I was in a generally bad mood when I entered this establishment, most likely because I knew I was stuck in BR for the night. While this would have been the ideal dimly lit dive to drink away my geographic sorrows and pass out beneath the interstate, I had some economizing to get back to and was unfortunately unable to imbibe a suitable quantity of libations to forget where I was. That being said, it is smokey, noisy, vaguely over-priced and a generally bad place to be when you know you have a desk full of math waiting for you.
However, I can't deride this boozeitorioum based solely on my sour demeanor. In better spirits, I image Duvic's may be the local of many a palatable evening. If the drinks are a little poorly made and pricey, the company is affable and the specials plentiful.
I'm inclined to stop by Duvic's for another round. With it's prime spot beneath the interstate (and adjacent to Chelsea's), I imagine I will be patronizing this poorly lit lounge in the near future.
I've been to Duvic's twice and while I always enjoy the company of my friends, I can't say that I enjoy Duvic's much at all. First of all, the bar is extremely smoky. I am not a fan of smoking in bars and really wish this place was smoke-free or had a designated smoking area. Also, it's extremely dim inside and I'm not sure why...I get that some bars and nightclubs have dim lighting, and it works most most of the time. In Duvic's the dim lighting gives me the feeling that there are burned out bulbs somewhere that need to be replaced. Finally, the martinis are not very good. I have tried 3 of the martinis: the cajun, the key lime pie, and the mounds bar. The cajun tasted watery and was overly spicy-- it basically tasted like the juice pickled jalapenos come in. I ended up asking the bartender to pour it into a regular glass and top it with tomato juice-- it was much improved that way. The key lime pie martini was missing the zesty flavor of a key lime and tasted flat and too milky. It also didn't come with the graham cracker rim that was in the menu description. Last, the mounds bar martini just tasted like a chocolate martini. Even though there was malibu in it, there was absolutely no coconut flavor once the drink was mixed.
The one upside was that the bartender was extremely friendly and nice. So nice in fact, that I didn't want to tell her that my drinks were sub par for fear of hurting her feelings!
I want to love this place. I love the drinks, the bartenders are great, but the smoke cloud that slaps you in the face as soon as you walk in the door is a complete turnoff. It's such a bummer too because they have this very delicious looking food menu now and have updated their drink menu, but I would not under any circumstances want to eat in this place. Expand the patio and/or ban smoking inside and you'll see me again, Duvics. Until then, I must bid you adieu.
Review Source:The drinks were really delicious, and I think I found my go to bartender for an old fashioned. She has short blonde hair and she was definitely the most helpful bartender there.
There is definitely a lot of smoke that fills the bar and I guess I expected a martini bar to not be as grimy.
I will still be back there though for an old fashioned.
My go-to overpass bar, for sure.
I love the overpass area as a whole, but Duvic's is definitely my favorite of them all. I like Thursday nights best because they have specialty shots very cheap. What makes Duvic's so enjoyable to me is the GREAT bartenders, decent music, and good place to sit and have conversation. They make a good martini and have an okay beer selection as well, which is nice to have all rolled into one small overpass bar.
I also like that Duvic's is a place where mostly anyone will fit in. I can walk in wearing my dirty work clothes (I'm a server in a seafood restaurant) or I can walk in dressed up in heels and a dress-- and neither will get me confused looks.
Certainly the definition of a neighborhood bar. And living in the neighborhood, I approve.
I've never had the food, but I've heard nothing but good things about it. I really need to try it out.
You can't beat Wednesday $5 martinis nights!  AND they sure don't skimp on the alcohol!  Either that or I'm just a cheap drunk lol  The only thing bad is the amount of secondhand smoke I breathe in and coming home smelling like a stale cigarette, but when you're buzz its just nice to wash your face and hop into bed...you can worry about washing your sheets the next day =D
Review Source:I really enjoyed coming here. The smoke was a little bit much but that is so be expected when you go to bars. Everyone should try their Duck Boudin Balls with Duck Fries. Was the yummiest thing I've ever eaten! Drinks are Delicious as well. I can't remember the drink I had although I know it was related to sex! lol The staff is really friendly and the customers were awesome. Even brought us more drinks lol
Review Source:Duvic's has got to be one of the better bars in Baton Rouge. Â Their good prices, solid selections, and friendly service have people coming in and making it a strong crowd even on week nights. Â The ambiance is dark, however, amidst all of the smoking one will find that there are a couple of large rooms and a main bar in the middle. Â
There are TVs showing sports highlights and people playing pool in the background. Â Recommended drinks definitely have to be "The Cajun" and "Chocolatini." Â Try to sit in an area that allows you to see the TV and avoid the smoking at the same time (next to impossible).
