This is my home away from home when I am in New York City. I love the ambiance, the drinks, and the service. The crowd on a Friday or Saturday night is very lively and vibrant. My drink of choice here is a Whiskey Sour, it's the best. I can't wait to get back.

Music is too loud, and lighting is too dark. They make good mocktails.

I went here for a friends birthday on a Saturday night with a few of my friends. We showed up a little later in the night and found out that this wasn't one of those late night bars. The birthday girl and her close friends had already had a few too many when we got there. II ordered a couple of the fancy cocktails and paid accordingly. The bartender was very personable and made the drinks with a little more flare than you usual see. The bar itself is rather small, which lends itself to an intimate atmosphere.  I can see the appeal, but I myself am a fan of the more active bars with a little more going on. By the time 1 o'clock hit, we were the only ones left in the bar. Still, I would recommend this place if you're looking for an intimate evening with one or two classy cocktails.

I don't know why, but I always dislike this place when I'm here (usually not by my choice). There is usually hardly anyplace to sit, it's crowded, too dimly lit and the crowd has been kind of lame when I've been there. The drinks are good but most places do great drinks these days, I always judge by atmosphere and this place is severely lacking!

    This place was so good.

    Southern Gentleman - delicious

    Paper Plane - good

    Southern Gentleman - good

    Teenage Riot - good

bartenders are nice and will make one offs for you custom. It's a small place, great to hang, talk esp if you're on a date.

Great cocktails! I ordered the Beijing Mule (jasmine vodka, lime juice, ginger syrup, pomegranate molasses) which was great and not too strong, though the ginger flavor overpowered the other ingredients a bit. It also came topped with a flower, so bonus points for presentation. My friend had the monkey shine (citrus vodka, triple sec, guava, lemon juice, campari), which was sweet and fruity. Both of our drinks were $13 each.

We arrived around 8pm on a Friday night and there were plenty of empty tables available. By the time we left around 9pm, it was starting to fill up. The atmosphere is very 1920s-esque - red velvety armchairs at tiny tables (with booths for bigger parties), dim lighting, and jazz music playing in the background.

Definitely recommend it for both their drinks and atmosphere!

Came here on a whim as Raines Law Room was closed for a private party.

Bar tenders were all very nice and engaging.  I told them what I was looking for (egg white based bourban drink) and they came up with a concoction that was very good.  It think it was called Silver Rye.  Had a few more barternder's recommendations and all the drinks were mixed well and very good.

There's lounge seating in case you have 3-7 people but we sat at the bar which was great just hanging out and ordering drinks over conversation.

It was a pleasant surprise to find this place!

Met up w J on a Fri evening after I failed terribly convincing him to shop for kitchen accessaries at Marshall's over Sur la Tables. Anyways, we were both happy to be sipping our cocktails over the bar to unwind our week! it was watching bartenders orchestrate his barwares while making our drinks, I had their happy hour special tequila w jalapeno which was perfectly made w tequila and a hint of not so overpowering jalapeno, I had to hold my urge to order a third one! J had his holy water, oh boy, I'm not a gin girl, but whatever was in there totally enlightened me!  I love the fact the menu offers varieties and each spirit is well composed! setting of the bar is small, intimate w a casually classy vibe, enough room to stand right by the entrance and some small tables to the left of the bar. definitey a good date spot and i'm definitey coming back for more!

Fun little place. Came here early in the evening with a friend from out of town. We had an hour to kill between dinner and meeting up with another friend and thought we would have a drink somewhere in the neighborhood. I think we just hit the tail end of the after-work crowd so things weren't too busy yet.

Love the ambiance, it reminded me of one of the bars Don Draper took one of his many women to in the early seasons of Mad Men.

The cocktails were tasty, but served in pretty small glasses.

I would agree, this is a nice date place, maybe somewhere to have a few pre-dinner cocktails before heading off to dinner somewhere else.

