Although this is a quick and convenient stop to have a beer after taking a hard test/final at NKU, that's about as far as the 'pros' go for Dunker's.
The food is overly fried and greasy. Waitresses are friendly, but don't come back to refill drinks and when asked for napkins to wipe our hands after eating wings, brought us cocktail ones. I had to get up and grab actual napkins from the server station. At least they still celebrate Wing Wednesdays (after replacing BW3's.)
Also, (perhaps most obviously) the smell of tobacco/smoke chokes you from the moment you step foot in the door until the moment you leave. Not exactly appetizing to us Ohioans who have long gotten used to our restaurants being smoke free.
I give Dunkers a big 'ole C-.
This place may have a huge selection of burgers, but the miss the mark on the thing that matters most, the quality of the patty. Â I tried the hot mett burger, which had sauteed onions and peppers along with slices of hot mett on top. Â I also had it on the optional pretzel bun with a side of sweet potato fries. Â The bun, toppings, and sweet potato fries were great, but the patty was horrible. Â I've never had a more bland piece of meat in my life. Â I ordered it medium, but it was more medium well to well when it came out. Â The consistency of it was very gritty as well, and there was absolutely no seasoning on it as well. Â Making a good burger is not a secret in this country, and if you have eleventy billion burgers on the menu, you better get it right. Â Their beer list is pretty lackluster too. Â There's a few good offerings, but it's mostly macro swill. Â You don't need 4-5 taps for light beer, sorry. Â Make people that are dumb enough to drink that junk drink it out of a bottle. Â The service wasn't bad at all, which was nice. Â The atmosphere could be brightened up a bit though. Â The place was very dark, even on a nice sunny lunch day. Â I understand they probably don't have to deal with glare on their endless supply of TVs, but maybe increase the indoor lighting or something. Â I may come back eventually, but I doubt I'll try another burger.
Review Source:I thought I was going to Bdubs for a drink, food and to catch the Reds only to find out they were gone. Â Was hesitant to enter, but thought I would try it out. Â Still has the Bdubs lay out, but I like the fact the projectors were gone and they had all flat panel tvs. Â The girl at the front was friendly (cute too) and took me to a table in the non smoking area. Â They have a pretty good selection of foods and I was going to order wings, but decided for a burger instead. Â Burger came out nice size and was good. Â Had fries and they were good too. Â Beer was cold and when I got the bill it was not bad. Â Things I liked: Â TVs, place seems more open the Bdubs, smoke was not bad, server friendly (I did notice some familiar faces from Bdubs), server also said the place was locally owned when I asked if it was a frachise. Â Things I did not like: Â more fries, some kids running by me to play a game.
Overall I liked the food and atmosphere. Â Will definately be back.
If we could give it zero stars we would..
For starters, I understand smoking is still allowed in KY, but it doesn't mean the entire restaurant needs to smell like an ashtray. Â For the 68% of us who don't smoke, might be nice to do something about that. Secondly, while the servers were nice, there was obviously a lack of experience and knowledge with them. They all seemed to be running around with no clear direction. There was no mgmt up front, at least none that could be seen. It gave the perception of chaos..and they weren't even busy.
The food, was mediocre at best. Not only was everything extremely over cooked, it was slow. 30 minutes for a burger, order of wings and 2 kids meals is ridiculous, considering again that it wasn't that busy.. The positive, the burger size was good, but it was way overcooked and dry. I heard it just opened not too long ago, but probably won't go back.
Cheap beer, mostly domestics, terrible food. Â Menu consisted of usual sports bar crap, lots of fried nastiness. Â However, the extensive burger selections made me think that might be the way to go. Â I was concerned with the note that all burgers were prepared medium well, but hey I'm pregnant so I have been ordering medium well anyway. Â On to the burgers, which came out overcooked and tasted like dirt. Â I have never had a worse burger and at $8 or so I felt very cheated. Â The fries were thick but nothing special, probably frozen, and the onion rings, definitely frozen, were awful. Â Lots of TVs so if you want a dark smoky place to watch a game and drink cheap dunker's lager, ie keystone light, this is your place.
Review Source:Wasn't all that bad.. They have a lot of burger options. Â Even an option to have things like bacon and blue cheese crumbs baked into your burger (I didn't see this till after I ordered but at only 15 cents a piece I would have tried one). I got the Mac n cheese burger.. It wasn't as good as I'd hope with only cheep mac n cheese topping it. Â I wouldn't agree with the last reviewer about it being a generic bw3s (not a wing place, sports bar all the way though) but it defiantly feels like a generic something. Â I will be back again though to try something different.
Review Source:Its been a rule of thumb for me for a long time. NEVER EVER go to a new restaurant the first week. I was hoping maybe 2 weeks would be enough. I was wrong. Dunkers was definitely disappointing. Service was good our server Kevin did a great job keeping us happy but the food was a let down. Boneless Chicken sent back for chicken tenders. Hot Wings were not very hot. Sudden death was hot but not very tasty. Potato skins were very good fries were also fine just nothing special. Lots of TVs lots of games kind of like a generic BW3. We probably won't be back just no reason to.
