Came here on a Tuesday for lunch. Place wasn't busy at all and probably don't need a reservation, but to be safe I'd probably make one. The restaurant is extremely cute, inside and outside seating, but be prepared to sit for a while. Our lunch took around 3 hours, including desserts.
The waiter recommended the burger, which comes with fries. The burger was actually really good. Got it medium well and to my surprise, still very juicy. The other dishes we ordered (ravioli and the go fish) were delicious as well. The dishes took a while to come out, (30 minutes), but since the food was good, I won't complain.
After, we decided to get dessert. Decided to go with the chocolate french toast sandwich. Took about 10 minutes to prepare. Ice cream was a great touch to the overall dessert. Only recommendation would be to put more than just one strawberry.
Oh, check in on yelp and get 10% off :) Pretty much $20 a person.
My family and I enjoyed happy hour at Finch's for my birthday. I chose this spot because it was close to home, had a good menu, and is dog friendly.
The patio isn't too big, so I'm glad I called ahead and made a reservation. Service was great. Our server brought out water for our dog before we even needed to ask for it. He was knowledgeable of the menu and very friendly. He also checked in with us on a consistent basis and brought out our food/drink quickly. He even brought me out a complimentary birthday dessert.
Our food was pretty good. We enjoyed the lamb sliders (I think this is no longer on their happy hour menu though), salmon cakes, garlic herb fries, mussels, cheese plate, and profiterole. The lamb sliders were good, but more like a meatball than a slider. It came with polenta which did not taste that good. The rest of the small plates were really tasty though. We chose the 5 cheese plate and liked all but one of the cheeses (which I forgot what it was). My birthday profiterole was really good! I'm not completely sold on the food yet, hence the 4 stars, but it was a pretty good value during happy hour.
I also wasn't able to have any wine, but I would definitely like to come back and have some wine and try more of their food next time.
This is such a cozy little grotto! My husband and I happened upon it during the course of date night this past Saturday and we were absolutely delighted. It reminded me of a European bistro, with the striped awnings and little white lights strung overhead, babbling fountains and subtle music from a live guitar strumming in the background. Â We were quickly transported as we enjoyed a bottle of wine and a generous sampling from the appetizer menu. I highly recommend the cheese platter with fresh honeycomb, which was a meal in itself!
Our server, Matt, was wonderful, setting us at ease and ensuring that we were well cared for during the course of our visit. Â Finch's Bistro and Wine Bar was perfectly intimate and relaxing. We will definitely be back in the future!
I absolutely loved this place! The atmosphere, food, service...the entire combo! The outside patio was adorable and very romantic, as was the inside of the restaurant.
I highly recommend the Ahi poke wantons to start off with, they were so flavorful and delicious! For dinner I had the pistachio crusted salmon and my boyfriend had the Finch's burger...both dishes were devoured and so very tasty! I had the haras pirque sauvignon blanc and he had the Justin Cabernet, both of which were so good we ordered a couple more glasses.
Dessert time! The chocolate french toast is one of the most unique, and irresistable desserts I've ever had...very addicting!
This has quickly become one of my favorite places to enjoy a good glass of wine, tasty food, and great music!
I just tried Finch's for the first time this past weekend & we will definitely be coming back! His little gem is tucked away on Girard and has a charming patio. The service was awesome, the wine selection was great... and the FOOD! My husband had one of the "best filets of his life"- word for word. They came paired with these delicious Gorgonzola potatoes (which I made him share with me). I had the pistachio crusted salmon- it was delicious and light. We finished with the chocolate french toast sandwich which was insane. We will be back very soon!!!
Review Source:My girlfriend planned my birthday here over the weekend for a party of 25. Â It was amazing. The food, The service, The personal touch they did to make my Bday special was like nothing I had experienced before at other restaurants. Â They had personalized menus, Balloons and tons of birthday flair, which was all done just for our party as a surprise. Â My GF took none of the Credit. Â :) Â
Go here and you wont be disappointed!  The wine, The Desserts  The food and staff are great!  Eat up, and be ready to roll home!
