Whenever I am in Providence for work I stop by to get an Irish Rootbeer Float.  The bartenders are really friendly and are always coming up with great drinks.

We went to Fat Belly's last night for some pre-St. Paddy's day drinks.  It's an ok place with a fun atmosphere but I don't know that I'll head back.

We ordered drinks at the bar and were served promptly.  The beer was a little pricey.  Once we had our drinks, we sat down at an empty table.  We kept trying to flag down a server to bring us food menus but after 45 minutes, we went to get them ourselves.  It took another 30 minutes to actually be able to place an order...we had to physically grab the server when he was at the table behind us.

The BBQ chicken nachos were yummy and arrived in a reasonable amount of time, especially considering how busy it was, but once the food arrived, we never saw our server again.  We had to ask another server to bring our check.

There's only one bathroom for women upstairs so it sucks when it's busy - had to wait in a line amidst the crowd of bar folks.  The up side is that the atmosphere is fun and the people are friendly, so waiting isn't a big deal - more like a time to socialize.

    3.5 stars

I walked in on a Saturday night, and the room was barely filled. It left me wondering why the bar was so dead at 11... Until I discovered that there is an upstairs as well... (Awkward)

Besides being completely packed, I enjoyed the vibe quite a bit. There was a little dance area for those who feel the need to bust a move, but plenty of tables to just chill and talk as well. Fairly average beer selection on tap, but they make some pretty good drinks (the tiramisu martini was really good, even though my manhood was nowhere to be found...)

I can only somewhat complain about the bar service... Yes, it was fairly busy. But there were several incidents where I made direct eye contact with the bartender and was completely ignored. That seemed to be the case even for the attractive females I was with; that's when you know it's really bad.

All in all, definitely wouldn't mind coming back.

Went here last Friday around 5:00 p.m.and the place was PACKED.  This has happened a couple times where they refuse to open the upstairs even though you can't breathe in there. It was obvious they had the staff to do it too considering they were all hovering by the doorway.

Said screw it and went somewhere else.

Great beer selection.  The building is awesome.  The 1st floor is the best but there is a second poor it is ok.

They have beer and lots of TVs.  I wouldn't go for any other reason.  After watching an entire college football game I saw plenty of people come and go, mostly just stopping in for a beer but some chose to eat up sloppy pizza, wings and wraps but honestly I personally have no interest in any of the food there.  Especially with the   great New Rivers next door!

They have some drink specials and good service and may be one of the only places around that doesn't charge $6 for a full pint of Guinness.  While I do appreciate the price, on the whole I don't know what else this place has going for it.

So, I seem to end up in a Fat Belly's at least once on every trip to RI.  Three times already for this trip...so it's about time I reviewed it.  For me, FB is the perfect place for happy hour or early night when some people might want to eat, others not, whatever.  And it's never too loud to hold a conversation.

The staff is friendly.  The short red head plenty Irish waitress we had was a good sport, because we can be real D-bags...ya know, the good kind.

I had a blackened chicken sandwich, which was a touch over cooked, but still prepared better than 90% of the places you might order one.  The fries were hot and well seasoned.  We also had the BBQ chicken nachos, which I always enjoy.

Anyway, highly recommended for casual boozing and a light bite.

I love Fat Belly's. It usually has a little bit of an older crowd and my friends and I can be found here usually at least once a week.

Upstairs there is usually live music and I spent my last birthday with 20 of my friends up there and people still talk about how much fun that night was.

Service is friendly, food is decent, the only reason I didn't give it five stars is because they definitely could improve their beer selection and switch it up once in awhile.

Overall, Fat Belly's is pretty much my favorite bar in Providence, great atmosphere, great live music, great people, fun times all around.

One tip, don't pay to park, you can usually find street parking.

So I can't say anything about the food, never had it, but I can talk about the beer, service, and ambiance.

I've been to Fat Belly's a few times now, and will keep returning mainly for the friendliness of the bartenders and the clientele. Though there was almost a fight between 2 couples the other night - it was dissipated by the bartender.

