I went here after having it recommended to me by some foodies at the hospital  I was working at.

The decor was great, it was quite loud inside, almost too loud to hear the 6 people at my table. The wait staff was pretty good.

I ordered the filet and baked potato, with the homemade lemonade. The lemonade was great, I would get that again. The filet was lack luster though. I was bored with it as well as the potato. It was cooked right just didn't have much flavor leaving me disappointed with a pretty big bill.

The carrot cake was good though, it was a large serving, enough for 2.

I had been to the Firebirds locations in Durham and Raleigh, so I knew what to expect. Me and my friend had originally planned to go to the nearby Cheddar's, but the overflow crowd waiting outside of that place indicated a long wait and thus finding Firebirds close by was a godsend! The shopping area where this restaurant is very nice and convenient to get to.

I ordered the steak sandwich and as another reviewer indicated it is a good sized piece of steak on a bun. The steak was cooked just as I requested (medium), and was seasoned well (maybe too well) so that no other seasoning or steak sauce was needed. The steak fries that came as a side were on point as well.

Firebirds is a nice upscale restaurant with good choices on steak, and seafood. There menu is not huge like some chains, but what they do offer is done really well.

So last Saturday night we go in at about 6:00pm without reservations. The first thing we see is some young people dressed for prom. Right then we know we aren't getting a table. Well the hostess tells us a 60 to 70 minute wait. It is our own fault for not planning ahead. A quick walk around the dinning area shows all tables full. This is SO unlike most resturants where the hostess ( who is about 12 years old) tells you a long wait and you look around to find a half a dozen empty tables. Then you wait an hour only to sit at one of the tables that has been empty since you walked in the place. NOT so at Firebirds. This place was packed!
30 minutes later they call our name and we are walking to our table. Yep, only 30 minutes after we walked in!. Too good.
Well if you look at any of my other reviews I am VERY demanding. It is my money and I will choose where I spend my money and if you give me trouble at the hostess stand, bad service or lackluster food you will never see any of my money again.
So very very soon after we sit down our waiter stops by. His name is Andy. Now stop right here. Write down this name or remember it. DO NOT go to Firebirds without asking to sit in his area. After he took our order even my son said "That guy is a professional waiter".
Super quick service, great food and good size protions. This couldn't be better. We will be back over and over.
I split my meal with my wife and Andy had the meal split in the back. We each had a plate and there wasn't an extra charge like in some places.
Go here and you will not be disappointed.

Had a really excellent dinner here. We both had the blue cheese filet -- cooked to perfection.  Our server, Deven, was really excellent. She put up with our slow pace and helped make the evening special.

    Definitely will come back.

I had been to the Firebirds in Charlotte & loved it, so when I found out there was one in Winston-Salem, I had to go. I ordered the special which was steak & lobster tail. I got the loaded potatoes with it. It was amazing!!! The best dinner I had in a long time.

I'd make this a regular place to eat, but the food is pretty pricy. Definitely a place to celebrate special occasions.

The good to start--- ate at the comfortable bar, very nice bartender, good service. Nice tv to watch the game, while others sat in nice dining room.

The mediocre- I had the ribs, with old fies and lame slaw.  The ribs were sauced mercilessly.  The meat fell off the bone from steaming the meat, not from properly smoking, or roasting it.  The ribs were shaved to the bone, leaving hardly any meat.

The bad-- the price.  They are selling a pretentious high scale experience without the food to back it up.  Interestingly, the couple next to me ordered one drink and ordered food to go.  Seems to me, they must have gotten the worst of it.

Can I get a what what? De-lish! Love the prime rib. And the fresh fresh salads! Oh, and get the horseradish sauce AND horseradish. Mix it up good (not too much fresh - don't get crazy). In.Cred.Ible.

Five stars are for the separate Gluten Free menu! The food and atmosphere were also nice. I had a strip steak and loaded baked potato and it was done to order. My husband had one of the fish specialties and said it was fantastic. The only drawback 4 stars not 5,  was no gluten free dessert. :(

We (2 adults & 2 kids) ate at Firebirds for lunch on Sat. 8/11/2012.  The restaurant is beautiful.  I love the fire places - would like to re-visit in the cooler months.  It looks exactly like a restaurant you would see in the rockies.  Nice warm dark hardwood furnishings.  The bar area is gorgeous & I rarely even drink when dining out.  Even the restrooms have a special touch.