Thank You Finch's!
The atmosphere at Finch's can't be beat. Â It's delightful to eat outdoors when the weather is nice. Â Our waiter did not return once our lunch was served... after an hour and a half we took our credit cards inside to pay. Â He apologized first for not coming back, (he didn't want to bother us), and then for no longer taking a Passport Dining card, which they stopped honoring a month ago. Â There wasn't a sign posted saying that it wasn't valid. The service today was awful! Â It doesn't say so, but if you order the rustic turkey sandwich, it's fried in butter and quite greasy! Â The butternut squash soup when they have it, is amazing! (they didn't have it today)
Review Source:Food was ok. I ordered the mussels and eggplant puree, however when I took my first sip of eggplant puree it was like taking a sip of salt...I asked the waiter if I can have the soup less salty, but she came back and said the soup was pre-made and heated to order so the salt concentration cannot be changed...bummer :/ On the other note, the mussels were delectable.
DESSERT!!! the entrees and appetizers were ok...BUT do NOT skip out on the dessert. My friends and I were in a rush so we originally planned to take one bite of the nutella french toast. Yeah that plan did not follow through...we [3 full girls] demolished the plate under 5 minutes.
Location is interesting...I entered the address on my gps but my gps directed me to the back of the restaurant...the restaurant is located on the main street, so parking may be hard to find.
This place is legit. We ordered three appetizers and they were all great - lamb sliders, crab sopes, and mushroom pâté - during happy hour for a total of less than $20. That's pretty much unheard of for such high quality tasty food. The food is fresh, seasoned well, executed with an inspired touch.
We will be back for dinner.
My BFF and I popped into FInch's for a Friday evening happy hour. The restaurant is located outside of the busy La Jolla Cove area, further down on Girard (adjacent to the Vons shopping center). Because of being situated away from the hustle and bustle of Prospect St., parking is easy breezy.
Finch's offers one of the best happy hour menus that I've encountered in the La Jolla area. $5 small plates and $2 off wines by the glass. Yes, please!
To properly assess Finch's, we decided to nosh on a myriad of selections:
LAMB SLIDERS ($5) --- delicious!
They're served with herbed goat cheese and pickled cucumber, with a lovely Middle-Eastern-flavored sauce. Spectacular.
MUSHROOM PATE ($5) --- Delicious!
We both really enjoyed this plate. It comes with a generous portion of fresh bread (we asked for additional because the serving of pate is so plentiful), chives, truffle oil. True perfection. Loved every morsel.
GRILLED BAJA SHRIMP ($5) -- DELICIOUS!
Well-cooked. Serviced with avocado lime dip and pico de gallo, they are a delight to put in the mouth.
CRAB AVOCADO SOPES ($5) -- D E L I C I O U S !!
My favorite dish of the evening. In fact, I adored this so much that I asked for seconds! Â These easily rank in the top sopes that I've ever had. Guacamole is is layered on a fresh, crispy masa cake, and topped with a generous portion of crab meat. Drizzled with a little salsa and this is a veritable party in the mouth. I'm on a mission to replicate this dish myself.
The plates are ideal for sharing, the quality is superb, Â and I really can't imagine finding a better value in the area. Moreover, the wines are all generously poured,; my liver was a very happy camper as I was walking out.
I'm so happy that there's a new place in La Jolla that I can add to my happy hour rotation.
I only have positive things to say about this place because I had such a nice dinner here a couple weeks ago. Â We were exploring the area and came across this place thanks to Yelp. Â The appetizers, entree, and dessert were all excellent. Â I think the wine may have helped me enjoy the food even more! Â Our waiter was patient and friendly and got our orders right. Â It was a bit chilly, but luckily we were seated near a nice heat source that only shut off once. Â The other really special part of dinner here was the music. Â A musician sang and played a guitar throughout our dinner and it created a wonderful atmosphere! Â If you're planning a date this place is perfect for that and if you're not planning a date you should still check it out.
