What a lovely cafe! A friend suggested we catch up over coffee here and I really liked the vibe. I got there early so enjoyed some pu ehr black tea and read one of the natural living magazines they had on display. The server was very friendly and the cafe goers seemed non-pretentious. I haven't had any of the food but it looks worth trying, though nothing mind blowing or particularly original.

The pros: The deluxe breakfast sandwich: tempeh bacon and hot sauce...you can't go wrong. Free wi-fi for customers. Local artwork on the wall.

The Cons (and the reason for the rating!): It is a very small space for my group of people looking for a cafe to work at. The main reason I give this place a 3 out of 5 is for the impatient owner/manager/lady working the register. This was my first time really looking at the menu and it did take me a while to decide what I wanted. The impatient lady was not friendly and was very annoyed that I was taking so long (even though there was no one behind me)...how blasphemous. I later asked if they had open positions for my sister and she was very cold. Even if they did have a position open, I would not want her to work here.

I doubt that I will be coming back. There are plenty of other cafes to choose from.

Great coffee, relaxing atmosphere, good food. The veggie chili is the best.

I love Delicious Cafe!  I've been living in the North Center neighborhood and freelancing for almost seven months now, and Delicious is my jam.  I actually didn't even realize it was a vegan establishment (I don't think many encounter this as there is vegan love written all over it and the food and baked goods are all vegan!) because I was just ordering tea and espresso drinks, which they will make with (organic!) 2% milk - the only non-vegan thing in the place.  I am not a vegan by any stretch of the imagination, but I did appreciate the tempeh bacon because I do not eat pork, and as I only ever buy organic dairy, it's great to find a cafe that does the same.

They are changing the menu up and getting rid of some of the lunch-type items, but keeping most things, including the tasty baked goods.  The have a nice selection of gluten-free/vegan goodies from Bot Bakery.  They make many of their treats in-house - my favorites include the apple pie and pumpkin chocolate-chip cake they had during the fall.

Everyone who works at Delicious is super-friendly, both to customers and to each other - it seems quite collegial around there.  They are nice but quiet, not overly chatty, and it sets a peaceful tone.  The crowd varies depending on the day/time - freelancers like me chained to their laptops, moms and nannies with babies and toddlers, folks meeting friends or work contacts.  You can pretty much always snag a seat and I often share one of the larger tables with other customers.  I don't tend to camp out in cafes, but it seems like some do so at Delicious.  I can't really see the harm as long as they keep buying stuff, as there usually isn't any shortage of seats.  The wireless works great and there's no time limit.

Definitely stop in for great Counter Culture coffee and vegan treats.  Support your independent coffeeshops!

This is a great local place with tasty light fare, delicious beverages, and amazing vegan baked goods. You can tell they care about what they serve to the customers and buy as a business. Staff is friendly but not overbearing or fake. You never get bad looks for staying several hours to study or hang out. An awesome little neighborhood cafe.

Glad to have this as a local. Cute decor, pleasant service, atmosphere and nice food. And I'm not a vegan or vegetarian but I don't even notice when I eat there. Maybe I should become one? Hmmm.

This place was awful. From the reviews I am guessing that it has changed owners. Food was uninspired and bland. Atmosphere was depressing. The baristas looked tired and were unfriendly.

Most of the pictures of food in their yelp profile are studio productions not actual pictures of the food they serve, very deceptive. The coffee was average, but you have to ask for milk, they don't keep it out, just cream. Vegan cafes are not new. Simply having one is not enough, you have to pay attention to customer service and quality. Vegans, you can do better.

Who knew eating  Vegan could taste so good!

I stopped in to Delicious for a quick, healthy lunch.  I am by no means a Vegan or even a Vegetarian, but I figured why not!?   I decided to go with a sandwich: The Andy w/carrots.  The  sandwich was delightfully fresh and flavorful.  Perhaps it was a placebo effect, but I just felt healthier after enjoying this meal.

The atosphere is very relaxing and the service is very friendly.  What a great first time Vegan experience!