The food: My wife had the buffalo meatloaf.  It was fantastic!  the brown sauce was perfect.  The parmesan mashed potatoes were great - creamy & smooth.  The green beans were a nice addition to the meal.  I had the steak au poivre.  Again, the sauce was spot on.  The steak (sirlon) had a good wood fired flavor , but it was a little tough.  The parmesan potatoes were a hit with all who tried this dish.  We split a ceasar salad - very crisp lettuce & flavorful dressing.  Cold plates showed a  special touch of class.

The children ordered ribs & a burger from the children's menu.  Both hits!  The ribs had a very nice smokey flavor & were so tender the meat fell off the bone.  My only complaint would be the salt level was a little high.  The hamburger was large & juicy.  My son enjoyed the fries.  Firebirds had a large diverse selection for kids which was refreshing.  Many restaurants do not cater to kids & offer only token meals.

We will definitely return.  I would recommend to anyone.

This Charlotte based NC chain has some pretty good food to offer, in a very pleasant atmosphere, with excellent service, and at a reasonable price - four things you look for in any restaurant. The interior is modern and stylish with soft colors, comfortable booths and tables, and a nice slick bar area. The menu is Contemporary American featuring, of course, meats cooked on their wood fired grill.

I've only eaten lunch here, today actually, and can only comment on those items we tried, but each of the dishes we had were excellent, with some nice combinations of flavors. The Coconut Shrimp appetizer ($10.50) came with Tortilla Slaw and Mango Habanero Chutney, and was simply superb. There were 5 nice sized shrimp, tempura battered, perfectly fried, with a nice soft coconut taste, without any artificially sweet flavor often found in this dish. The Tortilla Slaw was unique - different colored strips of tortilla, shredded purple & green cabbage, and a type of seed, cilantro, lime, and some heat. The Mango Habanero Chutney added some additional heat, and a touch of sweetness. Very, very nice dish, came together very well.

The  1/2 rack of Baby Back Ribs ($12) came with Steak Fries & Slaw. These are some of the best BB Ribs I've ever eaten. They suited by tastes exactly - falling off the bone tender, with a Java BBQ Sauce that was very tasty, but without the over-powering sweetness often found in ribs. The Steak Fries were very good - crispy, and with nice potato flavor. The Slaw was unremarkable. Another excellent dish.
The service was very, very good.

The beer I ordered was accompanied by a large, very cold glass - I always enjoy that touch. A separate small bowl of ketchup was served with the fries - another good touch - Green Valley Grill and Print Works Bistro both do that, as well. And finally, a wet, hot towel was brought to help with the rib cleanup - and when the waitress saw my wife was also trying the ribs, she returned with a towel for her too - nicely played.

I like what I saw and experienced at this place, and I'm looking forward to a dinner here soon - very soon - They offer Crab Cakes with the Tortilla Slaw, Prime Rib, a variety of steaks, and of course, those ribs.

Great place right off of Hanes Mall BV. Had the Blue cheese burger and it was excellent. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. They have drink specials all the time and my wife recommends the desert pear margarita. Quickly becoming a hot spot to eat.

Went here for dinner. I have always liked the decor of this restaurant. You can go casual but you can go more dressy if you want. The food was pretty good this night. I had a side salad with ranch dressing. The candied walnuts were a nice touch. For the entree I had the blue cheese filet with a loaded backed potatoe. I liked the sauted mushrooms that came with the steak. The steak was cooked right and was tender. The blue cheese topping and the sauce was a little too salty. E loaded baked potato was delicious. Our server was not very good. I hate use stereotypes but she was a "dumb blond". I ordered a beer and drank it. Then I asked for water and she proceeded to fill my beet glass with water. She had forgotten that I had ordered the beer. She was also not very attentive.  Could have been a five star rating if they had used less salt and the service was better.