This place was fine.  I came here on a Saturday night date.  I thought the guy was kind of a loser, but my 3 star review is because my first drink, a Manhattan, was gross.  My second drink was a kettle and tonic.  Much better.  However, I am not about to give a bar five stars for correctly combining vodka and tonic water.  Overall, I thought the crowd was kind of unattractive.

Came here with a party of 5, they sat us at their big booth--THANK goodness, who knows where else they would've put us! This place is VERY intimate. Tables are barely for 2 people. Their cocktails are fun and creative--yet strong. I love my Dark N Stormy, and they make a delicious one with REAL ginger. My friends and I mostly sat there enjoying our cocktails, and the waitresses didn't bother us too much and let us do our own thing.
I like the whole speakeasy vibe, but let me just say, this place can't look very good with the lights on. Firetruck red leather booth seats, blue tiles on the wall--no wonder they turn the lights down, to cover the cheap decor! I don't mind too much, this place is good for drinks and only that.

The first time I came here was a long time ago...around 2005. I had a friend who worked here as a barback, so I came to pick him up. I sat at the bar waiting. The bartender was really sweet and made a royale. I don't remember the name exactly, but now when I think back, that was my first classic cocktail. All I remember was that it was served in a martini glass, pink in color, well balanced and delicate in flavor.
Fast forward 8 years later, my friend and I were in the neighborhood and I decided to come back here for a cocktail. We sat at the bar, and checked out the place, it looked exactly the same, domed entry way, velvet bar stools, and lounge booth sitting. The crowd was a mix, some rowdy people at the bar, some couples in the lounge area. I order a ramos and the bartender gives me a questionable look and says "That's a brunch cocktail, but I'll make it anyway..." I've never heard of that before, so he goes to the other end of the bar and prepares it. It arrives all foamy in a tom collins glass. I took my first sip...not balanced, too tart and I didn't detect any orange flower blossom at all. Next I order a mint julep, it was too sweet. I think I'll skip this place when I'm in the area.

Flatiron Lounge is a good date place if you want to sit close to each other and whisper (yell) in each other ears...

Music is loud, the interior is dark, the deco is kind of funky....

We ordered 8 cocktails and I got to have taste of every single one of them (this is the rule of the game!) Nothing really outstanding but all well made and were quite balanced! Maybe that's the problem with my experience with Flatiron Lounge, everything was OK and Good.. but not memorable!

The salted nuts though made me kept wanting to drink more water.... the table was so small... no way we can fit 8 cocktails and 8 water glasses and nut bowls...

A friend decided to have their birthday soiree here on a Saturday night.  A prohibition-themed bar reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties, they take their cocktails very seriously.  A medium-to-upscale crowd looking for a classy time with some well-made drinks.  I had the "Loving Cup" - rum, guava and Swedish punsch.  The price is on the higher end but you get value for your money with show and display, alcohol content and overall presentation.  Some friends went with the class "Old Fashioned" -- a fitting drink for the establishment.

The domed, warm-lit entry way is inviting for those seeking a trendy yet intimate establishment to either catch up with an old friend or to extend an intimate evening with post-date drinks and good conversation.  The walls are lined with tables set for two, enough to hold your cocktails and nothing more.

It does get quite crowded towards the latter half of the evening from 11 pm on.  There is little space to meander from one end to the bar to the other so it's best to find a spot and stay there.  Not a great place for parties or crowds as there's very little standing room to chat with more than 2 at a time.  But overall, a good place for good drinks with a friend or two.

    3.5 stars...rounding down.

Let me start by saying this place is very cool.  I came here for after-dinner drinks on a date, which is probably the only reason one should come.  Very dark, candlelight, cool drinks, intimate make it perfect for this type of situation.

I personally find the idea of having to make a reservation to sit and get drinks somewhat odd.  I sort of wish I didn't know my date made the reservation.. is that weird?  However, this is very understandable given how crowded the bar area was.

I tried two different cocktails, neither of which I remember the names.  Both were quite good though.

I definitely recommend taking a date here.