However, even though I understand that Fat Belly's is an Irish pub,  I still wish the draft beer selections were a little more varied.

Also, last time I was there I went there specifically to see live music and then there was none - and the bartenders didn't seem to know if there should be or not. It was a Saturday night, and the other Saturday nights I've been there, they had live music, so I was a little baffled at the situation.

So for now they get 3 stars, but I have to say that the ambiance makes this a high 3 stars.

Great for beer drinking and watching sports. Wine is nothing special. The chef does a really good creative job on menu specials (gumbo, soft shell crab sandwhich, etc). Shaved steak sandwhich rocks. Probably the best food around in terms of pub quality for price. Like the rock/alternative music selection here. Parking can be a pain if something going on at RISD college. Service can be a little slow at times but bartenders are friendly so nothing to keep you from coming back.

Some might argue that it's not accurate for me to base my opinion of a place based on only having been there once for St. Patrick's Day, since it's probably a very different environment than a regular visit, but I say it's especially valid.  If I go to a place that packed full of people and chaos and am still impressed by the level of service I receive, that's grounds for a good review, in my opinion.

We arrived here mid afternoon on St. Patrick's day after having already been to 2 other bars.  We weren't very enthused by the first two places we went, so we decided to give Fat Belly's a try.  We'd been meaning to try one of the other Fat Belly's for a while, but they're all fairly far from home, so we were excited to see that there's now a Providence location!

It was a $5 cover for the holiday, which I didn't mind spending in the slightest, considering I've done a few Boston St. Paddy's Days, and it's at least $20 to get in anywhere decent on the holiday there.  We walked into the small downstairs bar area and were unsure about where to settle, but one of the staff members cheerfully informed us that the upstairs was open and there was live music.

We went to check it out and found a much bigger, nicer looking bar area.  We managed to score 2 seats at the bar, and quickly decided staying there for a while would be our best bet.  We stayed the rest of the afternoon until around 9 and had a great time!  All of the service was very friendly despite the chaos, the bartender got to know us and knew our orders, the band was good, and it never got overly crowded to the point of being unpleasant, since they were very good about not exceeding the building's capacity limit.   My only criticism is they don't have Magners Irish Cider on tap, so I had to drink it from the bottle.

We ordered dinner, and were very surprised at how quickly it came out on such a busy night.  The food was decent, the prices were fair, the service was great, and we had an all around great time! I'd definitely come back!

I just wanted to bring to your attention the service that I received last night (3/14/12) while dining at Fat Belly's Providence.

This was not my first time at Fat Belly's , but the 2nd time that I had terrible service from the same waitress. Last night, at 7:00 I walked into the restaurant with a friend and waited to be seated. After 5mins a waitress said to sit anywhere so we did. The place was not packed so we sat at a booth. The same waitress came up to us 10minutes later and rudely asked why we decided to sit there. She then proceeded to tell us with an attitude that we could not sit there and that we would have to move.

    1. It would have not been a problem in the first place if she told us where to sit.
    2. It wouldn't have been a problem if she asked us to move nicely
    3. This waitress has a terrible attitude.

This is the same waitress who turned me away 5 minutes before you opened one weekend. Saying there was no way we could possibly come in. Too bad the door was wide open...

To say the least the poor service that I've received from this waitress over and over again really makes me think about coming back again.

In my opinion, this restaurant does not deserve such an old, historic building.

I went into Fat Belly's for dinner and a beer on Saturday night 3/10/12 around 8pm. I found it rather strange that there was a bouncer at the door. Yipes, what kind of place is this? We  were seated fairly quickly in a corner booth. A few of the tables were filled 3 people to the right, a few couples to the left. Windows on either side, I was pretty happy.

The waitress came quickly and asked us what we wanted to drink. Before we answered she had turned around and walked away! Minutes later, she came back and I ordered a Guinness (it is an Irish pub after all). The moment the last syllable was out of my mouth, waitress turned and rushed away before I could ask for a black and tan too!! Five minutes go by and she swoops in with the beer, and walks away while asking what we'd like to order! What? Drive-by waitress can't stop! The place wasn't busy at all!

