This is a really awful bar. We came on a Saturday night  at 11:30 and it was crazy. We wanted to go to the rooftop bar and waited in line about 45 minutes to do so. It was my cousins' birthday, so of course we waited.
The rooftop is nice, and maybe this bar is okay on a slower night. The bartenders were very unfriendly. We just stood there for 5 minutes while a bartender just stacked glasses right in front of us, not paying us the time of day. Prices are somewhat reasonable and you do need a $20 minimum for credit/debit.
The bathrooms are disgusting and if you need to pee while you're on the rooftop, you're out of luck. We asked the door-guy if we could go downstairs to pee and be let back up, and he couldn't give us a straight answer, but said probably not. Only one stall was actually working and the other was over-filled with puke, pee and poop. Basically everything that can possibly come out of you. The "working" stall was gross and didn't have TP.
I think I'm getting way too old for Hoboken bars.
Nice hang out bar in Hoboken. Â Nothing spectacular but a good place to just hang around with friends, have some drinks and eat some bar food. Â There are three levels, the rooftop bar is not very big but is great on a nice summer day. Â I ordered the steak sandwich and some fries, my friend got a salad and chicken wings, both meals were good. Â
The second level of the bar has a dart board which can be cool if it doesn't get too crowded. Â I wouldn't mind stopping into The Dubliner again, but I also wouldn't be upset if I didn't.
I would give this place a solid 3.5
Its a cute like Irish bar/pub. They have some good beer specials. What I do love is the rooftop! Its a nice spot to stop and get some drinks. On the first floor, its a small area, but they also have a cute little private area right near the entrance where you can sit and have a good conversation with someone.
I have never eaten here so cant review that. The staff have always been friendly and quick
Meh. I do not like The Dubliner. It is not Irish in any sense of the word, apart from serving Guinness. It is loud. So so so loud. The rooftop mostly just serves buckets of crappy bottled beers. The food is passable, but not much else.
In my opinion, there are so many other locations in Hoboken to enjoy that, apart from the rooftop aspect, I'd nearly always pick another place.
What an amazing view from the roofdeck!
But that's about it. Service was smiley but slow, there's no drink menu, their beer selection is limited to pretty much Bud, Coors, Corona, and Miller, and they don't serve sangria or bloody marys (then why even go there during the daytime?). I had a margarita and it was basically sweetened cold water.
Food is basic, can't complain about the food. Fries were yummy. But the bar is one of the worst I've been to in years. How in such a prime location in 2013 they can survive with such a badly run bar is beyond me.
Probably because the average person who goes there is 21 and doesn't know a thing about alcohol.
For what it is, Dubliner is juuuuust fine. Â From the ghetto outside-TV-with-a-piece-of-protective-plastic-Âover-it to the icky couches on the inside, it's not a 5-star bar, but it is certainly A-OK. Â
Drinking on the roof (as long as it's not as windy as it was when we were there!) is a lot of fun. Â The bathroom is impossibly small, but you can't really ask for much from a bar bathroom, so it's cool. Â That and the prices are right! Â This is very important in my book. Â I was pleased.
Can't say much about the clientele, as I was here during the day and not at night, but no one was overly rowdy, which was nice. Â I'd go back!
Went here on a Saturday night for a Birthday.
The bar area was surprisingly crowded (I didnt know anyone actually went here- assuming they are not Hobokenites and stubmbled upon the place since its a good location). Â
The bar has a poor layout and is really narrow. Â The bathroom is super small and dirty.
We asked for shots and the bartender said he was "too busy to make shots" Um, what?
Next Time I'll stick to the Pourhouse.
My husband and I had date night which turned into lets get sloshed. The Dubliner was very quiet at 9 PM on a Thursday night. This is not a bad thing, why? The bartender Michael gave us all of his attention. We had picklebacks with Jameson and I asked him to make me something. He gave me a Midori Martini in a beer mug. Loved it! I drank about 5 of those and I was happy. I plan on going back. I am definitely a fan.
Review Source:Gone here a few times at night but never for happy hour. Drinks ranged from 9 to 13 Â (single/double) and were well mixed. Place has a rooftop which is great if you want to enjoy the weather while relaxing and sipping on your beverage of choice. They also have DJs on the different floors so music is different.
Will definitely swing back for HH and some food next time.
The Dubliner is a chill bar right off the PATH, making it a good choice for happy hour. Cheap drinks and a good atmosphere, it's a change of pace for the area. The inside is dark, and it gets pretty crowded on weekends, but it gets the job done.
I've never been to the roof but I'm reading good things & can hopefully update on the experience.
I love when we walk into a place by accident and are happily surprised.
We stopped in here before we met up with friends nearby at the Pourhouse. Â I'm glad we did (see horrible review of the Pourhouse).
