I love Dunlays.  The Wrightwood salad is addicting as are their french fries.  Delicious!  I have a gluten allergy and I never get sick from eating here.  The service is always fast and friendly.  My friends and I go here often and if you come at a busy time (Sunday around brunch time for example) it helps if you make a reservation because it gets packed.  My only complaint is that when I have ordered to-go from here, the fries didn't stay crispy and the packaging (these little brown boxes) are kind of flimsy.

Dunlay's on Clark deserves a solid 4 stars. The brunch is consistently good, the service is fast and the wait time usually isn't too bad. I seriously have to credit the kitchen and staff for making this place what it is.

My friends and I usually head to Dunlay's on Clark for brunch on Sunday's after a bad night. In fact, for Sunday brunch most of the hood can be found there too. Its popular for not only their good boozy brunch drinks, but also for their food as well. The menu doesn't have particularly fancy meals on it, but instead sticks to what DOC is good at,  good traditional breakfast items. A favorite of mine is the egg sandwich!

As for the service, I have never had a bad experience here. The waitresses are good at being quick, but at the same time not making you feel like your being rushed out (since Sunday's can be so busy). The kitchen is also super quick as well, which is good when your not in a good way.

If your in the mood for brunch in Lincoln Park, this is the place to go.

This place by far has one of the best veggie burgers I have ever tried (I love veggie burgers). It's homemade with grains, mushrooms and more. It's making me drool just writing about it. Also both the regular and sweet potato fries are amazing. The only reason for 4 stars is because we didn't have the best service, our orders got a bit messed up and we felt rushed being there even though they didn't have a full house. Our waitress kept coming over to ask if we want to pay even though we were still enjoying our beers - so instead of ordering more drinks we went onto the next place. If you want a mouth watering fresh veggie burger then this is the place for you.

Went for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon with my mom. We were sat in a 2 person booth near the kitchen and the staff took it upon themselves to use the back of my seat as a handrail every time they turned the corner, jostling me each time. We asked to change tables after a while and were moved.
Our waitress was apathetic at best. I ordered the corned beef "hash" and was surprised to be served a corned beef stew with some kind of spicy, soupy sauce. I wasn't happy and asked to order something else because it wasn't a typical "hash" dish. Instead of just bringing a menu, the waitress first tried to argue that the hash was, in fact, more a traditional hash than a finely chopped dish. I said I wasn't interested in arguing and could she just bring the menu, please? I went with a burger, which was ok.
I was able to get a second glass of wine, but my mom's glass stood empty for about 20 minutes and was cleared without anyone asking if she wanted another drink. After we were served, our waitress disappeared to do sidework - clear she didn't want to deal with her "trouble table." If you are in the service industry, its probably a good idea not to let your customers how much you may dislike them. I will not be back to this place.

Always love this place. Bloodys and breakfast potatoes.

I love Dunlays! I've been coming here for years and it has never disappointed. The service is always friendly and attentive and the food delicious! For lunch or dinner my absolute favorite dish is the filet sliders topped with carmelized onions and blue cheese- yum! I also love their tilapia fish sandwich. Their fries are darn close to being my favorite in the city. For dessert the cookie skillet is so good it can't be passed up.

Their brunch is also awesome. My personal fave is the French toast made with an orange liqueur but really anything on the menu is great! They also make a mean Bloody Mary.

This place is great for dinner with friends or a date spot.

    Bittersweet brunch!

The 'day' had arrived. After years of living in Lincoln park, time had come to move into a bigger place in a different neighborhood. Even though, I had been packing for days and loved my new apartment , it really had not sunk in until that morning. What do me and my husband do? We decide to have brunch at one of the most "Lincoln Park"iest places that we had passed by more times than I could fathom. Still in our sweats (we had packed everything else), we walked in at 10 am. Our friendly waitress offered us the menus. We decided to get two omelettes.... you need all that energy when you're moving. I got the Lincoln park omelette with asparagus, roasted red peppers and goat cheese. My gentleman got  a custom one made with mozzarella, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and onions. They came with a side of the creamiest potato side I've ever tasted and toast. As we ate, we reminisced and set our foot out realizing that life teaches us again and again, change is a constant and not necessarily a bad thing!

    A take out perspective...