We eventually place our order, again in drive-by fashion, and sit back to take in the view. From my seat, in the corner, I can see seven televisions. If I was a sports nut, I'd be psyched, but I'm not. Probably would be a really rowdy place to watch a game. Funny thing was, most customers were glued to their androids or iPhones! They sure know how to have a good time...Highly recommend going there earlier in the day to avoid loud drinkers and loud music.

We ordered the pear and gorgonzola salad. Delivered to us by the bus boy who never returned after offering to bring us pepper. The presentation was beautiful and the salad was delicious. Kudos to chef. While eating, drive-by whipped in and tossed the bill on the table, flying swiftly up and away on the tails of the Fat Belly wind. We didn't see her until we went and found her to pay our bill. Not for nothing, it makes me wonder if the bouncer was there to prevent unsatisfied customers from ditching the bill for such poor service!!

It's a Rhode Island thing to be nostalgic, and I wish 3 Steeple Street was still there, where the service, atmosphere, food and drinks match the character and soul of the building.

This place has 2 floors, which makes it pretty big. The parking lot attached to charges $5 to park.

Lots of different types of drinks for an Irish Pub. It was pretty cramped due to the amount of people and the layout of all the furniture.

We saw a fight almost break out and then our group almost got into a fight with one guy passing by trying to flex his muscles at us.

Okay place for drinks, fairly mediocre for food. I have been for drinks and they have had pleasant bartenders and good beer selection. Went for lunch last week, and while the service was fine, the food left a lot to be desired... It came out super fast (I was with a group of five), but it was too fast. I got a steak sandwich, and you could tell that they had literally scooped the meat and veggies off the cooktop and onto the bun without letting it rest. The sandwich was oozing hot grease and really unappetizing. The downtown Providence lunch scene is pretty sad, so I will more likely than not be back, but I definitely have other go to places.

I'm going to go all Rhode Island and compare this place to what used to exist.
3 Steeple Street respected the beauty of its building. A restrained charm with a menu that dared to go beyond bar food gave me many a memorable weekend.

Then comes Fat Bellys. A sandwich board mars the beautiful facade and pavement. The whistle of wind blowing into the a kitchen from an open window is a bad omen. Being inside was like watching a friend in trouble and being unable to help. The once Mad Men-esque bar looks like any other college bar, with common macrobrews (bud, miller etc.), house music, a sticky feel to the tables and obligatory sports programming that no one is paying attention to. The crowd is mostly composed of the teen-mom jersey shore demographic, the kind that is stimulated by cheap beer and house music.

Then comes the food. The menu has been stripped down from the 3 steeple days to accommodate bar food made from food service grade items. Unimaginative burgers, wings, fries and the like. That open window? It made sure the chicken sandwich I ordered came on a cold bun with a thin dry piece of breast.

Something special turned into something mediocre, but people seem to like it and will come back. I won't.

I've been to this location a few times for lunch/dinner.  My fave is the truffle fries.  The huge selection of wings is pretty satisfying and the corned beef soup (I think that's what it's called) was surprisingly good.  Unfortunately other things that I've had here were lackluster.  Namely the pizza.  Unimpressive crust and the rest was just run of the mill.  I love a good pizza so that was a big disappointment.  3 1/2 stars would probably be a more accurate rating for Fat Belly's.  If you order the right thing you can have a good meal here and the service is solid.

I love each Fat Bellys location for its individuality. The new one, located in Downtown Providence, does not disappoint.

Located in the oldest building in Providence, FB has adjusted nicely to the confines of the historic building. I love the old windows and the charm of an old time pub. The upstairs boasts a huge bar area with a variety of tables. The servers are just as friendly and accommodating as the other locations. oh, the food and beer? Perfect! Tons of great beers on tap and 'pub food' that is surprisingly delicious. (Just don't count those calories).

Don't write off FB as another chain. This one carries on the pub tradition with authenticity, character and charm.

