It's okay, certainly does not live up to all the hype. Â This is mostly a business lunch crowd and not conducive to friendly conversation.
We came for lunch and the prices were much more reasonable, except for dessert.  Yes, dessert cost MORE than the entrée ~ go figure.
It's a steakhouse so why sooooooooooooooooo much seafood? Â And why are 5 of the 7 soups seafood based? Â I hate fish. Â Today a nice cup of soup would have hit the spot, not at this spot.
I was entertained that I had to use my steak knife to cut the butter and spread it on the bread. Â Overkill.
Our server was attentive (I wish he had told us his name), our food came out quickly, portions are generous, food is served hot.
My summary: Â I would come back for lunch, skip dessert, and not be with people that I don't see often so I would not worry that I could not hear every word they spoke.
Great food and service. Â The best outdoor dining area and bar in the suburbs. Â They do a great job of translating the downtown dining experience into the burbs. Â Great seafood, especially the king crab. Â Great mashed and gravy, and surprisingly killer burgers (the blue star burger is one of the best in town)
Review Source:Went for Valentine's day with hubby because I was craving a steak. To start asked valet about parking they never mention it how valet parking was FREE. So we parked our own car, and walked across the street to the restaurant. We were seated right away, wait staff was awesome. Food not so good the calamari very salty, the sirloin steak very dry over charred, and tasteless. Tasteless double baked potatoes. Too expensive for such tasteless food. My night still was great because I keep a positive attitude, but the food is not worth the price there charging.
Review Source:We went there for a late xmas party and I have to say I was expecting more from Gibsons. It was my first time there and I felt it was just okay. They gave us a great space for our party and I felt the service was very good. The crab salad was great as were the meat and most of the things we order. What I thought was just awful was the side dishes. The mashed potatoes were just the worst I have ever had dry and had not taste and the same for the double baked. The mac and cheese was dry as well almost no cheese . We sent them a list the day before and they didnt have some of the things we wanted and know one called to let us know before we got there. Â Would I go back Im not really sure for the money we spent I think I would try somewhere else. If you are going for a large party make sure you dont bring a company check they wont take it which should have been told to us before we went.
Review Source:Unfriendly valet service. Bar was too loud for any conversations to occur. Lobster bisque had a thick paste consistency. Bone -in ribeye was most excellent. Potatos and sides were humongous, can easily shared by 4 hearty diners. Desserts, besides their abnormal portions, were NOT impressive. Did not want to take leftovers home.
Review Source:W.R. Chicago Cut.
You know what? I seriously felt like this rib-eye was one of the best I've had here in Chicago. I've tried Mortons, Joe's Seafood, Mastros, etc and this cut at this restaurant just killed it. Service was awesome as expected. One thing though: the whole time that I was orgasming over my meal, I was eyeing this 'Tomahawk' cut that they were showcasing like a trophy to every customer. I kid you not, this thing was a bone-in wagyu rib-eye SO BIG that if you held it like how its named you'd look like Thor eating at Gibsons.
And that's all I have to say about that.
We were driving around for a good 40 minutes. This was the only place open at 10 pm on a Wednesday that still served Real Food. Well ok, maybe -one- of the places open in the 'burbs that wasn't, say, a Denny's.
We sat at the bar section since their main dining area was closed. There were many businessmen & women (at 10 pm ?!?) getting their drink on, one of which was drunken karaoke-ing a Journey song. My date and I sat as far away from them and our nook actually started to appear romantic.
We picked the sliders, steak burger & shrimp cocktail from their late night menu. My date was underwhelmed with his burger, saying that he's had "a better burger at Steak and Shake's" but I think he was just grouchy because the restaurant we were supposed to go to initially closed early. My sliders were more pink than I'd like (but I inhaled them anyway) and I was pleasantly surprised with their crunchy fries.
The highlight of the meal for me was our server. She kept checking in on us and gave service as if we were in the main dining room and not in our secluded antisocial corner in the bar.