Review Source:Was there last sunday for my b-day with a few friends.
The place is super cute, it kinda reminded me home (France) because it's tiny and cosy. The beginning was weird cause they did not find my reservation but eventually they did.
Anyway the food was great, the special was sea bass with curry rice and veggies and that was my favorite meal. Friends got the mussels and enjoyed. We also tried the meat and potatoes, for me the meat was too cooked but everybody else loved it.
Some desserts and our super nice waiter brought a candle on top of the cake, very cute. we shared the profiterolles (I was doubting on the black cherries ice cream, but that was amazing). My pudding was kinda dry, I asked for ice cream on the side.
but anyway a very nice evening in that cute place !
A group of us walked in early in the evening without a reservation. Â We were told no problem, they could fit some tables together as long as we wanted to sit outside: this was perfect because the outside seating is really the best. Â You get put in an outside (but covered alleyway) with plants littered about to give a very intimate feel. Â It was a bit cold that night and their heat lamps were - _okay_. Â Not great.
The service was just outstanding: polite, helpful, and they checked in an appropriate amount (not too much nor too little!).
The food was...okay.  The appetizers were fine but not anything I'd be crawling back for.  My entree was over-seasoned (I like my food a tad salty but this was a bit too much).  A few people in our party ordered the special which sounded fantastic  - and, sadly, I can't recall what it was - but ended up being kind of generic.
Overall: great atmosphere and service, not the quality of food I'd expect for this price in La Jolla. Â I'd come back to hang out and drink wine but probably not come back for dinner.
I went here on a Sunday. The place is a hole in the wall.I found them on yelp.
food was amazing. There werent that many people when we went there. The service was just ok, however I am the kind of a guy who would rather get a good food with ok service rather than a good service with a ok food.
i will definitely go back again and hopefully make my experience a five star next time.
My wife and I visited Finch's a few weeks ago and we were highly impressed. Â
As you enter from the street you are taken through a walk way that reminded us Italy!
They were promt to greet us and seat us, we were an hour early for out reservations and they didn't hesitate to seat us. Â
Our server was fantastic. Â He went over the specials, took our drink orders, and commented on his favorites, which are the specials typically he said.
We started off with the crab sopes. Â Perfect size appitizer for two people, and extremely rich in flavor and had nice texture.
I ordered the Lobster Carbonara and my wife orderd the Filet Volontini special. Â Both were spectacular!! Â
For desert, the porfitillos and a toffee crunch were the nail in the coffee to put me in a good food coma when we got home.
We will make our rounds and come back again.
I recently hosted my husband's birthday dinner here and felt that the experience was exceptional. The owner, Linda, was so easy to work with and very accommodating to our requests. We were able to personalize the menu, bring in a pianist and decorate. Â My guests said the service was great, the food was delicious and that it was a perfect place for a dinner party.
Review Source:They're tucked away and a little hard to find, we almost passed it so it helps to take a look at the photos here to see what the entryway looks like. Although the place is charming and can take on both a classy & romantic, yet casual feel - the food was left to be desired.
The service was attentive and our waiter was very friendly. Â I ordered the lobster carbonara linguini which didn't have much lobster at all. Â We heard (and read) that they played live music on Friday nights, unfortunately this wasn't the case when we went. Â I'd love to give this place another try for date night, but can't really justify the $19 linguini for only what seemed like a couple (tiny) pieces of lobster..
I love this place. It's kind of tucked away, and has that quiet & romantic vibe. The food was so delicious, we went for happy hour, and loved everything. The server really knew the menu and helped with great wine pairings as well....which I love. It is quiet, dark and candle-lit. I heard there is live music sometimes also....that would be the cherry on the cake for me. The only thing I think they need to update their signage....referring a friend there is difficult in the evening because you can't really see the name from walking down the street, and it doesn't really look like there's a restaurant there until you enter. But whatever, I kind of like that it has that secret vibe about it. =)
Review Source:We absolutely love Finch's. The owners really care about bringing you the very best food, wine and service. Every time we go in, it's a wonderful experience. The atmosphere is great for couples and it can be a perfect place to take work associates. We bring our groups in on a regular basis. Thanks to everyone at Finch's.