Best orange scone I have ever had. I wasn't initially very excited about the orange flavor as the only option, but I couldn't have been more satisfied with the choice. They have ALMOND MILK! my favorite, among many other non-dairy milk choices. The barista was at ease, gentle - refreshing amid the typical pace of life in the city.
I stayed for a while for some studying and indulgence, then continued happily along my day.

Love this place. Great coffee and creative vegan baked goods and sandwiches. They also have a cute little selection of gifts (think things like Meatless Monday bumper stickers). I love the vintage-y vibe and the fact that they have real spoons out to stir your coffee, not those cheesy disposable wooden sticks.

This is a charming little cafe. I've been here a couple of times. The owner is very sweet, the coffee is good, and everything is completely vegan. On my most recent visit I had the Andy sandwich, which has tofurky and guacamole. It was simple but tasty and served with chips. The decor is great, and I love that they carry issues of vegetarian and gourmet cooking magazines for customers to read. There's soft music playing, but otherwise it's very quiet, which makes it the perfect place to read or get work done. They sell a broad selection of tea and vegan sweets. I think this is a cafe that everyone, vegans and meat eaters alike, can enjoy.

I was strolling down Chicago's wonderfully cultural and diagonal Lincoln Avenue pondering the thought of where to grab lunch.  Yelp just so happened to have a Yelp Deal at Delicious Cafe of $7 for $12 worth of goodies.  I stepped in and the decor freakin' adorable made me smile and remind me of my youth: Antique tables and chairs which don't match (yet somehow 'work'), local art juxtaposed with the bright blue walls, and colorful flowers on every table.  I have to give credit to a successful cafe selling only vegan/vegetarian food.  It's not an easy feat in this carnivorous world of ours!  So how was the food, you ask?  Um...well...it was...Delicious!  I think it's name describes it well.  I ordered the T.B.L.T. sandwich: Wheat bread with mayo, greens, tempeh bacon and tomato slices.  I couldn't believe how much the tempeh actually maintained the smoked bacon flavor!

For my fellow tea lovers, they sell Rishi Tea (which I especially love because 1) it sounds like my first name; 2) It's headquarters is located in our friendly neighbor of Milwaukee).  This tea is high quality organic and Fair Trade Certified loose-leaf teas found from all corners of the world, not to mention tasty.  While I was tempted to get tea, I was hot after walking to Trader Joe's from my Ravenswood house and I need a refreshing smoothie.  I went with the Purple Cow smoothie composed of Hemp Protein Milk, Blueberries, Bananas and who knows what else!  It was quite tasty, beyond the uniquely sweet protein milk which was new to me.  I could have gone with almond, coconut or soy milk, but figured what the recipe named would be the best choice.  It hit the spot.

I hope to come back here just for their delicious-looking desserts made in-house (or a few gluten-free treats from Bot Bakery, vegan desserts from Sweet Cakes Bakery and gluten-free cookies from Liz Lovely).

As a side note, they offer their patrons free Wi-Fi (under SSID: tetrisface), however, the connection seemed to drop often.  For those with AT&T, their 3G signal is horrible so you'll need to make calls outside.  Oh and keep your eyes open for their Bingo Nights between 8-10 pm which helps a local charity.

Great cafe, great food. I've been popping in here about once a week since the ownership changed, and did stop in sort of infrequently before that. The food menu changed for the better after the changeover, soup being the thing that I was always left wanting. I've tried most of the soups and they are all fantastic and flavorful! The sandwiches are very tasty, and when in season, the soup and sandwich is a great deal and will fill you up. I wish they had cold soup during the summer - maybe something to consider.

The pastries are all top-notch and you would never know they are vegan. I'm a lacto-ovo pescetarian who eats mostly veggies, so this is the perfect place for me.

The coffee is Counter Culture and is very tasty. The bottomless cup went away, but a free refill and then dollar refills will have you crawling on the ceiling anyway, and the price is nice, so what's not to like?

Everyone who works here is really nice. It's quiet sometimes, but I never feel like I'm breaking some sort of library-like silence if I cough or scoot my chair or drop something. The music is fantastic, and is one of the draws that keeps me coming back.