OK, this is the last update I will give to this place. I just had to say that the meal I had consisted of. House salad with vinegrette, a t-bone, mushrooms and a baked potato. Oh! And two cosmos. This was last meal on earth good. The only reason I got thru my Monday was I kept dreaming of biting into that damn steak. The service was as impeccable as the food. My favorite place for meat and tots!
Review Source:We stopped here after a conference in Oak Brook and luckily got in without reservations (albeit about 10 p.m.). Everyone got steaks. I got the strip and everyone else got the filet.
I asked for mine medium, others got rare to medium. Mine was much closer to rare and the person who ordered rare was closer to medium. So, about halfway through, we switched steaks. Mine was sort of gristly, but his filet was very good.
The mashed potatoes were good, but nothing spectacular. Salad was good. The carrot cake looked fantastic and about the size of a large bowling ball, but we didn't get any (regretted that).
Overall okay, but wouldn't make it a point to get back there.
I took my husband here for his birthday dinner after reading that it is one of the best steakhouses in Chicago. Given its reputation, I had high expectations, and unfortunately, I left feeling a little let down.
I'll start with the things that were great -
1. Service- our team of servers were right on. Not too pushy, but always there when needed.
2. I had read about long wait times, even with a reservation. Not so for us. We were seated right on time.
3. I sort of liked that they brought out the tray of raw meat/lobster and explained what everything was. Some see it as tacky, I actually liked it.
Now for the things that were just ok:
1. The steak. We ordered a $100 ribeye- Â I believe it was Wagyu Kobe Beef. For a $100 cut of meat, you expect it to be phenomenal, and it wasn't. I've cooked better steaks on my grill at home. Parts of it were chewy, and I expected tender.
2. The sides. They were okay, but I'd expect something a little above average for a restaurant such as Gibsons. We ordered one of the double baked potatoes and the mushrooms, and they were just okay. The double baked potato was on the verge of being cold.
When I drop nearly $200 for a meal, I expect to be blown away, but I wasn't. Would I go back? Likely not. I've had better experiences at other steakhouses in the area, such as Capital Grille, and Ruth's Chris
I've had dinner, lunch, after work cocktails, and group events at Gibson's too many times to count since it opened in Oak Brook a year or so ago. Â The staff at Gibson's is friendly and guest oriented almost to a fault. Having dined there so many times, I can't get through lunch anymore without three or four servers and staff coming by to say hello and make sure all is not just well, but all is great.
Everyone is over the top polite and well versed on the menu. They are meticulous about making sure they get your steak order correct, and won't leave the table until you have confirmed it was cooked to your liking. Â The entrees, whether beef, pork, chicken or seafood are the best cuts you will find in Chicago.
A few things to keep in mind:
* The tables are bit tight. The booths are big, and for a party of four, if you want to spread out, call well ahead of time and ask to reserve a booth.
* A lunch, keep in mind the full order of the salad is huge. I normally get half order.
* You must valet park, as space is tight in Oak Brook. DO NOT PARK IN THE MCDONALDS parking lot to the east of Gibson's. You may get towed.
* If you are in a hurry, park across the street in the business plaza lot just north. Â
*If you have time to hang out after dinner, there is usually a piano player in the bar, and if you are lucky, you can find a table all the way in the back (don't forget to tip the piano player.)
* Leave with a few singles to tip the car hops who do the valet parking.
There's not enough nice things I can say about the staff from Greg the general manager to the staff. As I've waited for guests in front, I've seen guest after guest greeted with a smile, even in the midst of the most hectic lunch rushes. Â I love Gibson's in Oak Brook and recommend it to anyone who is in the area for a quick lunch, or for a great dinner with clients, prospects, family or friends.
My wife and I went to Gibson's for our first anniversary dinner this weekend. Â I had the Chicago cut and she had the filet. Â Both were done to a perfect medium rare. Â We ordered appetizer but it never came. Â So our server comped us dessert. Â My wife chose the Chocolate Mousse pie. Â OMG! Â IT'S HUGE!!!! Â Good luck to anyone on finishing this dessert. Â You'll probably need 6 people to finish it. Â WOW! Â Anyways, great food, awesome ambience, good service!
