I would not recommend this restaurant for the following reasons: Â We made reservations 2 weeks in advance (and re-confirmed) to make sure the restaurant would be able to accommodate our party size of 11 people (not an unusually large party for a pizza establishment). Â The staff was so disorganized. Â Several times during our meal, we had to get up and go find our waitress to ask for drinks, to place our order and to have plates removed (which we cleared some of the dishes ourselves). Â We asked for water at least 5 times, which for some reason she refused to bring to us. Â We finally asked another waitress for water; who promptly brought 2 small pitchers - but not enough for the size of our party. Â At the end of this disastrous meal, we begged for our bill. Â While we waited (again), we noticed our waitress was off chatting with her friends at another table and eating. Â We decided to approach the manager to tell her we weren't paying the full 18% tip charged to large parties (but please note I was still going to give her a portion of the tip even though she didn't deserve it). Â She grabbed the bill from my hand to make an adjustment and slammed the bill back down on the counter and walked away.
Review Source:One year later and we are bona fide regulars of Flo & Santos. I've even brought my Polish-born mother in a few times and she completely verifies the authenticity of the pierogis. Meanwhile, as a neighborhood spot, it can't be beat- we bring out-of-town friends and family to dine with us at this little extension of our home and when we don't feel like cooking for ourselves, their delicious thin crust is right down the block. I also love the revolving list of specials, the panzanella salad, the aforementioned pizza, the grilled chicken and of course, the bar. Flo & Santos had a great outdoor area and then this past fall, they expanded upon it as well as their back area. We love coming and enjoying nice weather with our dog. They are super dog friendly, which is much appreciated. The combination of two such staple cuisines (Italian and Polish) of Chicago is sheer genius and I would recommend this place for just about any occasion. The only time I don't really go out in the neighborhood is on Bears game days, for obvious reasons. There is nothing not to like about this true mom and pop spot.
Review Source:Went there tonight, HORRIBLE customer service, here is what happened.
My friend and I went in at 10:48pm for dinner. Sure it was the day of the most recent winter weather day and they were slower than normal, however nowhere does it say that the kitchen closes at 11pm... website says they are open from 1130 am to 11:45 pm for food. With that we are reluctantly greeted by a waitress who immediately, before anything else, tells us that the kitchen is closing in five minutes. Wait it is 10:50 now and your website says you are open till midnight. Reply the website is wrong, kitchen closes at 11pm except Thursday Friday and Saturday they close at 11:30, but here quickly order something before the cooks get pissed off.
Wtf really? Um okay, no drink order while we take a minute to check it the menu. No, the kitchen is closing in a couple minutes so I need to get your food order.
So, I pick the jalapeno waffle fries, my friend says he wanted the (we think it was) the buffalo chicken sandwich and I started to order an Italian beef but was interrupted by the server saying, " you don't want the buffalo chicken sandwich it is not that good, matter of fact I had to send one back tonight. "
At this point we are like screw it we will go some where else, she stood there pressured us to make an order, down talked the kitchen staff, down talked the food and convinced us to go else where. Honestly by the way she was talking I was afraid the cooks were going to tamper with our food because they wanted to leave and we wanted to spend our money at this business!
Probably won't go back at least not for a long while. It's a shame this place was highly recommended by many people.
we went to ihop instead!
We came here after we went to the Chicago auto show, the place was not too bad but the food was terrible, the waitress was not friendly at all, we asked her about the most popular she was not nice recommending at all, we ordered the pirogi which was not as we expected it at all, we ordered a half pizza with Italian beef and the other half margarita it was very fatty and the beef was on the other side of the margarita which is weird but they made a discount for that, any ways I will not come back here again
Review Source:I was very disappointed in this place. I stopped by here excited to try a new place during restaurant week. When I looked at the regular menu, I realized that the restaurant week special was only am dollar of the regular price. And you couldn't use the foursquare check in offer for a free beer. So we decided it was a better deal to actually get what we wanted. What a concept!
We ordered the loaded waffle fries that had blue cheese and jalapeño bacon on it. These were good, but as little too much blue cheese sauce on it. I was expecting solid chunks not a creamy sauce.
