Informal pizza joint with baked pasta dishes and entrees that won't turn us into repeat customers
We really wanted to like this place and find a new option for homestyle Italian food in the area. Â Unfortunately I can't say I'll be putting this on our "Italian restaurant rotation" We did not order pizza so I can't comment on that. Â Dined in recently and while we didn't expect much, the experience and food left a lot to be desired.
Menus are paper and that's fine except only one was on the table. Â Then, even though they were plentiful and mass printed, the waitstaff asked 3/4 through the meal if they could have it back to put back in the take out bin. Not a big deal, just odd. Â The service came from a combination of the person manning the cash register and a waiter.
The salad was basic as were the garlic rolls. Â That's fine, we weren't expecting gourmet. Â
The baked pasta dish was not chock full of Italian comfort food elements. Â There was a sprinkling of shredded mozzarella on top to the point you could see the individual, processed mozzarella shavings instead of a nice coating of smooth mozzarella. Â The sauce was not to my taste at all, but sauce preferences are subjective. Â It was not a large serving and a bit overpriced for what it was. Â I was not happy with it at all. Â The other entree was chicken parmigiana and while it was good, it's nothing to run back for.
The absolute worst part of the dining experience there was the fact that they brought out the mop a few times during our meal and it reeking of foul smelling chemicals. Â Made me gag and want to leave the restaurant. Â We almost asked them not to bring it out. Â I could understand if there was a spill, but for routine cleaning after a group leaves, I would think they could find another way to clean the area or perhaps change the solution. Â It was putrid smelling. Â On one hand I was glad to see they were cleaning but it is really strong and off-putting. Â I will never dine in there again for that reason alone.
A coupon helped to soften the average experience but I don't think I would order entrees from there again. Â There are established pizza options in the area that I prefer so I can't see myself going there for pizza. Â All in all, I was willing to give it a try and was really hoping to like it, but there were too many hiccups to consider ordering from there again.
In sum, it is a pizza joint that has a varied menu. Â Italian food is subjective and I am a bit picky when it comes to Italian food. Â Having said that, it doesn't have to be fancy rather just good, southern Italian pizza/pasta. Â So, if their cuisine is your taste then it's likely a good fit. Â However, even setting my expectations to a very-casual-pizza-joint-level, the food just didn't work for me and the floor mopping using a heavy chemical solution while we were eating was awful (to us). Â Just one person's opinion.
I'm still yet to find a pizza that can top Mario the Baker, but this was still pretty good. We ordered "to go". We had the baked ravioli with garlic bread and pasta fagioli soup, cheese pizza (with mushrooms on a small section of it - yum, they used fresh mushrooms), and the fire house burger with French fries. The ravioli was delicious - I'm picky about my baked pasta dishes and I enjoyed this a lot. The soup was okay - a little bland but people have different seasoning/salt preferences so that's understandable. The pizza was good - not better than Mario's, but wayyyy better than others - next time I will try the margherita pizza, as I really enjoy fresh mozzarella. The burger was quite good. My two complaints are that we ordered it well and it was cooked medium so we had to put that in the oven at home - my boyfriend doesn't care for medium burgers though I enjoy them that way. I could tell the fries were great too - but by the time we got home they weren't hot anymore, but definitely really good. We're really picky eaters - the place was very clean and the staff was polite. We will definitely eat/order from there again. I do wish they delivered though :(
Review Source:I have to recommend the Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza !!! I had tried it from a friend who brought it over one time. After that I was hooked it has mozzarella and cheddar cheese with hamburger meat I believe sirloin with bacon crumbles. After they cook it the pizza they put lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles on top. The Service has been good the few times I have been there and the restaurant is clean. Overall a good experience. I have yet to try anything else because the pizza is so unique you aren't going to find it let alone anywhere close.
Review Source:I'm a sucker for a local pizza joint, and Gianna's did not disappoint. Really friendly service, and great food.
We started with the cheesy garlic bread, and I'm not sure what they do differently than anyone else, but it was awesome. My husband proclaimed it the best garlic bread he has ever had.
My husband had the meat stromboli, and it was huge. The dough was great, perfectly cooked with just enough meat and cheese. He would definitely order it again.
I had the eggplant rollatini pizza, which is way out of my comfort zone, but I loved it. It had thin, crispy breaded eggplant slices with dollops of ricotta, (and mozzarella of course), and chunks of tomatoes. If you are looking for something unique, this pizza is definitely a win. Â
Overall, they are a great local choice with impressive food.