Review Source:Very nice.
Both food and cocktails were great, I almost got drink.
They made the best pork chop. The fish and steak were also delicious.
The lady server had a quite serious face, yes she does, but having a serious face is not her fault, at least she was not rude. The guy who came to serve water bread etc was very nice and polite.
The only thing that I complained was the restaurant seems so packed and tables seem get too close together. But it does not bother me much cause the food was wonderful!
Was here Saturday night for a private event. Appetizers served were sliders and loaded potato skins, but unfortunately I didnt get to try either because i was tending to a crying baby (she isn't a fan of Gibsons apparently).
We were also served a salad with italian dressing, which was good, and a 10 oz filet, which was also good. I have been to Gibsons a few times, both at this location and Chicago, and they seem to always undercook their steaks. I ordered it medium well, and it came out medium, and this seems to be an issue every time. The same for everyone at my table. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of. Â We also got a double baked potato - good - and some vegetables that I didn't bother to try (why waste the room? dessert was coming!).
Dessert was apple strudel and brownies. Nothing special.
I dont know why, but Gibsons just doesnt do it for me. Great atmosphere, great bar area, great service, but i dont find their food THAT good, so I definitely wouldnt make it my first choice, considering the price.
I would probably go back, but just for drinks and appetizers in the bar area.
No where near as good as Gibson's in Rosemont (5-star review). Â
The employees are rather rude here. Â No where near as nice as the Rosemont location. Â On top of that, they appeared rather 'shabby' with wrinkled clothes, unshaven, and in general, un-kept!
I had told our group how wonderful Gibson's was so my ass was on the line. Â It's very expensive and you are entitled to the best when pay $50 for a 13oz New York.
My NY was cooked to perfection. Â They've got that part down pat. Â A perfect medium rare, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle.
However, it was served "luke warm" if not Cold!!! Â I was told by our server they have sides of sauces so I ordered the peppercorn sauce. Â She did not deliver it with my meal so I reminded her I wanted it. Â I still did not receive it. Â When I was finished with the steak she said "do you still want the peppercorn sauce"? Â I was pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It wasn't just my meal, but everyone's meal was luke warm.
When I dined at Gibson's in Rosemont, the steaks were sizzling HOT when brought to the table.
Service was 'so-so". Â The bathroom was a little messy and had a smell.
This particular location is not recommended by this reviewer. Â Avoid Avoid Avoid. Â No where near WORTH THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This restaurant provided delicious food! I really enjoyed what I ordered. Now if I'm not mistaken, I had the filet mignon, creamed corn, and a baked potato. The filet mignon was succulent and had the perfect amount of tenderness. Our table also ordered their "mashed potato" special I believe. It was good. Now I have to minus one star for the following: unfortunately, the service was a little slow as they had to serve our party (we had about a party of 20). However, it was not a deal breaker since I really enjoyed the steak and champagne. Will probably come back again if, and when, I come back to Chicago. In the meantime, adieu until we meet again.
Review Source:Definitely an ersatz version of the downtown location. Â One star for the beautiful patio seating and another star for the most beautiful whitefish entree I've ever had.
My sister and I just had lunch here. Â I was extremely offended by the cold rubbery lobster appetizer smothered in mayonnaise, the deplorable house salad with a few leaves of sad iceberg lettuce with a drizzle of flavorless olive oil dressing, and not to mention the 4 oz filet mignon that looked like a turd. Â The mashed potatoes looked like they were boxed and the gravy was overly salty and tasted like it was out of a can.
I absolutely love the filet mignon at the downtown location, and I told my sister to order it, and out came this sad, cold, turd-like lump on her plate. Â Next to it was this neon orange mayonnaise sauce... Gross! Â The downtown location presents the cuts on a platter for diners to pick which ones they want. Â The don't have the same elegant tableside service here... because they buy the cheapest cuts possible and sell them for the same downtown prices. Â
We had an appetizer and two entrees for lunch and our bill was $85... and we just drank tap water.