There was only one other guy at the bar, and the waitress. Â She was bright and funny and didn't mind having a conversation with two shmeckels from New Jersey.
She made the best whiskey sour I've had pretty much anywhere, and I swear it tasted like coconut. Â She made the sour mix herself, and I give her a thums up.
I HATED the idea of ordering a salad, but seriously, I have a dress fitting in less than a week. Â
I was DELIGHTED with Shane's Salad, with goat cheese, grilled chicken, apples, walnuts...even with oil & vinegar it was really fantastic. Â Not too huge, and for $8.50 it was well worth it. Â Seriously fresh.
We ventured to the roof just to see the view that everyone yelped about, and I could just imagine how crazy crowded this place could get. Â Does every carpet in every restaurant/bar in Hoboken have that gray, well-worn and duct-taped look?
If I find myself wanting to travel an hour away from home for a good meal, yeah, I'd go back.
BTW, I'm digging my new smart-phone that pulls up restaurants, yelp reviews, and directions should you find yourself in an unfamiliar area with time to kill.
The drinks and rooftop drew us in. I have walked by the dubliner for many years yet never stopped. I now know why.
Last week, I went with a girlfriend of mine and we had a blast! Our waitress was nice, the food was OK, the margaritas sucked (think mostly water a little mix, no detectable tequila), but the beer buckets flowed and our tab at the end of the night was $20 each! SAY WHAT!!! (turns out later we discovered the waitress forgot to charge for the margaritas)
I was willing to ignore the dirty grimy dark downstairs, the plastic tables, the planters full of weeds, the crooked and falling apart roof on top of the bar, Â the incredibly small awkward bathroom with a crooked dirty toilet....
Since we had such a blast last week, we returned with another girlfriend in tow last night. We were all in good spirits, and i actually asked both of them to be my bridesmaids (!!!) so we were all just really excited/happy and ready to have a good time. Little did we know, our waitress at the dubliner DID NOT want us to have a good time. This is the perfect example of how a horrible staff member can ruin a restaurants reputation.
We started out with margaritas... easy enough. Last time we were given a salt option. Apparently no salt option this time. We also asked for waters. The drinks arrived with out waters. We asked for waters again.
This time, ready to order. We make our orders but the waitress is distracted by telling us about her life and upcoming weekend (WE DON'T CARE, but okay we were nice and smiled and pretended to care), we ask for waters again. The food comes out. Mine is wrong. I asked for fries since I wanted fries and that is what the buffalo chicken wrap comes with. No apology, awkward silence, my friend says "ummm can she have a side of fries?" Still no waters. We ask for the FOURTH TIME for waters. She flips an attitude and acts like we just insulted her mother. We finally get waters, served by slamming them on the table. I could go on and on about asking for salt/pepper and getting an attitude, ordering more drinks and getting an attitude.... not clearing our places....but I don't want to bore you with this horrible girl's completely disrespectful behavior. I felt bad and still tipped 20%, I can't help being nice. I wish I had gotten this girl's name because she was awful. Needless to say, next Thursday night's girls evening will NOT be at the dubliner.
Great spot for rooftop drinks and casual food. Â Good week night happy hour specials include $13 buckets of bud light (5 beers) and $5 margaritas (not too strong, but good enough). Â On the weekends there is usually a line in the dark bar for a spot on the roof. Â In my opinion, not worth waiting. Â Go early, or as a post-work happy hour spot during the week.
Review Source:This review is only for drinks on the roof.
I was happy to find there was a rooftop in Hoboken, where we could enjoy a few cocktails, and the weather, with somewhat of a view.
It's not the greatest view, as there's a building right in front that obstructs the overall view of the hudson... but good enough for a lunch time cocktail. Happy hour has $5 margaritas and beers on tap and $15 for 5 beers in a bucket. Staff was friendly, and the drinks were good.
I'd be back.
This is a pretty chill place to hang out and it is fun to have drinks up on the roof. Â The apps are also pretty good. Â Last time I was there they were offering buckets of Coronas during happy hour. Â The ground floor is usually pretty dead, and the second floor is small and gets really crowded so I usually don't hang out there. Â It can get crowded on the roof too but any time I can snag a table up there it's hard to convince me to leave.
Review Source:I don't go to Dubliner often, but when I do, I drink on the roof.
You should too.
Nothing caps off a week of work like an office outing on the roof. Â We heavily utilized the Corona special - $15 for a bucket of 5 beers. At this end of Hoboken you can do far worse.
The bar was two other floors besides the roof but still manages to get pretty packed on the weekends. Â But hey, if you're coming to Hoboken on a Friday or Saturday night, isn't that what you want?
Shit...I didn't know that this spot has more to offer than just the rooftop bar.