We had there Italian beef pizza which I was not a fan if. The sauce was too sweet. It smelled as sweet as BBQ sauce. Not so good with an Italian beef pizza.
We were going to order a dessert, but our waitress was so slow. We just wanted to leave! After wasiting around twenty minutes my boyfriend went up to the bar to ask for our check and we got out of there.
Also, the bathrooms here were gross. That is always unappetizing.
Great spunky South Loop spot!
With the whole Italy/Poland fusion thing, the concept could have easily been lifted far above the quality of the experience, but this place is really all about relaxed vibes, good food, and bringing the neighborhood together around some good pub grub. Big kielbasas, crispy thin crust pizzas, and pierogi are all there to soothe your soul, sometimes all on the same plate.
I quite enjoyed the pizzas. Great thin crust here, with that crisp hot-oven flavor. Even the "Flo's Polish Pizza" was not too different from the other offerings. The pierogi were also great. Got an antipasto salad just to round things out. Full of chunks of salami and not overly dressed, it was enjoyable as everything else.
A cozy space overall, fits right into the neighborhood with all the 'tude and food you could want.
Recent explorations of the South Loop are uncovering some gems. Interesting concept of comfort food in two forms - Polish and Italian. I had the meatball sandwich (I never order something like that - really needed some comforting, I guess) on crusty bread, smothered with a spicy marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. The meatballs themselves were a little bland. Side salad was fine, not iceberg. There is a time and a place for iceberg lettuce and that's at my parents' kitchen table. My husband had the steak sandwich - nice-sized slices of steak, cooked exactly as he ordered, very good.
It's a cozy atmosphere (a little crowded) with exposed brick and ductwork, the South Loop's decor staple, it seems. Back room hosted a kids' party and created problems accessing the restroom. Cute little girls in tutus stumbling around made up for it.
I'll be back in the summer for the patio. And I found a new place to take the parents!
Excuse me, can I borrow a star from somebody to make this 6 stars!
I live in San Antonio, but would almost quit my job and move to Chicago for this place is good. Â Amazing food, great beer selection........that's all I'm going to say, b/c you don't need to know more. Â Oh, well there is the fact that it's a combo of Italian food AND Polish food. Â Yeah.......yum!
Bad food, an overpriced, unreliable beer list and mostly indifferent service is found at Flo and Santos.
The only redeeming qualities of this place is that the interior is modern and spacious. We went there to watch the Bears/Titans game/debacle and I do have to say that there is not a bad seat in the house to watch the game. The people here were in to the game and the energy was palpable. That aspect was enjoyable.
Now the bad parts. We had the Marco's Italian Beef pizza. First off, the pizza was burned like a drunk person put a pizza in the oven, then fell asleep, only to salvage it when the smoke detector went off. The cooks must not know how to make pizza because the entire restaurant was filled with a thin and constant fog of smoke the whole time we were there. I was surprised the smoke alarms didn't go off. The cheese was dark black and so burned that it formed a crust on the top of the pizza. There was barely enough toppings, sauce and cheese to make it each bite complete and enjoyable. The giardiniera was extremely spicy and completely overwhelmed every other flavor. I've honestly had better frozen pizza and this was only the second time in my life that I thought pizza was inedible. This is not hyperbole but a fact.
While it looks moderately impressive, the beer list was very unreliable. Many of the offerings were unavailable. I had to have a back up beer every time I ordered to ensure I can get at least one of them. The other aspect I didn't like about the beer list was that there were no prices. I probably wouldn't have ordered a few beers that were $10 for a 10 oz pour. I think that is such a deceptive and disingenuous business practice. They did have a few good beers, but then again, almost every bar serves good beers nowadays.
The bar tender wasn't mean, but she wasn't very engaging or friendly. It seemed like she had a hangover and acted like she wanted to be anywhere but behind the bar.
Finally, the price was ridiculously high for such mediocrity. Including tip, our bill was $85. For an $18 pizza, I expect excellence like I get at Nomad and Osteria in Philadelphia. The kicker was that later that night, we went to Girl and the Goat and only spent $20 more for one of the best meals I've ever had. Places like this seem to view customers as saps and do their best to extract as much cash as they can from you without making you feel welcome or satisfied. There are so many better places to go to in Chicago, especially for pizza.
