Spanish Tavern

This is a great restaurant.  We've been several times and this past week we went with another couple.  Even though we had reservations, they still made us wait 45 minutes.   Sangria for the table is always delicious.   I had the twin lobsters, which were outstanding, my husband had the roast suckling pig, which was a little gamey, Our friends had the Paella and the Pheasant.  all the paellas are always outstanding, the pheasant was very tiny, but at least they got bread & soup to fill up on.  The service here is always excellent, with the exception of waiting for a table, even though we had reservations.
Any time I'm in the mood for Spanish cusine or lobsters , we usually go to Spanish Tavern.

I have never had a bad meal here and that's extremely important.  They are extremely accomodating as far as special requests which is another item of major import.

This is without a doubt the best Spanish Restaurant in the state of NJ.  I've been to the best that the Newark Ironbound has to offer but  the thirty minute ride to this one is well worth your while.  I had the Spanish escargots and the Black Sea bass with fingerling potatoes and sautéed spinach and washed it down with a pitcher of red sangria and it was fantastic.  I recommend the homemade Catalan cream or the rustic apple cheesecake for dessert.  This is a truly hidden gem.