I have never felt so much disappointment from a restaurant ever. Â We left extremely unsatisfied and pissed off. Â I sincerely feel taken advantage of.
Yeah there is free valet parking but there is no where to park! Â If you want to park on your own you have to park in a garage about a block away.
It's amazing this place is so busy given the high price point. Â Maybe because the service is so slow the tables don't turn over. Â Or maybe because the portions are so large that people can't move after eating. Â Anyhow, this is a good place to go if you want high-end steak - most steaks are more than $40 and are gargantuan in size. Â If you look closely at the menu, there are smaller and less expensive steaks listed in other parts of the menu. Â Petite filet, for example, is in the "local favorites" section, not in the "steaks and chops" section. Â The prime rib is also relatively inexpensive at this place.
We had decent food and took home half of our steaks, enough for another meal. Â That makes it not such a bad deal.
The downtown location will always be the preferred location. Â This place attracts a bunch of silver foxes and cougars. Â I laughed my ass off when a guy tried to hold the revolving door for me....yes, read that again...he tried to hold the revolving door for me..while he was still in it. Â All I could do was laugh hysterically while his portion of the revolving door politely came around and smacked him in the ass.
Review Source:Should have knnown by the name"Bar" comes before "Steakhouse".
Service was impeccable. The waitresses' helper (brought food, refilled water, removed plates)-was terrific!
Ordered the mussels for appetizer & waitress came back to tell us they were out. Changed to the steak carpacchio-which was very good!
They served some delicious bread during our appetizers. We then ordered dinner...The steaks, 2 bone-in filets@$49.75 each & one 10oz filet @ $38.75 were very good. With the steaks came salads. The salads were made with the heart & ends of romaine lettuce; yellowed, bitter & no greens. Extremely sad excuse for a salad. When you pay $49.75 for one steak, you would think you could get a better salad. (my 22 y/o son stated Outback has a much better house salad!) I agree.
We ordered the macaroni & cheese & baked potatoe to share between the 3 of us. Another dissapointment....if you have made Kraft shells & cheese....that is what they serve. It came in a soup bowl & was awful!. The baked potato was cold & looked as if it had been sitting in a warmer since earlier in the day (or reheated from another time); it was served with no butter, & was just on a plate-presentation was pitiful. If I had sent that out in my restaurant those bakers would  have been coddled in olive oil, sea salt, baked, pushed open with a dollop of real butter & served on a plate with a garnish! Not sure what was going on with the expediter, but they missed the boat.
After telling the helper about the sides, he sent over the waitress who in turn got the floor manager-she offered to change the mac-n-cheese to the "much better baked hash brown casserole". When it arrived a few minutes later,,,once again DISSAPOINTMENT. A bowl with old chopped up baked potatoes mashed up, microwaved & some cheese thrown on top. This was not baked-preparation was poor-no flavor at all & it was cold. We told the waitress to forget the sides all together. Manager never came back.
At times throughout our dinner I saw at least 3 different persons with chef coats walk thru the bar-(where we ate) as if they had nothing to do. Granted it was 7:00pm on a Sunday, but the attention paid to our meal obviously wasnt first & foremost on their mind & the place was not busy at all.
I have eaten at the Chart House, Ruth Chris, Bobo's, & Folk's Folly in Memphis. They all have much better sides than Gibson's. Totally dissappointed that our meal was not a "meal" & that we paid so much for a couple of steaks. Do not go for dinner;however I do reccommend the appetizer of Steak Carrpachio.
NOTE: Management & kitchen staff need help!
Front of the house: Beautiful job with what you have to work with.
After paying, we returned to the valets for our car----All 3 of the valets were extremely high & obviously had been smokin' out during their shift....nice....a comical way to end a dissapointing evening.
This review is only for the bar as I haven't been to the restaurant.