Whenever I visit Chicago and stay in this neck of the woods, I always end up eating here 2 days in a row! Â They've expanded the place so it's not so crowded anymore and you can always find a good seat at the bar or a booth with friends. Â
Not really the place to come if you're trying to eat healthy, but the food is so good, it's worth a few more miles at the gym.  There are a few things you have to order (1) Perogies...for a big appetite get the  (2) polish sampler plate, the sausage that comes with it is so large, its comical, almost embarrassing and (3) Pork Wings in Buffalo sauce...so tender the meat actually falls off the bone!
Flo & Santos is AMAZING!
My fiance and I stumbled on this place after another restaurant in the area was closed. Our server was spectacular and gave us several wonderful recommendations.
By her recommendation, we got the Pork Wings. They come in Buffalo, BBQ and Terriyaki. My fiance prefers Buffalo, and I love BBQ, and they were more than happy to mix and match. The Pork Wings are absolutely delicious. The meat is incredibly tender, falls off the bone, and is full of that porky goodness. It seems that every menu these days is bacon-wrapped this or pork belly that, and while I love both of those things, it is incredibly refreshing to have a unique (and still delicious) take on pork.
Flo & Santos is a hybrid of a Polish and Italian food, and nowhere is that more evident than in the Ravirogi, a blend of Ravioli and Pierogi. It's good enough that my fiance has yet to let me try a bite.
My personal favorite is the Grilled Chicken Ciabatta. It is in the running for my favorite grilled chicken sandwich of all time. The chicken is marinated and grilled to perfection and carries the sandwich. When you take a bite of the little bit of chicken breast hanging over the edge of the bun, you immediately know that you're in for a very good time. Then when you take a full bite and you get the full flavor of the red pepper, the pesto mayo and the provolone cheese with the chicken and the ciabatta, it's almost divine. My mouth is watering just thinking about it
Flo & Santos is a wonderful restaurant, and I recommend it to anyone. It has a great, relaxed atmosphere, delicious food, and a great beer list.
When searching for new pizza places in Chicago, I stumbled across Flo & Santos... a pizza place that specializes in Thin Crust pizza rather than the traditional deep dish. Â They offer so many specialty creations that remind you of random food items from buffalo chicken sandwiches to the italian beef classic. Â Overall, the pizza is incredible. Â They thin crust crisps up nice on the edges, but unfortunately remains too soggy in the middle. Â The toppings are out of this world and the atmosphere seems fun, especially during football games. Â The one downfall of the restaurant and the REASON for not getting a perfect rating is the cost. Â The prices are real expensive. Â You pay more for the thin crust and you are not as full as if you were eating the infamous deep dish pizza. Â I would come back to try specialty creations, but the price may scare me away for a while.
Review Source:I went to this restaurant to avoid a crazy Red Line commute back home after a Bears game. Â It was pretty close to Soldier Field, and I was in the mood for pizza, so I gave this spot a shot. Â It is a huge space, and it was full of energy and people, but not crazy packed. Â We ended up at the last booth in the back of the restaurant which was just fine with me, and we had access to a few televisions playing more games. Â The service was good, with both our waitress and a bus/water server giving us plenty of attention. Â We ordered an appetizer which came out after our thin crust pizza, but it was warm and so it wasn't a problem. Â The pizza was, as I mentioned thin, and so the large size was about right for 2 hungry people (as in, we ate it all). Â The waffle fries with bacon, bleu cheese, and scallions was very good. Â They have a decent beer list, and if ever I'm in the area again...I'll be looking to hit this place up again.
Review Source:I'd actually go 3.5 stars on this, but I'll round up. Â
Stopped in after a Bears after avoiding paying outrageous stadium prices and getting on an overcrowded red line train. Â Pizza was decent, crust not quite as crispy as I'd like, but toppings were well applied. Â Waffle fries were crispy and flavorful with blue cheese and bacon. Â Beer list was decent. Â I liked the selection of polish liquors, but didn't try any. Â The space itself was huge, with a lively front area and a cavernous back area. Â The back area where we sat was unfortunately quite chilly due to the sparse population and high-spinning fans.
If I lived in the neighborhood I could see hanging out to watch sports and eat pizza; as it is I'm glad it was there for me when we so desperately needed it.