Review Source:We just love it here! Â My boyfriend and I come fairly regularly and have never had a bad experience. Â The food is delicious, and at this point we've nearly tried everything on the menu...desserts included. Â I am a wine lover, and the bottle I get every time is only $32! Â My man's only gripe is that he would like to see some liquor offered, but don't worry that won't keep us away. Â
Another bonus, you can bring your dog and sit on the patio for a family date night:)
The tough thing about Yelp is that the star rating isn't very fine. Â For me, three stars is "No regrets", four is "We'd go back" and five is "We'd make a special trip." Â This is somewhere between a three and a four: Â I probably wouldn't go back, not because of a bad experience, but because there's about seven thousand other places in Southern California to try...
The salad was very good (arugula, asparagus, and feta make for a memorable combination).
The lamb pasta...here's an odd "complaint" (I won't even say it's really a complaint, more an observation): Â there was rather more lamb than I expected. Â This caused it to be a little meat heavy; not necessarily a bad thing, but a few more vegetables in the ragout might have tempered the dish very nicely.
We decided to head up to La Jolla and meet some friends at Finch's Bistro and Wine Bar. Â Many restaurants in Southern California claim the name "bistro," but it is rare to find one with the most crucial ingredient. It's not the duck confit; it's a dining room where everyone is welcomed and waited on by the owner, who may also be (or be married to) the Chef. Â Sleek but not stuffy, Finch's manages to be classy, casual, and classic, all at once.
The restaurant is family-owned and offers an extensive wine list. We started with the Calamari Mediterraneo for an appetizer, followed by the Meat and Potatoes (aka Filet Mignon) and Shrimp Portofino for entrees. Â The food was very well presented and palate pleasing; cooked precisely to order. Â The wine list is decent but don't expect cocktails; this is a wine bar and our server made some great recommendations. Â The dessert list is short, but contains several delectable meal-enders, especially the Chocolate French Toast Sandwich, which is covered in Maple Bourbon Bacon Sauce. The Baked Apple had a crust so wispy it dissolves on your tongue.
I'm being generous with the 3 stars due to the super friendly staff and great location. The food descriptions are fantastic on the menu, but are not executed as well as they are described. It's a very pretty back alley location that I wish was had better food. It does have a very romantic european feel to it and for a intimate glass of wine or two, it's perfect.
Review Source:Wrote a review on this place on a CMYE event but why not add to it's very own rating? It's well deserved anyway!
Keep a look out for it everyone as the place is tucked away and a little hard to find. But as soon as you walk in, you totally fall in love with the ambiance. You walk in and immediately see a cute French like atmosphere with white lights wrapped around trees and bushes. To the left you have the cute and cozy wine bar where the yelp event took place and straight ahead you have the entrance to the restaurant.
The event was fantastic and if it weren't for the yelp event, I probably would have never found this place! Brad the community manager set up a great check in offer - free appetizer and glass of wine with your check in! Had a glass of pinot and a fried stuffed jalapeno app. DELISH! My friend and I of course came starving and ready to order!
We ordered their mussels, prociutto wrapped asparagus, and salmon cakes. Each were tasty and left us satisfied. The bartender, Sterling, even set us up with some more of their tasty garlic bread to dip in the sauce the mussels came in. THANK YOU!
Cute place and definitely loved the food. I'll be back with my foodie friends for round 2 for sure! They've got a great happy hour that I wouldn't mind coming back for!
Cute little restaurant & bar right on Girard ave, a few blocks from the ocean.
It is not very easy to notice, as it doesn't really have a good sign. It sort of starts with the patio/garden.
Nice Happy Hour.
Not all food items were amazing, but some, like mushroom pate, were pretty extraordinary!
