So we ordered here for lunch today at work. 4 entrees was just shy of $50!! Worth it? Meh.....it was ok at best. The portions are HUGE (there was enough to feed a family of four with one order!) but bigger doesn't always mean better. The food was salty but very flavorful. I ordered the Kung Po Beef. Not the best I've had but still tasty none the less. There are many other Chinese restaurants close to work that I will go back to before I order from here again. It worked in a pinch especially since it was rainy and I was WAY too lazy to go anywhere.

This was my go-to restaurant when they delivered to my house. The food's not going to blow your mind as authentically Cantonese (or any kind of Chinese for that matter), but, it's very reasonably priced and it's a huge step up from most takeout/delivery Chinese in Chicago.

I can't vouch for sweet & sour anything because that should taste gross anywhere. But, they do a great pan fried noodle, a very respectable hot & sour soup, nice thick-skinned dumplings and pretty good meat/veg combos. Their egg rolls are usually free and they make them with a touch of peanut butter (if you've never tried it, you have no idea what you're missing.)

Like most Chinese restaurants in Chicago - this one is hit or miss.  The Salt and Pepper shrimp is almost always delicious and is by far the best I have had in Chicago.  They also have a lot of different kinds of bubble tea and smoothies that are really tasty.  (I recommend the Jackfruit or the Coconut).  The Szechwan String Beans are good here too.  They make spicy dishes well which is a rarity in Chicago.  Unfortunately they don't do fried based dishes (like General whoevers chicken) well - but that is pretty much my universal complaint for Chicago Chinese food.

Also - I have never once been sick or food poisoned by this place and I have ordered take out from them quite a few times.

I didn't get food poisoning!!  YES!!  But for awhile I was worried!  Actually it wasn't really THAT bad... I had some sweat and sour special.  The chicken was lean enough, it's just whatever it was breaded in had a weird flavor.  Cheap?  Perhaps.  Worth ordering again?  Nope.

When we're in the mood for cheap Chinese food, we'll order from Emperor Wok.  They have almost always been good.  The sweet & sour chicken is really awesome - really good quality chicken breast, and the sauce is served separate so it doesn't get soggy.  They always overstuff the food containers, and you end  up with a ridiculous amount of food.  The Kung Pao Three is also usually good - really spicy and one large order can easily serve at least 4 people.  Delivery is usually quick and they've never messed up our order.  Only one complaint - one time we ordered and the food quality just wasn't up to snuff (it was sesame chicken and was kinda rubbery)...but it only happened once, and we've gone back despite it and not been disappointed.  We have avoided the sesame chicken since then, however.

The food here is very cheap.

The goodness ends there.  I've never been to the restaurant itself, so I cannot comment on the friendliness of the staff.

But the food.  Awful.  Just awful.

Although our food arrived in ~20 minutes, it was already getting cold.  And when it had been warmed, it had clearly been microwaved after the initial cooking, which was likely in the morning.  I don't know how they cooked it, but I'll relay my theory:
They cook a fry a bunch of chicken in peanut oil when they first open in the morning.  Then, they either let it sit on a warmer, or refrigerate it.  When someone (me) orders food (orange chicken), they throw it in a container, throw some sauce on the top of it(but making sure not to cover all of it), and microwave it.

At least that's what I hope they did.  Because if it was freshly made, and tasted like that, then they're doing something horribly, horribly wrong.

EDIT: 8 hours after eating it, not I, nor either of my two roommates are the least bit hungry.  There is something disconcerting about that.

I do enjoy Emperor Wok. Their delivery is hella-fast, and the people on the phone are friendly and understandable. This place is great for satisfying the Chinese food craving I usually get about mid-way through a Sunday afternoon. Yummy.

EDIT 12/17/07: quality seems to be taking a nosedive here. The last 2 times I've ordered, the food has seemed like it was missing something, I dunno, like, FLAVOR. I think they jacked the prices, too, and for semi-tepid, semi-flavored Chinese food, I can go elsewhere and shall.

When nothing else will do, Emperor Wok is there for you!

I must admit, I was a regular at Emperor Wok, meaning I used to go there twice a month or so. It's comfort Chinese fast-food, and it makes a quick take-out meal. The food is alright, a little too salty for my personal taste, but come on, no one can really expect much from a cheap Chinese restaurant! Then again depending on the day, I find that the chicken fried rice can be quite tasty.

The portions are HUGE, especially when you get the combos. Seriously, a combo order can last me for 3 separate meals, unless I am ravenous and I turn into Godzilla racking havoc on yet another unfortunate city.

    Did I mention it's cheap?

Oh! Oh! And now they serve bubble (bobba) tea-like drinks made with *real* fruit. Bonus!

Excellent.  We ordered it for the first time on Saturday while I was having another one of those "orange chicken" cravings.  I was pleased when the delivery guy brought a HUGE portion of crunchy chicken breast (no dark meat here, kids) and a box of the orange sauce on the side.  The chicken breading actually reminded me somewhat of McDonald's chicken nuggets.  My only complaint were the large onion pieces in the sauce, cause I am not a fan of them.

We live about 3 miles from the place and our food took about 35 minutes to be delivered on a Saturday night, which isn't bad at all.

I think this place is great.  Good crab rangoon, General Tao's chicken is HUGE and they dont give you those gross little gimp pieces of chicken, but big ol hunks.  Never had something from here I didn't like, and one order is definitely good enough for a couple of left over meals.  Won Ton soup is spectacular.  I don't know what's wrong with these other reviewers, or if they expect chinese delivery to change their lives...it's just chinese food...and this place is just good.

This is my staple Chinese delivery. Of course, I only get the exact same thing every time, which is the combo fried rice, egg rolls, and a smoothie with black pearls.

The fried rice is the kind I like, which is brown, and probably not the most authentic - it's not like the fancy-pants fried rice you'd get at a place like Duck Walk, where it seems healthier and lighter. No, it's old-school fried rice that will probably kill you. And I love it.

The smoothies are generally very good, however, be careful to not order it with black pearls except in the summer - since in the winter months they don't "move" as many smoothies, the black pearls tend to sit around in the freezer or something, and they get pretty stale and nasty.

I ordered from here last night for the epic plans of eating Chinese and watching Heros. And it wasn't bad, it was pretty average. There's better Chinese food out there, but if you're in the area it could do I suppose.

Horrible.  My husband and I ordered just last night and neither of us could eat our food.  We ordered Pan Fried Noodles with Chicken, Hot and Sour soup, Potstickers and Crab Rangoon between the 2 of us.  The Hot and Sour soup with neither hot nor sour and was simply not edible.  The Pan Fried Noodles had about a tbsp. of sauce on it and the noodles were not pan fried---they were exactly like ramen noodles, and trust me, we paid more than $.50 for it.   The dumpling sauce was barely adequate.   Please don't waste your money.  Yuck.  Why can't I find any decent chinese in Chicago?