So I have walked pass this joint hundreds of times...never thought to pop in. My BFF went bananas talking about the pizza so on my cheat day, I paid it a visit and ummm.....WTF have I been on!? The pizza was crazy insane NY style good! Drinks yummy, service great, patrons cute & fun! LOVE this lil neighborhood gem! Grateful they don't offer delivery or I would be seriously f*cked! Yum yum yummy place! OH...almost forgot....took a bite of a sandwich (fun patron I mentioned earlier...and I took 1st bite...lmao) and it too was scrumptious!
Review Source:To me, F&S defines Chicago: friendly people, good comfort food, sports on big tv screens, beer, beer, and...more beer.
Do me one big favor and get their WAFFLE FRIES. It is THE best waffle fries I've ever even in my life. I would fly all the way back to Chicago just to taste them again. It's that good. I got the one with melted cheddar, applewood smoked bacon, and scallions. The cheddar was indeed melted -- and no, none of that stringy gross nacho cheese that hardens after 5 mins and becomes all gooey. It's legitly melted and spreads wonderfully among all the waffle fries. And the fries are perfectly made -- it doesn't get soft and soggy under all the toppings. Eat them hot, and eat them fast!
Honorable Mention: Marco's Italian Beef Pizza (shaved beef, giardiniera, caramelized onion, fire roasted tomato)
After eating Chicago's famous deep dish pizza, it's nice to know that Chicago makes bomb-diggity thin crust pizza too! The pizzas are HUGE - mind you, a 12" "medium" that serves 1-2 really serves 2-3 people. They cut the pizza in squares, which is kind of cool. I think the toppings were fresh, but I really liked how the pizza was crispy and very thin!
Top it off with a beer, and a game on TV and you're all set: say hellllooo to some Chicago hospitality.
Ambiance: Pretty standard bar scene with simple tables, dark wooden everything, some flat screens with sports, and friendly staff. No complaints at all in this department.
Food: Started with the vege hummus plate which was pretty decent, you get celery, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers and grilled pita with a little chunky hummus. Wasn't my favorite as smokey pita and gritty hummus aren't my thing. The perogies were much better with the kraut and mushroom ones being by far the best and most flavorful. The beef and potato ones were just simple and uninspiring but what you would expect from a simple east european fried dumpling. The steak burger was good, my patty was cooked like I ordered and not too dry. The pretzel bun was an interesting touch to make it unique, not too heavy and doughy to weigh it down and had a more friable texture than I would expect in a bun. The cross-cut fries were fried to perfection but unseasoned so I made use of some table salt and ketchup to dress them up. The panzanella salad was dressed (slightly zealously) with a semi-sweet tangy balsamic which was tasty with pieces of tomato, French bread, onions, and artichoke hearts - a great side salad to my meal.
Overall this place was solid and they try to make little twists in their dishes to stand out from the slew of pub eateries in the area. Service is solid and the beer menu seemed varied. I can't say I'd ever crave anything from the menu I had tonight but would look forward to coming back to hang out and try the pork wings or one of the delicious looking pizzas.
This was a great spot to hit up on a Sunday afternoon. Â I went with a group of 5 so we shared 2 large pizzas and one order of buffalo chicken wings. Â The pizza was excellent- thin crust and crispy. Â It was less crispy in the middle but nevertheless cheesy and delicious. Â The pepperoni was thick. Â The chicken wings were great also.
Our waitress was nice but after she gave us the food she disappeared for awhile so I waited about 10 minutes for a drink refill. Â That's my only complaint! Â Will definitely be coming back here. Â Overall very delicious.
The Italians and Polish have joined forces at pizza/pierogi hut Flo & Santos.
I have tried to eat here a couple of times but it has been too crowded. However, I believe they  just underwent some construction which expanded their digs and we were sat right away on Saturday night. Woot!
Posted up at the bar (our choice). Bartender was a little disinterested in us, but that's okay. They have Triple Karmeliet which is the best beer on the planet and pairs well with everything on their menu (burgers, wings, salads, pizza).