My cocktail was actually quite good but man, $14 bucks a pop is pretty steep. I don't know if I can be paying a minimum of $60 to get drunk. Apparently some movie was shot here? It's definitely a cool looking spot though with the tunnel of light (my name, not theirs) leading to the bar.

We came here for my friend's birthday and it was pretty fun. The place was crowded but the seating area had several tables open so it was easy to find a seat.

The reason I am giving this place a 3 star rating instead of higher is because I really did not like my drink. I got the Harvest Moon because I was very interested that it would combine pumpkin and whiskey together. However, when I got the drink I didn't taste any hint of pumpkin. I didn't like my drink so I was too nervous to order another one. One of my friends ordered a French martini (off the menu) and after I tasted it, it seemed pretty good.

One thing I didn't like was that our waitress charged gratuity on our bill, saying that "there was alot of us." There were just four of us so not really sure where that came from. Something to note is that they serve really delicious snacks at each table. We actually asked the waitress where they get their snacks from so we could know how to buy it but she said she didn't know where they order it from.

The Flatiron lounge is an odd haunt. Dark and mysterious as you enter, this place had an old speakeasy feel to it.  The lighting was so low we needed to use our smart phones to view the drink menu.

That said, if you like an art deco interior with low lighting and a place that serves up some very nice cocktails, this is the joint for you. I liked it because it had a different vibe from most other bars. The attractive server sat us down in a nice booth and efficiently brought us snacks and our cocktails and was pleasant if not a bit serious.  But this place has a serious feel about it, typical of most mixology type places that take pride in their concoctions.

All in all, it was an interesting place and the drinks were quite good, as were the snacks that were served with them.

My only complaint is the lighting (if you can call that a complaint).   This place was so dark at 5pm that I wondered if there were caskets full of dracul in the basement below.  I looked for telltale fangs on the server - didn't see any - but this would be a perfect vampire bar.

I left intact - no holes in my neck, and overall liked the vibe and unique nature of this venue. I'll probably go back for a drink again, but will be sure to bring a flashlight, a cross and some wreaths of garlic.

We were actually waiting to go to Raines Law Room here.  I'm a LA girl through and through and I couldn't believe we had to put ourselves on a wait list and wait for Raines Law Room to call us!  We were at Flatiron Lounge from 9p till almost 1:30a before they called us.  Crazy.

Anyhow, Flatiron Lounge has a large selection of fancy cocktails that were really good.  Clearly when they're this good, you have "mixologists" and not "bartenders" making the drinks and it takes longer for you to get your drinks.  Also a heftier price tag ($13 a drink!).  But it was worth it! Drinks are strong too...Beijing Mule and La Bamba and I was all set.

Came here this past Saturday night as we were waiting for a text from Raines Law Room and Flatiron Lounge is conveniently 2 blocks away.  At first I had this confused with Flatiron Room, which is north of Madison Sq Park (and I personally like better.)  There seemed to be a lot of people celebrating birthday parties here...all of the tables on the main level and downstairs make it good for groups.  It's dark and has a nice speakeasy vibe but I think it has gone downhill from the previous reviews I read.  I didn't even taste any alcohol in my drink - hopefully I'm not developing a problem!

Conveniently located, Flatiron Lounge's mixologists whip up delicious drinks off the menu and often add a twist of personalization based on taste preferences/ special requests. There is nothing spectacular about the loungy comfortable ambiance with dim lighting and upbeat music, but the premium price reflects the high quality of  drinks. While the selection is not as eclectic or creative as that of Death & Co. or Breslin Bar at the Ace Hotel, there is a certain comfort in this ever reliable neighborhood style speak easy lounge. This venue is perfect to grab intimate drinks with a friend or a date on a weeknight (though probably not a first date). Avoid weekends as the lounge gets overtly crowded with large parties, killing the intimate sit down feel of the lounge.

Flatiron Lounge probably doesn't qualify for your big night out or that very special date, but it is perfect to unwind over a drink with a friend on any given evening of the week.