This place is GREAT! Staff is super efficient and attentive. The menu is what you'd expect from a pub, but the quality of their menu items continuously exceed my expectations; especially their specials! I must admit, I'm not much of a wing fan... but I changed my tune after trying their Parmesan Garlic, buffalo hybrid wings... AH-Mazing. My only gripe: Parking is a pain in the neck there if it's busy downtown.

Great pub atmosphere and beer selection. I tried the wings and the waitress suggested mixing the buffalo with the garlic parm and it was rather tasty. There were many things on the menu i'm looking forward to trying.

AWESOME beer selection at this little Irish Pub at decent prices. The bar is definitely the place to sit at. There are several TVs available so you might be able to catch a game. They have a standard menu but very delicious food. Their pesto pizza is absolutely a must-order. I breathed in the pesto and tomato based, italian sausage, chicken, caramelized onion and peppers pizza in no time. I didn't even share it with my husband... oops. So... get it get it get it.

Definitely check it out when you are in town!

It was only suppose to be a drink to warm up  from the cold outside, but I ended up  cancelling my reservations elsewhere for many reasons.

The atmosphere was very friendly and the local accents crack me up .  :-)  I did not make it upstairs to the piano bar, but the pub downstairs was very open and the wrap around bar was spacious and the bartenders made sure you were taken care of.  There was not a lot fo open space, but that added to the charm and the intimacy of the pub, especially on this cold night.

That night there was a group of Santas, elves and a Jack Skellington that came through-very fun.  Again, it shows the cheerful atmosphere.

The bar tender and wait staff are very helpful and friendly.  If you were not sure on a food they let you try it and they didn't even make you feel guilty for not liking it.  (Although, the tomato onion soup was good and loaded with herbs, but it was not what the taste buds were looking for that night.)

I tried the chicken BBQ nahcos-- OMG.  They were awesome!   Very crunchy, and the BBQ sauce and cheese were a perfect combo.  The cut of the chicken was just right so it does not make you choke on the nacho going down. (Yeah I am particular with chicken and nachos-lol)

The chicken and pesto, marinara  pizza was very good.  :-)   The size of the personal pizza was bigger than your average, but it was very good.  The crust was on the thinner side, but I prefer that anyway.  (Thank you to Jules to Pizza)  And the bartender offered to add more pesto  on request too.

I had the pear & Gorgonzola salad- minus the pears.  (yeah, yeah, yeah I know)  My stomach does NOT like pears, but I love Gorgonzola, so I had the salad only.   The tender was helpful to offer a substitute in fruit wise for an orange, but I don't think it would have been that tasty.

The preparation of the meals, and the discussion on which  meals to get with the staff  definitely demonstrate a staff that will go out of their way to make their guests feel welcomed and to accommodate.

Overall, I really liked this pub and I will definitely re-visit.

    Prices --- average.

And according to a local, I am not a *Skoook in Newport :-)

Some other things I learned, they Johnny Walker label for $35 a glass- and repentantly, that is cheaper for the area.

This place is pretty generic, with absolutely nothing to recommend it.  It's a chain restaurant, with all the mediocre food that comes with that title.
It's also an insult to any real Irish bars in town.  It's menu's standouts are panini and pizza, and they don't serve any sort of traditional Irish fare.
It seems popular with the uninspired after-work crowd, so I guess I should be glad that they all found a place and aren't crowding into any of the good bars in town.

The girls and I love both the Wakefield and  Providence locations! Start out with the Bacon Cheese Fries, by no means a healthy choice; but oh so good. I am partial to the Big Papi (or Big Belly) burger. The wings are excellent and the girls devoured their shared pizza tonight.
Our server was running around like mad because of the Black Friday crowd and 2 class reunions going on; but she kept up with us at every step.
Stayed with non alcoholic beverages because I had the kids; but their beer selection is decent.

What a great little Irish Pub, stopped here on a Saturday night and loved it!

When my friend and I first walked in we didn't even know there was a second floor and did not think much of the place and thought we were getting stood up by our friends that said they were there but no where in sight. However the Bouncer was kind enough to inform us that there was a second floor, we made our way up there  and one we finally found our friends in addition to great live music and a bar with a decent amount of beers in tap.