Enjoyed a chopped salad for 2 -- it was delicious and could have probably fed 4, FYI. Also ordered a medium (serves 2) pepperoni pizza. I was surprised they don't offer pan pizza, as "pans" are what they keep their utensils and condiments in on the tables. In all, it wasn't my favorite pizza: they need to spread out the PP more instead of dropping down stacks 6 pieces high. They also need to serve the pie with a spatula or something because it's pretty impossible to transport a gooey, stringy piping hot piece of pizza with just a salad fork or your fingers.
Have heard amazing things about their s'mores dessert pizza, but just didn't have room for it. Also, people rave about the hot duck wings. Gonna have to try those next time, as well as their pierogis.
Might be a cool place to catch a game on TV, btw. They also have a foursquare special if you're into that -- gets you a free 8 oz beer.
Hello Hidden Gem! Â Why didn't I know about you when I lived in the West loop. Â You would have been so close to me!
A friend and I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, hoping it would not be too crowded. Â We were greeted by a friendly waitress as soon as we stepped in the door and were told it would be about a 15 min wait for a table. Â No problem. Â We waited by the door where there were stools and a little bar area. Â It was probably only about 10 minutes until we were seated in a booth. Â While the place was small, it wasn't over packed. Â They had football on but only the people at the bar seemed to pay attention to it. Â
My companion had a fairly rare beer that he loved. Â I had their drink special for the night... pumpkin martini. Â That's right! Â I said it, Pumpkin Martini! Â It was thanksgiving in a glass! Â And at $6 a pop, I had a little more than I should have! Â Of course we had to have food right away. Â And right on the door it tells you what to get. Pizza & Pierogi!
For an appetizer we had the Pierogi and the waffle fries. Â If you know ANYTHING about me, you know that I'm a sucker for a waffle fries. Â Just call them my Kryptonite. Â You want me to do something for you, bring me waffle fries and it's done. Â You want me to stop doing something, flash some waffle fries in my face... Â Waffle fries rank right up there with Chocolate in my book. Â So when we got waffle fries with cheese and bacon on them, I was in heaven! Â Hot, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, not completely drowned in cheese... Mmmmm!!! Â The Pierogi were good as well. It was a good thing they came first otherwise I would never have had them because I would have been too busy stuffing my face with waffle fries. Â I was a big fan of the potato & cheese and the sauerkraut & mushrooms. Â They were moist, tasty, flavorful and perfectly cooked. Â I didn't care for the beef ones that much because they seemed dry to me, but what do I know about pierogis... my mom's asian! Â
For the pizza we debated about a couple options. Â They have a special of the day, and a sort of farmer's market special. Â They both looked good but they were all veggies that day. Â I wanted some MEAT. Â So off to the extreme... Â Italian Beef Pizza. Â I mean, I like Italian beef. I like Pizza. Â Why not combine the two? Â Well, Flo & Santos did and it was good! Â Crispy thin crust and melty cheese on top. Â The giardiniera gave it some nice spice and the caramelized onions gave it some sweetness. Â Yum yum! Â
This turned out to be a pretty good Sunday... Â I will be back for some waffle fries soon!
I stopped here with a couple of friends on the way to a show at Northerly Island. When I walked in, there was no host stand to speak of. The tables were all full, except for a couple that were "reserved." I stood awkwardly for several minutes. More people drifted in. We stood awkwardly as a group. We flagged a bus boy who said that the hostess would be with us. We resumed awkward standing position. Finally a hostess appeared and started taking names. I wish I could say that she gave us a warm welcome.
Fortunately, there were tables open on the patio, which were first-come-first serve. So we snag a table, now a little pressed for time. The beer list was adequate. We skipped appetizers and just ordered a pizza to share. It was their special market pizza described to us as chicken, tomatoes, garlic olive oil. Sounded tasty. Turned out that wasn't the market pizza on the menu that night and we were twice brought a pizza that was not what we ordered.
Finally (and now we're more pressed for time), we get the pizza we ordered. And it was tasty. A manager came by and apologized for the mix up. Our bill (which we got after first getting someone else's bill) was reasonable.
So I would order take out from here or sit at the bar. Not sure I'd try to come back here again on a Friday evening... But I do want to give this place another shot.
My husband and I love Flo and Santos. Â Their pizza is awesome, but the Ravarogi is to die for! Â A mix of Polish and Italian, what could be better?