Cute almost secret type place! We love Finch's! The mushroom pate is phenomenal! The food is changes every once in awhle but nonethless, food and staff are always so friendly. The salads during lunch are just perfect in size and taste. for dinners, we have try just about everything.. i personally think you cant go wrong for a quaint little place like this!
Small restaurant that offers a outdoor patio and inside place as well. I've been here fo lunch and dinner.. one of the owners is really sweet! she always says hi and chats it up for a little...
Disappointed in general. Â Sad to find that I like the wine bars in Phoenix area better! Â I guess I expected more from La Jolla. Wine selection is not what I would expect from a "wine bar". Â It seems nowadays restaurants call themselves a wine bar if they serve wine, period. Â Nothing exciting in the in the wine selections.
I came just for wine and ordered a cheese plate. Really just below average on everything from the cheese to the bread to the wine.
A solid 4-star experience included efficient waiter, excellent menu, great selection of wines by the glass, and a dessert that should come with a health warning (as all great desserts should).
Started with a glass of Conn Creek Anthology, fantastic. Â My wife ordered the lentil soup and steamed mussels and I had an iceberg wedge and burger served with garlic fries. Everything came out perfectly. Â We overheard another waiter pimping the chocolate stuffed French toast dessert, wo we ordered one with a couple of decafs. Â Wow. Â Truly decadent. Â Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Â I really like this place for a nice casual meal on their covered patio on a nice evening. Â We'll be back!
Finch's is fantastic! We had starters, wine, and dinner. The bread was a nice start to go with our drinks and served with olive oil, tomatoes and balsamic. Mom had the lobster carbonara, dad had potato soup and I had the schnitzel. My friend had mussels and a hamburger which were equally amazing. Each of our entrees were perfectly prepared and we enjoyed dinner.
Desert was amazing! We had french toast (which will happen each time we return) and cheese cake. Finch's is truly a family atmosphere that can be enjoyed by all ages with unique seating that provides a perfect level of privacy. I love this place.
Wow! Â Just happened upon this gem. Â We arrived on the early side, can't help it as we are traveling. Â Allen, gave us wonderful guidance with the wines they had. Might I say that this appears to be a growing wine bar and one that Allen seems more than qualified to steer. Â I see this place growing into quite the wine bar, with the accompaniments that bring joy between wine and food.
Allen? Â Oh, he's your wine guy....no pretentiousness there, he is the guy in the know, with the wine that tastes great yet, is not over the top expense wise!can he be more perfect?
No.
I great evening, I look forward to seeing this place get its wings.......
Tucked away between two building in downtown La Jolla is this tiny jewel call Finch's Wine Bar. The sign is small but absolutely suitable for this adorable place. The outdoors sitting area reminds me of being a A'lsace. It's so charming and definitely romantic. If you're thinking of a spot to tell your special someone 'I love you" this is the place to go.
We had just arrived in SD so I didn't get a chance to fully take in this place. But, from what I've experienced, I would love to come back. The service is great and the food was there to match.
There's one dish there that you have to try, the mushroom pate. I know, mushrooms? Pate? what?? It works, trust me. I was a little apprehensive at first but one bite in and I knew this is going to be a favorite dish. It's creamy and just full of earthiness. We also had the pork schnitzel and the salmon, both were also wonderful. But, the pate is what you have to absolutely try.
Ciao and until next time, happy eating everyone :)
I heard about Finch's from a friend, so wanted to try it for my birthday today... It started very promising with the mushroom pâté and a Bellini to start, and I have to say that both were delicious! Tom and I really enjoyed the flavor of mushrooms and the truffle together... My scallops with mushroom risotto was nice, Tom had the pork schnitzel but substituted potatoes and spinach. I ordered an almond flavored sparkling wine from Temecula. My dish was pretty good, the schnitzel needed a sauce or gravy, a bit too dry otherwise. We had desert, I had the cherry ice cream with warm dark chocolate sauce and Tom had the fallen chocolate cake. I asked for Moscat wine, but they didn't have any (at least by glass) and so the waiter brought me a glass of something called Dolce, which was good, but i was a bit surprised that the selection was so limited, Tom's cake was not remarkable,
So, I have to preface with the fact that we frequently go to the 3rd Corner, and use that for comparison for both taste and overall value. Our dinner at Finch's for 2 was only about $100 less than a a dinner for 5 at 3rd corner where we had a bottle of Pinot Noir, I had a scallop dinner, and we shared a baked Brie and cheese and meats platter, and a couple of deserts, and it all was much more tasty, with a much greater wine selection...