The bar area is so cool!! I loved the fire pits outside. Â There was plenty of room for our fairly large sized group. Â The drinks were tasty, although it was a bummer that they didn't have any beers on tap.
The parking was meh. Â You have to valet, which I didn't know until I got there so I didn't come with cash. Â Very inconvenient.
We came here as a group of 7, looking forward to a great steak meal.
Free valet was awesome.
We got to the dining room and the tables ridiculously close together. I felt like they packed as many tables as possible into the room with barely any room to walk.
Our waiter was good but VERY slow. My steak was overcooked but by the time the waiter came back I was sick of waiting so I ate about half of it. My husband ordered a glass of wine when the food came and he was about done with his steak when the wine came to the table. The timing was pretty bad. I know it was a busy Saturday night but our table felt somewhat neglected.
The food was good but maybe a bit overpriced. Sautéed spinach with garlic was amazing. Macadamia pie was delicious.
I'm not sure I'll be back - maybe for a very special occasion...
Okay, let's get this out of the way: the steak is phenomenal. 5 stars for that. The rest of the experience, not so much.
My first gripe is with the parking as in, there is none. The surrounding parking lots are owned by McDonalds so you cannot park there without getting towed. Typically, valet parking comes with a price but here it is complementary so just drive up and hand over the keys. Of course, you'll have to tip once you get your car, so it is kind of like paying. We just parked in the mall parking lot and walked.
Second: it's pretty expensive. Now I know what you're going to say: "it's aged steak blah blah high end food." That's fine. I get that. But if you're going to charge $47 for a 12 oz steak, it better come with a side. The way Gibson's works is that they tell you to order one or two sides for the table so you can share because the sides are pretty big. This means that everyone at your table needs to come to an agreement on what to get, which may not always be easy. On top of that, some dishes come with sides, so then you're ordering two huge sides for everyone while they still get their own? That doesn't make sense and you end up wasting money because you chose a dish, thinking you weren't going to get your own side.
Third gripe: seating. They threw as many tables as possible into one room and try to squeeze everyone in there. It is very hard to have four people at a two person table and pass around the sides and eat your dinner in peace. Elbow room, anyone? I was afraid I was going to get knocked in the head by the servers because there was almost no room to walk.
Fourth: service. There were bread crumbs on our table after eating some bread, so the server came over to scrape it off with a knife and throw it on the ground--only he wasn't so careful and dumped all the crumbs on my lap. Really?? Thanks dude. The servers also need to watch the water pouring. It's great that they make sure you always have a full glass, except that the full glass is full of ice! There was so much ice that I couldn't get to my water and every time I had three sips, the server came back to dump more ice in my glass.
Gibson's has really good steak. That cannot be denied and that alone saved it from getting 1 or 2 stars. The rest of the experience was lackluster. For the money, Wildfire is much better and I'm sure other places are as well.
Ok, so OBVI- you can go here and get a FAB steak for an insane price BUT did you know you could go to Gibsons and get full and have a great time without breaking the bank?!?!?!?!
Point blank Best. Manhattan. EVER! Â They use a liquor called Cherry Herring (or something like that) that gives a little sweetnest and is so super yummy!
If you have a craving for a steak but don't have $45-$60 to drop per person on a small portion ala cart meal then EAT AT THE BAR and order the filet sliders. Â Three 3 oz filet sliders w/ a side of fries is $12, and they are SO YUM! Â I usually upgrade and get the button mushrooms instead of fries, but whichever way you do it, you can have a filling meal (and technically a great 9oz filet) for a decent price. Â My husband and I go here and usually don't spend more than $75 for the two of us.
TRY IT. Â Seriously, GO.....NOW!
First off, it's Gibson's and Gibson's is hard to beat. That said, this is the burbs so it's not quite the same as the downtown location.
However, I really really like their outdoor seating in the summer with the waterfall - it's awesome. Nothing like getting out of work for an hour or so sitting in the sun with a waterfall.
I've heard the dinners and bar are great at night but frequent the area much less at night.
