because they just opened a week ago. There will be growing pains. When I got home, the beer was fresh and delicious. A nice touch is that they post a daily growler deal on Facebook and Twitter. I hope they get their website up and running soon and somehow post a feed to their tap list.