This place is alright!  Honestly, it is a beautiful restaurant.  The wine wall is gorgeous.

Every few weeks my girlfriends and I get together on our day off to shop - this has turned into our go to place for lunch and a glass of wine.  My friends encourage this behavior, not me.  I am a fan of simply prepared food and this place sometimes goes way beyond - in fact - I think Guy Fieri might be in the kitchen.... Heavy salt, garlic, condiments, dressing, etc...

Example.  The tempura coconut shrimp appetizer came with a heavy, thick coconut crust (it did not seem like a tempura to me).  The 5 large butterflied shrimp were set on top of a huge spread of mango chutney with a mound of tortilla slaw in the middle.  The presentation was fantastic.  But for me, the garlic in the slaw did not pair well with the syrupy sweet mango chutney. Plus, the shrimp were so dense.  But, my friends killed it!  They loved it!  They also love places like Chili's and Applebees (I mentioned that so you know where there taste buds have been and like to go...).  My preference would have been a lighter coconut batter with a small dollop of mango chutney - but it would not have looked worthy of the $10.50 price.

All of the salads I have had come way over dressed for my taste.  If you are like me, make sure you ask for the dressing on the side.  And, if you like garlic, great!  Because if there is garlic in the recipe there is plenty of it.  My Caesar salad was very heavy with dressing and loaded with Parmesan cheese shavings - maybe that sounds good to you but for me the romaine lettuce was no longer the star of that dish and it should have been.   Salads are served in chilled bowls with chilled forks (love that).   One of my buddies wakes up on our shopping day thinking about the Colorado Chicken Salad.  There is no hope of us going anywhere else, is there?  She loves the blue cheese, the cranberries, the toasted pecans; she has failed numerous times attempting to make it at home.

The Turkey Club is a very good version of a club - served on jalapeno corn bread.  I  get the cider slaw for the side which is simple enough for my taste and quite delicious.

Even though I was complaining above about being forced into eating here by my girlfriends, I do have something to look forward to besides the atmosphere at this place.  The meal I have settled on as the best for my crazy taste buds..... a bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup with a glass of La Crema Chardonnay.  Oh, and warm bread that is always offered when you arrive!

Food was great. Kids meals are to high. The steak kids meal I get being $8.00 but the others. But a 25.00 to 30.00  for steak is a little much. I give 3 stars only because so many different steak houses in Winston with cheaper prices, and kids meals over priced.

The steak sandwich was very good. It's literally just a steak with a piece of bun on top and bottom of it. The service was decent. The prices are a little on the high side, but we expected that going in.

The drink menu is pretty large as well. We sat near the bar and the bartenders were putting out some crazy looking cocktails nonstop. I would go back.

This is a busy place with pleasant service--make a reso if u go on the w/e--we order the hamburgers as they are delicious and very reasonably priced.  Also good salads. Have had other food here and it was fine--but frankly, we go for a casual hamburger.

For a nice evening without the kids, we met up with two other couples at Firebirds. I knew I'd like Firebirds from the moment I walked in the door. The atmosphere is trendy and hip.

The wait service was okay. Nothing memorable either way. Prices were on the steep side of the hill.

Started off the meal with panko breaded Ranch Rings (onion rings). They were yummy. Great flavor. Four members of our party ordered the Grilled Shrimp and Strawberry Salad, and according to each of them, it was fabulous. My entree was the 7 oz. Filet Mignon (minus the applewood bacon...I don't eat pork). It was delicious. The potato was also good.

Overall, I'd recommend Firebirds for the ambience and the variety, if it's in your price range. It was a good experience, because we had the right party. As a parent of small children, though, I'll warn you to leave the kids at home like we did. They won't fit in here.

The bleu cheese filet is out of this world. This particular visit was on Valentine's Day weekend so they were a bit weeded. We had to ask for bread and got it in time for dessert... we split an entree but yet it arrived w/o a 2nd plate. But, despite the lack of attention to detail, the food was amazing as usual.