This is one of my favorite places to go in the city.  They have a dazzling array of cocktails which the mixologists whip up for you with a gusto.  (don't even dare to call them bartenders)

It can be pricey but the drinks are strong and delicious.

Tip: Just like most popular bars/clubs in the city, I NEVER go on weekends.  It gets really crowded and can put a damper your experience.

I have yet to figure out why so many seem to love or rave about the Flatiron Lounge.. I've only recently gone for the first time, perhaps about 6 months ago, and found my experience mediocre at best.

The service was slow, the drinks not particularly tasty, and the ambiance very similar to that of Flute also nearby, in Gramercy.

All and all an ok experience, and a nice neighborhood lounge to go to when you feel like enjoying a nice cocktail on a relaxing evening.. before or after your dinner plans.

This place feels very New York. Too pretentious, too cramped and too damned expensive.

Note to all the bros out there looking for a guys night out: this is 100% a date spot.

Having got that rant off my chest, this place is a decent spot for a date. The wait staff is attentive and the volume level is in check. Just be prepared to break the bank!

Cozy, sexy atmosphere.  Classy (despite the fact that we saw a LOT of people dry-humping in the entry area throughout the course of the night.)  Nice jazz music.  I also loved the trail mix that they put out on the tables.  Spicy.

Unfortunately, that's about where the good stuff ends.  Our table was somewhat awkward so we had to lean in unnatural ways in order to hear each other.  The menu was not very unique.  More importantly, our server was impatient that we hadn't decided on an order yet.  Then when I asked for suggestions, I could tell she was clearly not knowledgable about the cocktails they had available.  She suggested one that came out tasting horrible so I ended up just getting over-priced mixed drinks for the rest of the night.

I will say though that when we went up to the bar, the bartender was very friendly and helpful.

Was here back in October on a Saturday night but just remembered I never reviewed it.

Dim lighting, sexy, Gatsby-like feel. Drinks were amazing. We came in after 2:30 I believe and it wasn't too packed at all. (Which was kind of surprising, but I liked it that way. Could actually have a conversation.)

I will be back for sure.

This place was so stuffy and pretentious. Had one drink which was the 1920's and bounced. It was just okay, nothing spectacular. Strong though...

The decor was nice but what turned us off was when we asked our waiter for a change for $10 he said no one in the whole place had a change for $10 because "it was such a big bill"

GTFOH with that BS - I'll never return nor recommend this place to anyone unless they want to be in a place where they had to whisper with some stuffy, fartsy people.

    whatever

I'm specifically talking to y'all about Flatiron Lounge happy hour.  It ends at 6pm on weekdays.  Early, yes, it is.  BUT - it's quite worth it for you to find a way to head out of the office at around 4:15 to be able to pack in at least 3 or 4 happy hour cocktails.

Oh yes, the cocktails.  They're perfect.  A few dollars off of their regular price (which is $13), making them an outstanding deal.  The happy hour menu has a handful of regular menu cocktails, beer and wine.

Our favorite happy hour cocktail was the Amante Picante - a take on the classic margarita, but with a bit more purity (no nasty sour mix) and a kick of spice that will make your throat sing.

Great service, great atmosphere.  A great place to have small birthday get together (they've got great round booths for 5-6 people).  Comfy, great for catching up with friends.  Great jazz on the speakers.

I'll be coming back again and again.  **Oh, and the waitstaff will allow you to stack your cocktail orders when the clock is getting close to six.

Came here with some friends after dinner at Gramercy Tavern last Saturday night. We were a bit more dressed up than usual, but were still our typical rowdy selves (aka we were NOT looking for a stuffy cocktail joint). Flatiron Lounge was just what the doctor ordered - where class meets stiff drinks. Friendly coat check girls at the front were a plus, as were the quick bar tenders. The scene is perfect for a fun Saturday night out - lively and boisterous without being sloppy drunk.

Chill enough to grab a drink with the guys, yet refined enough to invite the girls along as well, Flatiron Lounge is a great place to stop for a few drinks when going out in this neighborhood.