Headphones are recommended for avid students who can't handle background noise from the occasional cabin-fever laden stroller moms who will infrequently stop in with kids. Please, dispense with the dirty looks and put on your headphones if you can't handle the occasional conversation is what I say and what I generally live by.

Definitely check this joint out if you live nearby or are going to be in the neighborhood!

We just slipped in here for a place to cool off and a cold drink, and found ourselves sitting and chatting for an hour.  The non-dairy milk options are FANTASTIC, and the unique syrup combinations enticed me to follow my coconut-milk iced coffee with a cardamom lemon soda - both were ideal on the 102-degree afternoon.  I picked up a half-pound of the locally-roasted Counter Culture coffee just to make some cold brewed joe to tide me over until another trip to Chicago - this place will definitely be on my list!

I just walked over here from the studio I was working at to get a much needed snack and iced mocha, but it quickly turned into lunch and dessert!

I started with the Andy, which is a sandwich consisting of sliced tofurkey, guacamole, tomatoes and cucumbers served on toasted sourdough aka DEEELISH!!

I decided to grab an iced mocha with skim to wash the sandwich down and add a little kick to my step. My ice-cold beverage was prepared and served in no time flat and wasn't overly sweet like Starbuck's take on things.

Lastly, I had to get a cinnamon bun and I'm glad I did! Just the right texture and gooeyness to make it a very satisfying choice.

Definitely recommend this quiet, little gem to anyone in the North Center/Lincoln Park area in search of a no nonsense caffeination station with tasty eats and friendly staff to boot.

They make an awesome latte.  I love it.  I don't drink a lot of them because milk bothers my stomach...but I had a taste for one this morning.  Nice place to hang out at too.

Great for vegans, different non-milk choices and such.  Salads and sandwiches would be a sweet addition to the menu.  I can dig it.

Strong coffee, vegan food, good music. Three very important things. Delicious is such a welcome addition to the neighborhood! Their breakfast sandwich is bomb city and their other lunch-y sandwiches and things are good, too. I usually go for the Counter Culture coffee, but when I'm feeling adventurous, the matcha latte is where it's at.

Top secret: they've got a back patio! It's cute, especially for someone who doesn't have a back patio to call my own. A delightful place to spend time.

What a fantastic neighborhood spot! I love coming here to study, especially when I have all sorts of sweet treats to motivate me through ridiculous psychotherapeutic methods papers. DC's cupcakes have been some of the best I've had in the city, I honestly can't believe there's no butter or eggs in any of them. I was also blown away by their red velvet whoopie pies, mmmm.

Other favorites include iced coffee, soy lattes, and matcha green tea lattes.

Also, you gotta love a place that plays Jenny Lewis, LCD Soundsystem, and Radiohead.

    Vegan delight!

Delicious cafe is in a neighborhood around many thrift stores for furniture and art. And, I recently enjoyed a perfect afternoon scouting and stopping here for a cup of cappuccino. The cafe itself is very colorfully decorated which gave it a very Santorini'esque feel. I was also tempted to try some of their baked goods. I got a muffin and a scone (Can't remember the flavors off the top of my head!) but both were delicious. Will have to come back to try some of their sandwiches which have gotten rave reviews.

I worked in an independent coffee shop for almost 6 years and have tried no less than a dozen different coffee houses since moving to Chicago, attempting to recreate that flavor. From Intelligentsia to Kickstand to Red Eyes to Savor the Flavor. (I'm not going to count Starbucks, Caribou, or Peet's.) Nothing has completely satisfied my craving for a strong vanilla americano, though Intelligentsia's was pretty good. I don't mean that I've never had great coffee in the city. This is strictly a matter of personal preference and the way I like my drinks to taste.

First, Delicious uses Monin flavored syrups, which is my all-time favorite. I actually started purchasing it in bulk online to make my coffee at home because I don't care for any of the brands (Torani, DaVinci, whatever Starbucks uses) I've had at other coffee houses. Second, they use a manual machine, and the shots were perfectly timed. The drink I got this afternoon was smooth, creamy, sweet, and had beautiful crema on top. When I tasted, I almost squealed with delight.

