The location is amazing, and to have drinks or dine on the patio would be make for a wonderful summer night out. Â We plan to go back sometime and sit outside by the heaters or near the fireplaces along the river. Â Â Inside it is definitely an older clientele, quieter, a bit pretentious/snobby with a few waiters with overinflated egos. Â
We were there on a Sunday or Monday night for drinks and dessert with family. Â There was barely 10 people in the restaurant, we were not dressed up but we weren't wearing sweats either. Â We chose the restaurant because I had read that they were voted the BEST in Chicago for Banana Cream Pie, and my dad was with us and that's one of his favorites.
I ordered a "hot toddy" off the menu, which is by far the most disgusting choice I have made in a long, long time. Â Gross. Â Undrinkable. Â My bad. Â
The banana cream pie lived up to its reputation, and we also tried a bread pudding that was served very uniquely, in delicious sticks, with three unique dipping sauces. Â
It is white linen with professional waitstaff and I would say it is pretty expensive. Â The hostess was adorable though and super friendly. Â She looked like Ana Faris from Scary Movie. Â Too bad she was the only friendly one.
I went here for lunch around 2 pm on a weekday - and was in for a bit of sticker shock. Â Â I could fill up my van with gas for the price of a steak. Â I elected to get an order of fish and chips and was pleasantly surprised. Â The soup was a lobster bisque that day and it was very tasty. Â The fish was cooked to perfection, and the chips (fries) weren't burnt. Â The tartar sauce was good, and it didn't have a chemical burning / after-taste to it. Â If I had to meet a client downtown, this would a safe location if I knew the client was a carnivore.