    ***3.5***

The last time I was here, I don't remember it being quite as loud. Last night, I was yelling across the wee table to my date while he made confused faces and "huh?'s" at me.

Despite the feeling that we were both going deaf, I have to say that the Flatiron Lounge is a great spot to grab a quick drink. The cocktail menu has something for everyone - whether you like your drinks full of fruit and color or just a pleasing mix of restraint. I had the Southern Gentleman and he had the Bellweather -  I was fruit and sweet, sweet bourbon, while he was cool as a cucumber with a hint of peaty smoke.

The decor is very cool, the servers are really pleasant and the cocktails tasty. Just remember to clean your ears before you come here.

Love this lounge. It was rather loud on a Saturday night. Good thing we made a reservation because it was packed, esp the bar.
We were seated at a table near the bar and everyone started putting their arms on the handrails next to our table. I saw all sorts of arms resting on the hand rails. I saw one very hairy arm, looked up and almost screamed when I realized that it belonged to a woman instead of a chimpanzee. Oh the horror.
The only reason I didn't scream was because I was drinking my Velvet Breeze, a wonderful vodka-based cocktail  with grapefruit and lime, which helped calm my nerves.
My friend had the Beijing Mule which came with an orchid. Our waitress kept coming back to ask us if we wanted seconds. Calm down, lady.
The cocktails were delicious, can't wait to come back.

The drinks here are amazing. Unique and well mixed. The bartenders are a bit stuffy but they make good drinks so they are forgiven.

It can get very full and very loud... not ideal for first dates, intimate conversations, etc... unless you get there early.

Jalapeno margaritas, St. Germain & cucumber, jasmine vodka with ginger syrup and pomegranate molasses.

    Highly recommend!

Came here for drinks late at night with a few friends while visiting New York.

It's your standard swanky lounge -- something you'd find here in Hollywood or Downtown Los Angeles.

The bartenders make most of their drinks from scratch, which adds an element of creativity to the place. The mixed drinks looked solid, though my scotch was a pretty weak pour.

If you're in the area, give it a shot.

A very solid lounge. It's next to several other restaurants and bars inthe flatiron area, so there is a healthy buzz in the periphery.
It's one of the darker lounges I've been to. Good ambiance overall. It's chic, but not pretentious.

As other yelpers have said, the wine/cocktail/beer list is sure to offer everyone something. Best yet, their menu changes and NOT every cocktail can be found on their website ;)

my bartener that day is very friendly. He strikes a conversation with you very easily without being overly intruding. Hope I had his name down!

If you're in the mood for a dark, cozy, retro bar, Flatiron Lounge is the place. It's so cool, it feels as if you're in a movie and Bogie might show up at any moment. No windos, low lighting, and a very chill vibe make this one of my favorite bars ever.

The drinks are great, too. They have great happy hour cocktails for $9, which you really can't beat in this part of town. The bartenders all know exactly what they're doing, and are friendly without being intrusive and leave you alone once they've served you your drinks.

There's something for everyone on the menu, and of course the bar is fully stocked so you can order whatever you want. Seating is limited, but the long hallway that leads into the lounge area has a small shelf to rest drinks on and fosters a little mingling.

Just had a miserable experience at Flatiron Lounge on a Saturday night around 10:30pm.

Our party of 7 was seated in the downstairs area and the waitress there just struggled to keep up.  From the point of ordering to when we actually received drinks, it must have been a good 40 min.  Normally, 20 min would be cause for leaving and finding somewhere more accommodating, but they had instituted a hostage situation by asking for a credit card as a hold.  I should have known we were in for a rough night after that demand.

I'm not going to blame the waitress - she was clearly overwhelmed by having to single handedly cover a packed basement, but the management does not escape my ire.

There are too many great places in the city with fantastic service to waste time here.

