This place is a big no-no for me. I came here last Saturday morning to pick up some breakfast, and the fist thing that I noticed is that they were out of almost every bagel. There were about 4 kinds to choose from. Hmmm...not off to a good start, especially when your restaurant is focused on bagels and it's Saturday morning.
Luckily, they had Asiago cheese bagels, so  I decided on a breakfast sandwich.
I'm still trying to grasp my head around how I spent $11 for an egg/cheddar/turkey sausage breakfast sandwich, orange juice, and small coffee. There was nothing spectacular about the sandwich, and it was even microwaved! Blahh, ew. However, the orange juice and coffee hit the spot, but definitely not worth the amount of money I paid for them.
A below average experience all around, so I do not recommend!
Surprised by all the bad reviews, so I upped to four stars, though really ANY Einsteins really only deserves three. Â It's a basic bagel sandwich shop.
Nothing fancy. Â The bagels are decent, though a little doughy and nothing like a NYC bagel, but that's to be expected.
Still, I have been to this one several times and never has my order been mixed up. Â The staff has always been courteous and helpful.
I do like the sandwiches better than the coffee, but both are good.
Don't let the negative reviews deter you. Â This is a fine Einsteins. Â If you are looking for a coffee and bagel sandwich shop, this is a fine one. Â And it's clean too
Dreadful on all accounts-- bad service, high prices, bad management, rude ghetto employees. Â The place is dirty, there is always crust around their sink behind the counter and white splatters, even the inside of the bagel case is dirty. Â Many of the tables were dirty.
They are incompetent. Â I ordered a bagel thin with egg whites/swiss/asparagus/mushroom, and they got my order wrong and gobbed strawberry cream cheese on an asparagus egg sandwich. Â Imagine how that tastes, effin nasty.
And prices do not reflect value. Â Three egg/cheese bagels= about $16, on a bagel thin. Â It's certainly not labor-intensive to make, but their employees move like zombies. Â I don't think I've ever waited 15 minutes for a bagel sandwich before.
The customers here are total jerks, and will ruin any decent person's visit. Â I don't think any of these people have been out of their houses in the past twenty years. Â The staff deals with these pricks as best possible, but don't be surprised if some lady on an iphone knocks you over for her lox bagel.
Review Source:I love Einstein's Bagels. After living in Denver for over 10 years I've been to dozens of Einsteins over the years. This Einsteins on Clybourn is the worst Einsteins Bagels I've ever been to by far! It's horrible and I'll never go back even though I love Einsteins. Someone from Corporate should come make changes immediately.
Where do I begin, there is no ticket system so I had to give my order several times and they still got it wrong. They never have the type of bagels I want, thin or regular. I asked repeatedly for them to make more coffee but instead of making more they would just sit around and talk on their phones. But finally they couldn't even properly toast a bagel and cream cheese.
EPIC FAIL! DO NOT TOLERATE THIS HORRIBLE SERVICE. JUST SAY NO TO THIS EINSTEINS!
Terrible! Â Can I give zero stars??
We went in to buy some pretzel bagels for our hamburgers. Â They only had four, so we asked for all four of them sliced but not toasted. Â He dropped one and screamed "OH SH*T!!" and told us "Uhhh there's only three now. Â There's only three." Â We had to replace it with something else, and it took over five minutes. Â He handed my boyfriend our bag of sliced bagels and all of the employees wandered away out of view.
We waited at the register for five minutes or so before someone wandered back out behind the counter... and walked away again. Â We asked "Can we pay for these?" and held up the bag. Â A different employee, saying nothing, walked over to the register and stared at it for a moment. Â We said "We just have four bagels." Â He asked "Where the bagel bites at?" and we said "We just have four bagels" and held up our bag again, Â but someone else, (presumably a manager,) came over and rang up the bagel bites. Â We said "No, it's just four bagels! 15 minutes for four bagels!" Â The manager laughed and said to the cashier "Welcome to Lincoln Park!" Â He didn't look directly at us the whole time we were there, and now that I think of it, the only time anyone did was when the employee who ruined one of our bagels was telling us that they don't have four anymore.
So not only are they in general horrible with customer service, but they assume that everyone shopping there is an a**hole and it's THE CUSTOMERS' FAULT for being in a certain neighborhood instead of the lack of competence in employees. Â Ironically, we aren't even from that area, we just happened to by driving by ad decided to try the pretzel bagels advertised in their window.
I've really never had worse service and treatment while purchasing food before. Â I will not go back, and will probably not shop at the company's other locations either. Â It's just not worth my time or money to be treated like garbage by lazy people, and insulted in person on top of it.
Sure, I love the toasted everything with veggie cream cheese, but I come here for the coffee. Â The vanilla hazelnut blend with Splenda and half&half makes my work morning a bit more bearable. Â
Any time I have ordered food, my bagel has been perfectly toasted and schmeared (veggie and sun dried tomato are my favorites!) Â
Not sure what DeaconMSA is talking about, I think that the employees at this particular location are great. Â One of the employees even knows my daily order and lately has been calling me "Large Coffee." Â
Thank you Clybourn Einstein Shop, your coffee (and the occasional bagel) makes me so VERY happy!
every once in a blue moon, i miss the food 'scene' in the suburbs. that is usually when i'm craving a bagel. Â i was to go in my car and find a parking spot in a parking lot that's free and go in and eat a delicious, chain-restaurant-created bagel. Â i have learned this place is not where to go to try to recreate this guilty pleasure of mine.
parking is annoying, the service is sub-par, the bagels are stale, and the turkey sandwich i got had 1 slice of turkey on it. like, a really itty bitty amount of meat for a really substantial carb foundation. and their diet coke even tasted weird. and what's with $9 for a deli sandwich and drink? i'm either getting really good at consistently finding meal deals, or really cheap.
sad.
Absolutely terrible customer service. Â The employees barely look in your direction when you order--that is, if you can even find one.
The last two times I dined in, I witnessed an argument between employees and customers. Â Bad form.
I'll be going to the Einstein Bros. on Southport from now on.
I have been a huge fan of the tasty turkey on asiago since I first laid eyes on an Einstein's. Like all chains, it's pretty consistent across the board no matter which one you go to. This one is very clean and has very nice employees who are friendly and always quick. They never made my Friday morning summer detour take too long.