Never quite sure what you are going to get from a service level perspective.  Tonight, it took a few minutes to be acknowledged when eating at the bar.  This place serves bread when you get seated.  Tonight, our bread came out after we finished our salads.  Ordered the wood fired salmon, which has always been consistently good.  Au-gratin potatoes were warm all the way through (sometimes they have been cold).

Been here 4x and have only had the filet migon. Though I have only ordered it medium done it has been served with a wide array of redness.  The menu features a good selection of sides which are a decent sized portion.  Restaurant has upscale feel and the bar is very attractive.  Kitchen can be slow to get food out.  Nice selection of wine (1/2 on Monday).  Filet at Bleu is slightly better at a comparable price.

This is one of my favorite Winston Salem restaurant! They have excellent steaks and salads. You can dine for less than 10 dollars (Large Salad and drink) or you can have a wonderful steak and a bottle of wine... Speaking of Wine, as long as its not a wine they sell, you can bring it in without a corkage fee.

    Things to eat:
    Peppercorn Sirloin
Filet (Add mushrooms and Blue Cheese, you wont regret it)
    Smokehouse Chicken Sandwich
    Any Burger
    Southwest Au Gratin Potatoes
    Baked Potatoes

A previous comment mentions the level of Salt, I have to say I have never noticed this, but maybe I am less sensitive to Salt.

You can wear shorts or a suit and not feel out of place!

Had the fish special, very tasty - not really as gourmet as they try to dress it up to be, but a big portion of solid food for a fair price.

Drinks here are very good - I love Hendrick's Gin, and their Cucumber Gimlet was really good (I had two). Ordered the second one a little less sweet than the first, and it was fabulous.

Not really high-class dining, but for the price of a chain steakhouse (Outback, Longhorn, etc) you can get better fish or beef with better service at Firebirds. I'll probably be back next time I'm in Winston-Salem.

I only had lunch at the bar so I can't comment on a lot of the food but the experience I did have was pretty good.  The decor is attractive and upscale, definitely more so than the nearby Texas Land and Cattle Steakhouse that I reviewed earlier.  Firebirds' menu is standard American--steak, ribs, chicken, seafood.  I had the green salad with fried chicken tenders and it was tasty.  I was served by the bartender and while he seemed to be attentive the service was actually pretty slow.  It took me an hour to get out of there and all I had was the salad and iced tea.  Total price including tip:  $15.  I would pick this place when in the area before Texas Land.

    One word:   SALT.

We've eaten here twice.  Both times, I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu:   Steak and Lobster.  Both times, the steak came served with enough salt to kill a shark.

We gave it a second try just because we wanted Firebirds to be good.  We hoped that our first meal was a fluke.  It wasn't.

Keep in mind that we are in the south.  Most southerners' only relationship with seasoning of any kind is with salt.  This place is for them - not for you.

Two stars, just because the inside is nice and cozy.

YUM-O Cocktail menu- lots to chose from..I love the Desert Pear margarita...food was tasty- had the blue cheese filet, mushrooms and baket potato (which was especially good)

Restaurant is really cool on the inside- sweet bar area....I like this place- good date spot!

I held out hope that Firebirds would be a change from the same run of mill moderately to high priced restaurants around Winston, but I was disappointed.

The building itself is nice enough, very attractive bar area with large comfortable bar stools to sit on if you have to wait.  Overall, the dining room is very pleasing, and not too loud, even when full.

However, the menu was boring.... steak, some seafood, salad, soup and a few sides, three of which are potato in some form.  Wow, way to be original.  I decided on the filet mignon, but they were out, even though it was only 7 PM.  So I went with a bacon wrapped steak and shrimp, mostly because nothing else on the menu caught my eye... at all.  The bacon was falling off of the steak when served, and the shrimp were chewy.

The waiter seemed to be a bright spot when we first sat down, but he soon forgot all of our appetizers and didn't bring them out until 10 minutes after the salads had been served.  A couple of the sides that we ordered were missing when the entrees came... it was huge mess.

This Firebirds is relatively new, hopefully I just had an unusually negative experience, and/or they will get it together after being open awhile longer.