The 1st floor bar:
-Pretty small, but there are lots of bar tables for crews of beautiful peeps to get lit up around
-Dark interior and chill patronage on weekdays makes it money
-$3.50 domestic pints/$4.50 imported pints of thirst-quenching beer for happy hour
The food:
-The ribs were deelissssh, tender and savory
-The sliders were thick like meatballs, with a light crust on the outside and juicy inside
The 1st floor lounge area:
-Its surrounded by windows that face the street so you can watch skanks trip in their heels and d-bags kick it to said skanks
-Dark...like make-out-as-much-as-you-want-without-anyone-seeing dark
-Faux leather comfy seats promotes sitting there for hours and hours
-Its chilly in this spot due to the windows, so bring a date to keep you warm
I went here for some Sunday day drinking with my friends and thought the place was cool. We ended up stumbling in here because the place had a rooftop bar and it is one of the few in Hoboken that do.
The place has three floors with the first, second and third floors all having bars. The first floor has some tables besides the bar and a couple of TVs. The second floor has The bar with a couple of lounge style seats and some bar games, however the bar is not usually open unless it is a busy night like Friday or Saturday. The third floor (rooftop) had the most seating set up out of all of them and had the bar staffed. We had a waitress serve us drinks and food at our table and my buddy's said the food they ordered was pretty good. The roof did not have much of a view of Manhattan which was something I would have liked to see.
The staff was friendly and helpful but our waitress was very busy most of the time since she was the only one working on the rooftop besides the bartender. But she was very good with getting our food and drinks to us on time.
Overall I gave this place three stars because of the good staff, the cool rooftop section and the good drinks. I did not try the food so I cannot comment on that and the lack of view on the roof was kind of disappointing. I will head back here if I am on that side of town or if my buddies go back.
If I could give it no stars I would! My fiancé and I traveled to Hoboken for the memorial day holiday weekend... We stayed at the W on river while we were in town. While here we ate at a different spot every time opportunity would allow because we wanted to give a fair assessment of what Hoboken had to offer.
Our last night in town we decide to try this place to grab a drink and some light fare ( food). We show ID to the doorman and proceed to the rooftop. However when we get there were told we have to wait because it's FULL TO CAPACITY. not even 30sec later 3 young white girls walk right pass and head straight up without question.
In that moment my experience in Hoboken had been tainted. Here we were in this shabby pub with awful lighting feeling like outcast because of out ethnicity! Could I ever be cretin that's what it was??? No, but I'm willing to bet money on it.
Needless to say we went to REPUBLIC on Washington street & had a awesome time... Great drinks, service, lighting, and atmosphere!
The first floor of this place has an area with dimly lit tables that provide for an intimate setting. Then upstairs has space for all the ruckus.
On a side note I love that this bar has a gaming machine with photo hunt on it. I've never played photo hunt drunk before but it is a fun experience.
I'd love to come back when it's warmer and experience the rooftop.
So my 21st birthday was yesterday! I really wanted to make the first place I got my first legal drink to be good, and I was very satisfied with my pick. The dubliner had a really chill bartender, and the drinks were farily priced (granted I didn't have to pay for obvious reasons)
The three levels were definitely different atmospheres which was pretty good for variety. The first floor is where we got our drinks, and watched the game. The second floor we didn't really stay at, but it was more of a dance-y area with a dj and some loud music. I really enjoyed the third floor (rooftop) especially given the great weather we had last night. Capped off the night up there and I enjoyed just relaxing with my friends and celebrating my milestone into manhood.
This might not be the go to spot for the night, but it's always a good place to stop at when your in the area.
Beside having two indoor levels.
First floor - More classic rock and 80s tunes played here. Window seats and high tables are great for groups.
Second floor - Music here is more in tune with z100. Top 100 charts, pop stuff. They sometimes have a DJ and cheap drink specials every hour. $1 shots are the go to when the wheel is in motion. Woot!
Rooftop - Smoke a cig, catch some fresh air, and enjoy the view. They have TVs up here too so you won't miss any of the game. A gem during good weather.
Quiet Monday night. Â Prompt, friendly, and attentive service.
Had the potato skins, tasty potato, but could be a little more generous on the cheese and bacon. Â Burger okay, slightly unevenly cooked and skimpy on the cheese.
Fair happy hour specials: $3.75 domestic drafts, $4.00 Yuenglings. Â Menu is very typical bar-food offerings.
Doesn't seem to be the typical younger crowd (a plus) and the multi-levels are also a plus. Â Didn't try the rooftop since the temperature was in the mid 30s but look forward to doing so when it is a bit warmer.
Recently, I asked all my friends to show up for open bar from 8 to 11pm to celebrate my birthday. Their servers/bartenders are so friendly & nice I feel like I couldn't tip them enough. Their security team makes sure the place is safe, comfortable, and not too overcrowded. EVERYONE is friendly.