I really enjoyed having after work drinks here.  At about 5:30 on a Friday, it was half full so tables were easily accessible.  It filled up very quickly but it never got too boisterous.  My one major plaint is the tables are so crammed that I basically had to put my purse on my lap because it would not fit under the table without blocking the path of the waitress/other customers.  I liked the dim lighting and plush chairs.  Overall, the place has a nice atmosphere.

The drinks were decent, albeit not super innovative.  The happy hour deal is pretty nice at $10/cocktail, though the choices are pretty limited.

The Flatiron Lounge is definitely a nice option for those looking to relax and be able to hear the other people in your party (unlike a lot of places in the area).

AMAZING service. got a table around 830pm on a Friday night, no less. We had a few pre-dinner cocktails. Recommend the After Glow for you gin lovers (Gin, Absinthe, Amaro, Ginger, Lemon, Orange and Nutmeg) to kick things off... super refreshing, and delectable. I also had the Holy Water (Gin, Lemon, Watermelon Syrup, and Herbsaint Rinse)... which was a bit too girly for me (pink drink, lol)... but actually wasn't bad at all. Stuck with After Glow moving forward.

Our server, Danielle, was super, super nice. We left for dinner but made a reservation for later that night. When we returned (around 1130pm), they put us in the booth (privacy was awesome). We had several rounds (after glow, holy water, and a forgettable cucumber based gin cocktail). When it was time to leave, they told us that the house had bought us a round of drinks for being great customers :) :) What a way to seal this place as 'must return to' bar in Manhattan. My favourite thus far.

It's just impossible to have a bad drink and a bad time here. Really! That's why I had to come back twice in the same weekend - and it's rare I do that when I'm traveling and exploring.

My first encounter involved bar seats for two and front-row access to bar chef Jared making art (err, cocktails) and good conversation. Flatiron was our last stop of the evening, and Jared made each lovely cocktail count. We tried the Pimm's Cup (flawless), Siegert's Swizzle (rich and decadent) and closed with a shared heavy-on-the-brandy milk punch which we dubbed the 'Night Night' cocktail. De-freakin-licious! Besides the crafty cocktails, Flatiron delivers loads of 'easy' atmosphere (read: zero pretentiousness), replete with jazz standards and ultra-dim illumination. Yes - everyone looks their best in this room.

A couple of nights later, we were seeking a spot to kill some time before meeting up with friends and we both sheepishly suggested the Flatiron, in simultaneous fashion. Some say a jinx is a curse and others use it to refer to the old childhood game - in our case, we were just that excited to get another visit with our new favorite bar. An excellent Dark and Stormy was had and an hour passed way too quickly.

Though I've been twice now, will I return again? You can bet on your bottom dollar, and then buy me a drink (which, by the way, are $13 each. Either you'll fork over the funds and enjoy as that's a standard price for a well-made cocktail in Manhattan... or, you won't).

    ** 3.5 stars **

One of the early craft cocktail lounges in NYC, where Julie Reiner of Pegu Club and Clover Club handled the libations, and to this day still an oasis in the Flatiron/Union Square area.

Flatiron Lounge is undeniably flamboyant, flaunting an Art Deco style that is seldom seen these days, much less at cocktail lounges.  Through the brightly lit tunnel-like entrance (is this a ride?) is the glamorous lounge, long long bar on one side and glossy red booths on the other, backed by a glittering blue, mirrored mosaic wall.  It is comfortable to have a drink here.

The extensive menu divides cocktails by spirit, and also offers a cocktail flight.  The flight was appealing but with our group of 8 (and 8 cocktails), a flight was hardly needed.  Cocktail tasting ensued and after all the merry sharing, I was pleased to conclude that the drinks at Flatiron Lounge were solid and well-made.  The caliber varied, with some being delightful and others unremarkable, but overall good and priced just fine for the area and quality.

The cocktails at Flatiron Lounge are a good step down from those at Pegu and Clover Club, and other top-tier places; if it were located in the vicinity of those (i.e., below 14th Street), I'd be unlikely to go.  But it is a most welcome sight in the Flatiron area, which mostly lacks high quality cocktail lounges.