I ordered to-go last night. I waited after placing the order and it was up and out quickly.  Great service from the hostess too!

My veggie burger was the best I've had in Chicago. Completely fresh and homemade with no gross bell peppers. Lots of flavor, grains and mushrooms. YUM! The bun was super soft and the burger came with "all the fixings" which were all fresh too. (I'm a stickler for green lettuce!)

My friend ordered the skillet cookie. OMG- Absolutely amazing. I had to try it of course. They separated the ice cream so it was still cold when it arrived home.

My only complaint was the packaging they used for my side of parsnips (don't judge- they were delicious!) leaked all over the bag and luckily not on my leather seats.

I'll be back for the veggie burger again. Thanks!

I used to LOVE this place a couple of years ago but now they are WAY overpriced for what you get and they changed there menu so much that all my favorites are gone.  The wait is alway long and there is no where for you to stand that doesn't impose on someone trying to enjoy their meal.  The service is hit or miss, some of the servers are fantastic and others are too busy socializing to care about their tables.  To get to the bathrooms you have to walk through the servers station with the soda machine and stuff and if you have to wait you are in their way or again imposing on someone trying to eat.  Don't get me wrong, the food is nice but not for that price, the service or wait.  They seem to be on a downhill slope :(

Went on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch. We've been here before. And i cant say it was very memorable. The hubs ordered corned beef hash and eggs. It was the fatty thick type of corned beef.  The hubs didn't enjoy it very much. It was super greasy. He prefers the really chopped up mashed corned beef (like in a can not deli).

I ordered the veggie burger. I've had the veggie burger from dunlays On the square. Sightly spicy. Rice and veggie patty but cooked to a crisp outer layer that had a bite to it. S i was disappointed this didn't have the bite to it. It was mushy and when i bit into it the burger just flattened out and fell apart. Booooo

We also ordered the spinach dip. That was delicious. The chips were fresh and warm. But also served w some salsa.??? Interesting.

Our waitress SUCKED. She took a long time to take our order. Then we had to look for her at the end for our check. We had to hunt down another waitress to get our check. Even after we paid still no waitress. We had to ask yet another person to wrap our food up. We had gone to lunch there to see the DOC wine bar next door in hopes to throw a party there. When we went in we saw our waitress with a couple others sitting and chatting rolling up utensils in napkins. Wtf? When she realized we had already paid she asked us how everything was. She wouldn't have even known we left if we hadn't walked in the other room.

We decided against having our party there. Because of customer service. And the parking in that area is horrible m

Go here for brunch! And order the side of potatoes! They are delicious shredded cheese/garlicy deliciousness.  This is also by far my favorite place for bloody Mary's. One benefit to coming here is they will open up D.O.C. which is their wine bar next door if they need more seating so I've never had to wait more than a few minutes in the two dozen times I've been here for brunch.

The fried egg sandwich is great, but I always get the eggs Benedict and sometimes the special has something delicious such as chorizo sausage or crab. Their lunch items are good as well. Service is also very attentive... Dunlays never disappoints for brunch.

My girlfriend and her friend both got food poisoning after coming here and eating pulled pork and Mac and Cheese with Chicken. It put her out of work for a few days. After seeing some reviews about cold food, it is clear they don't take good care of their food in the kitchen.

We came here for a late breakfast with another couple and we were pleasantly surprised.  We started off with mimosas for the girls and bloody Mary's for the boys (these ones come with beer sidecars too... super cute).

For an appetizer, we ordered the beer cheese dip which is a spread served cold that was super yummy... I scarfed it!  We also had the cornbread because we heard it was not to miss and we were glad we did.

I ordered the Lincoln Park Omelet which I was not as impressed with in comparison to the other dishes we tried.  I stole some of my boyfriend's corn beef hash and it was to die for.  It was made very different from how I have seen it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

As a side note- Dunlays has now started served breakfast in DOC wine bar next door for Sunday brunch to speed up the wait time which is awesome.  I also like the atmosphere there better!

We just discovered this Gem of a restaurant this past Sunday.  The food was absolutely incredible, and the service was so friendly and fast even with how packed the place was.  Great list of craft beers, and my girlfriend enjoyed the Sangria.  I would recommend the chili & cornbread.... it was honestly some of the best chili I've ever had.  Also the banana bread french toast was awesome. Thank you for such a wonderful experience, we will surely be back soon!