The rooftop deck is a great way to get some fresh air and smoke your cancer stick, obviously ideal when the weather is good. The DJ's choices were diverse and he gladly accepted requests. The next time I wanna get all my friends in one place, I'm picking The Dubliner.
I'd give this place a 4, but every time I'm there the 2nd floor gets wayyyy too packed. If it's the summer, expect there to be an additional line upstairs to get to the rooftop. I guess this is good so that the rooftop doesn't make you feel like crushed sardines (like the 2nd floor does), but I've waited up to 15-20 mins just to get upstairs. I guess if you go early and stay upstairs, it's worth it.
Music is decent and crowd is young. Drink prices are average. Overall a decent spot, just don't expect to find a place to stand or sit and drink, and you should be ok.
Most consistent place in town. Â Most importantly, there's almost never a line.
First floor is quiet and has a pretty good menu of bar fare.
Second floor has a DJ on weekends, another bar with several TVs showing the games, some couches to chill on if that's more your speed, and a shot wheel so the ladies can be impressed when I buy everyone around me $1 jager shots (which seems like a much better idea when it happens than it does the next day).
The rooftop is money in the warmer months or anytime if you're a smoker or just like some fresh air from time to time. Â The tiki bar on the roof is only open during warm months though. Â I think they have weekend afternoon specials of $10 corona buckets which is a pretty legit way to waste a sunny Saturday or Sunday. Â Oh, and there are a few tvs on the roof (again warm weather only), so you won't miss a single one of Mariano Rivera's saves.
It's the place to go when there's nowhere else you really want to go.
Negative 1
This place is lame, and does nothing to herald the name of Hoboken. I had more fun in 10 minutes at the Coldstone down the street, then during the hours I spent here. I mean if this is Hoboken people's idea of fun, then I'm all in for some boredom.
If this is what Jersey has to offer, then I'm off to CT or Vermont when I'm ready to settle in.
I'd agree with James K. that the Dubliner is pretty much a go-to bar. Â Somehow I always end up there... and magically, I always end up spinning the wheel. Â They have a wheel with cheap shots on it, and if you spin a $2 Jager shot, the whole upstairs of the bar gets $2 Jager shots until the song ends. Â By the time I spin the wheel, I should pass on the shots... but I just can't. Â Oh well. Â Downstairs is usually pretty chill but I've seen the 2nd floor get a little wild. Â Upstairs - dance/pop songs, couches and tvs, shot wheel, video games - what more can you ask for? Â A rooftop bar would be nice - OH WAIT, THEY HAVE THAT TOO! Â It's just a great place to have a great night. Highly recommended! Â
P.S. james K. - the dubliner is actually a collection of 15 short stories by James Joyce, first published in 1914... haha  xo
We went to the Dubliner for St Pats, and sadly, they were out of everything Irish, and weren't playing Irish music on the jukebox, and we considered leaving, but it was late and we figured we'd run into the same problem elsewhere, so we made the best of it.
We ended up having a good night, and took over the jukebox, and the non irish food was good, and the waitress was great at the end of what must have been a really hard day. Â
One of these days, i'm going back to try the corned beef and then visit the rooftop bar that i didnt know existed. Â Then maybe I'll make it 4.
This place has it all, and they don't charge you a cover to experience it.
I went on a Saturday when other people were waiting in line like morons around other places, we stumbled across this place with no wait to get in.
1/ Chill irish bar area downstairs that doesn't get too crowded.
2/ Middle level has some pretty wild dancing going on with a DJ.
3/ The rooftop bar is a good escape from it all. They even has an authentic Irishman working the bar up there which made it all the more enjoyable.
Feels like you're in Manhattan and not "that town" in Jersey that isn't quite New York.
Most convenient bar to get to (2 blocks from PATH train, across the street from where I work).
Cheap enough drinking (big wine glasses), adorable bartenders (Sarah is my favorite), delicious food (Shane's salad...bring on the goat cheese).
Of course it's all a lot better if it's on the company card, but once in a while coming here to waste your night away is a great idea. Â Particularly if you want to watch a reality TV show (no volume) and drown in your sorrows for being so pathetic.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe this is the first review of a bar in Hoboken. That fact is absolutely insane, seeing as how this has got to be one of the coolest and most popular places to go drinking in the NY Metro area.
The Dubliner is a little bar about two blocks down River St. from the PATH station. It's a great place to go if you're into actually talking to people, rather than shouting.
The best attraction this bar has is it's roof. It's one of the only, if not THE only rooftop bar in Hoboken. They usually have good specials specials for buckets of beer.
I'm sure one of the main reasons that I come to this bar so much is that I work accross the street from it. Literally, on the 5th floor of the building immediately accross the street (above the Wachovia bank). But, the cool bartenders, good bar food, and relaxed atmosphere doesn't hurt.