The food here is always good - never had an issue and I love the waitstaff, very friendly and outgoing, not to mention knowledgable and they remember your name!
I've never had an issue getting a table for lunch or early evening, but when in doubt, I'd always make a reservation to be safe.
The parking here is not so great. There is valet, but otherwise you have to park across the street in the mall lot by Cheesecake factory which is not that ideal. I don't mind the walk, but for a business lunch it can get awkward.
The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is that it's still not the downtown location. However, I would completely recommend it to anyone out in the Oakbrook area!
We had an absolute blast last night - Girl's night out! I don't know how we managed but we got the best table in the house without a reservation (I'm not sure yet if I want to disclose the number it is such a great table.)  We were attended to by Mario, a friendly and playful waiter  AND received attention and conversation from one of the managers, a good looking older gentleman. He so enjoyed our table, he treated us to free desserts!
We started the night in the packed bar with Martinis and shrimp cocktails. The waitress was miraculously attentive inspite of the crowd and noise level - and was at our table in minutes of a new friend showing up. Classic blue cheese olive stoli martinis were huge (although I would love more than 2 olives in the glass), and the shrimp cocktail was fresh and hit the spot during our table wait.
From bbq ribs to filet to prime rib with popovers, we all enjoyed our meals and the evening was one to remember. We'll be back for sure.
Overrated? Yep. Definitely.
I dined here several months ago, and would certainly not choose to return. There are several truly *great* steakhouses in the area that I would much prefer visit.
The Good:
We were seated immediately.
Our server was pretty fantastic. Very sophisticated and knowledgeable staff.
The soup rocked.
My steak was cooked as I ordered it.
The Bad:
The steak was just meh. Bland. Flavorless. Boring.
The Ugly:
OVERCROWDED MUCH?!?
For the amount of money spent per table, I would expect that it's unnecessary to cram more tables in this restaurant that clowns in a car. (I suppose that's why it seemed rather circus like.) A random weeknight, loaded up with people, and I felt like I was dining with the parties at two adjacent tables. The servers had no where to move, and I felt as though walking to and from the table I was intruding on 15 different meals in the short walk through the restaurant. More concerned with profit margin than guest satisfaction, I suppose. I'd much rather spend my hard earned dimes over at the Capital Grille, where I can enjoy my meal with the bf or a few close friends and not a restaurant full of strangers packed like sardines.
Another fine Chicago establishment that has branched out to the burbs. Â The layout is intended to look just like the Rush Street location and it does a good job. Â I was a little surprised when our server informed us their filet mignons are not USDA Prime, because "they don't need to be". Â
The service is great but they appear to have dozens of servers that do nothing but walk around in haste to make it appear busy. Â
The Ferraris and Rolls Royces parked in front is a bit ostentatious, but adds to the atmosphere.
I went here for a very early dinner with my Dad on a Friday evening, and as expected my 14oz Filet Mignon was perfect in every sense and the service was very attentive. Â These are things I expect and take for granted in a steak house of this caliber and why I will return.
My Dad likes to dine early so we arrived about 5:30, the bar was doing a brisk business for happy hour but the dining room only had a few occupied tables at this hour.
We followed the rather young 20-something, very pretty, looked great in heels, hostess to our table. Â Now keep in mind the place is nearly empty - she leads to table right next to a family of 6 including 2 small children sitting in booster seats...wtf, an empty dining room, 2 guys out for dinner... so lets crowd them in next to a family with children.
Â
Now this is the part that really irritates me, I ask for another table - she looks very confused but still looking pretty, she leaves us standing in the dining room next to the family while she heads back to the host stand, evidently for guidance from a higher up in the selection of a new table for us while I see about 20 empty tables.
An established, high end restaurant should always have a true maître d'. Not some pretty little girl that can't make a decision on the spot and in the best interest of the customer.  The time, effort and money spent on insuring a top notch wait, bar and kitchen staff should also be spent on your front door staff and Gibson's is not the only restaurant this is happening in.  Too many times very pretty, young girls are used only as decoration at the front door.