Nice place for a meal, a drink, or both.  It's neither classy no divey; wall-fireplace and flat screens behind the bar, decent beer selection and some creative food.  I had the blue cheese nachos.  Sounds weird, but it works.  Staff was welcoming and the service was fast (but not rushed).

I've passed by this place a hundred times and never stopped in. It's a charming neighborhood joint in a very food focused part of Clark Street. The beer selection isn't grand but it's decent. The menu is pretty diverse too, I ordered the special which was the turkey burger with some mango chutney. It was delicious, not the best tuna burger ever but it was savory and the potato croquettes that came with it were the perfect compliment. The service here was prompt, efficient, and friendly. We didn't sit outside on the patio but we did have a wonderful seat by the window. This place is great for a casual meal on a weekday or a nice leisurely meal on the patio on a beautiful day.

    WORST brunch ever!
I had the fried egg sandwich with hash browns...
First the egg in the sandwich (supposed to be over easy) was totally raw. I love runny egg yolk, but I never saw the yolk (really! I don't know where it was...) but the worst thing about the egg is that it was totally under cooked! there was albumen all over my plate! Eww!
BUT! even worse than the egg, was the hash brown! disgusting flavor and awful texture! It was gooey and greasy.

Dunlays was delicious. I ordered crab cakes with mash potatoes and they did not disappoint. This was a great place to go with a group of people and just hang out. Especially on Monday nights with half price glasses of wine! Our service was great because we had an amazing waitress. She was just the right amount of attentive because she was never interrupting, but we always had what we needed.

I liked the atmosphere too. It was just the right amount of trendy and I thought the prices were pretty reasonable for what you get. I would love to go to Dunlays again whenever I get back to Chicago!

I had been to Dunlays on Clark for brunch which is always GREAT! But the other night I took my family to Dunlays for dinner, and it was truly AMAZING! We had the grilled artichokes apetizer which is my new favorite dish!! Everyone was happy with their meals which ranged from the tuna sliders to crab cakes to the pork special! Everything was delicious ... and it was Monday so 1/2 off glasses of wine! :)

I've always considered Dunlays "that brunch spot." So much so that I never even bothered to come at any other time (try their Wrightwood Salad, by the way. Sooooo good!)  When a friend suggested we go for late evening cocktails, my first thought was "what kind of crazy talk is this? Dunlays is for brunch!"

I have learned the error of my judgement and issue humble apologies. I didn't eat anything off of the menu, but their martinis were spectacular. And if you go on Thursday, they're only $6. Not to mention, on a warm night, sitting at their patio makes for decent Clark Street people watching.

Eyes officially open. I will be sure to return to Dunlays some time after 12pm again!

During my 12 day visit to Chicago I wound up eating here twice. And that says a lot because since moving from Chicago I make it a point to always go back to my favorite spots to eat. However Dunlays snuck up on me and I'm hooked! I wonder how I didn't know about this little place when I lived a few blocks away.

My first meal here was brunch and it rocked. The boy had some omlette that he raved about and that takes a lot because he's not a brunch fan. I had the blt and I added an egg. It was perfectly cooked, the bacon was perfectly crisp and the whole grain bread rocked. The bloody mary was outstanding. I love the skewer of treats that comes with it, I would however skip the cucumber vodka. It totally overpowers the bloody mary.

My next meal was dinner with a friend and we dined on the patio (yay!) We shared the grilled artichoke and the remoulade that it came with was outstanding. The artichoke was somewhat undercooked which was a bummer but we just ate around it. We both had the salad that comes with chicken and accompanied by a glass of white whine it was a perfect summer meal.

I'm certain that on my next visit I'll find myself here again.

Popular brunch spot in Lincoln Park. Service was spot on. Everything on the menu looked really good  and creative. The food is well executed.

If your looking for a place to be a regular at this could be your place. It's that good. Great to come for brunch on the weekends - draws all types of crowds.

Dunlay's could have more menu items but i think a smaller menu works to their advantage because they execute their menu very well.

Definitely a must if you're in the area.

I really enjoy Dunlay's on Clark.  Their food is really consistent and solid.  The service is always great, and their outside patio is wonderful too.  Who doesn't like to have a good beer, sandwich and people watch on a nice afternoon?