I loved the live music and the crowd was cool too. We wre able to grab up a table which is always a plus and a little thing that I like was they had coat hooks on some of the walls great for the winter months.

Overall, this is def someplace worth checking out, and quick little tip if he upstairs bar is packed take a quick trip to the downstairs bar which is usually less crowded.

After enjoying our experience at the Warwick location we decided to give the Providence Fat Belly's a try and again we left happy and satisfied.  This location has more of a pub feel than the Warwick location and seemed to have more seating and flat screen TVs.  Funny enough we ended up having the same server that we had at the Warwick location, again she was friendly, helpful, and quick on serving food and drinks.  Since we enjoyed the wings so much at the Warwick location we decided to give them another try and we couldn't have been happier, they were crispy and the buffalo sauce was perfect.  Their wraps are tasty and the fries are always served piping hot.  Highly recommend, we will be back.

My instincts were correct... this place is a little too young and a bit too loud. My date wanted to meet here and I didn't think it was an appropriate location for a first date. Too many people & too loud... typical Irish bar... two levels and crowded. Probably a good place to go for St. Pat's. But. I don't need to go back... it's nothing special.

My friends and I always end up in Fat Belly's the same way. We usually forget about it when listing the places we should go and always respond to it with an "oh right, Fat Belly's". I'm not sure why we don't go too often, but when we do it's always a good experience. There are two bars, one upstairs and one downstairs. The upstairs area is much more spread out and has a space in the corner for live music.

The drinks are decently priced and the service is usually pretty good. The bar attracts a good crowd and there's an overall laid-back feel even on busy nights. For a crowded pub it's never very difficult to find a place to sit and the atmosphere is lively enough to encourage jumping around from place to place. Overall, I'm really looking to make this a regular spot in the future, especially in the months when it's too cold for the Hot Club.

Fat Belly's is a decent pub. I visited on a Saturday afternoon, and several different college football games were going on simultaneously. The tap selection had a couple major brews to choose from, so I was a little under-whelmed.

The menu offered normal pub food, but nothing on the regular menu really jumped out at me. The special, calamari and truffle sauce, caught my eye -- and was delicious!

I've always drove and walked by Fat Belly's many of a times in Providence. I never really thought much of it as just another chain Irish Pub since there are others in East Greenwich, West Warwick and in Wakefield. From the outside it really didn't say, "Look! I'm a different Irish Pub! We have hot waitresses! We carry Guinness on draft! (duh) We have great food too!"

So when my chance to try Fat Belly's finally came, I really was apathetic about going there. I walked in and immediately noticed that the bar seems to be too big for the size of the entire restaurant...I thought that was kinda quirky since it seems like they planned on building a really big bar and than as an after thought, "what if people want to sit at tables and eat?" so it seems like they scrambled and shoehorned some tables in the nooks and crannies of the rest of the restaurant. For example, the walkway leading out to the bar from the kitchen is a narrow passage that is one person wide next to people who sit at the bar. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, just something I noticed and the waitresses there are pretty careful with the trays of food.

I ended up sitting at the bar with the people I was with and we each ordered. I asked for the wheat beer on tap but they ran out :( I than just ordered a Guinness, since I'm feeling more Irish than normal and I'm at an Irish bar. Next comes the food menu. Since I arrived, I didn't have any expectations of the food so I ordered the most typical thing on the menu. A burger. I shrugged and ordered the Fat Belly Burger, medium done. When the burger arrived, I was already two beers deep so was feeling buzzy bear and pretty hungry. I took my first bite and it was like, "omfg! This tastes so f'n good!" It was such a surprise. They cooked the burger just right, pink center and a salty, crusty outside that had some spices to make it an outstanding burger! Needless to say I finished the burger, in literally two minutes and loved every bite of it!

So all in all, I was really surprised on the quality of the food, beer wise it is the usual suspects on tap and I liked the the atmosphere of having low lighting and didn't mind the oversized bar. The waitresses were really friendly too!