Hence, 4 stars instead of 5 for leaving me awkwardly standing in a nearly empty dining room.
If you want to try the great steak in this place and avoid the crowd and long waiting, I suggest Saturday lunch. Â
I work near by and have had lunch and drinks here. Â Today I brought my family and relative from out of town here for lunch. Â I made the reservation online and requested table outside in shade plus a high chair. Â They were very accommodating the table was all set when we got there. Â (when I reserve online for other restaurants, i don't usually get my special request automagically fulfilled).
The pear blossom martini is my all time favorite!
We decided to order a bunch of items and share:
appetizer: sesame crusted tuna - with seaweed salad
salad: spicy lobster cobb (it was good, I'm not sure i liked it enough to pay the 18.00+ again for this)
salad: beef tenderloin steak salad
2 orders of filet Mignon sliders
1 order of turkey burger sliders
The food was great as usual, filet cooked to perfection! Turkey burger juicy and flavorful! Â Great lunch had by all.
And since it wasn't crowded at all, my daughter got to play by the waterfall. Â We will definitely come here for special weekend treat again.
This place could have easily been 5 stars except for some simple flaws. Â 1) the place is a bit crowded. Â We went for a Monday night dinner and was shocked to see the main room literally packed with only room for walking between tables. Â 2) our table was clean and neat except the wall and the lamp attached to the wall had food splatter on it. Â Gross.
3) appetizers are all seafood. Â All of them except for one steak thing. Â Which is probably going to be your entree so...wtf?
Otherwise, the steak was cooked amazingly, the desert portion was disgustingly large (and amazing tasting). Â And the wait staff was excellent. Â Truly above par wait staff.
Parking was non existent, but there is a valet for free (though, who can do that and not tip? Â So not free-free...)
And it's ex-pen-sive!!! our bill which included no appetizer, no alcohol, one side and one desert, and two entrees (one steak and one ribs) was just over $100. Â My steak cost nearly half of that. Tho again, the steak was generously portioned and cooked correctly!
Overall I don't know if I would go back. It was good, but for that price, I want great!
A new Gibson's? And right across the street from my office? Life IS good!
Open for about a week- we had a chance to eat here the other day and I must say- it's like pushing open the door of the downtown location. While the outside is contemporary and sleek- the inside is all Gibson's.
Clubby and masculine. White table cloths and servers in white jackets. Friendly and impeccable service. And signed pictures of celebrities lining the walls. There is even a staircase in the entrance way mimicking the downtown location but upstairs here is a small private dining area for 10.
While not open yet (slated to open July 1st) the other big difference at this location is the outside patio and bar. With seating for 200, the patio is going to be magnificent! We got a preview during our visit and all I can say is wow! A cascading water wall and "river" to block out the sounds of Spring Road. Comfy couches and tables surrounded by fire pits and a separate outside bar in a sunken area that will have live jazz on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sweet! I know where I am heading after work!
But as nice as all of that is- the real star here continues to be Gibson's food. The steaks, chops and seafood are all in place and served up in large portions. For lunch- there are luncheon portions of all of that but also some great tasting salads. I had the spicy lobster Cobb salad which was piled high with all kinds of fresh vegetables and was delicious! My friends had the seared tuna salad with wasabi dressing (also quite tasty) the salmon club (good but a little rich) and the combination " slider" and soup combo.
Service was spot on- formal- but not uncomfortably so- and it is clear that the Gibson's training has pulled this new team together with nary a flaw. We met both the manager and the chef during our visit which was also a nice touch.
If you drive, (and who doesn't in the "burbs"?) there is complmentary valet parking out front. Â And lunch for 4 with dessert ran about $80.
A great addition to the "neighborhood", Gibson's is sure to be a destination for the after work Oak Brook crowd. Oh- and if you see my boss and he is looking for me? Point in the other direction as I'll likely be perched on my bar stool, enjoying the sunshine with one of Gibson's famous martini's in hand! Now that should make the work day a whole lot better!