Every day of the week they have specials and our favorite day to go is definitely Friday. Â Half priced bottle wine night. Â Granted it is their house wine, it is still delicious and very reasonably priced.
Mark is an awesome chef and he even takes the time to come around to tables making sure everyone is happy and enjoying their meals. Â
The South Loop needs more awesome places like Flo!
Service was a little slow for a lunch hour, however the food was great. Â I can't judge on too much - we only had pizza, but my goodness its officially the best in the South Loop!
And they have great beer and wine specials every day.
I want to come  back and try some of the Polish specialities, too!
Friendly, neighborhood atmosphere. It was a beautiful day outside, and the street side tables were full, so we ate inside. It was very pleasant...sports on TV, music, but not too loud. We ordered the pierogi plate and they were absolutely delicious. An Italian beer (Moretti), and my companion had a Bloody Mary with a Miller High Life chaser. So far, so good. Then our pizza came, and WOW, the Italian Beef pizza was simply amazing. Along with the beef there were roasted tomatoes, caramelized onions and homemade giardineria. Holy Cow! It was genuinely delicious!
I will definitely come back, especially since I'll be moving to the SLoop this Fall.
As a resident of the South Loop I have made this quaint little restaurant/bar my neighborhood "go to" place. Â They have a great beer list, delicious pizza, and good food I wouldnt call your average fried "bar food". Â
Im pleased to hear rumors that they are expanding and maybe even adding to the outdoor space.
Yeah Flo!
This place brings the hot hot heat. Â Delicious pizza, good selection of beer, and lots of interesting things on the menu. Â I like the Polish theme as it is never a bad time for a pierogi. Â They also have lots of specialty pizzas such as my favorite the italian beef pizza with great giardinera on top. Â In fact, I even saw a bus load of people roll on in here on a "Chicago pizza tour" sit down to pound down some deluxe pizzas. Â Apparently word has gotten around.
I brought my dad to the Purple Pig, then this place. Â He ragged on the Pig and insisted on coming here every time he visited me. Â We get the same pizza and pierogis ever time and we walk away happy. Â
Busy for a reason, but worth the wait.
We had the Grace's special, buffalo wings and waffle fries. The pizza is super thin, crunchy with just the right amount of sauce. Seasoned just right. Our waitress walked by with a burger on a pretzel roll that looked and smelled amazing. I will try that next time.
My friend tried the cucumber lemonade drunk and that was good too. Me?... I'm a Stella Artois girl.
I don't get the hype.
Fyi, It's about a 30 minute walk from the convention center.
I had the Italian beef sandwich with waffle fries. The fries were very good. The Italian beef sandwich was a letdown. The "sweet" peppers weren't sweet and were flavorless. The beef was OK, but nothing to rave about. The bread was meh.
The chef? (cook) looked a mess. His chef jacket/coat looked pretty nasty. A word of advice. If you're going to go through  the effort of wearing a chef coat, make sure it's clean. Otherwise you look like Chef Greasy Spoon. Not a look that inspires a healthy/happy feeling for your customers.
I don't think they deserve the current 4 star Yelp rating.
Some foods just go together. Cake and ice cream. Spaghetti and meatballs. Pizza and pierogi.
No?
Somehow, Flo & Santos makes it work. It's an upscale neighborhood bar kind of place, leaning toward sports bar but not aggressively so. They have a good selection of beers on tap, with a few open spots for seasonal specials. Even more in the bottle, including -- not surprisingly -- a number of Polish beers. They also have vodka flights, so how can you lose?
The pizza is old style Chicago pizza, which is to say thin crust cut in squares. I know this drives some people crazy, but I like it. True to the hybrid nature of the spot, they serve a Polish pizza, with kielbasa, sauerkraut, and bacon. Sounds crazy, but it was very tasty. A little greasy, so you might want to knife-and-fork it to avoid losing toppings. Excellent veggie pizza, and for a carnivore like me to say that, it's something.
A lot of the menu is standard bar food -- onion rings, wings, burgers, Italian beef. Pierogis, of course, and a combo sandwich made with Italian beef and Polish sausage, instead of the standard Italian sausage. Nice.