I would definitely come back and try other items on the menu, but the Fat Belly Burger is definitely recommended!

Ah the wine list is good for a pub. Food prices too high for what you get. The lox platter was fishy and no wonder I was sick that night! I don't think I will be back I probably ordered the wrong thing however the music was awesome, old school clash, and the bartendress attentive. I just well think once was enough.

Fat Belly's is really a great place to relax, have a drink and enjoy great company.

Casual pub-style atmosphere, easy (free during the week) parking, friendly/attentive staff, and an excellent selection on tap.

Clean bathrooms, lots of seating, plenty of flat screens with the most current sporting events.

For the most part the noise level is moderate at it's height, so can really go here to unwind/catch up with friends.

Nothing bad to say about Fat Belly's!

I stopped in here after swimming 1.2 miles, biking 56 miles, and running 13.1 miles all in the same morning.  We were ravenous after the RI half ironman and came here looking to eat and drink anything.  The beer selection is ok, and the food average.  The  ambiance is pretty laid back and the decor is full of pieces of old ships that make up the rafters.  I'm not in any rush to return but I think it's a decent option within walking distance of some of the downtown hotels.

Best Burger in Providence? I think so.  Providence does have a nice helping of burger options but Fat Belly's Pub in my opinion brought out a burger that has changed my opinion about others and my appetite.  The first time I had their "Big Belly" burger, and I've been back since, I wasn't really all too hungry.  I was hoping to walk around college hill and go to another burger place that serves slider burgers.  Well, after reading the caption under the "Big Belly" I was sold.  It read as follows: "Black Angus burger atop caramelized onions with melted American cheese fried onion
strings, bacon, lettuce tomato, and savory mayo. 10.99"

I ordered the burger rare, which is risky but if I get sick enjoying a meal than I'll suffer for the night.  Between the bottom bun and the patty was a helpful amount the caramelized onions, bursting with flavor.  Of course the lettuce and tomato were fresh atop the patty but one could not forget the most important ingredient: bacon.  They are not cheap with the bacon, and the thickness.  You get more than what you pay for.  What I thought really tied the burger together to give it the title for "best" would be the fried onion strings with the savory mayo.  It was like eating everything you would customize on a burger but without the hassle of customizing it.

I'm not saying "Take that Luxe Burger Bar" but seriously, watch out.  In the end what makes Providence great for burgers is the amount of locally  owned restaurants.  Fat Belly's Pub really puts heart and soul into their establishment and the other ones located throughout the state.

This is a great bar because

    1. It doesn't get so insanely loud that you have to scream at the person next to you.
    2. They serve decent (if not exactly authentic) food
    3. Great beer/alcohol selection
    4. Live music on the weekends!

Seriously, I have not talked to a single Providence resident who doesn't rave about this place. Its two stories so there is enough room to fit everyone. There is a great mix of people from all walks of life, and their beer prices are very reasonable. This is sure to become a staple of weekend partying here in PVD.

I have been to a couple of different Fat Belly's and like this one the best.  My husband and I went two times in the last couple of weeks the first time on St. Patrick's Day.  We were seated promptly.  The food was excellent.  My husband noticed that his glass was chipped and asked for a new glass the waitress instead brought out a new Guiness and said she was unsure of where the chip went. I thought that was really nice.  I also like the fact that they played Irish music, served Irish food and had all the Irish beer.  Just what I was looking for on the holiday.

I returned with my children after the St. Patrick's Day race on Sunday.  The place was crowded but the food was consistantly good and the service once again was excellent.

Today is St. Patty's Day! Came to Providence so we didn't have to be in Boston. Came to Fat Belly's because it was the first restaurant we saw that was AWAY from the mall area and we were STARVING (I am sure we missed about a million other restaurants, but oh well! It was our first time in that city). Why not go to an Irish pub for lunch?? (it's also our 4 year wedding anniversary, by the way- I know you care!)

I don't know how to take the atmosphere of this bar. Some were wearing suits. Some were wearing business casual clothes. Some were wearing hoochie mama clothes. Some were wearing regular clothes. WHO GOES TO THIS BAR? Business people AND students?? (this is not far from Brown and RIDS- though the latter sorta sounds like an STI). I sure hope it's not students and PROFESSORS- that would suck (for the professors).