Summary - food was ok, service ok, not great (waiter forgot our 10% Yelp discount), plus we had reservations, and still got seated at a small table next to another person although the place was almost empty, value was not great given the final price, wine selection for a "wine bar" rather poor... Overall value, so, so... Hence 2 stars..
I hoped that this may be a 3rd corner-like option, but turns out it just isn't!
What a fantastic hideaway. Â Tucked down a narrow alley in downtown La Jolla hums this charming little bistro. Â Between the outdoor courtyard and two small dining rooms, you're sure to find an area to fit the mood. Â I'd recommend the center courtyard if you like to people watch all around.
Each wine in the European red wine flight was great. Â The Cote du Rhone by the glass is a good value and is surprisingly versatile enough to match many foods. Â The beat salad was one of the best versions I have ever had. Â This sets the tone for the entire menu: the ingredients are fresh and taste exactly as nature intended. Â The beets were crisp and sweet. Â The essence of beet juice gently painted the greens balancing the acidity in the pickled onions and sweet vinaigrette. Â
The snapper en papillotte (steamed in parchment) was light yet comforting. Â The fish had a perfect texture and just enough juice of olive and herbs. Â Every potato, olive, and tomato tasted as if it were nature's definitive exemplar of how a potato, olive, and tomato should taste. Â
The turkey sweet potato pie was strange yet pleasing. Â It was as if Thanksgiving came early and jumped into Sheppard's Pie. Â What an original recipe. Â
They apparently offer wine pairing dinners and culinary classes, so this place seems destined to be mentioned among the best in San Diego. Â Despite the service leaving something to be desired, we shall surely return again and again.
I'd give this place a 3.5.
Finch's was very accommodating to me. Me, being a last minute planner sucker, needed a restaurant to go to for my birthday. My normal go to restaurant for such events (Piatti's) was booked full. Darn. My friend starts yelping and suggests this new place, Finch's. I tried to make an open-table reservation but the number of guests was too much (17) so I had to call. At first, I called and luckily, Finch's told me that they could serve me, whoopee! Problem solved. However, about 30 minutes later, I decided to change the appointment to a later time. The lady didn't know anything about my appointment even though previously, I had given them my name, number, and all the necessary information. She wasn't sure if she could accommodate me. I wasn't very happy at this point, but I got a call later saying they would take my reservation.
Now, on to the actual restaurant....
I liked their food! My friend ordered some mussels off their daily special apps which reminded me of a ciopinno. It was good. I ordered the meat and potatoes. The filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium rare (my favorite) and the pairing with the potatoes was absolutely heavenly. The bread  and the dip that you get is great. Piatti's is a place that gets highly rated for their dipping sauce, but honestly, I'd take Finch's sauces anytime over theirs. We also got chocolate stuffed french toast with nutella and bacon in it. I wish I took some pictures but it was a good pairing of flavors. It wasn't something too special though, it's something that you can make at home quite easily.
Now on to the bad,
One of my friends found a piece of GLASS in his salmon. It wasn't a small piece either. He only found it because he felt something crunchy in his salmon - which turned out to be glass. Quite the disappointment. The owners decided to throw us a couple of free desserts to make up for it, though. Various people were also buying me drinks for the night and their glassware was cracked =. It took a while to get our waiter back to exchange the glasses. By the time she bought us another, we already headed to the bar and got it ourselves.
Overall, this place is decent! It has a nice ambiance - perfect for a date. It'd probably end up being one of my new go to restaurants for when you need to be classy but not go broke for dinner. The only thing I would really crave from this place is their bread, however.