If you're looking for a good sandwich, good people watching and a good location, look no further!

I went here Friday afternoon for a late lunch.  The reason I chose this spot was because they had outdoor seating and were VERY dog friendly, and I had my dog with  me.  We say outside, the waitress immediately brought me water and a menu, and a minute later the manager brought my dog a bowl of water with ice.  Customer service off to a great start, and never dipped.

I ordered a bloody mary and the Wrightwood Salad.  The bloody mary was delicious, not to spicy, and came with a lime which was refreshing on the 90 degree day.  The salad was so good, everything was fresh and flavorful, I particularly liked the avocados, pecans, very thinly sliced chicken, and salad dressing.  The bloody was $8 (standard), salad was $12 (reasonable for the portion size, I had left overs), and I cannot wait to go back and try out their brunch fare!

This cozy, local restaurant provides a dim lit and relaxing atmosphere inside, while offering a young and energetic outdoor patio for summer time dining.

Dunlays on Clark is an ideal spot for a casual lunch, or a slightly intimate dinner.  Dunlays offers a variety of sandwiches for lunch, such as barbeque pulled pork and the Park West Sandwich with ham, bacon and chicken.  For dinner, enjoy starters like guacamole and entrées such as herb-roasted chicken and crab cakes.

Dunlays has good food for a reasonable price.  A dinner without drinks would cost an average of $15.  Connected to the D.O.C wine bar, Dunlays wine menu is extensive with over 30 different wines.  And if cupcakes and wine is your thing, Dunlays has cupcake and wine time.  Enjoy 4 Molly's Cupcakes paired with 4 glasses of wine.

I've eaten here a few times and really enjoyed it - I'm not sure why I haven't written a review before now!

    Outdoor seating:  plentiful and roomy.
My menu choice:  Sashimi Tuna Salad
My beverage:  Water drenched with fresh fruit

    My experience:

I'm one of those "dine outdoors with your dog" people but we do try to sit at out-of-the-way tables to respect others.  My very friendly server came out, said "oh I love when people bring their dogs to my tables!" and promptly brought my Jilly a treat and a steel dog dish with ice water. Nice!

My new drink of choice is water infused with fresh fruits so my server dashed off and returned with a plate of citrus fruit slices for me.  I decided to try the Sashimi Tuna Salad for $15.  Let me tell you it was worth every penny.  The tuna was plentiful and juicy.  The cilantro vinaigrette drizzled over the salad was delicious.  And added to the mixed greens were avocado, onion and mango.  To be honest, when I first looked at my salad, I thought, "this is never going to fill me up..." I'm happy to report that I was very, very wrong!  That salad was just perfect on all counts.

The food was flavorful, the service was fast and friendly, the price was reasonable.  I really have to say that my experience today was a well-learned 5-star experience from start to finish.

"Meh" is just about dead-on for me.

Tried this place for the first time a few days ago. Sat on the patio, and the service, although relatively friendly, was incredibly slow. I hardly saw our server at all the entire visit, and it wasn't like there was an overwhelming surge of business. Pretty slow day, it seemed to me.

The food was just okay. I tried the potato cakes with my burger, which the server told me were "INCREDIBLE", but I definitely wouldn't go that far.

I wouldn't have to be dragged kicking and screaming to come back, but I certainly won't ever suggest it myself again.

I met some co-workers here for dinner and drinks on a Thursday night and had a satisfactory experience- good food, a little pricey.

There were a limited number of red wines available by the glass (go next door for more), but I selected a Malbec that was $8 and pretty tasty.  I ordered the Sopresta pizza for dinner.  It was good.  My friend ordered the turkey burger and raved about it.  I'll order that next time.  There were other menu options that looked good.  Sandwiches were around $10 and entrees were around $15- $20.  After 2 glasses of wine and dinner, I paid over $30 which felt high to me.  I guess that is because there are so many spots on Clark where you can get more bang for your buck.

The atmosphere is sophisticated and kind of romantic.  It is dim but cozy.  Our server was nice, but she often went quite awhile without checking on us.  It took awhile for our drinks to arrive even though the restaurant wasn't busy.

I enjoyed Dunlay's.  I'll go back, but it isn't a restaurant I would tell others to run out and try right away.