F&S is in the hoppin' South Loop, and if you're down that way, it's a nice place for dinner. I wouldn't make it a destination.
When you talk about pizza places in Chicago - Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, even Brick's may come to mind before Flo & Santos ... but let me tell you what, Flo & Santos can hang with the best of them in Chicago. No it doesn't have deep dish, but any of their thin crust pizza's are worth getting and would go toe to toe with the big name Chicago pizza places.
The other menu items are very good too ... they mix it up with a variety of daily specials. Very Casual restaurant & bar ... great atmosphere to hang out & watch a game at the bar or come in with your family.
The staff here is really friendly ... I've been in here a handful of times and never had bad service or bad experience.
If i lived in the south loop i'd single handedly keep this place going. Not that it needs my help.
Get the Buffalo Chicken pizza - Pat H's favorite.
Every neighborhood needs a place like Flo & Santos: friendly, down to earth, consistently solid food, and drinks that aren't going to break the bank.
The mark of a great neighborhood spot is the feeling of being a regular even after just a couple of visits. Didn't even have to give the bartender my drink order last time I was here (probably my 3rd or 4th time): a bourbon & diet was already sitting on the bar in front of me. On to the food. I'm not much of a pizza eater, but when I cheat I tend to do it here. I don't think you could call it thin crust per se, but definitely on the thinner end of the spectrum with a delicious flaky crust and not too heavy on the sauce. Believe the hype about the waffle fries. And have I mentioned yet that I love the bartenders? On a particularly rough Monday, I didn't even have to explain twice that I needed an incognito bloody mary during a lunch with co-workers: it was out in the same red water cup as everyone else in minutes.
Unlike way too many places in this city and several notable perpetrators in the South Loop alone (Scout I'm looking at you) props to F&S for putting substance over style.
The cheddar and bacon waffle fries here are effing ridiculous, but last time we got these they were a little skimpy on the cheese and the bacon. Be sure to ask for extra toppings and get these for sure!!
The first time I came here my husband and I got the pizza. We requested our own ingredients. Not impressed. It was greasy and kinda bland. Second time I came here... much better (we did not order the pizza)!!
The girls and I split an order of the pierogies and the cheddar fries. Â We each ordered our own entrees and I loved my "ravirogi" dish- a buncha beef filled pieorgies in a bacon vodka sauce, YUM!! Only complaint about this dish was that they were really skimpy on the sauce... this sauce really makes the dish! Â I also got to sample the kielbasa, and that we really tasty as well. I'll definitely have to get that the next time I go back, as well as the burger, which I heard was really good too.
It's a total laid-back atmosphere with reasonable prices, a buncha sports filled screens, and plenty of different kinds of bar food. Â One of my favorite places in the South Loop.
This is my "go to" spot in the south loop. Â The pizza is fantastic, it has a good beer selection, and it is reasonably priced. Â The ambiance is casual and it is a good place to watch a game. Â While they don't play the sound over the speakers (except for Bears games), they have plenty of TVs and an HD projector screen over the bar. Â
Going back to the pizza, it is very good. Â From their specialty pizzas to just plain old pepperoni it is hard to go wrong ordering up a pie. Â I think this is what they do best. Â The other food is good as well and you won't be disappointed, but it is hard to beat the pizza.
Lastly, unlike a lot of bars in the south loop, Flo and Santos has good drinks specials that rotate daily. Â This is a nice touch that a lot of places in the area lack. Â
I really enjoy this place and recommend it if you are looking for casual dining and a place to have a few cold ones and relax.
Had to wait a bit but it was worth it!
The good: not a bad seat in the place. Every seat can see the tv's in the room. The hostess and the server were great and very helpful. The hostess actually brought me a beer while we waited!!! (hence the 5 star review).
The food was awesome. I know everybody lives fries but get one of their great sandwiches with their side salad with the balsamic vinegar... It was great. Me and my lady got the Italian beef and the meatball to share on a cold Chicago evening. They were really good!
I'll be back. I need to try their pizza.
A couple thoughts:
The booths are great but man it really limits their seating in the evenings. Getting rid of those booths and playing with the seating configuration could pack in a lot more people!! Competition is picking up on the block with scout and the new gastro joint opening up across the street.