TIP: It seems like you're walking through the back of the restaurant when you first enter, but that's just how their entrance is. It's a bit confusing.
Figured we'd roll the dice and head to Finch's for dinner last Friday, coupon from Downtown Community Magazine in hand.  None of the Finch's menu entrées seemed fantastic to us, but the place just looks so darn cute and inviting; I didn't want to pass it up.
We walked through the narrow patio dining area--management, please get the leaky fountain under control--to the front door. Â Not a lot of space inside. Â Small tables and quite cramped, actually. Â My boyfriend is 6'4", and once his lower body was under the table there wasn't room for me to cross my legs. Â Ladies, if you've got a purse hook you'll want to bring it to Finch's since room under and between the tables is scarce and the rounded wicker chair backs aren't conducive to purse hanging.
I'd been torn between the salmon entrée and red snapper entrée and asked the waitress her opinion of the dishes.  The insight she offered was that snapper is "lighter" and salmon is "fattier" and "oily," facts I already knew.  In hindsight, it would have made so much more sense for her to describe how the fishes are prepared or why she recommends one dish over the other.  I have to admit I overlooked the part on the menu that notes the snapper is "baked in parchment," and had I seen those words I wouldn't have ordered the snapper.  The snapper was totally limp and bland, lacking any sort of personality.  I couldn't eat more than half of it, so Boyfriend finished it off.
My guy's "Meat and Potatoes" entrée was decent.  I thought the filet was tasty and cooked just right for me; however, my boyfriend ordered the meat medium-rare and didn't love that the center was definitely rare.  I was tricked by the "gorgonzola potato risotto" on the menu though:  large square chunks of potatoes aren't what come to my mind when I see the word "risotto."
Maybe a great dessert will save this dinner, I thought. Â Ordered the red velvet cake...and then our waitress told us there was none. Â Would have been nice if she mentioned that 5 minutes before when she brought over the dessert menus. Â We then went with my boyfriend's pick, the "Chocolate French Toast for Two," which the waitress assured us was a great choice. Â The combination of maple syrup and chocolate really put me off, and the dish was just too breakfast-y for dessert. Â My guy liked it though and ate it all.
This next part's a little embarrassing, and servers everywhere should take note.
When the waitress walked over to clear our dessert plate she asked with a straight face, "Should I take the dessert off your bill?" Â Boyfriend and I looked at each other, surprised that somehow the waitress overhead me say I didn't like the dessert. Â The waitress then smiled, and we realized she was joking. Â Her comment was in reference to how much we must have liked the dessert given that our plate was scraped clean. Â Earlier she made a similar comment about my empty snapper dish, unaware that my boyfriend had eaten half the fish and potatoes on my plate.
I'm not the kind of person who sends food back or tells restaurant staff that I hate something, especially if I'm dining with a coupon. Â That's just not me. Â Conveniently, during this dinner my boyfriend actually liked the food I didn't care for. Â No food wasted and problem solved.
The food was unremarkable, but the service was HORRIBLE. Â I think it must have just been our waitress on the slowness, since I noticed 2 other tables that came and went before we were even done with dinner. Â I had the Bobtie, a South African dish that was lacking in any flavor. Â The Braised Short Ribs were so overcooked as to be mushy, but the Yellowtail special was good.
As the time came for dessert, we ordered 2 different for the 4 of us. Â When someone other than the waitress came to serve them, he looked lost trying to figure out who ordered them. Â One was not what we ordered and the other (Red Velvet Cake), tasted like it was a week and a half old - VERY dry. Â Even though one was not what we ordered, we took it anyway, since we had waited sooooo long for them to be served.
A note to the owner (an older women I'm assuming was the owner). Â On a busy Saturday night, you really should spend more time seeing your guests are taken care of, instead of spending it staring at the seating chart all night. Â Also, the puddle of water next to the outdoor fountain and blocking the exit/entrance to the patio should have been moped up!