Wow the Herb Chicken was amazing.  It came perfectly tender and juicy and delicious.  One of the best pieces of chicken I've had in my life.  The server was great too, she was patient and very attentive.

The atmosphere was decent, they had comfy chairs and original blues artwork, which was cool.  Mostly, it feels like a diner so nothing to spectacular but nonetheless a good place overall

I have yet to find something I don't like at Dunlay's. My staple there is the egg sandwich, it's really delicious. The combo of cheddar, mayo, tomato, lettuce, and amazing bacon always makes me happy on weekend mornings. Absolutely love their creamy herb hash browns, which are undoubtedly clogging my arteries, but I can't resist. Once I went with a girlfriend who had their benedict special that had bbq chicken and it was awesome. The boyfriend always gets an omelet and they're pretty huge, making him a very happy camper. The ingredients inside are plentiful and unique. When I can snag a bite from him, I'm always impressed.

Every time I've visited I've had great service and never had to wait for a table. My only complaint is that some of the tables are scrunched together and you get jostled by waiters coming by. Solid brunch place, love sitting outside here in the summer.

Dunlays became an instant favorite after my first visit almost two years ago.  The food is always excellent and service is attentive and prompt.  I developed an insatiable need for the Beer Cheese, the Dunz Omelette, and the Creamy Herbed Hash Browns and couldn't stop coming back time and time again.  In all fairness, though, I can get bunch anywhere, it was the service that really sealed the deal.

My first visit was great.  Our server was patient, attentive, and engaging.  She was incredibly sweet and really wowed my brunch buddy and me with her ability to maintain a sunny disposition with the two of us being the handful that we can be.  We left after that first visit pretty wowed.  It was our second visit weeks later, however, that hooked us for good.  We requested our amazing server, Jessie, and not only was she just as good as the previous visit, she remembered almost every detail of our difficult orders from our first time together.

From then on, if Jessie wasn't working, we weren't eating at Dunlay's.  The experience was always good, but just not the same without her.  Hands down, some of the best service I've received, EVER.

I've been coming to Dunlays on and off for years.  What I like about it is the consistency: a decent meal with decent service.  It by no means wows you, but it's a reliable standby.

I usually get the chicken sandwich with pesto mayo which is yummy, but this time opted for the rigatoni since it was a cold night.  I've definitely had much better pasta, this was just ok, I could have made better at home.  My friends ordered the burger ("ok"), the turkey burger ("a little dry") with sweet potato fries ("good") and the pulled pork sandwich ("good").

I'm sure I will come every once in a while (probably in the summer for the nice patio), but don't recommend a special trip here.

I love the atmosphere and location of this place, my only qualm is that the food is overpriced.  $23 for two small and mediocre crab cakes is kind of ridiculous.  It's a notch above good pub food, but priced a lot higher.

Otherwise, the service was quick and friendly and they have a pretty good drink selection.  The location is awesome - right on Clark with a beautiful patio and adjacent to their wine bar (DOC wine bar).

I would still recommend this place for a get together, happy hour, or date, but I wouldn't put it on my monthly dinner rotation.

Dunlays has quietly become my goto brunch of choice.  It wasn't something I planned, it just kinda happened.  I blame the bloodys and eggs benedict.  With the option for patio seating, Dunlays is a great place to dine alfresco.

I stopped in the other day with some friends from out of town to fuel up before heading to a concert.  I wanted a drink but was torn between a bloody and a refreshing effen cucumber and soda.  Then the genius waitress suggested we just use effen cucumber in the bloody.  Problem solved, deliciously.  Like others have mentioned the toppings are great, there is a beer back, if you like bloodys - order it.

The other thing I can't seem to avoid at Dunlays is the special of the day.  It is always some kind of eggs benedict with amazing things piled on it.  One day it was lobster, another sausage, I even heard a rumor about pulled pork.  Dunlay's eggs benedict has had such an impact on my life that one day when it was too rainy to make the less of a mile journey to get my weekly dose, I attempted it at home.

I've had a few of the other menu items and have enjoyed all of them.  Service is good and the wait is never that long for the patio.

All in all, great brunch food - great burgers (they even have a $5 burger night) and a great bloody mary.  Get it with effen cucumber, you'll thank me!
