Somehow, I am the Duke of Emeralds. That really isn't a good thing, because I have only been a few times and wasn't impressed any of those times.
Emeralds Pub is trying it's hardest to be that cool bar on the first floor of a Holiday Inn, unfortunately, it's on the first floor of a Holiday Inn. The bar has changed hands in the past about five times in my lifetime, and I'm only 24, so the location might be a dead spot on Route 22.
Besides the location and what's upstairs, I'm still not impressed with Emeralds. It has become a place where my co-workers and I go to relax after work, but I have never been with friends after 8p.m. You would think that for a bar off of a highway, they would really try to pump some great happy hour prices to have as many people come in after work as possible on their way home. Weirdly, they don't. The prices do not change and honestly, aren't the best for the near-by area.
The entire design of Emeralds Pub really makes me want to remove the word 'Pub' from the name. This isn't a pub at all. Emeralds realistically is a restaurant/bar trying to be swanky and cool. It isn't working. They really need to fix a few things to this place before I decide to come any time other than during happy hour.
The latest in a revolving door of eateries at this motel location, each one worse than the one before it. Â Service here is, in keeping with the precedent set by the prior restaurants, ridiculously slow, loaded with attitude and too busy fooling with cellphones and each other to give a damn. Â They can't even pour a draft competently.
We both ordered fish and chips; it caught our interest, and is pretty tough to mess up. Â I wouldn't swear to it, but what we got may have arrived here as a frozen block. Â It was bland, poorly textured and completely lacking in inspiration.
Judging from the crowds, or more specifically, the lack thereof, Emeralds Pub won't be here long. Â The steady decline from reasonably good British-Indian (The Elephant & Castle) to bad Tex Mex, and now, worse Irish boggles the imagination regarding the next culinary abomination to open here.
It was ok. Â "A" had a soup and a Chicken Sandwich. Â Soup was ok and so was the sandwich. "A" removed the chicken from the bread though. I ordered the Fish and chips. Â It was ok, a little skimpy on the Chips and I left hungry. Â Service was much improved over the last 2 reviews, as our server was there pretty quick and was very nice. Â When we first walked in we didn't know what to do as there was no hostess, she eventually came over after we sat down to bring us menus and didn't day a word. Â Â I can say that I wouldn't recommend this place and I wouldn't go back, however I wouldn't tell someone NOT to go here either. Â
Potential is there.