The same young woman has helped me both times I've been there and she's friendly. When I went to Kickstand in Lakeview a couple of weeks ago, the mustachioed hipster at the counter could not have been any less interested in my presence.

The space is really small, but cozy with several tables. There's also art (presumably for sale) on the walls from local artists, as well as cards, mugs, and little gifts that seem to be handmade by locals, as well.

I haven't tried any of the food, so I can't in good conscience give Delicious Cafe 5 stars. However, with just the coffee, I am super satisfied.

I love my meat. I don't particularly care for this place being vegan. Why did I come here and what has made me keep coming back? Simple, their drink selection/quality and service. I mean that's what I signed up for right? A cafe... where food is just the icing on the cake.

The owner (from what I am led to believe is the owner) is friendly and mild mannered. She's given me a discount here and there for coming in semi-regularly. Her Americanos seem to be one of the best in town. They also carry Sencha green tea and serve it in bodum glassware. As a student of design, I have to appreciate them carrying bodum glassware.

I feel like they carry Gyokuro as well, I'll have to go back and see. If they do, I'll have try it and see if I can update this to 5 stars. :)

Good coffee (in a mug if you like)
    Friendly hipster/tattooed barista's
    Tasty vegan food

Atmosphere - bright and friendly.  I wouldn't say cozy.  Not couches or anything like that.  Lots of cute art on the wall and some flowers sprinkled around tables in the room.  Lots of tables...good place to get work done.

$14 for vegan corn chowder with delicious pita chips, a grilled cheese sandwich, an almond milk tasty tasty chai, two mini cupcakes, a mini cookie, and a whoopee pie. (Don't judge me! Vegan means no calories, right?)

The staff are really friendly and helpful, free wifi, comfy cozy atmosphere, nice music, adorable vegan goodies/wear, and did I mention it lives up to its name? :) Wunderbar!

Ok, human life was finally present the last time I came here (the last few times I came they were closed during business hours). The ambiance was a let down..I don't know why, but it wasn't cozy or calming. It was eerily quiet and cold, and I felt more awkward than awkward turtle. Maybe awkward elephant. Or giraffe. The lady was also eerily quiet--she was nice enough, but kind of spacey and spoke in that "I'm talking to you kindly, but secretly I'm a mass murderer" kind of voice. Case and point: Not somewhere I'd want to study or have an intimate luncheon with someone.

The only reason I'm bumping this place up to 3 stars is b/c the grilled cheese was not half bad. In fact it was half good. It was my first experience with cashew cheese and I must say I'm a fan.

I'd come here for take-out or to grab a cup of coffee to-go. But to avoid increasing my awkward levels (which are naturally high), I would not dine in.

Delicious, you are so not--wait for it, wait for it--delicious.

We picked up both your mini brownie and mini cupcake today in hopes of being blown away. While the mini brownie wasn't bad (it was rich, but I wouldn't wake up craving it in the night), it didn't knock my socks off, either. And each one was a buck! Come on...for a buck a piece, you've gotta wine and dine me a little here. The cupcake--and I don't know what it was, really (spice? pumpkin? something of that nature?) was flat out awful. The frosting was so crunchy it crumbled in my mouth and the cake itself...just...no.

Pass. Out of all the vegan cupcakes we've tried, this was our least favorite.

I recently switched from being simply dairy free to a full out vegan and am making it my business to check out local vegan places in the near future. Delicious Cafe is really close to where I nanny, and I had a few hours to waste today before work so I stopped in.

The girl behind the counter was nice, but not overly nice. I happen to love talking to strangers and she wasn't all about that at first, but by the time I bought my coffee to go before leaving she was asking me questions and we had a nice little chat.

I started with a nice hot americano. They have some foods there (bagels, pastries, grilled cheese, soup - all vegan) but I had brought a lunch with this morning and was planning on eating it once I was done hanging out at Delicious. I had some homework with me and did that while sipping on my americano (Which was about as good as americanos get - really good!).