The St. Patty's Day Menu was SO limited! Like a salad, a burger, a few corned beef sandwiches, corned beef+ cabbage dinner, shephard's pie-- and that's IT. Blah. AND NO PRICES ON THE MENU WHAT?

Despite the craziness of the typical American version of St. Patrick's Day, we had good service. Our waitress was FAST and attentive. I had the Irish Belly sandwich (which was weird, but tasty- corned beef + tomato/lettuce + swiss + bacon + fried egg on grilled sourdough).
The first half of my sandwich just had the white part of the egg and I wondered if this "fried egg" was just the white part or what- but then I bit into my second sandwich and that yummy yoke of joy ran everywhere- thank goodness this restaurant knows what a fried egg is. This place would have lost a star if no yoke appeared...

My husband had a cheeseburger. He liked his burger. Both meals came with fries. The fries were "meh". I've had MUCH better pub fries. He agrees with me about this like ANY good husband would (especially if he wants to STAY married- he better keep agreeing with me!)

I am a bit dyslexic and I thought my glass or Riesling (which was REALLY stupid to pair with my the type of sandwich I got-- what the holy hell was I THINKING? But I love Riesling...) was $6, but it was $9. Oh my stupid transposing brain! I thought "wow good deal" and then thought "holy crap, what a rip off!" (it's Chateau St. Michel- sounds fancier than it is- you can get an entire bottle for like $13). Oh well- it was good, not flat, and the glass was clean, and it was for an anniversary lunch, so I can get over it. Hubs enjoyed his Guinness. We enjoyed the students freak out over the basketball games. And enjoyed the dirty business men looking at the female students. We enjoyed the music - it wasn't so loud.  I might be less than a month from my big ol 28th birthday, but I hate loud music like an 80 year old disgruntled, unhappy man does- you know the type of guy who calls the police when you vacuum because he can hear you. I'm not that drastic but I hate hate loud music. Ok, I'm a loser, but at least when I am that 80 year old person in what, 52 years, I won't be deaf!

    Anyway, sorry for the tangent-

Would have had a higher rating if the menu wasn't SO limited today.

Fat Belly's- you have a good place! We'll definitely come back! I looked at your menu online just now and I want to see what you REALLY have to offer! And if you make French onion soup that's not filled with soaking yuck croutons, I might love you. Might. :)

And Providence people- you have such a nice home! We really enjoyed our day trip, even though most of your sidewalks are uneven, which made me fall (it's ALL your fault). You people are pretty friendly, even when you're drunk. For those who have doggies, they are very cute and I wanted to pet/say hi to all of them! It was so nice to still be in New England but not be among craptastic people. But I'm still a city person, and many of you walk too slowly :). AND (tourists!) GO TO THE GALLERY NIGHT TOUR if you haven't- it's soo much fun! Look it up!

I was lucky enough to travel quite a bit while I was in college.  Actually, it really ruined 'going out' back in the US for me.  It was so hard to find a Pub to compare with so many I enjoyed abroad (dark wood, large TV's to watch the game, and chips served hot to help you get through the afternoon drinking pints of your favorite beer).  Finally getting to Dublin, the one variation I noticed was an almost unending stream of live entertainment, a man, his instrument, and a crowd eager to sing along.

Fat Belly's Providence opened in early December, and has fast become my favorite Pub in Providence.  Combining all of the things I hope for in a Public House, Fat Belly's has something like 17 beers on tap (with one of the coolest Tap systems I have seen on this side of the pond), a huge selection of Scotch, TVs everywhere, and menu filled with all of the things I love to eat while I'm drinking. But what really makes this THE spot is the live music up stairs Thursday Friday and Saturday nights.

I can't tell you how much I felt like I was back in Dublin.  Décor, good food and drink, and live music, all help make this feel like a real Pub, a public house, somewhere you feel at home.  I'll definitely be drinking here for years to come.
