El Rancho De Andres Carne De Tres

very disappointing :-( Manager refused to redeem my groupon voucher. He said the groupon could not be redeemed because it was "the colombian independence day holiday" (how was I supposed to know that that day was a holiday? Ridiculous!)
He came up with a million of excuses not to redeem the groupon like " You should have told me before that you had a groupon because what you are supposed to get it is different than what you got" as if "what you are supposed to get" would be less or not as good as what they offer in the written description of the Groupon.

He never offer an appology. The food was OK but the manager did not care about losing customers.

I am certainly not coming back.

Most Colombians go to this place once because they think it is the same owner but NEVER, even come back.....groupon or not!  My buddy and his wife went with 3 other couples and to this day he still jokes about what a horrible experience it was.  
He said it overlooks a cemetery, the service is horrendous, the area is no that good and the food is something he never wants to ever have again.
For those that went with Groupon, consider yourself lucky.

Going anywhere to eat or for some type of service with a Groupon or Living Social pretty much guarantees that you will be treated differently.  I've witnessed this repeatedly in restaurants, bars, spas, you name it.  I think proprietors assume that it's a cheap customer or that it's someone who just cares about a deal and wants to get something without paying for the value of it.  It's probably much easier to assess a business accurately when you are paying the normal rates and the staff is on their normal behavior, minus the automatic disdain towards discount coupon patrons.  That is the case with many businesses in NYC, Andres is no different.  

With that said, Andres is a rowdy place that can be fun if you know what to expect and are open minded.   I had a great time there and would definitely go back. The vibe was cheery.  I did not have a Groupon and found the service to be pretty good, we had a VERY attentive server who was knowledgable, friendly and polite.  It was a Saturday night, pretty crowded and the papayera that came around to the birthday tables was highly amusing.  There are probably Colombian restaurants in other parts of Queens with higher-quality food and better preparation, but overall the food was decent.  I don't think you go there to be impressed by what's on your plate but to have fun, listen to music and throw some drinks back.   Great for groups too. Certainly, the beach concept out front is unique.   I'm going to go back during the party hours and reassess, I get the feeling it's better suited for that than for a sit down dinner.