I decided to ask about what kind of soup they had, because if it was worth is I was going to be willing to save my lunch for another day and eat at Delicious. It was Cream of Red Pepper and the girl behind the counter offered to let me try it. Long story short, I asked for a small helping of the soup (not the entire 12 oz) and in return she took 50 cents off the price (which I was totally not expecting). Usually it's $4 for a nice serving of soup with either bread or pita chips, which is totally fair for what turned out to be DELICIOUS and filling homemade vegan soup!

Once I was done with homework, I decided to look over the copy of VegNews they had in their magazine rack (Along with other good reads) for the remainder of my time there.

Overall, I found the coffee and espresso to be very high quality and the soup was great too - also everything is quite fairly priced. The other customers were extremely friendly and nice to be around. All in all I had a lovely first experience at Delicious and certainly plan on spending time there with my computer and homework in the very very near future!

I have to downgrade Delicious Cafe. While I still think it's a cool coffee shop with a nice vibe, I find the food here to be extremely overpriced.

Their vegan breakfast sandwiches are, without question, the best I've had (it should be noted that vegan breakfast sandwiches are generally hard to find, as well), but they cost nearly $5 for basically six or seven bites of english muffin, tempeh bacon and some nut cheese. Granted, these are expensive ingredients; but it ends up feeling like a luxury splurge of a snack.

The sandwiches are so tiny as to not comprise any type of value. If they could bring down the cost to around $3 I'd be back every day..

That said, Delicious Cafe still has a great selection of loose-leaf teas and I love the serene and quiet atmosphere of the cafe. This is a great place to read a book, chat with a friend or just sit and drink a cup of hot tea.

We went to Delicious Cafe because we read, in VegNews, that it was the place to go in Chicago for vegan grilled cheese sandwiches. Well, it was.

It was quaint, kind, artsy, and delicious! It's not so much a restaurant as a coffee/tea and sandwich bar. It's kind of a vegan Starbucks but with some sandwiches that are fabulous. It's cozy. There were many people there with their laptops, sipping a tea or coffee, and munching on some food. There were couches and a bar facing out (that's where we sat).

The food comes out fairly quickly and I was so surprised at how the vegan grilled cheese really tasted like grilled cheese. We later found out that they sell their cheese online. Pretty kickin'!

The prices are reasonable and we walked away full and with a fresh back of fruit tea leaves.

Next time we're in Chicago, we will go again!

I honestly don't "get" this cafe. I remember reading in Time Out Chicago that someone had voted the owner as one of their favorite baristas and I can't understand for the life of me why. THis place has zero personality! The owner has waited on me every time and seems so absolutely indifferent to her customers that I almost felt like a sucker for giving her my money.

And $7 for a "BLT" and a handful of veggie chips? No thank you! The only thing going for this place is their vegan/gluten free goods but the crappy classical music, rude staff, and dark and dreary atmosphere are three reasons I won't be back.

A few times I've been lucky enough to come here and get a breakfast sandwich on a bagel. And when I did, it pretty much made my day: Such good food, cute indoor and outdoor seating, good coffee, even some boardgames, nice decor, good music. But especially amazing food.

The reason I don't often come, though, is that they always seem to be out of everything.

    Or closed.

A whole bunch of times I've tried to bring friends here, but it's always awkward when it seems like in the early afternoon, they don't really have any food left. Like, but you're running a cafe! Having the five food items advertised on your board in stock is the whole point! Sigh.

Delicious is a vegan cafe. Which is cool, because even though I am not a vegan, for the most part I enjoy the food.  But I was not here for food, I was here for coffee. In particular, the Slow Brew (aka pour over).

Its a good thing I wasnt here for the food, because first of all, there didnt seem to be any (case was shockingly empty for noon on Wednesday) and secondly, the seating areas seemed rather uninviting and uncomfortable. I get the look the are trying to go for - a haphazard mix of eclectic vintage furniture and art, but it wasnt working for me.  The giant painting of the inside of a dumpster was interesting for the first 3 minutes I stared at it, and then I realized all I had to do was go outside and walk around to the alley if I wanted more of that experience.

But back to the coffee. Very excellently brewed, and whatever "cream" they had really was a perfect compliment to it (obviously wasn't dairy, and didn't taste like soy...almond milk maybe?)

Didnt experience any of the surly service or blasting music issues some have mentioned - but maybe that's the bonus of going at noon on a Wednesday.

I'm about as carnivorous as they come. Chicken, pig, cow, duck, lamb, rabbit - even whale and puffin - if it once scampered through a forest, grazed in a field, swam in the ocean or flew in the sky, I'll probably eat it. But this place was near my lunch spot, so I stopped in to have a coffee and get some work done on the free (yay!) wi-fi.

My latte was damn tasty, prices were reasonable, and staff was helpful. I didn't try any of the vegan goodies, but I actually might (okay, not the cashew "cheese" - there's something very wrong about nut cheese) next time I come by to do some work - which I plan to do as soon as they open up their sidewalk patio.

    Delicious if you are vegan.
    Most definitely.

If you are not vegan? Well, still pretty A-Ok as far as coffee shops go.

    The perks:
*Cold kombucha (grape and tea flavors)
    *Intelligentsia brews
    *Large tea selection.
    *Etta James
    *Clean
*Close to Zulu where my dog gets her groom on.

    The drawbacks:
*No salads? Huh? Salads are vegan if you want them to be!
*Seemed to be more of a hangout for employees. I was outnumbered 4:1 for a long while, and it was...sort of awkward.
*Staff not overly friendly/helpful with suggestions.
*Soy latte was sort of lukewarmish.

Love the space and it's def a vegan haven, but the vibe (and coffee temps) need a little work....

Vegan? Macrobiotic? Or just a full-fledged free-lovin' hippie? Then Delicious Cafe is your spot.

Right now, I'm listening to a tarot card reader talk to a client about Olivia Newton-John doing aerobics in THAT leotard... you know the one. Interesting indeed.

Between the gauzy curtains, wall tapestries and the unfinished floor, you'll definitely feel like you're in Jerry Garcia's basement. The food is all vegan, and you won't find any unnatural products here (only real and raw sugar... no Splenda!).

My latte was served in a real mug with picturebook swirled presentation. And more importantly, it tasted good! For lunch, I tried a breakfast sandwich served on an English muffin with vegan turkey sausage, a tofu egg and nut Gouda 'cheese'. Not bad, friends.

The wi-fi is free and the eavesdropping is guaranteed to entertain... ah, it sure made for a fascinating Tuesday afternoon!

Awesome little place!  I was walking home with a friend from downtown (loop to lincoln square) from work the other day, and we decided to duck in here for a last minute pick me up to get us home.

The place was very clean, and the server was very fast and friendly.  The only draw back was that they put the cream/milk in for you and they used WAY too much..  Other then that, I would go back if I was in the area, and probably stay in the shop to enjoy my cup-o-joe.

    eeeeeeeeeeeee!!! I love this place!

The espresso drinks are prepared with love and skill. And so are the baked goods! The last time I walked in, they were munching on cookie dough and frosting these warm gooey chocolate chip cookies for sandwiches -- so of course I had to get one and omg their vegan pastries are so much better than anything I've ever had outside my kitchen. and smores!! and teeny cupcakes! yay!

They don't charge extra for soymilk and have a great selection of other non-dairy milks. The nut cheeses are so wonderful. The staff is friendly and helpful. Please check them out, you won't be disappointed.

Fourth times a charm- I finally gave up on trying to come on the weekends (because it never seemed to be open) and scheduled a lunch meeting here instead. Yeah, I'm slow like that sometimes.

But great expectations doth shall be met!

Vegan Egg salad sandwiches, vegan make your own sandwiches, breakfast bagels with tofutti and veggies, plus lots of baked goods, drinks, and other fabulous eats that I can't wait to try next time.

Lunch Meeting #2 is just BEGGING to be scheduled.
